"Since 1984, Mr. Sushi has been serving excellent sushi rolls, banging on its big gong, and singing a unique rendition of the “Happy Birthday” song night after night in Addison. A fan favorite is the restaurant’s Green Mussel Dynamite: green mussels tossed in a spicy sauce, then baked and served in the shell with a squeeze of lemon." - Courtney E. Smith, Rachel Pinn

While in Texas, Mr Sushi is a must. Ben aka Mr Sushi himself made and served our sushi. Lucky us! Never even touched a menu, he delivered an amazing variety of the house specialties. What a royal treat! Fresh and delicious! Mushroom soup, fresh pairs, colorful and tender, hand rolls, with perfectly cooked sushi rice and the grand finale was rum cake with green tea ice cream. The presentation and execution was a ten out of ten. Also, wanted to give a shout out to Leo, who made us a special melt in your mouth salad, as well as spoiled us with Hi-Chew and Poky. Fabulous experience! Left full, but already planning our next visit. Thank you for the phenomenal experience! Cheers!

Mr. Sushi is always a solid and reliable spot to eat. The quality of their food is consistent across the years, and that quality is really good. I have never had anything bad here, and they have, in my tastes, the best tamago I have had in the area. The service is always good, and on my last visit our server was very kind and accommodating with asking the chef questions we had without making us feel bad for asking. Our food and drinks were flowing freely, never had an empty glass. I love the atmosphere here. It is laid back, kind of old school decor, and no music playing. The lighting is cozy but not so dark you can't see the menu. The other patrons aren't loud. It's a nice place to eat, drink, and catch up with your loved ones.

Nothing bad but nothing special and pretty pricey. Very quiet, quaint atmosphere and great service. The sushi was nothing to come back for... Really unimpressive as far as options and the rolls appearance and quality.

Google
Really good Japanese spot! Had no idea it has been open for 40 years. The floors are carpet! I’m a fan of that. The udon was my favorite dish here. The noodles were good and the broth was tasty. I also liked the una don (grilled eel). The chicken katsu curry was also great. I liked their chicken karaage over some other Japanese spots that serve the same dish. It was noticeably good. The unagi (eel) sushi was delicious. Definitely order Monaka for dessert! It’s like a Japanese ice cream sandwich, basically. The ice cream is inside wafers! It’s really good. We had vanilla. The other ice cream flavor for Monaka was green tea, but we had ordered a scoop of green tea ice cream and mango ice cream as well and didn’t like either of them. I suggest vanilla for Monaka. Really friendly staff and great service! I wouldn’t be opposed to returning for a second visit.

The best and oldest sushi bar in Dallas or Texas, for that matter. Ben, Scott and staff are the best in the business. I've been going there since 1984. Trust me when I say. It's the best!

What a treat! The chief was awesome! The sushi and nigiri were devoured. Excellent customer service on top of that. Finished with a delicious rum cake. 🤤 The Toro nigiri was on point!!! Will definitely be back

Google
We had a pleasant time. We went to this place based on Reddit recommendations. It was the best sushi we've had in a very long time with extremely professional service. Our waiter, David, was so sweet and knowledgeable. He gave us great recommendations and we look forward to going back. 😊

Google
An amazing sushi restaurant. The staff was all so amazing, and every single piece of fish was so fresh and delicious. Really unique dishes, and they also nailed the classics. We had a lovely time and some amazing sushi.

Yelp
Great service, wonderful interior and atmosphere and some of the BEST sushi around! I highly recommend!

Yelp
Visited Mr. Sushi on a busy Friday evening .. Couldn't get Bar seating :-( as such opted for the table .. Fino, our server, was awesome .. Service is always great here, BTW ... And so is the food ... Always love the Tuna, Yellow Tail, Salmon with Ponzu sauce. Spider rolls are a must. This time I tried the Devil's roll and they had a nice zing to them ... Topped it off with my fav Rum cake with a side of Mango and Vanilla ice-cream. When in Dallas, this is a must-see place ...

Yelp
Always fresh sushi and creative choices. Love the unique options. Sushi and rolls are great. Can't make a bad choice here. Suggest sampling all.

