The Best Restaurants in NDG (Notre-Dame-de-Grace) | Eater Montreal

"A handful of Caribbean food destinations line the Northwest corner of NDG, perhaps none more beloved than Mr. Patty, tucked away in a predominately residential area. This takeout spot makes the flaky, warm titular delicacy from scratch daily. On weekends, they bust out more Jamaican staples like oxtail, jerk chicken, and cow foot soup." - Erik Leijon

Best Patty's in montreal! Very good weekend menu and roti

Laurent Grenier-Labrecque

Google
Best patties in Montreal by far. We pick up a dozen every other week. Jerk pork, on Saturday only, is delicious.

Google
Simply the best patties and food all the time, consistency is their thing! With an updated menu! Ps their soup is crave worthy... any time I visit my friend off island I HAVE to bring her their soups. It's wanted all year round and especially when I don't feel well, just makes me feel so much better

Google
I love this place I've been going here since I was a kid. I wish they did delivery though like uber skip or Doordarsh as with work hours it's very difficult to be able to stop in since they close at 5pm. I would even pay $3 more per item on the delivery app

Google
Great spot for patties.. why go to the middle man when you can hit up the suppliers

Google
The patties are excellent and tasty. Been buying from Mr Patty for over 8 years and never do I buy my patties from anywhere else. And my favorite is beef.

Google
1st time and I found the patty to be very BIG in size and value. I found the secret is to heat the patty either in oven, air fryer or toaster oven. The pastry will be nice and crispy & fluffy. If you microwave, the pastry will come out tuff and a bit hard to chew. I found the to patty pastry was very thick and heavy overtaking the filling which seemed mildly spicy. Maybe it was the batch, but I wished there was more beef filling. Anyhow, these are BIG patties. Please, more filling, it would make them so much more enjoyable. Thanks

Google
Best Jamaican patties in the city hands down!

Yelp
The patty had lots of filling which was kinda mushy with very little taste. The pastry was very thick, firm and flaky. Nothing like Toronto's Randy's (which is no longer), Michdeans or Patty Time. As of 09/21/22, price is $3.00 each debit or cash only

Yelp

Yelp
Mr. Patty/Pattie is a stone's throw away from my aunt's place but I've never actually stepped foot into their shop till this trip. My cousin absolutely loves this place and always brings back a dozen or two bags back home with her. For those that don't know, they specialize in Jamaican patties, which you can get either hot or cold. The main menu is all about the patties but there is also roti, desserts and drinks. Specials menu is only available Friday and Saturday. Jerk chicken, jerk pork, curry goat and oxtail! Wish I tried one of them out. For hot patties, there's a chart for you to figure out their costs. 1 patty = $1.75, 6 patties = $10.50. Not sure why you don't get a deal ordering more but c'est la vie. If you buy them cold, it's $13.00/dozen. There's also the cocktail (mini party) size option. Three options to choose from: chicken, beef and vegetarian. You can tell the chicken from beef as the former has a little red marking on one of the corners. - Dozen cold patties ($13.00) - six chicken and six beef to share with the fam jam. Pop them into the oven and they're just like new. The beef filling was hands down the better choice. Nice blimp of heat, incredibly flaky and tender. They make them fresh everyday and it's tasty because they use lard. So not the healthiest option but hey, that's why you share. I haven't tried any other Jamaican/Caribbean places in the city but this family run shop is worth the trek out west.

Yelp
My review is limited to the beef and chicken patties. Ordered a dozen with some Fruit Champagne that came up to about $18. Pretty damn affordable. The patties were very good and they go well in the freezer for snack at a later point. If you want spicy, these do the trick. They're pretty big so I was full after 2. I think you can have lunch for under $6.

Yelp
Came here to get my patty fix as it is something I would have every week back home in Jamaica. Beef patties were good and had a nice spice level to them, but their chicken patties, on the other hand, are terrible, nothing like what you get in Jamaica, they use minced chicken and it does not seem to be curried and was very bland.

Yelp
The patties here are probably the best in Montreal and some of the best I've ever had. I tried all three types chicken, beef and vegetable and they were all good even bought a dozen to take home. The staff here are really nice and helpful they even let us in one time when they were closing up to buy some patties. I have to come back here to try their other things but overall I highly recommend this place

Yelp
Crust is waaaaay toooo thick although the TASTE was excellent. Got a dozen... had to peel half the layer of crust. Hope they read my comment.

