Two New Pho Restaurants Debut in Asiatown | Eater Houston

"Housed in a small 49-seat strip-mall space and launched as a passion project by friends Kenny Pham, Yen Gia Lang, and Sonny Pham, this casual spot is built around a short, focused menu and the trio's love of cooking and drinking—Yen is known for his broth and Kenny for his steak. The menu is a one-pager featuring two soups and four rice plates: the northern-style pho Bac (14-hour beef bone broth that comes with toppings like rare, marinated filet mignon and can be customized with beef meatballs, tendon, brisket, or fatty flank) and a bun bo Hue (spicy pork and beef noodle soup) that is already getting rave online reviews; rice plates include com suon bo dai han (Korean-style BBQ short ribs with rice), com bo luc lac (shaking beef with rice), com ga xoi mo (Vietnamese fried chicken with rice), and com chien duong chau (combination fried rice)." - Mai Pham

We came to Mr. Pho for lunch and ordered the regular pho, shrimp pho, spring rolls with grilled chicken and grilled pork, and a grilled chicken plate. The pho was solid overall, though the broth could benefit from deeper, more developed flavor. The spring rolls were well executed, with a pleasant grilled note coming through, and both the peanut sauce and fish sauce were flavorful and complemented the rolls nicely. The grilled chicken plate was also good, carrying the same clean, smoky grilled flavor. Overall, a solid spot with consistent execution.

*UPDATE* I visited again and ate inside the restaurant. I ordered the Pho again this time specifically requesting beef broth. It did not disappoint. And the eggrolls were also delicious. The food arrived quickly and service was great. I ordered pho to go. The menu stated that all pho is served with beef broth. Other Vietnamese restaurants serve chicken pho with beef broth and I expected the same, especially considering it stated such on their menu. Container on right is the bland broth I received. On the left was beef broth that my coworker received. My broth was bland and flavorless. And the noodles were a big rubbery mass that, when added to the broth, never broke apart into noodles.

We visited on 12/27/25 around 4:30–5:30 P.M. At first, the experience was great. Service was fast, our food came out quickly, and the young man who helped us was very kind. The woman working the register, who also took orders, checked on customers while they were eating (including us), and handled payments, was pleasant up until it was time for us to pay. We were using the remaining funds on a gift card my husband received for his christmas bonus and planned to apply what was left on the card, pay the remainder in cash, and tip in cash as well. When we asked how to split the payment, the same woman (working register and tending to customers) became rude and unhelpful. Instead of explaining our options, she repeatedly insisted we select a tip on the screen, even after we explained that we planned to tip in cash. I understand that option does need to be selected whether you choose to tip or not, but she was trying to charge us the full amount on the card without listening to what we were saying. We selected “no tip” on the card with the intention of tipping in cash once the payment was completed. Her attitude immediately changed for the worse after seeing us choose not to tip with our card. Instead she assumed we weren’t tipping at all, despite knowing what we were trying to do. I’m always happy to tip for good service, but not for attitude. Because of this experience, we won’t be returning.

I had an amazing experience at Mr. Pho. The pho was honestly the highlight of the meal the broth was rich, clear, and full of deep beef flavor without being too greasy or overly salty. You can really taste how much time and care goes into making it. The noodles were soft but not mushy, and the beef was tender and fresh, especially when it soaked up the hot broth. What I loved most was how balanced everything was. The herbs were fresh and aromatic, and once you add a little lime, basil, and chili, the flavors come together perfectly. It felt warm, comforting, and very authentic, exactly what good pho should be. The portions were generous, the food came out hot and fast, and the overall vibe was relaxed and welcoming. I will definitely come back whenever I’m craving a good bowl of pho, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who truly enjoys Vietnamese food.

Google
Great and tasty food. Very big bowl. My kids love Vietnamese Sizzling Beef Steak & Egg. Great customer services. We will come back for sure.

Google
Their Pho was extremely good, I had the Pho combination. The one thing that made my experience horrible is their service really sucks. Only 2 couple and one family of 4 including us and had to call to get service every time I needed a refill or something. The girls where sitting down behind the register talking and on their phones and the counter is so high they can’t see the customers, they never ask anyone how they was doing or if they needed anything. Pho and more which is also in cypress has excellent pho and their service is outstanding. Been going there for years and not once had I have to ask for a refill on my tea. With the quality of food Mr. Pho has this place can easily be a fantastic place to dine, but their service needs ALLOT of work.