Yelp
It was Christmas day and we were anxious to get out. thankfully when it came down to pick a place for dinner Mr. Sushi was open! I had been craving sushi, so I was definitely ready to satisfy this craving. The place was packed but the speed of service didn't have you waiting long for your drinks, appetizers, and entree. We ordered Mushroom Miso ($3) and Beef Tataki ($11) for appetizers. Loved the mushroom miso and it was a great change from you typical seaweed and tofu. The beef tataki was so tender and overall, a great flavor with the sauce. Our sushi selection was a great selection what was available. I couldn't have been happier with the freshness of the fish and the ingredients. Since we sat at the sushi bar, we had the chance to watch how our sushi was made with care and precision. I can't wait to return with friends and family! Sushi Order: Octopus (not pictured) $7 Squid ($6) Japanese Snapper ($10) Caterpillar Roll ($14) Mr. Sushi Roll ($8) Drinks of choice: Saki & Kirin Beer

Yelp
This was my second time at Mr. Sushi, and what stood out to me the most both times was the service. The servers are very attentive, gentle, efficient, and friendly, and so I felt welcomed in the cozy environment. All the nigiris and sushis were very fresh and delicious, especially the salmon belly nigiri.

Yelp
Love this restaurant for a chill omakase!! :) I apparently started this review eons ago, but forgot to finish it. Oops. If you're looking for omakase, come check out Mr. Sushi. Came recommended by friends, is obviously recommended on Yelp, and is DELICIOUS. It is NOT a set course omakase (at least when we went, it wasn't). We sat down at the bar (come earlier than later!), said hit us with sushi/omakase, and they kept the fish rolling until we said we were stuffed. :) Please see photos for drool-inducing deliciousness. I look forward to coming back for my bday!

Kate M.

Yelp
Straight up great neighborhood sushi restaurant. Service was terrific. Miso soup, edamame, couple of sushi rolls. All great. This isn't a fancy place. It's comfortable. I was there solo reading a book and wasn't rushed or bothered. I am glad I took a wrap as it was chilly inside. Nothing wrong with that, but be prepared! I'll probably go back this week I'm in town!

Suzanne F.

Yelp
AWESOME food, service. And traditional atmosphere. They only get uni IF it is excellent or they r out. I prefer that. Luvs luvs luvs my uni and quail egg! Monkfish liver sashimi & snapper w lemon zest n sea salt and Japanese cold champagne amazing!!! Been going since opened eons ago. And have turned many peeps onto this place for decades. Go check it out if u haven't! Tons of regulars.

Yelp
A great option for dine-in sushi in Addison with reasonable prices and great quality. The miso soup is a good starter and the Rainbow Roll is a favorite. Have never had an issue with walking in and getting a table, but it can definitely get busy. Casual atmosphere that's welcoming for families and date nights alike.

LaToya A.

Yelp
The restaurant was quite busy and seems to be very popular. The prices are good for sushi and the staff was nice (though they could probably use a couple more servers to aid in taking orders expeditiously). I particularly enjoyed the hamachi collar and egg custard (I forget the name but it very good)

Anthony B.

Yelp
This restaurant is the most authentic Japanese establishment for Sushi and other dishes. This business has a long history in DFW, is family owned, and always has something special to exhibit for customers such as pounding on the traditional drum during a birthday, or even offering seasonal menu items. If you go, please..... go to the sushi bar, all of the individuals there are talented, and give great recommendations and can even give you an omakase-style experience. All of the fish they use here is fresh and actually believe it or not....from the Toyosu fish market in Japan, they do an excellent job of preparing and preserving their ingredients with quality. The ambiance is very local, some customers have been going for years, and the owner Akira-San is always greeting everyone and loves to make the patrons feel welcome. I had the opportunity to travel to Japan last year, and not going to lie, the sushi here is as close as you can get.

Carmen C.

Yelp
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! It was hot (105), and I was looking for something refreshing to eat, so my mind automatically went to sushi. Came to this spot as a recommendation from a gentleman at a previous restaurant where the service was horrible, and I walked out. I sat down at the sushi bar and just told the chef to surprise me and create. And create he did !! No rolls , just sushi pieces. I wish I knew the names because he just put things together. I definitely definitely definitely recommend this spot and I will for sure be back when I come into Texas . Did I mention he was having shots and drinking with the patrons?! Yyyyeeaaas!

Amber Z.

Yelp
Great Service. Ambience is nice: quiet and pleasant. Tempura is crispy and not greasy. Gyu don tastes good but disappointed with little beef/lots of rice amount and the rice is just normal jasmine rice - not Japanese rice.

Erin S.