Yelp
The jerk chicken is top-notch. Probably best jerk chicken in the city. And the goat and chicken rotis were awesome. I had both veggie and meat patties and wasn't too impressed. The meat was weird and the patties have this day-glo orange hue to them. Not very appetizing. I've had better. The people who work there are super friendly and the service is fast. They serve a traditional Aki and salt-fish breakfast on Saturdays that is award-winning! Enjoy!

Yelp
Their patties is so good not salty as the congelated one in groceries. The goat curry is ok too but i prefer cooked vegetables instead! The rice lacks of flavor ;it would be better with sauce!

Yelp
Based on the quality of the food, Mr. Pattie deserves 5+ stars. Their service needs improvement. Lines are sometimes long but I can live with that. The quality of the food is worth the wait. The main issue is special orders. They don't seem to be tracked in a very efficient manner. I noticed at Christmas that people who had placed special orders were having problems. At that time, my order was ready. A special order must be placed for extra spicy patties and cocktail patties. I called yesterday and ordered 12 extra spicy regular sized patties and 6 extra spicy cocktail patties. My friend was going to pick them up first thing Saturday morning so I provided her name. My friend called first thing this morning and indicated that a major snow storm is forecasted for Friday night so she won't know until Saturday if she will make it in. I called the store and asked if it would be possible to change and arrange to pick up the order today. I was told the order would be ready in the next hour. It was a long wait for the bus and a long trip on a very rainy day. After that it was a walk. When I got to the store, the lady who works at the counter said that my order had been picked up already. I let her know this was not possible. Turns out someone else had ordered a dozen extra spicy regular sized patties and a dozen extra spicy cocktail patties and she had given her my order. Instead of apologizing, her attitude was there was nothing that could be done about it now. She was very unresponsive. Actually walked away when I was speaking with her. I asked to speak with the owner. She pointed to a table. He was sitting and relaxing with some customers. I expressed my concerns calmly. He was very lackadaisical. I pointed out that my mother and I have been customers for years and that his attitude was disappointing. I asked to speak with the person who had taken my order and he said he had no way of knowing that. I sat and had a pattie and Ting to calm down. I attempted to speak to him again. He kept walking away. He said "What do you expect me to do about it?" I said you could at least apologize and speak with your staff to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again. After all, I did give my name when the order was placed. What is the point of taking the name if you don't check that when the order is picked up." I try to avoid conflict but it deteriorated from there. Had he been apologetic and accepted my feedback, there would have been no reason to write this review. Unless there is an improvement in their ordering system, I would suggest finding another supplier for special orders. They are very disorganized and unresponsive.

Yelp
This is place I go to for my beef patties. They are as good as the ones I had in Negril and Montego Bay. Get one pattie for 1.75$ or 12 for 13$. Enjoy the taste of Jamaica! Ya mon :-)

Yelp
This is one of the most overlooked Jamaican restaurants in the city (due in no small part to its location), but it might just be the best and most authentic. Raised by a Jamaican mother and having taken yearly trips to visit family there, I'm always looking to replicate the real experience over here and this is one of the few places that fits the bill. The staff is amazing, super sweet and incredibly helpful and the decor, though sparse, is welcoming. There are only a couple seat, so it's definitely more of a take-out place, but it is well worth the trip. The patties are fresh and flaky, served piping hot, and you can also get them frozen or in cocktail size if you're having a party (and inviting me). The roties boast some really delicious curried filling and you can get chicken, beef or goat. Throw in some gizarda and coconut drops for dessert and you'll be more than satisfied. However, the best of the best is only available on Saturdays: the jerk chicken and jerk pork. Holy moly is this amazing jerk! Spicy, sure, but also incredibly flavourful and prepared in a drier marinade than most places use here, creating a jerk coating that really sticks to the tender, tasty meat. You can buy it by the pound, so I would suggest one of each to last the weekend if you're dining with friends. Really, really spectacular. One last mention is that they also stock all the Grace sodas, Ting and even peanut punch. It's the complete Jamaican experience, minus the weather.

