Ms. Myrtle’s Bakery brought my VCR cake to life for my 30th Birthday ’90s Bash. It was a huge hit amongst all of my guests. It completed the look of the dessert table and tasted great. They suggested that we go with Heavenly Butter for the cake and they were definitely right. This was our second time ordering a custom cake from Ms. Myrtle’s and I’m sure it won’t be our last! Thank you again for helping make my 30th birthday celebration a Blockbuster hit!

I wanted to get a donut cake for a birthday party. I came strolling into Ms. Myrtle’s right under 3 day minimum cut off. The super amazing Kendra looked at me and let me know I’m lucky I came in. She took mercy on me and let me order the cake. Even gave me a Juneteenth discount. Fast forward a few days later, I had a beautiful donut cake. The birthday girl and guests loved it! I’m such a fan of wonderful customer service. Even a bigger fan of wonderful customer service with delicious cake to back it up!

Absolutely delicious cheesecake variations. This is exactly what comes to mind when I think of southern style sweets. Ive tried sweet potato cheesecake, banana pudding cheesecake & strawberry. I can tell you all were delicious! I cant wait to try other items!

My husband had a friend recommend Ms. Myrtle's Billionaire Pound cake. We found out they were right! It's wonderful! But the Heavenly Butter and Butter Cream is divine!

We've been going to them since we moved to Houston 10 years ago. They've watched our kids grow up. They've always come through with high quality custom cakes when we've called, whether weeks in advance or days. They came through in the clutch for my wife's birthday recently. I absolutely recommend!

Completely disappointed. I had Ms. Myrtle do my gender reveal cake. I had a friend text her the gender as I am suppose to be surprised. Ms Myrtle even confirmed that I was picking up the cake. Attached was an invoice that stated "inside color _____". My surprise is now completely ruined.

I recently had a birthday cake made for my mom’s 70th surprise birthday dinner and this bakery did NOT disappoint! My first encounter with the bakery, Kendra was personable, kind, and helpful with providing me the necessary information that I needed to place an order. She suggested a flavor for the cake, which I wasn’t familiar and offered to make a mini Bundt cake for me to try. After the first bite, I was sold. The design of the cake was over the top and gorgeous. The cake designer did his thing. It was better than the inspiration picture I provided. Please thank him again for me! Onto the dinner party, I got so many compliments about the presentation and taste, which I provided everyone with the info. Thank you for being apart of a very special occasion! This place has the best desserts and everyday treats, if you just want some cookies regular or vegan, or just a slice of good ole homemade cake. I’ve been a customer since around 2009 if not longer and I’m always completely satisfied.. I love the specialties of designer cakes and cupcakes. I love the welcoming atmosphere period.. Everything here is great especially the millionaires cake and the peach cobbler is off the charts. Also at thanksgiving stop by for the stuffing!!! I don't know if I have ever had better stuffing than that. Plus super friendly and good prices. Definitely worth the visit and we have been going there for years

My company supplied delicious cakes and cookies from this black owned business in Houston. I'm really impressed by the food but also the details the owner has taken the time to add to their business. I love nearby and will certainly be ordering from here in the future.

Had a sweet tooth I could not shake, so I stopped at my neighborhood black bake shop. I selected the sweet potato cheesecake.... Ms. Myrtle's is a small bakery that has a large selection of ready bakery goods... They also do custom orders for various baked goods... Service was fas and friendly... I have ordered custom cakes and varios on the good baked goods, and I have yet to have something I did not like... The sweet potato cheesecake did not disappoint...

Moist goodness galore! The hubs found this spot and brought home a pound cake slice and butter cake w/buttercream icing for us to try. One word: LOVE Both cake flavors are phenomenal, portions are perfect, and the moisture is on point. Not too dense, not crumbly, just spot on! Ms. Myrtle knows exactly what she's doing, and my sweet tooth approves!

Everything went well! The only thing I'd complain about is the parking. It's too close to Emancipation Avenue.