Google
I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this place honestly deserved it. My friend and I came to Mr. Pho for the first time and told the server we’d never had pho before. Instead of helping us or letting us look at the menu, she rushed us twice and acted like we were annoying her. It was the most unwelcoming first impression ever. Then the food came… and wow. The pho had literally no flavor, the fried rice tasted like absolutely nothing, and for some reason everything is priced like it’s supposed to be amazing. It’s overpriced for food that isn’t even halfway decent. And here’s the part that really bothered me: the staff was wearing dirty clothes. It honestly made me question the hygiene of the whole place. We barely touched our food, and they noticed — and instead of asking if something was wrong, they straight up ignored us the rest of the time. No refills, no check-in, nothing. Just avoided us. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Between the rude service, bland food, lack of cleanliness, and the ridiculous prices, I will never be coming back. Save your money and go literally anywhere else.

Google
This is my first time coming up here great service and great food I was asking them a lot of questions and the server was delightful to answer my questions😊we will definitely be back 😁

Yelp
I enjoyed the spring rolls here. The place has a nice vibe to it. I would come here again

Yelp
I came here on a mission for the ultimate Bò Kho (Vietnamese beef stew), but sadly, the search continues. The broth was very clear and greasy, nowhere as thick as you would expect it to be. I was especially disappointed that there were no carrots, that's kind of the heart and soul of a proper Bò Kho, and their absence was noticeable. The beef itself wasn't tender, and I found myself working harder than I should just to chew through it. On the positive side, I could taste the lemongrass, which gave the dish some brightness. But overall, the stew didn't deliver the rich, hearty comfort that makes Bò Kho so special. I also tried the shrimp spring rolls, and honestly, they didn't impress either. There was zero crunch factor, just shrimp, slimy lettuce, and vermicelli noodles. No cilantro, mint, carrots, or bean sprouts to give it that fresh, crisp bite. When I opened it up to investigate, the lettuce was visibly slimy, which explained a lot. Those ended up in the trash immediately lol

Yelp
I'm no doctor, but it's my firm belief that a banh mi a day keeps the doctor away. Do with that what you will. I arrived at Mr.Pho expecting a fast casual spot, so I was surprised at the invitation to sit down. Once seated service was slow. After making eye contact more than a few times with the waitress...well...they were not the friendliest. It's very possible that I had a one off experience, but my waitress was very to the point, and delivered everything to my table without eye contact, turning their back to me when I said thank you. It was a bit uncomfortable. When the second waitress passed, I assumed they'd check in on how my meal was going, nope, she passed without acknowledging my existence to water the plants. To their credit, my waitress did ask how the meal was when I asked for the bill. Service aside, all is forgiven with great food right? The offering I tried were good, not great. The salt coffee was delicious but heavy on the ice. The chicken banh mi was sizable, flavorful, and balanced but the quality of the chicken was not my favorite. I found myself placing grissel in a napkin. Overall, the meal was not bad, and certainly a win for the offerings on this side of town. I'll likely drop in again, but I feel more inclined to order my meal to-go, atleast until I better understand the etiquette for this spot!

Yelp
Saves me a trip to Bellaire. Good enough pho. A bit on the expensive side. Will go back.

Yelp
Let me start by saying my family of 6 has been giving this restaurant our business for YEARS. We have spent lots of money here over the years, and they should know us by our order and voice when we call in. But apparently, they don't give a crap about loyalty or retaining customers. They have gradually started nickel and diming EVERYTHING. It started with lettuce leaves for our Vietnamese egg rolls. They were giving only a few for an order of 12! So when we asked for more, they wanted to charge us.....for a few extra lettuce leaves. Then it was for a few extra tiny condiment cups of hoisin sauce and fish sauce. Today, they tried to not give us any kind of to-go bowl for our pho. Sure, I know the broth comes in the cylindrical containers, but then we have to pour it into something over top the meat and veggies, and don't think the styrofoam to go boxes are gonna cut it. We're lucky to have pho bowls at home, but I imagine many people don't. So, trying to charge us for a disposable bowl is just ridiculous....... To the staff's credit, they have been understanding at times claiming they're sorry but just following owner's orders. Other times, they've treated us very rudely. So, to that owner- I resent that you treat your customers, especially repeat customers with such little regard. As a fellow business owner, I understand needing to cut costs.....but I suggest you re-evaluate appropriate strategies that don't hurt your loyal customers as bad....

