Mr Tofu House

First time here, got the pork Kimchi-jjigae Dish and the beef bi bam bap both were flavorful. Ambiance and service was nice. Food was tasty as well, meat portions in the bi bam bap were light compared to most Korean restaurants.

When it's cold out, they serve tea in a metal cup that warms up nicely, and in the summer, ice water in a glass. Also, a milk tea (boba) selection is available only in the late summer, with a limited flavor section! 🧋 I've sat here drinking so much hot tea, I've nearly fallen asleep (usually only 3 cups max lol) 🍵 As for food, I can't help but order the same three lunch dishes in rotation here, because they are SOOO perfect. B16. 비빔밥 / Bibimbab, with chicken is best imo, or just extra tofu which is really good here B14. 닭불고기덮밥 / Dak Bulgogi Deop Bab (Chicken only) B13. 잡채덮밥 / Japchae Deop Bab, best with beef or pork for me You can choose your meat for two of these, or even order extra toppings I've recently started trying the Pan Fried Kimchi option instead of meat, and it goes so well... I recommend going for the chicken w any dish and asking for pan fried kimchi as an extra. About $3-4 for extra of any topping, worth it for lunch options. You'll still spend under $20 for a very filling meal If you really like bimbimbap, go for the Hot Stone bowl, dinner entree only, under F1. And don't skip the fried egg, you're missing out! Every bite of melted golden yolk over steamed white rice is a bite of heaven in any dish here 🤍💛🍚🍳

9/1/24 This cute little place has a welcoming atmosphere and polite service. The banchan were delicious, offering a variety of flavors. The Seafood Pancake was a bit lacking in seafood, but it was crispy on the outside. The mushroom tofu stew was flavorful and satisfying. The short rib was exceptionally tender. It's usually a tough cut, but this one was cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The japchae was a little too sticky for my preference, but overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Great mom and pop shop! They sell their house kimchi which usually disappears in a couple of days after I buy it. They play kpop music videos in the background but not too loud so it’s still easy to have conversation.

Very low sodium for korean food lol but it seems adjusted for the Wayne demographic. As a Korean, I would find this place to be too bland, but this was perfect for traveling. Especially for a long drive. The auntie is so kind, we will come back when visiting the area again!

Very good food but on the simpler side. Yet, it's one of the better Korean restaurants in the northern NJ area. Classic NJ location, in a strangest strip mall by a railway track. Very decent kimchi. The proprietor is very sweet but appears to be managing the floor herself so service can be a bit slow. Definitely worth a visit.

If you’re looking for a homey Korean style restaurant that serves delicious tofu soup and Korean classics this is your place! I loved the food and it was exactly what I was craving plus the price is too good!! Definitely coming back here again and trying a new menu item! KIMCHI JIGAE WAS SO GOOD

Over the past couple of years this place has become one of our favorite hangouts and def the best Korean option near our home. Our favorites are the tofu soup, scallion pancake, bibimbap and bulgogi. Service is great, though when things get busy it def slows down. BYOB, however there are no near liquor stores so plan a head, or drive 10 minutes

Overall, the place is not bad except it was pretty pricey. $2 for an extra bowl of rice which was unheard of. The service was pretty good. The lady was running the whole place by herself which was impressive. I wish the onions for the bulgogi were cooked.

This was our third visiting Mr Tofu House and we always stopped by around lunchtime yet we haven't taken advantage of their lunch specials (12:30-2:00 PM) that have lower-priced items like bibimbap or japchae. We always opt for the $13 tofu soup. The place is small but clean and comfortable, has lots of parking because is situated in a mini plaza, and great service by what I assume is the owner (she's very attentive) my favorite part about the tofu soup on a cold day is the side dishes the soup always comes with a small bowl of white rice and smaller bowls with refillable kimchi, cabbage in a bit of white vinegar, marinated cucumber slices and edamame. Good to know there's a delicious Korean restaurant in the Wayne area.