Yelp
Best Jamaican patties I've ever had, hands down. I haven't tried the veggie patties, but both the chicken and beef patties are always served hot & fresh (or great to take home) and are stuffed right to the edge of the beautifully flaky pastry. Any time Jamaican patties come up in discussion, I immediately ask people if they've been to Mr. Patty, and highly recommend it if they haven't.

Yelp
Best patties in Montreal! I work up in Mirabel and I have a colleague who periodically asks me to bring him some. The staff is always very helpful and charming.

Yelp
Words are a powerful thing, intuition even stronger... I had just written my review for Anancy and found myself in the mood for a chicken roti, hmmm, not in the mood to drive, I thought but after reading Kim B's review for Mr Pattie,, I jumped into my car and drive over there! My love affair with chicken roti started when I was 19, my ex is a Trini and he introduced me to this delicious delicacy that I still enjoy and crave to this day! I followed the directions on Mr Pattie's website from Sherbrooke St West, very easy, thank you:) About 15 minutes later, I drive onto Patricia, a little residential street. I walked in and was greeted with a friendly smile and a warm hello. I ordered 2 beef patties, their golden, orangey hue was calling me from their display case and I knew they would be delicious! I also ordered a chicken roti and a Grace pineapple soda. My order was ready very quickly and I hopped into my car to go home. I put my keys into the ignition to go but settled back into my seat to taste a pattie. They were very hot which I like, the pastry was very flaky and the filling oh so deliciously spiced and unlike most places, this pattie was stuffed with filling, no skimpy, thin layer! Mmmm, it was worth the drive! I contemplated eating the other but I was a thoughtful gf and brought it home:) I brushed the crumbs off me and started driving home, my roti tempting me with it's curried aroma teasing my senses. Onto the roti... I got home, opened the bag and took my first bite, oh my god was my first thought! Heavenly! Beautifully spiced, saucy, flavorful, nice chunks of potato and the chicken, beyond tender and delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and I will not be hesitating to drive back when my next roti craving hits me! I can't wait to try their jerk pork and jerk chicken, I definitely plan on getting some to BBQ! Thanks Kim for your descriptive, well written review and thanks Mr Pattie for making your food so delicious!

Yelp
Ok where do I start. Patties of the chains always fresh and perfectly delicious always. Oh wait a second did I mention the chicken roti mouth watering dish. Unfortunately the hot plates are served only on the weekends but are also finger lickin good, too bad they don't make them during the week. Over all definitely worth a try and adopt a must.

Yelp
Best patties in Montreal, hands down. Though sometimes, could stand to have more meat and less oniony sauce in the filling, but honestly, this place never disappoints. Keep it up!

Yelp
You're sure not going to find a better patty anywhere near Montreal. Got that nice yellow-orange flaky action, well-seasoned (if maybe underspiced; I'm always looking for a little more heat than I can get up here). Really lovely people running the shop. This place is more like a 4 to me, but I'm spoiled from having grown up in the north Bronx, so 5 it is.

Yelp
November 6, 2012 I first tasted their pattie about 6 months ago. Wow was it great. Better than any I ever had before. I raved about it to my workmates and friends. Unfortunately it is a bit far from where I live or work. However, last week I had an errand to run and decided to detour to get some patties. I had also had a request to P.U. some for co-workers who had never tried the patties from this place. I picked up 2 dozen. Well I must tell you, they became instant fans. They couldn't beleive how great they were. Now I have been recruited to get some more. Wish they had delivery service. Maybe they could deliver if someone orders 3 dozen or more I live in Ville saint Laurent and they are in N.D.G. Hope the place will be around for a long time. Recommend anyone who really loves a great pattie to visit this place. THE BEST !!!! Karl Z.

Yelp
Best patties in town, hands down and the people running it are super friendly. The patties are made on locaton and the turnover is so high that you are always getting a very fresh product and if there are only a few left in the hear warmer they usually pull a fresh batch out of the oven and serve those instead.

Hey M.

Yelp
You can tell a place is pretty authentic by the number of people from the islands who go there. This place has always been a hotspot for patties. The taste alone will tell you why. The rotis are pretty good as well. You can also buy uncooked patties regular or cocktail to go. Needless to say I will be going back regularly,

Lucy W.

Yelp
I live right around the corner from Mr. Pattie and I cannot recommend it enough. Patties are packed with flavour and flaky as can be. Roti, huge and delicious! Jerk chicken, weekends only, are tender and yummy.