Yelp
Was craving pho and this was the closest to where we were after being out for the day. We have some of the best pho back in SoCal and this spot definitely satisfied the craving. Their fresh pork & shrimp spring rolls are extremely vermicelli heavy which I wasn't a fan of as I prefer/am used to having more veggies in it back home but their pho was flavorful and great even before adding sriracha, hoisin and the veggies. Again a little on the oiler side but came with all the proper sides and fair amount of beef so no complaints there. Just wish they offered pho with only tripe but assuming it's not as popular or well known out here which is why it wasn't offered or could be accommodated, although it was on their menu and on of the included proteins in their #1.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Maybe the cook is sick with the flu but except the egg rolls, everything else was bad. If this was the case, closing down for the day might be better option than losing customers.

Yelp
I like going here after walking at the Houston outlets. Always a filling meal at Mr. Pho! Pho noodles to meat ratio is good and spring rolls are always nicely wrapped. The mini waffles as dessert is super comfort-food level too. Would recommend trying out when you're in the area! Service is always fast and consistent. Restaurant itself is very clean.
google avatar

Diem T.

Yelp
The place was nice and quiet. Staff was nice, we had to ask for utensils since none was delivered even after we got our food. The pho was decent. My friend said broth was nice but their banh mi filling was under-filled. The viet coffee is good and strong.
google avatar

Rob G.

Yelp
overall, it's OK but the food doesn't actually taste that good there pho was not good at all.. I did it to go order. The beans sprouts were old. The broth was not clear and the noodles were not that fresh. They seemed old maybe other people have had different results but one and done for me.
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
Tried this place on a random Sunday. And we were the only customers. The food came out fast and I ordered the dry chicken pho. I don't see this dish in many viet restaurants so when I see it I order it. It was solid but was missing certain components like the fried onions and a boiled egg. But other than that the broth was good and the noodles were nice and bouncy.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Big portions, especially for the price! Service was super quick; food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Broth was flavorful, and meat was very tender. Noodles were okay; could have been cooked a tiny bit longer. Would recommend!
google avatar

Leah W.

Yelp
I've been looking for a good pho place in cypress and I think I may have found the one! I ordered the chicken pho with beef broth and the taste of the broth was very flavorful and aromatic. They give you a nice amount of noodles on the side that were topped with green onions, white onions, fried onions and cilantro. While the amount was plentiful, I would've preferred the onions and cilantro to be on the side because onions can be overpowering at times. They also give you a bag that consists of bean sprouts, thai basil, jalapeño and a piece of a lemon. Inside that bag was one pack of sriracha and 2 packs of hoisin. I wish they could've put extra in the bag, but now I know for the future. If I come back i'm looking forward to trying their eggrolls! Give Mr. Pho a try if you're thinking about it!

Alamin T.

Yelp
Service was good. But the pho had a barn yardy funk as if the bones they simmered were either old or wasn't cleaned properly. Meat portion was also off compared to other Pho restaurants. Wanted to give this place a try given that it's local and had good reviews but prob one of the worst bowls I've ever had. Maybe just a bad day for them but I will not give another chance since my wife threw up from the smell of her pho and I used bathroom several times after eating.

Danny M.

Yelp
Food was delicious, I come here very often with my partner and family! The service is always great, staff is friendly and the ambiance is very nice!