A casual authentic Korean restaurant where you are sure to find a comforting meal, great service in a homely setting. Stopped in for an early dinner and got the pork loin in spicy pepper sauce served with steaming sticky rice. Generous serving of thinly sliced pork with onions in spicy sauce cane out sizzling its enough for two to be honest and what I appreciated here is the fact they serve the pork on the bed of onions as my daughter doesn't like chunks of onions. Their complimentary starters include hot tea, edamame, kimchee, fish cakes and pickled cabbage without the chili. A truly delicious experience!

Pretty solid spot. I'm convinced Korean food is best when you have it in person vs. takeout. For complementary ban chan- you're able to make a second free order which we did for a couple ones we really loved. All of them were quite fresh! I ordered mushroom tofu stew/soondubu-kinda felt like I had to order tofu stew here given its name. They ask for your spice level and I felt like they took the cues well for mild spiciness. I will say that the amount of soup/broth was not as much as I would have liked? I can't say I've ever felt that way at other Korean restaurants, so that's the only qualm I have. Otherwise, a very enjoyable meal! Tables are spaced out apart with dividers so you have your own privates space to enjoy your meal with quietly with whomever you go with.

The food was really good and the owner is so sweet. The banchan they gave was tasty. I got the kimchi tofu soup with beef in regular spice. It wasn't as spicy as I expected but it still hit the spot

I am so happy I found a local Korean restaurant that's authentic and delicious! It's a small restaurant with limited menu, but plentiful with all of the popular dishes. We enjoyed every dish and the attentive service the staff provided. The atmosphere is casual and suitable for children (about 3 families including us). This is definitely be one of our favorite spots!

Delicious lunch and friendly service. Condiments that came out before entree were good. I ordered a special pork bone soup. I picked the meat off the bone and it was moist and delicious. Highly recommend.

I have had a lot of soondooboo in my life, because it's one of my favorite Korean dishes and this was THE BEST one I've had in a very long time. It hit the spot. It came with a variety of side dishes and they were all very good. We wanted to ask for thirds, but we felt bad haha. They have tteokbokki, kimchi, pickled cabbage, and etc. I was so surprised they gave us tteokbokki and even more surprised that it was so good. The soondooboo was relatively cheap compared to other places (we got the seafood soondooboo). We were able to choose from an array of different spice levels and I got "hot" whereas my friend got "mild." My friend said it was super good and I loved mine as well. It was so flavorful and it wasn't the type of spice where it was unpleasant + the spice didn't linger. I am very good with spice, but hot was perfect. The server was super sweet even though we came in a little late. Although the closing time is 9, the kitchen closes at 8 and takes final orders then! The vibes of this place is great. Kpop music is turned on but not loud enough that you can't have a conversation. I would come to Jersey just to have this soondooboo again! I highly recommend to try this place if you haven't already.

Located in a small shopping center. Friendly staff. For appetizer we ordered the Hae Mul Pajeon (Korean seafood & vegetable pancake) which was light and simple dish but very tasty. Ordered the bi bim bob entree, i really liked the mixture of everything together but it did need a bit more seasoning to it. Everything was good and next time i will be trying the soups.

Good place to eat after work! Tried the Du Bu Jeon, which was amazing. I haven't tried pan fried tofu before. Loved it. Also had Bi Bim Bob with chicken. Really hit the spot with just the right amount of spice (sauce on the side but still). Would recommend.

Ordered: Mixed Soondubu (~$11): assorted seafood and beef tofu soup served with egg and white rice; mild spiciness level chosen. Complementary ban chan (side dishes) Aya's take: super friendly staff, quick service, and great prices! Delicious authentic tofu soup with plenty of tofu, seafood, and beef. Ban chan (side dishes) were fine, not my preferred but went well with the meal.

Enjoyed all the dishes. Spice level hot is hot. Service was great. Cute place. We really enjoyed this place.

After hearing Mr Tofu House from our son and his family, we thought we would give it a try. Nice folks but the food was only so so. A little disappointed.

This was my first visit to Mr Tofu House. It was a Tuesday at 11:30am the day after Memorial Day. I've previously tried to eat here before on a day after a holiday but it was closed. I was told to sit wherever I'd like. I ordered the Japchae Deop Bab lunch special with pork. I enjoyed my meal while watching and listening to K-Pop music videos. The lady working was polite and smiling. The food was delicious and perhaps larger than a normal lunch serving.

