Awful Aprés, snotty staff, don't bother. If this place wasn't at the base of Ajax it wouldn't last a week.
Full story: We (couple in our 30s) walked up to see if there was space for drinks after we finished skiing. It wasn't our first choice but Ajax Tavern was packed and we'd been there before so we figured it'd be fine. I asked the hostess if they had room for two for drinks and she replied that they were completely full. We were a little confused because of all the open tables but saw half the bar seats were free and that's usually open seating, so we asked if we could just sit at the bar. She said no because there was no room. Again, confusing so we asked if the bar seats were reserved. Nope, she said those are first-come first-serve and that any of the guests could sit there. But for some unexplained reason we couldn't.
Obviously it wasn't adding up so we walked through each step to make sure we weren't misunderstanding something:
- There were bar seats open
- Bar seats are first-come first-serve
- Nobody was moving over to sit at the bar
- But there's still no room for us...?
That's when she hit us with the "we're not taking walk-ins." At this point it was pretty apparent she just didn't want us to come in for some reason, maybe because we were still in ski gear (but very normal, nondescript outfits, no ratty or crazy clothes). Unclear if there's a management directive to turn people away unless they look like an influencer or if this hostess just took it upon herself to do so. Either way, we turned around and went to Ajax Tavern where they were more than welcoming despite being packed to the brim, standing room only.
My favorite part of the interaction actually came after talking to the rude hostess, when we poetically got to cancel the dinner reservation our family had made for tonight so we could support a business that values customers.
