Omakase sushi featuring seasonal catches, affordable luxury, intimate setting

"Like Goldilocks and her porridge, it can be hard to find an omakase that’s “just right”—one that hits that sweet spot between formal and informal, suspiciously cheap and give-your-accountant-a-heart-attack expensive. But Mr. Omakase in Downtown walks that line perfectly. It’s not cheap, but the 10-course option comes in under $100 (at least before service, taxes, and sake), and that’s a lot better than most upscale omakase options in Miami. But the big reason we love this place is because every piece of fish, uni, or beef that’s laid in front of us just gets better and better, like a well-paced action movie starring Keanu Reeves." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo
"If the price points so far have made you wince, you’re going to appreciate Mr. Omakase. This Downtown spot could be a lot more expensive—and we’d still happily pay for it. The four omakase options here start as low as $60 for a 10-course “express” menu and go up to $149 for 18 courses. The quality and deliciousness of the sushi are on par with much more expensive omakase spots. The space, which only has a dozen or so counter seats, feels private. The service is attentive but never suffocating, and the atmosphere hits that sweet spot between formal and informal." - ryan pfeffer
"We said we'd try to keep omakase spots off this guide, but we're making an exception for Mr. Omakase. Like Goldilocks and her porridge, it can be hard to find an omakase that’s “just right”—one that hits that sweet spot between formal and informal, suspiciously cheap and give-your-accountant-a-heart-attack expensive. But Mr. Omakase in Downtown walks that line perfectly, and the 10-course option comes in under $100 (at least before service, taxes, and sake). The price point isn’t why we love Mr. Omakase, though. The two-hour dinner here is an unforgettable blur of nigiri and sashimi so delicate you barely have to chew it." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"Mr. Omakase is one of our favorite sushi omakase restaurants in Miami, both because the price point ($89 to $149) is more reasonable than most, and also because the two-hour dinner is an unforgettable blur of nigiri and sashimi so delicate and tender you barely have to chew it. The space, which only has a dozen or so counter seats, is peaceful and seats are spaced far enough apart that you won’t have to worry about bumping elbows with a stranger." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"If we were better at math, we could make a graph to illustrate how super expensive omakase restaurants have ballooned in Miami over the last few years. And even though there is no shortage of places to drop $300 for two hours of great raw fish, there’s no omakase experience we endorse more than Mr. Omakase. Dinner at the little Downtown counter ranges from $79 per person (for ten courses) to $139 (for 18 courses). That’s more affordable than Miami’s other upscale omakase options. But the price point isn’t why we love Mr. Omakase. The two-hour dinner here is amazing—a blur of nigiri and sashimi so delicate and tender you kind of feel guilty chewing it." - ryan pfeffer