Nothing good, not worthy to visit. Parking is not convenient, it was hot and the AC isn't working properly, they keep the restaurant door opened.

Had another great meal today at Mr. Tofu House in Wayne. This time I tried their Yukgaejang, which is spicy beef soup with shredded beef, scallions, bean sprouts, mushrooms and sweet potato noodles. If you like Kimchi-jjigae, definitely try this. It's incredibly satisfying on a cold winter day. Take my word on this tip though, when they ask you if you want it "spicy" or "regular", go with "regular". That is unless you really like your food very (and I mean VERY) spicy. I like spicy food, but the regular was making me sweat. That said, it was just at the prefect point where the spice didn't overwhelm the flavor. Some people have mentioned that this dish was sweet, but I didn't find it sweet at all. There was tremendous depth of savory flavors though, from the beef, mushrooms and chili. I do agree with the person who suggested adding some of the steamed rice that comes with it. Just don't dump in the whole bowl of rice. One spoonful of rice at a time is the way to go. As usual, they served four different banchan with the meal. My favorite today was the dried radish. A little spicy, a little sweet and very crunchy. Delicious. The service was just as friendly and welcoming as ever. I do wish the menu was a bit bigger, but I guess they're a small, family operation with a small staff, so they're probably doing the right thing by not overextending themselves. Still, I'd love to see Gimbap, which is great for take-out, or maybe Bibim Naengmyeon in the summer.

Many vegan options. The server was very knowledgeable about vegan options. Mild is very spicy. There are several levels of spice. Say on the plain side if unsure of spice tolerance. Kimchi is not vegan. Restaurant is very nice. Modern. Barriers between table. Able to accommodate large parties.

This is one of my favorite NJ restaurants. Always great, always friendly, and the tofu stews are intoxicating. Absolutely love it.

Pretty much every single I come here, I have had nothing but a good experience. Food is always fresh, restaurant is always clean and the service is nothing short of excellent. Another good point is that the menu is VERY accessible, with you being able to choose how spicy you want your food, a must if someone has a low spice tolerance. Come here if you want authentic Korean food.

Always a great meal! We've had the C5 almost every time, but recently have been trying some new things. We had the Kimchi Stew today and it was so good! A new favorite. Can't go wrong with anything you order!

What a lovely surprise! When just driving through places, how you eat tends to be a crap shoot. You don't know what you're going to get. I'm happy to report Mr. Tofu House is a good spot to land. The food was all super fresh and really tasty. The place was clean, and the waitstaff was just delightful. If you want Korean food that tastes homemade, this is the place for you.

Soondubu (Korean soft tofu soup) is one of my favorite Korean dishes to eat (and it doesn't matter if its 100 degrees out, I'll still eat this!) and I always go to another place around the area but wanted to try something new. Find this spot and decided to give it a shot and had dinner with a friend here. I ordered the Soondubu and she ordered the Ramen. I thought the food was just mediocre at best - I eat Korean food pretty often so my standards are pretty high. The Soondubu here is bit pricier than the other place that I go to and this location is further from me so unfortunately, I don't think I'll be visiting any time soon. My friend enjoyed her ramen but said she also had better ramen at a different Korean spot. Overall not that impressed but the service was good. Ambiance is alright.

Always liked this place but never tried the HOT Bi Bim Bob until recently... it is now my favorite dish! ( I had it with Pork) ... and love the hot sauce ( a little sweet).

Food is always so good here and the service and owners are very sweet. Definitely recommend.

No idea how I've never come to this very vegan friendly, Korean restaurant. Food was spicy, delicious and served hot. Our hostess was super accommodating and happy to answer my questions. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes. Loved everything!

This place is amazing and a hidden gem. No longer do I need to go to Fort Lee/Pal Park for authentic Korean food. Everything we had here was stellar. Food was not greasy. Service was outstanding and the owner is incredibly kind. Will definitely have to return for lunch specials! Banchan was solid. Galbi was perfect. Bulgogi noodle soup and the Naengmyeon were perfect. Seafood pancake was perfect.