Im from Louisiana and was searching for a bakery that makes king cakes and came across this bakery. I was able to pick up the cake the same day. The cake was delicious and me and my family enjoyed it. I definitely recommend this bakery and can't wait try other items.

I just had the best sweet potato pie of my life! It lasted maybe 2 days in the house -- amongst two people. And there may have been a little jealousy on who got the last bite. Luckily, Not Jus' Donuts is just a two miles away from us. The bakery is 20 years old, but their recipes scale back from generations on end. It's female-owned, Black-owned, and family-owned. And - according to their Yelp page - their main ingredients: Love and prayer Well that love and prayer is delicious, because we can't stop thinking about that sweet potato pie. We went back today but they were sold out; we got a single serving of the banana pudding and buttered pecan pie. Friends, it takes like butter. And pecans. Very rich. According to their menu, each day features a special on a particular item, like vegan cookies on Tuesday, banana pudding on Wednesday; peach cobbler on Thursday; and donuts are only available on Saturdays. Can't wait to get in on those. Check out their website for their full menu, both catering, curbside and specialty cakes. You'll find an assortment of pies, cobblers, two-layer vegan chocolate cake, cookies, cupcakes, pound cake, mini bundt cakes, cheesecake... it's my end of year goal to try all of their pies. If I can break away from constantly craving Big Mama's "World Famous" Sweet Potato Pie. Right now during COVID-19, they are only offering curbside pickup or delivery. Order ahead and online, through the Yelp app or GrubHub. Order in advance, because as I mentioned, some items might be sold out for the day. Keep up the deliciousness!

Really tasty and moist desserts! There are a variety of options. The customer service is wonderful and the location is easily accessible.

I was visiting from Illinois in September and wanted to buy a cake for my husband's birthday. I ordered my cake on-line. The staff followed up via telephone the next day to confirm the accuracy of my order. On the day of pick-up, I was running late. Staff stayed over to wait for me to pick up my cake. The cake was beautifully decorated and taste even better. Very moist cake and icing was delicious. I am saddened to learn the owners have decided to close the business. It will be missed by the residents of Houston and customers from as far away as Bloomington, Illinois.

I have been coming to this place for over ten years but my last straw was this past weekend where I ordered a cake for my son ! This cake was so dry and stale like cornbread! I paid over 100$ for the cake was specific with my design ideas and I felt like they just provided me with a quick item! It was stale it didn't come out how I expected and when I emailed them about it they basically told me I was lying about the consistency of the cake and they could tell the cake was indeed moist from pictures I took. I bragged on this cake to all the party goers and no one was happy about that cake not even my 5 year old son . He didn't even eat his piece . I asked for it to be colorful and look at these pictures . Plus the ink on the edible image was horrible . I can't patronize them anymore I feel bamboozled :( and I definitely won't be bragging or recommending them to anyone anymore!!!

Nothing less than five stars....All deserts purchased for Christmas 2022 were absolutely wonderful. I thank you and my family would like to thank you as well. Until next time

Ooooooooo-ooo-wee! Perfecto! Kimili! (That's perfect in Swahili). Anyway this is a great spot if you're looking for a good dessert or even a special occasion. So just relocating and looking for a place we stumbled across this gem. As a baker, my standard is a little different for what constitutes good and this place checks off all of my boxes. They even have vegan options. The cakes are made with love, the service is great and it's always great to see someone designing a cake right before your eyes when you walk in. It's nice, quant, friendly and clean inside. We had the cheesecake, vanilla cake, peach cobbler and sweet potato cheesecake. All were very good. This will definitely be my go to spot for freshly made desserts.