Yelp
On today's episode of BOUJEE or BOOTY: You guys, never in my life have I been gaslighted this much. First off, when we walked in, the restaurant was EMPTY and we should've known but my sister tried this place out and it was good so she was excited to show me. The waitress is clueless. She spoke both Vietnamese and English and we spoke to her in both, not sure what else we could've done to communicate with her. Still got our order wrong then tried to tell us that's what we ordered. Yeah ok. Then the food comes out and my sister finds a white hair in her banh mi sandwich. We called the waitress to let her know and she immediately called over the "owner." As soon as I open my mouth to tell her, she immediately cuts me off and says it's lemongrass. I'm like.... Ok but can I finish my sentence?? She then proceeds to gaslight me into thinking I don't know what I'm talking about. And that's what's crazy to me!! Like a simple sorry would've been fine. My dad is a chef and we deal with these things all the time. I wasn't looking for a freebie or anything, we usually just notify the waiter so they can communicate to the kitchen to be more careful. Regardless if it was a hair or a lemongrass stem, idc, it was the fact that she was so rude about it that got me. But anyway, ambiance sucks, service sucks, food dirty, and a waste of my time and energy. Attached is the picture of the "lemongrass." (Btw, she attempted to bring out some lemongrass to show us and it looked NOTHING like this "lemongrass"/hair that we found in our food. Final verdict: BOOTY with a side of gaslighting

AnnMarie G.

Yelp
So very disappointing! Did they change hands? I ordered the Pho chicken. The broth was bland , like dish water & the chicken slices, well, I don't think I've ever had tougher meat. Will not be going back.
google avatar

Jesse F.

Yelp
Aside from their young women lame customer service more worried about sitting down behind cashier table. Food was made to order and would come back for their pho P1 special. Epic garlic wings!!! Also spring rolls and beef spring rolls were one of the best rolled up tight and didn't fall apart. Restaurant was very clean and color scheme was on point. Like I said that lame customer service that just was soo lame and had to even ask for my own water after food was delivered and had to put my own dishes on another table so it wouldn't be soo crowded. I would come back and see how they do then.

Michael M.

Yelp
Come grab a delicious bowl of Pho and spring rolls! Service was quick and polite. Come grab a bowl
google avatar

Tim J.

Yelp
Pho that taste like boiled vegetable soup or worse? Coffee was decent but the food is just not good :(

Hannah T.

Yelp
Second and last time I will go there. I paid $7.15 for a cup of ice and whip cream. I had ordered the salt coffee with light ice... I went back in and asked nicely to the lady at the counter and she went back and talked to 2 other ladies and then came back and told me too bad. No refund and no replacement.
google avatar

S. Genesis D.

Yelp
I was very very sick so a friend recommended this place to me for the best soup. I ordered the Pho chicken soup and added shrimp to it. All imma say is that the chicken looked like deli meat chicken mixed with tofu (best way for me to describe the look) and the "shrimp " looked like artificial rubber crabmeat playdoh that was shaped into a shrimp. It was weird. I removed the playdoh meat and proceeded to eat the soup. My baby niece was crying for me to give it to her and I did I felt bad....like what if she gets sick, but she eats everything in front of her...so , oh well. Then they had the nerve to garnish this crap....lol as if I wouldn't notice it. Who does this. Anyways, Hours later my stomach swelled up, I felt sick. I don't know what types of ingredients they put in it but I felt nauseous, too. I wish I could have taken a picture of it but I was too ill at the time. I spent too much money for the poor quality.
google avatar

Amber W.

Yelp
The food was great. The shrimp pho was very flavorful and well made. I also enjoyed the pork spring rolls. Service was really good too!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Came here around 4PM after work and it was extremely hot when I walked in. Thought I'd be able to cool off after sitting there for awhile, but as time went by dining there, I just wanted to die. Restroom was even hotter... splurge a little and crank up the AC! It's Houston for crying out loud! After seeing tons of good reviews and delicious pictures, I thought why not! Well first mistake was hoping to get a decent bowl of pho and bun bo hue in Cypress. Second, at a place called Mr. Pho? Why did I even... well the simple reason is, bc the photos looked really good and I was starving. The BBH's broth was overly sweet and the noodles were way too soft. The perfect bbh broth is a combo of sweet, savory, essence of lemongrass and chili oil. And where my blood cake and pork hock at?! Not to mention the thinly sliced cabbage...? Y'all skimping on the real stuff! However, I do admit the beef was cooked to perfection, and it was not overly dry like most places. Overall, meat A+ but broth C. I had to ask for extra limes and chili oil to fix the broth to my tasting. All of the lime pieces they served me but one from the veggie dish were all dried out... please only serve decent limes. If you clearly see that the lime is dry when cutting into it, why bother serving it?! And y'all only give half a wedge at both restaurant and To-go. Whyyyyy are y'all so cheap with freaking limes??? Ordered pho and a banh mi for hubs. When I said only cha lua (Vietnamese ham) I did not only mean give me bread and ham. Where da veggies at?! I swear the communication needs some work. I spoke in both Viet and English but he was still confused. Pho broth was way too strong! Easy on the aromatics will ya... I literally can taste the star anise and cinnamon. Lawd... and they skimped out on the meat this time?! Whyyyy can't y'all get it right? BBH's meat was extremely good, but not the broth. Pho broth was too strong and little meat... y'all are KILLING MEEEE!!!