I'd say this is best Korean restaurant in the area. Family owned that provides great service, clean environment, and amazing food! I love that the lady waitress/owner is always cheerful and in good spirit. I go here weekly for my tofu soup fix and it never disappoints. It's always consistent and flavorful. I've also had most things on the menu.. my favorites would be: - sweet and spicy chicken - japchae - beef soup with thin noodles(sweet broth) - seafood pancake - spicy pork over rice All dishes stated above are super super delicious. If you're in the Wayne(or neighboring) area, there's no need to go towards Palisades Park/Fort Lee for Korean food, Mr. Tofu house serves some of the best Korean food you'll ever have. Love love this place!.

Such a nice little restaurant in the area! The banchan that comes with the meal are very nice. I got the seafood and beef tofu stew and the yukgaejang and both were very good and perfect for the cold weather. The service is very nice, the owners are very kind! Definitely would stop by again when I'm in the area!

So yummy. Went back recently and still one of my fav Korean spot. I think it's pretty low key which is why I think I love it so much. There are also plenty of starter apps which keeps you happy when your belly is empty!

A little pricy, yes but how can you not love the sweet older lady serving you... plus the food was great! Only good things to say about this place! The venue is small, there was just the one lady serving everyone but she was quick, so polite and always close by if we needed something! The food was excellent! As good as any tofu soup I've had and who doesn't like a place that means spicy what they say spicy. Really excellent vibe, wonderful service, and excellent food. We'll be back!

LOVE this friendly Korean spot! The service is fantastic as this place is a classic family run business. In addition, the service is very quick for those who lack patience . I've been to Mr Tofu House 3 times and ordered the following: -Tofu Soup with kimchi and beef -Traditional Bi Bim Bob with beef -LA Gal Bi (marinated beef ribs in house special sauce)...this was to die for -Kim Chi Pajeon (Pancake with Kimchi) -Hae Mul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake) Every dish is different and comes with all the side fixings: radish, kimchi, potatoes, rice and sweet cabbage. Highly recommend trying this place if you enjoy Korean food. Even if you've never had it before, still try it out...they have all the classics!

We went here because of other Yelper's recommendation and they had decent reviews. It was a small place about 8-12 tables so its rather a small place. The waitress was nice to show us the menu, it wasn't a big menu at all. It had the typical Korean items on its menu. After decided we ordered the Bulgogi entree with rice and the Jap Chae noddles while my wife ordered the spicy seafood soup. Can't comment on the soup but the Bulgogi tasted fine along with the noddles. It had a nice favor along with the preparation of the food. They had the typical Korean side dishes of Kimchi, fish cakes, and pickled cabbage. It was good service and food but I felt it was over priced for the food. 23 for the Bulgogi and 19 for the noodles was kind of pricey. The soup was average 12 dollars. They have lunch specials that is cheaper so go during lunch. I gave them 4 stars because the food was overpriced for dinner.

The service was friendly. Our waitress took her time going over the menu with us and recommended some non spicy dishes that are popular amongst customers esp. what kids like to eat. For starters, we ordered fried pork and noodle dumplings. Then, the waitress brought us all the knickknack dishes such as calamari, Kim chi, fish patty, egg casserole, spicy pickled cucumbers. Free refills if you want so just ask! For main course, we had jap chae, which is potato noodles with veggies and beef stir fried with soy sauce. We also ordered their beef bulgogi served on hot sizzling skillet. I had also order seafood tofu soup. There are different kinds of tofu soup. You can order pork, beef, seafood, vegetable, or Kim chi soup...etc. There are 5 level of spice list: plain, mild, regular, hot, danger. When placing the soup order, you'll need to tell the waitress how spicy you want the soup. Overall, the food was pricey but delicious. All 3 main course meal was served with white rice. We will definitely come back and try other dishes.