Poor business etiquette   On this past Father's Day weekend (2022), for my father who is turning 101, my wife placed an order for a German Chocolate Cake. It was not only a big weekend because of Father's Day, but my family was looking forward to celebrating Juneteenth and this cake was going to be a part of that celebration. We have never ordered a full cake here before, but we have had the small bundt cakes that are sold in the case. WARNING: If you order a cake from here you will not be given full details about the cake. The woman that takes your order is rude and unprofessional. It seems the owner is aware of this because if you see the reviews, there are many complaints about the service here. Not only did our cake look nothing like the bundt cakes that they sell, but they also added birthday cake icing to it. We did not ask for this frosted icing, nor were we given any details about the fact that they decorate the cake differently that the smaller cakes that they sell. When I called to express my disappointment with the icing, I asked if they could please take the birthday cake icing off. The woman on the phone got agitated, stated that is how they make their cakes and did not want to anything I had to say. After a bit of back and forth, the woman decides to agree to take the icing off and tell me I can pick it up later. Shortly after hanging up the phone, my wife received  a text message stating that we had been refunded for the cake. When I found out about the refund, I called back to find out what was going on and spoke to George. I was told that the woman had changed her mind, she didn't want to fix the icing and just decided to cancel the order. I told George fine, I will just take the cake with the icing since we needed it for the celebrations, and he told ne he would check on the cake and call me back. He mentioned before ending the call that he could not guarantee that I could get the cake because they have 70+ orders and losing one order will not hurt them. Please be careful when doing business with Mrs. Myrtle's Bakery because it is clear that customers are not valued. The attitude and anger that you might receive for a correction or customer request is insane.

I have had the heavenly butter cake for years, which is always moist. I ordered the strawberry cake, and it had a weird texture. It was firm and dry. I gave a 48-hour notice; therefore, I didn't understand why the cake was like that. Maybe it was frozen. I was also told they use dried strawberries, so I was expecting to see strawberry pieces in the cake, nope. I sent an email commenting on the strawberry cake and whether the marble cake was the same because my son wants one for his birthday. Unfortunately, no response, and unfortunately, I won't be back. You want your business to be patronized but don't want to provide customer service.

This vegan, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever eaten. The cake was moist and the frosting was very smooth. I do not live in TX but I will dream about this cake and visit when I come back.

My girls and I love to visit Not Jus' Donuts. Me, because most of the cakes remind me of the cakes I grew up eating, whether they were made by family or one of the sisters at church. Where are all my church folk that know about that cake and punch in the fellowship hall after 3 o'clock services?! Carrying on... These cakes are moist, buttery, and made with love. One of our personal favorites is the billionaire cake. I will add that this cake is a little rich and heavy, so make sure you have either worked out before or plan to work out after you eat it. Sadly, on our last visit I decided to try the tea cakes and I wasn't a fan. They had too much lemon flavor and not enough nutmeg. Also, they were not soft. I was hoping they would taste similar to my grandmother's, but they weren't. However, my youngest daughter has tried some of the other cookies and she's been pleased. Overall, Not Jus' Donuts is a good bakery, even despite my displeasure with the tea cakes. We will continue to support and visit.

A Very Nice Bakery. The Aroma of Awesomeness when you exit your car. OMG!!!!! When entering, you are greeted with Hello's and Smile's. I had bought a Groupon that expired years ago, they still honored it for the price I paid for it; which was great. I bought several cakes. It was My Birthday Sooooooooooo. All of them taste AMAZING, but My Favorite was The Billionaire Cake and The Coconut Cake. Again We Loved Them All. I will return to purchase more Cakes, Pies, and Cookies.

I ordered a coconut cake for a birthday and it was delicious. Everyone at the party said it was the best they ever had. I will be getting all my cakes and desserts at Ms. Myrtle's!

Lemon meringue pie.....I had been trying to find photos of the pie before I purchased but I went ahead and went in blind and bought an entire pie without tasting or seeing a picture. The meringue was good! If you like crispy pie crust, it might be a winner for you.

I'd give them 6 stars if I could. Placed an order for 40 dozen (yes 40 dozen) colored cake balls, as Opening-Night treats for the performers and crew for our show, with pretty specific color requirements to match the colors of the set... and they were not only delicious, they were BEAUTIFUL. Definitely WILL be using them again.