Yelp
Ordered takeout. We got the number one Pho ,pork vermicelli, spring rolls and Vietnamese iced coffee. We have been there many times. This was our first takeout. The Pho broth was packed separately from the rest of the order. It was hot and steaming by the time we got home. Then it was just a matter of adding it to the dry ingredients. The bean sprouts and herbs were also packaged separately. The broth was outstanding and needed no other sauces added to it. A year ago, we were in Saigon and ate at many different pho restaurants. Mr. Pho is as close as it gets to those wonderful places. we will go there again soon.

Yulu C.

Yelp
Horrible service, the older lady was nice but not the 2 other girl. Waited so long for any type of service and when we asked for to go box they were even cleaning other tables then giving us the boxes, we ended up leaving and not taking it to go still ended up giving 18 percent tips but never again
google avatar

Cosmin G.

Yelp
Excellent pho and service. If you're in the mood for great Pho try this place out. Highly recommend.
google avatar

birdie _.

Yelp
Service wasn't great, pho wasn't bad but the milk tea was really gross . I'm glad that I gave this place a chance. Still on my journey finding a go to pho place in cypress.
google avatar

Henry O.

Yelp
Stopped in tonight for dinner, to my surprise it was a total miss. Nothing was seasoned properly and both vermicelli dishes were very bland. Prices also went up which didn't reflect on their QR coded menu. Pork tasted old and reheated and was not seasoned at all. Ordered the pork/shrimp spring rolls and couldn't even finish more than one between two people. I've ordered in the past and didn't have issues. This time it just wasn't seasoned at all. For spending over $30 for two entrees I really expected more
google avatar

Ryan V.

Yelp
Best Pho Banh Mi and coffees in cypress. Once a week I grab the pho and it never disappoints. Broth is savory and meats are fresh and tasty

Steve F.

Yelp
Ordered online for pickup. We got 2 Bahn mi sandwiches. The order was ready when promised. My chicken bahn mi was excellent. My wife thought her beef bahn mi was very good. I am sure we will try them again.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This was my first time to eat here. I ordered to go. Tofu pho was amazing. Eggs rolls were also very good!

Jonathan S.

Yelp
First impression when walking in is the service, how attentive you are. They are slow, empty restaurant and they just walk around. 2 employees working the floor and just wondering around looking at the walls instead of checking on the customers. One person ask what we wanted to drink to having another one ask for drinks again. Why would you ask for drinks then sit down? No communication whatsoever. Food is mediocre. The pork had hair on it, not human hair but pork hair, honestly that's nasty. I won't recommend this place.

Flowers H.

Yelp
Food is good but the service is awful. Both servers that were there were extremely rude and annoyed throughout our service. We were extremely nice but after waiting almost 10 minutes for a cup of water when the place wasnt bust was extremely crazy. Once again food is great but dont expect good servic.
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
Great reviews and I've missed Vietnamese cuisine but ended up disappointed. The place was well appointed and service was ok. Egg rolls were on point but there was something off with the pork vermicelli. The pork was either undercooked or bad and I couldn't eat it. I will give it another try if I'm out that way but today's experience won't have me rushing.
google avatar

E K.

Yelp
The pho sub subpar. Won't be going back after the extra charge for using a credit card instead of cash. This was not posted anywhere that I could see.

Ceaira

Yelp
very rude they laughed when i was told them I didn't receive my order for food ordered online and proceeded to say they can't help me.

Jinglei L.