It came to a surprise when I walked into this restaurant on a Friday night. As always I had expected most restaurants to be packed on a Friday night. When I first walked in I noticed the place was empty which concerned me. Immediately I was greeted by a very sweet lady & Korean pop music displayed on a large screen tv mounted on the wall. The atmosphere overall was calm n' quiet. After experiencing Korean restaurants all around Jersey, I had already known the main entrees & was looking for good quality Korean food. We had ordered a hot stone version of vegetable bibimbop & the dish with the shredded beef on onions. Within 5-10 mins our food came out hot & tasted just as good as the other Korean restaurants like BCD Tofu House & So Gong Dong. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for quick & exceptional service as well as decent Korean food.

Unassuming strip mall restaurant that is really delicious. I went with mixed seafood tofu soup, which came out piping hot and spice level was perfect (I usually order spicy but followed review advice and went with normal). Started with the seafood pancake which was light and flavorful. The service was great - I was catching up with a friend and they didn't rush us at all but always stayed attentive. Definitely check this place out for a great Korean meal.

After getting a little disappointed by another non-Ft.Lee/PalPark/Leonia area sundubu spot in a neighboring town, I was kinda iffy trying out another nearby sundubu spot. Sundubu is my absolute favorite Korean dish in ANY season (yeah you'll see me slurping dem red broth for lunch in the middle of the hottest day of the summer, yum!) and there are only few places in Bergen County side that I would go to if I really want sundubu. But one Sunday afternoon, thanks to the blue laws, I happened to be at the Willowbrook mall and wanted to have a non-mall-food lunch. Hence, I ended up here. Mr. Tofu House is located in a small strip mall across from the Wayne NJ Transit train station. It wasn't too busy since I came around an awkward 2pm after the lunch crowd disappeared. Their banchans were so tastily fresh and the service was exceptional. Got me some beef sundubu that came with rice and man, I think I can come here all the time when I think of the crazy traffic going into PalPark and the parking situations lol. Ordered the spiciest level and it was up to my spicy-o-meter expectations.

Absolutely delicious vegan options, great service and a really convenient location with great parking. We had the vegetable pancakes and ramen which were delicious. Definitely be aware that the soups are spicy, so choose wisely! Can't wait to go back and eat more!

We were on our way back from a tournament and stopped by on the way home. It's a a few minutes off I80 W. Clean restaurant and clean bathrooms. We ordered seafood pancake. It was delicious. The seafood soup was good but the soup could have had more seafood and less tofu. The fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce was tasty and Korean ribs were good but the ribs could have been softer. The Staff was very polite. The kimchee and other condiments were complimentary. The kimchee was excellent.

Never knew this place existed. Driving past it, you might not give it any notice. It is in a small strip mall and the name "Mr. Tofu House" implies that it might be some kind of vegan establishment. It is actually a very authentic family owned Korean restaurant. I only found it because I read the reviews on Yelp. Not your typical Korean barbecue type of place, but more of the real ethnic stuff like traditional soups, Kinchee pancakes and Bi Bim Bap. Although you can definitely order a vegetarian meal, there are plenty of meat dishes and this place is NOT vegan. The atmosphere is kinda plain but the hosts are very friendly and the service was fast contrary to what some other reviewers reported. If you are looking for something different and authentic, give Mr. Tofu House a try. I'm really glad that I found this place.

Simply the Best. Clara is the sweetest host. Food is delicious and they got KPOP videos playing all day long! love it.

I go about every week for their seafood pancake & tofu soup :) The place is clean & the food comes out quick. Update: Just visited this place twice this weekend! We took the seafood pancake to go and it was still delicious! Hands down my fav place!!

Came here tonight with a group of friends on a Sunday night and had a great time. It was easy to get a seat and we did not have to wait. Our waitress was very very pleasant. I spilt a ton of water because I can't go anywhere without making a mess and the waitress was the one apologizing to me! The only down side was I was never given a new glass of water until after I had already been eating for 45 minutes. We all ordered soups and shared a plated of the pork barbecue. The BBQ pork was delicious and it came with onions that were dripping in the juice so good. I ate the kimchi tofu soup medium spiciness. It came out boiling hot and was the perfect amount of spiciness. The side of rice was the perfect stickiness too. Overall a great meal in an unassuming strip mall. I would happily come here again!