This is the place to cure your sweet tooth. I got the Millionaire cake and it was super delicious. It was moist which is one of the most important factors in my cake choice. I also got a oatmeal raisin cookie. I was going to eat half but yea before I knew it that cookie was all in my belly. I tried the vegan oatmeal cookie also and it was very good. Had great flavor. Got to go back for that Millionaire cake.

Ordered a bday cake for my hubby and not only did they create the cake exactly as the picture I submitted but its taste AMAZING! The guest were in love with the cake. I'm glad you are not jus a donut place LOL

I decided to order a cake for a small function I was hosting. I ordered an 8 inch, 2 layer, round, butter cake. I requested chocolate buttercream filling with regular buttercream icing. The cost was $50. I figured the additional price was due to the ombré design I wanted. Although I was pleased with the appearance and taste of the cake, I didn't receive the chocolate filling I requested. I was disappointed that I didn't get exactly what I ordered. I tried a few other single serve items, and they were good.

The cake here is really good. I known about this place from a coworker. The place can be very tricky find due to lacking of the sign from the the street. Still pretty good homemade cake.

My sister ordered cupcakes for my nieces 9th birthday on a Saturday and her party was Sunday. The pick up time was set and they were still over 50 minutes behind. Needless to say the cupcakes were a total disaster. They were hard, dry and nowhere near fresh. No one was impressed, even the birthday girl threw it away. Not Jus Donuts are closed Sunday/ Monday so when she spoke to someone today (Tuesday) their response was, "you should have saved them, and we've had customers who have been coming back for years!" At no point did they try to empathize or resolve the issue. I am totally disgusted in the manner in which this was handled and wouldn't recommended them for your special occasion. I have personally had a similar experience when I ordered a cake a few years back, but I didn't bother to complain.

I bought almost 25 dollars worth of cakes and tea cakes Nothing was fresh at all it took then 10 minutes to ring me up .

They have offered customers a discount for Christmas and promise to make it right. We shall see and I will update my review

Rich, decadent and a real down home bakery... I have yet to try something I didn't like... Real butter cakes that not only look good but taste o so good... Not lard tasting frosting but the real deal... My all time fave is the pound cake slice with coconut cream cheese icing... I order all celebration cakes from NJDB... They also have a large selection of ready to eat items... Go have your sweet tooth blessed!

Tried the billionaire cake at a pop yo shop and was blown away by the moisture and decadent taste!!! Whewww best pound cake I ever tasted in my life! Great job!

As someone who takes their cake super serious, I am picky when it comes to eating this delicacy. The back story, I happened to come into town for business, I brought my mother along because she just lost her husband, and it was my mother's birthday. Thanks to Yelp, I saw "Not Jus' Donuts Bakery" and was pleased with the reviews. I called the bakery the day before my mothers planned "birthday party" and the sweet woman I spoke to on the phone took my order perfectly. I arrived around 24 hours later (as promised) and like a fairy tail, my mother's cake was ready. I ordered the "Heavenly Butter Cake," with butter cream frosting and the name did this cake justice! The cake was pretty, moist, and best of all delicious! If I could give Not Jus' Donuts 100 stars I would. The cake was a special addition to my mom's special day.

Ahhhh maaaa zing! We just got the cutest cake for a lingerie shower. The top layer was fondant and bottom layer, butter cream. The cake was outstanding taste and presentation wise. I highly recommend giving this place a try. I can't wait to order something for the next event!!

This is my daughter's favorite bakery. She will only purchase her desserts from Ms. Myrtle's Bakery Shoppe. They have a taste like no other bakery. We have been very pleased with their service. We are celebrating her 40th birthday and she said, "If you don't purchase my cake from Ms. Myrtle's Bakery, then I would prefer not to have a cake." Thanks for always being #1!!!!