Yelp
love mr sushi. the fish is always super fresh and delicious and I appreciate that they have some more authentic japanese dishes along with the more common americanized dishes, catering to everyone. The employees are always very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and different options or things you would love.

Juliet M.

Yelp
Great server and food! Leo served us and was very attentive to us. Leo had great recommendations and served us things that were not on the menu. Please come try it out!! The vibes were nice as well since it is a family restaurant.

M B.

Yelp
Huge shout out to LEO!! We had an absolute blast and the food was the best we've EVER had!!! Strongly suggest ordering Omakase. We do this at reputable authentic sushi restaurants and have been to several in Texas and even California!! Mr Sushi is by far the best and has become our new go to for fantastic food!! The staff is all wonderful. Highly recommend giving it a try and order Omakase (chefs choice) from the sushi bar! Advice: if you have a financial budget for dinner make sure you let your chef know. Best to go without a budget just to experience the absolute best flavors and experience. They have fresh ingredients and experienced chefs! Last thing, the ambiance is wonderful, low lighting and a really neat culture experience with kumi-daiko (Japanese drumming)

Leanne G.

Yelp
We had a celebration dinner at Mr Sushi. We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef prepare our meal for us. They were very attentive and suggested a few specials in addition to the sushi. All amazing - food, service, and atmosphere. For the sushi, we had a mix of sashimi, sushi, and rolls. The fish was very fresh. For a few of the dishes, the chef prepared the fish with some light sauces and seasoning. It was delicious. The mango sorbet was a refreshing treat at the end of the meal. I highly recommend having the chef prepare your meal; however, the price was a bit higher than I expected. Next time, I may put a price range on the meal.

Molly J.

Yelp
Our first time here and we will never go anywhere else in the DFW area for sushi! We sat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of getting to know Bensan and Leosan. Leo recommended dish after dish and made us several off the menu items. Everything was amazing. They get fresh ingredients daily Monday through Saturday. We especially enjoyed their seasonal mushroom soup and the signature rum cake with green tea ice cream. You will not be disappointed!

Rickey W.

Yelp
Mr. Sushi is an excellent spot to get classic sushi that is really fresh. If you have any questions about anything on the menu, the wait staff is excellent at offering

Corey D.

Yelp
Decent food but great atmosphere. Super authentic feeling in this restaurant that comes through in the service and food. I would definitely come back to try other options but wasn't super impressed by the food. I got the Gyudon and it was decent. Good flavor and prepared nicely. For a sushi restaurant I wasn't overly impressed by the sushi but I would return to try other options.

Charles T.

Yelp
Hope I got the right place ... Mr sushi in Addison Tx .. order combo fried rice ... it's absolutely the worst I've eaten... no flavor .. got it to go plated it and such a small quantity.. mostly no flavor but my family loves this place , don't know why

Alex D.

Yelp
I went here for dinner one night with a friend and was quite disappointed after the stellar reviews. I did not get to sit at the sushi bar which may be part of the reason why. The service was fine overall but the food quality and size for the price left much to be desired. I started off with an order of deep fried Gyoza $7.00 for 6 pieces. These were perfectly fried but the sauce it came with was not to my liking. This was probably the best thing I had all night. I also got a Miso Soup $3.00 was was fine but generic. For sushi we shared the CA Volcano Roll $23.00, Jalapeno Roll $12.00, Philadelphia Roll $10.00, Cajun Roll $8.00 and an order of Salmon Sashimi $21.00 6 pieces. The volcano roll was probably the best tasting but really skimped on the amount of topping. Maybe 8 baby scallops total and did not resemble a volcano like most sushi places make it. The Jalapeno roll had a tiny sliver of crab in it, barely could see it and no noticeable jalapeno as it had zero spice and was basically just avocado. The Philadelphia roll was okay but also quite skimpy on the salmon and cream cheese, pretty small pieces. The Cajun roll was completely flavorless and bland. The Salmon sashimi was also stringy and chewy. I know places have off nights but it will be real low on my list to go back and try this place again with so many better sushi places in the area.

Patty T.

Yelp
I absolutely love this sushi gem. Troy is the Best entertainment behind the sushi bar! I went last night and found out he is in the hospital. Prayers for him. Patrick did a great job taking care of us last night. Ambiance wasn't the same it was morbidly too quiet. Sushi here is still amazing. Need background noise.

Christopher L.

