The 12 Best Hot Pot Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Live out your hot pot pick-and-mix fantasy at Mr Wang in Aldgate, a spick and span, neon-lit malatang machine. Grab a basket, load it with freshly prepped ingredients such as meats, greens, tofu, and noodles, and pay by weight. Know that the recommended amount is 400-500g per person. Choose a soup base: we like the creamy milky beef bone broth which is an excellent flavour absorber and packs so much depth. Then, hand over your basket, let the kitchen cook your perfect malatang, and while waiting, get busy crafting the dipping sauce. No double-dipping drama and no lost noodles, just customisable hot pot goodness exactly how you like it." - angela hui

All the ingredients are super fresh! Especially the prawns and enoki mushrooms, which are usually easy to go bad, but here they were really fresh and tasty. They also offer a wide variety of choices: different kinds of meatballs, vegetables, beef and lamb rolls, thick-cut meat slices, and even squid tentacles! I also really liked how the vegetables and meats are weighed together, no need to separate them, which makes it very convenient. This time, I tried the milk and tomato soup bases, both were delicious! The tomato base felt just like eating a mini hot pot. You can dip your food in sauces from the sauce bar, which had a great selection including sesame paste and sesame oil, just like in a traditional hotpot.

Went to Mr Wang Hot Pot (王贵仁麻辣烫) after work with a friend — here’s a quick (and very subjective) review! For context, I love spicy food, but my friend can’t handle spice and prefers lighter flavors. 🔥 First of all, we were pleasantly surprised — every customer there that day got a free portion of crayfish! (Must be a limited-time promo.) It was really tasty and fresh. 🏠 The restaurant was clean and quite packed, which is always a good sign. And the playlist? Basically my personal playlist — great vibe overall. 🥘 I ordered the mild spicy dry pot, but honestly, it wasn’t spicy at all. It tasted more like sesame paste than anything spicy. If you love heat, definitely go for medium or extra spicy. Mild is way too safe. 🍜 Pro tip: Be cautious with carbs! I added noodles, and somehow they kept multiplying like magic. The more I ate, the more it felt like there was still left... 😅 🦐 I added lots of shrimp and was really impressed with the quality — super fresh and deveined. Highly recommend adding fried dough sticks (油条) too — they get chewy after being boiled, so satisfying! 🍧 The ice jelly had a refreshing coconut-jasmine flavor. Light, slightly icy, not too sweet — better as a drink than a dessert, and perfect after something oily. 🍅 My friend got the tomato soup base, which was mild and perfect for anyone who can’t take spice. She was shocked (in a good way) to find salted egg yolk rice cakes in there — something we’ve never seen at any other hot pot spot. We also shared a cold cucumber and squid tentacle salad — huge pieces, super refreshing, and I didn’t find it spicy at all. Another highlight: the cheese-stuffed fish tofu — rich but not greasy, and really satisfying. 📍Mr Wang Hot Pot 18D Mansell Street, London E1 8AA 🕛 Open daily: 12:00 – 22:00 Definitely worth a visit, especially if you want a mix of flavors and spice levels for different preferences. I’ll be back for that extra spicy next time!

Absolutely obsessed with this place! My cravings always lead me back for their incredible Mala Ban (dry style) and their super addictive Mala Soup broth – it's packed with flavor and seriously spicy, totally hits the spot! If you love heat like I do, you HAVE to try the "Extra Spicy" level – it's a proper sweat-inducing, lip-tingling experience. 🥵 But here’s something unique: they offer a Milk Soup base that I haven’t seen anywhere else in London! It’s incredibly rich, creamy, and comforting – a must-try if you want something different. The variety of ingredients is mind-blowing! Beyond the usual noodles and veggies, they have all kinds of fish balls and meatballs, super fresh fish, prawns, and mussels. They even have amazing premium options like super tender beef tendon and roast duck!

During lunch break, I went with a colleague to have spicy hotpot, and I was surprised to find they’ve got new items on the menu! This time, I went for the tomato broth again. The bamboo shoots, fish balls, udon noodles, squid, and lotus root all absorbed the flavor of the broth, making it super delicious! I also tried the juicy beef stuffed bun and wow, it was so juicy! The meat was really flavorful, and the savory juices soaked into the bun, which was amazing! For two people, you can also order a side dish. We picked the squid, and the portion was generous. The shredded cucumber was refreshing, and the combination was really good. 💰Average cost: £20+ per person. 📍Mr. Wang Hot Pot, Aldgate, 18D Mansell Street, London, E1 8AA

This was one of the best mala tang experiences I’ve had! The soup base was creamy, spicy, and packed with deep, rich flavor. All the ingredients were fresh and cooked just right—especially the noodles, sliced potatoes, and tofu, which soaked up the broth perfectly. The heat level was just enough to give a nice kick without overpowering the taste. Portion size was generous, and the presentation looked so appetizing. If you’re a fan of spicy comfort food, this place is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back for another bowl soon!

This is hands down my favourite spot to grab a comforting bowl of Malatang after work. The ingredients are fresh, with a huge variety to choose from(my personal favourite: cheese stuffed fish tofu, lobster balls, and those ridiculously bouncy squid tentacles). Everything gets cooked in a proper little clay pot. I tried the mild spicy milky broth for the first time and it was so good! I don’t even drink the soup, but the flavour soaks into everything. It’s spot on. Prices are decent, service is quick, and you always walk out warm, full, and a bit more human than when you walked in. If you work anywhere near Aldgate and need a proper comforting meal, this place is 100% worth it.

Mr Wang Hot Pot in Aldgate is hands down one of the best malatang spots in London — the creamy milk broth is rich yet refreshing, the wasabi squid is a total standout with its fresh, bouncy texture, and the DIY sauce station makes the whole experience feel just like home; definitely a must-visit if you’re craving authentic and comforting flavors.

In our three day trip we already visited this place twice, and are thinking about going back tomorrow as well. The restaurant’s main attraction is the “ma la tang” what’s basically a personalized soup. You get a little plastic basket, fill it up with everything you would like to eat, and choose the broth. Then in the kitchen they will boil everything up for you and you get it served to your table in a double walled pot. SUPER CUUUUUTE! While you’re waiting on the soup - and of course at any other time as well - they have small metal “mini-pots” that you can use to make a dipping sauce for yourself. Personally I highly recommend: 1ts sesame paste, 1Ts chili powder (IT’S NOT SPICY!), 1ts soy sauce, 1.5ts minced garlic. Mix with about 1 soup-spoonfull of your own soup. It is crazy good! We saw many tables make one soup with ingredients for everyone at the table, and then they just shared - like a hotpot that is not being continuously cooked at your table. If you like Chinese food, you have to give this place a try!