Yelp
Did not like the service there, if you call that a service. We walked in today and things started to go south. After short period of waiting, I told the lady " a table for two". She did not say anything about where we can sit and just went to the back. We followed her and then realized it was the kitchen. Then she pointed at a table for us. We went to the table and there was still somebody's leftover. Then we had to wait and watch her cleaning the table. After that she pushed the chair closer to the table. I asked if we were meant to sit here or the other place. If you push the chair inward, does it mean this table is not ready for use. We did not get any explanation at all. We decided not dining there after all these. We will not come back.

Maya K.

Yelp
Always such good service and the best pho in cypress. The staff is so friendly and always quick to get you your order!

Jacinda G.

Yelp
The pho is excellent and I also love the shaking beef. Service is great as well. Love this place!!

Dan T.

Yelp
This is the worst place I ever eaten in my life. I ordered bun thit nguong cha gio and my pork smelled so bad. I couldn't eat my meal and told the girls out front that your pork is spoiled and it smelled. I gave them $20 dollars to get the hell out of there. I ordered ice tea and it was supposed to be grilled pork with egg roll noodles but I can tell the meat is not grilled but stir fried. I was super hungry because I did not eat lunch. If this is the meat they put in their banh mi and other dishes then that is grossed. Those girls told me to come back and I was like no thank you and I paid them the full amount and left. At least the ice tea was good and not spoiled. I am never going back here again..terrible Vietnamese place in cypress

Erica G.

Yelp
Found a new pho spot! My family and I came for the pho of course. We started out with spring rolls which were pretty good! I had the small chicken pho bowl which was plenty. (Even though we all know I can take down about 3) I'm trying to be modest and lessen my portions yall. Anyways, a great bowl of chicken pho goes a long way. I recommend stopping by if you haven't tried Mr. PHO! Fresh and great taste.. you can't go wrong!
google avatar

Robyn C.

Yelp
The broth base was full of flavor. I didn't need to add anything to it. Service was fast.
google avatar

Kristine H.

Yelp
Great food, quick and amazing service. This is our go to spot instead of fast food (but just as fast)!
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
If you like Bahn Mi....this place is incredible. I would give 6 stars if I could. If you don't like them, then you probably don't like flavor. I drove from downtown Houston all the way out here and got it twice in one day because it was just that good. I just randomly found this place and it wasn't even my first choice foe lunch. Then it quickly became my first choice for dinner. On top of that the staff is friendlier than a significant other meeting your very southern parents for the first time. If you've ever gotten upset with anyone here, I promise it was your fault not theirs. I promise. Having a bad experience here is like going to the Sistine Chapel and saying they could've added more art. . .
google avatar

Cristian V.

Yelp
Its nice and quiet, ample seating, clean bathrooms. Customer service was awesome, very friendly and not overbearing, took theor time to be sure our orders were good. Food was amazing, got a p6 and a grilled chicken bahn mi. Pho was great, broth was flavorful, a bit heavier than im used to but def hit the spot. The bahn mi was great chicken was cooked perfectly very moist. My only regret is not trying one of their specials or snagging a spring roll order to go. Over all 10/10 definitely coming back again.
google avatar

Melanie T.

Yelp
Pho here is pretty good a little on the sweeter side. But the small portion is honestly perfect for myself. It's a pretty small bowl tho. Great for hangovers lol

Yelp
There are currently 2 overlapping results for Mr. Pho. This one appears to be from an earlier business that has moved to Cypress around mid-April 2019, whereas the other result is for the brand new location - not sure which one of these will prevail. Ambience is modern, simple and nice, befitting its existence in 2019. Food was good, but some items are not present at this time - e.g. tripe and tendon for Pho, and some drink choices. Prices also appear to be slightly higher than average compared to other pho places. Definitely worth a revisit for us - planning to update the review as the place matures.

Starr T.

Yelp
i have visited Mr Pho many times and always leave satisfied today i ordered the chicken vermicelli and a P2 pho with my favorite eggrolls with extra sauce always hits the spot with my date, he loved the fresh lemonade made on the spot , thankyou Adrian for being kind and attentive. service was great today and the restaurant was pretty neat. i hope Mr.Pho gets the business it deserves always !