Yelp
Mr. Sushi is a truly delicious hidden gem. The service is amazing, bar none. When you sit at the sushi bar with Ben-san, he makes you feel like family. As if you guys are old friends, it's really the best. Their ingredients are fresh and although their omakase is simple, it's delightful & thought-out. If you like hotate (scallop), make sure you ask for the one with the almond cream on top. I could eat maybe 21 of these. Overall, the ambience of the restaurant is clean, traditional, and cozy. 10/10 experience. Thank you Mr. Sushi and your amazing hospitality.

Elaine M.

Yelp
Seated right away on a Saturday night this place was happenin! We were welcomed with some traditional drumming which was a really nice treat! We were HUNGRY and ordered a smattering of dishes fried oysters, sashimi combo, salmon sashimi (my daughter's choice!), and tiger eye. I paired it with a hot green tea which was perfect for the fall weather we are experiencing. The fish was perfect temperature and it melted in your mouth! The fish was also very flavorful and fresh, oh my goodness! I definitely need to come back and get the oyster shooter. I'll have to bring my tooshie back to mr. Sushi!!! LOL

Calder L.

Yelp
Ben-san is amazing, as are all the other chefs. Don't know what to eat? Ask for the omakase and tap out at any time. This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in town and easily deserves 5 stars.

Donovan C.

Yelp
Amazing sushi! Superior service to all of the other sushi joints in the area. Don't let the strip mall appearance throw you - this place is far higher quality than some extremely fancy sushi places in DFW.

Caprice F.

Yelp
Good sushi. Good prices. Great service. I've been to Mr. Sushi twice and both times I was impressed with how friendly and fast the service was by the entire staff. The prices at Mr. Sushi are also very good with maki rolls starting at $5. They also have a full bar and make pretty good cocktails. Their side toss salad and gyoza are pretty good as well as their rolls. For some quick, casual, easy, inexpensive and yummy sushi, you can't beat Mr. Sushi.

Phuong N.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday, and they were so attentive and kind. Our waitress was so nice and made sure our food came out perfectly. Took special care to celebrate those who had a birthday i our party with complimentary dessert. The vibe was more a traditional Japanese restaurant.

Matt B.

Yelp
Great food, great service, the staff is always friendly and the ambiance inside always feels authentic. The sushi always tastes great. They have an awesome reward program too! I will always keep coming back for more.

John S.

Yelp
After my recent disastrous service experience at Akaya Sushi in Richardson, I ordered pretty much the same meal here in another large group setting. This time, both the service and food were flawless. Our large group had two servers who brought soups and salads out right away, and all service was fast and attentive. Sushi was freshly prepared and delicious. It was nice to see great execution of a large group meal!

Vinh T.

Yelp
Bad customer service. The waiter sat us then move us to table near the bathroom. We end up leave the place. Will never come back to this restaurant.

Soo J.

Yelp
Authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. Fish were fresh, rice was well seasoned, and the service was great! We got the salmon Ju and another Ju with various sashimi and it came with 2 miso soups and 2 big portions of salad. We had a lot of fun with these and left feeling satisfied!

Jay G.

Yelp
Not a great meal. Very heavy on the wasabi (which is often a sign of the fish not being fresh) and more importantly very uneven on the wasabi between pieces. We had 10ish orders of sushi (2 pieces per order) and most were average or subpar. We did have a seared salmon belly with garlic which was very good, but nothing else was memorable. In addition to the sushi, we had two rolls (the Mr Sushi roll and something else) and neither was memorable. The saki suggested to me was an upsell, but was very good. For $210 for 2 people I would have hoped for better.

Pam C.

Yelp
The sushi here warrants 5 starts. I sampled the rainbow roll, jalapeño crab roll and the yellowtail belly sushi. All were extraordinary fresh and generous portioned. The wasabi tasted particularly good, in comparison to other sushi restaurants. The service warrants less stars. We sat at the sushi bar and I think the servers forgot us. We waited a long time for drinks and soy sauce. The atmosphere is casual. There were a lot of regulars as the staff seemed to know people by name. Will definitely return and see if the service is better when seated at a table.

Stanley M.

Yelp
One of the oldest Sushi restaurants around, I've been going there for a good 20+ years. Went back and it was as good as ever. The chef was conversant about their sushi. He made some excellent suggestions of alternatives to what we believed was the best they had. They place has not been remodeled for as long as. I can remember. It gives it that "established" look. No surprises. Just great food. It's packed on the weekends, so be aware that off hours might be better if you don't want to wait for a table. Great place to eat. It's still on my "return to eat' list when I'm in North Dallas.