I went in, and browsed their delictables that they had on display. I chose the Billionaire Cake, a piece of Sweet Potato Pie, and a Mini Butter Cream Bundt cake w/ Cream Cheese. (All for under $13.00) Now the ladies working in there were genuinely nice and even gave me a Delia's Tea Cookie for free, so that I could try it, to see if I liked it!! (I had inquired about it's sweetness). The Tea Cookie was just as it is supposed to be: not too sweet with a lovely texture and taste. The Bundt cake: The cake itself, while moist, wasn't very flavorful own it's own--it HAD to be eaten in conjuction with the cream cheese icing. Eaten together, it was quite tasty and satisfying! The Sweet Potato Pie: Excellent!! The Billionaire Cake was good, but I do not think that it lived up to it's incredibly profound name. Nonetheless, I am a fan and I will be back!

I went to a place once called "Sweet", but nothing was sweet...this place deserves that title because you know what? Things here are sweet. But the name works here too, because by far they are not just serving donuts. My gf and I had the butter cream cake with butter cream icing, OoO YUMMY!! Then we also had a slice of sweet potato pie. That thing was delicious too. The service is great, they are very nice about recommendations, also they have a yelp check in special!

Italian cream cake is the best! Rosharon the manager is very professional & sweet! Also the peach cobbler is delicious!

After seeing ad on my computer screen, I decided to take to a trip to my old stomping grounds and visit Not Jus' Donuts Bakery in the 3rd Ward. It was my first visit to the bakery and there were so many of the cakes that were advertised that I wanted to try. I ordered two small/personal bundt cakes-strawberry and german chocolate, a slice of the billionaire cake, as well as a slice of pecan pie. All were good, but my favorite was the german chocolate bundt cake, very moist, buttery-sweet german chocolate frosting. Very delicious! The staff was very kind and patient with me as well. Due to it being my first time, I was very indecisive as far as for what I wanted to get during my first visit at the store. While my intent was to buy everything I laid my eyes on, I simply settled on the choices I listed above. I will try some of the other flavors on my next visit :)

This place is adorable. It's located near my home so I decided to give it a try. Walked in and was greeted with smiles. Staff was friendly and loved that you could see the cake decorating being done. These are real homemade cakes.We got a sample of 5 different cakes and some cookies. All were delicious. The billionaire cake is perfection. Must check this place out.

This is a great spot to visit for a sweet tooth. The staff is incredible and the ambiance is the epitome of the South.

I visited Not Jus donuts after my mother co-worker told her about it. There is something about tea cakes which remind me of a big cookie, but they are called cakes. I've had tea cakes before in the past that were good, but Not Jus donuts tea cakes are a bit dry even when heated or ate cool. There was too much flour and lemon extract. We won't be back for any tea cakes. I did see a pina colada cake there and if you know me.. you'll know that I love pina colada. I would like to try how that tastes I'm very curious. I've never heard of a pina colada cake and was shocked to see it in the bakery. Wow, pineapple and coconuts.. Mmm... The bakery has a little cafe where you can order baked goods and sit n eat. The parking is the little strip alongside the curb and right lane. A good way to dip in and ride. I might be back for that cake.

Amazing bakery that never disappoints. They made the most beautiful cake for my daughter's birthday. Beautiful, moist and beyond delicious! The Staff was so friendly, personable and professional.

Absolutely love this place. The mini bundt cakes are very good and shareable! I've tried the lemon and strawberry; they were both delicious and moist, and the frosting was very good. The staff was very nice and the time of day that I went wasn't very busy. I will definitely be going back to try more flavors.

Please rename to "We don't have donuts". I went on a Saturday morning around 9am and there wasn't a single donut in sight. :-/ I ended up getting cake...for breakfast. With that being said the cake is very tasty but would have preferred the traditional donut instead.

I was tasked to get a cake for a friend a day before the party. I found this bakery last minute and they came through last made the cake I wanted and it was not only presentable, it's was beyond delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Great service and great cake. Thank you!!!