Letecia D.

Yelp
On 5/25/2024, I ate at this restaurant along with another individual and both of us became sick the next date, food not fresh! Also, in my opinion the items are overpriced and portions weren't enough for two. The server was nice and food was present at table quick; to bad we both have had stomach issues less than 24 hours.

Monique M.

Yelp
Service today from Yukiro was top notch. She was so quick and attentive. We ordered smoked salmon, Japanese scallop, unagi, tamago (3rd restaurant in DFW that makes it the right way!) nigiri. Cajun roll was alright. Presentation and flavor weren't the best. I also ordered soft shell crab. My husband thinks it tastes great, but for some reason it didn't hit the spot for me. Overall, I come back to this location bc of their nigiri, and they don't disappoint!

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Tried Mr Sushi to-go for the first time! They were really quick and it was tasty. I got salmon and yellowtail nigiri with scallions. The fish was very fresh! I also got a spider roll which provided a nice crunch. Based on other reviews, I definitely want to come back and dine-in. Great local spot!

Bri M.

Yelp
Excellent service. Very welcoming. Sushi chefs are the best in dallas. Pieces are always delicious and fresh. Low key ambiance.

Lara C.

Yelp
This place has been around forever and quality is consistent. I think the prices are fair and enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. Great for lunch or dinner!

Hazel O.

Yelp
Customer service is just ok... food was descent but not amazing. I'd not purposefully go back but wouldn't avoid either.

Kendall N.

Yelp
Our server was Fion. She was so warm and prompt and kind! Delicious food. The salmon Ju is my favorite. Beautiful mural.

Mo V.

Yelp
So they had wild sushi which was amazing... the bathroom needs a deep cleaning. Was pretty smelly. The ginger was the cheap reddish ginger. And the wasabi seemed off. But AT LEAST they had wild salmon overall I don't know if I would come back though...

Michelle T.

Yelp
Nice, quality sushi with a chill vibe. All staff were in masks and customers were socially distanced. Tried a few appetizers including the shrimp tempura and takoyaki. The shrimp tempura was light, but not too crispy. The takoyaki was flavorful and delicious. For sushi, we ordered the Mr. Sushi roll and Rainbow roll. All were decently portioned and super fresh. We also ordered Kirin Ichiban and House Sake and it was nicely paired. Definitely try this place out in Addison if you're looking for fresh sushi and a quiet nice out!

Misa P.

Yelp
Hubby and I came here yesterday for an early v-day celebration. We were hoping for some good and authentic sushi and was wanting to try a new place out. We ordered a couple of nigiris off of the menu and I was pretty disappointed. The chef put so much wasabi on the sushi that I was not able to taste the sushi at all. The only thing I tasted was the wasabi and it burned so bad! The sushi was also not the best quality as well . For a place that looks authentic ... the quality was pretty bad . My husband also ordered soba ... which never made it to the table. Bottom line is ... I probably will never come back here . We should have went to Fujiyama like we were planning to ... instead of trying this place out.

Helen S.

Yelp
Good laidback place and great quality sushi. I ordered the Devil roll (it was fresh but had lots of wasabi, I would not order it again), then ordered the Hole in One which had tuna, crab and avocado and it was very tasty, the wagyu beef sushi was delicious ($8 for 2 pieces). I sat at the sushi bar and the chefs were pretty quiet. Also FYI, if you are very concerned about covid, chefs do not wear gloves and use their bare hands to craft your sushi.

T Forrest Bradford ..

Yelp
This is tied for my favorite sushi bar. Sushi Sake edges it out on some thing, but Mr. Sushi is more laid back. At Sushi Sake you have to get in there wait to get a seat and often all you can get is a shared table, which is fine, but sub-optimal. Mr. Sushi is always welcoming and casual and high quality without the wait in a cramped unairconditioned reception waiting for the rest of your party or for a table to open. While Sushi Sake is a victim of their own success Mr. Sushi has always been there and always reliable for a laid back good time with good sushi. You can relax there. No hassles and no hurry.

Tyler C.

Yelp
I travel all over and I have to say that this is one of the best sushi dining experiences I have had. The chef was extremely attentive, the fish was fresh and expertly prepared, and the order / cadence to the dishes I order was the best I have ever seen. When I am in the area, this will be the only place I will go.
