This is one of the iconic restaurants in Bangalore, founded well over a century ago. It’s been run by multiple generations of the same family and it’s an absolutely amazing experience every time you’re here. Coming to the ambience, you will be transported back to 90s Bangalore with its decor and its seating. It is a time capsule that takes you back to the early Darshini that is so reminiscent of nostalgic Bangalore. It’s an absolute joy to see such places still thrive, full of emotion and love. The food is absolutely fantastic and delicious! Every item in the lunch menu is beautifully cooked and the flavours could not be better! Everything is unlimited so make sure to have multiple servings of any item you like! Parking is a bit hard to find but there’s a paid parking service a bit ahead of the restaurant. You can also park in Lal Bagh, visit the garden and walk to MTR. Only point of improvement would be the service, we felt a bit rushed this time, which we have never experienced before and I’ve been coming here for over 25 years. Take your time and let the patrons enjoy the experience and the food which is absolutely delicious. MTR is a whole experience, it’s not just a restaurant.

We went to MTR at 3:30pm Saturday for a late lunch. The place was packed. There were 40+ people waiting for the last meal round. Took 2 meal coupons and waited for 20 mins to get a table. The food was delicious and there was no rush as we were the last meal batch. Every item was nice. Service was a bit slow but that works for a lazy Saturday lunch. I did not see any place to park bikes or cars. We had the bike parked in a nearby bike parts store as we were doing some fitting. Overall a nice experience and worth the wait. Definitely going back there for more.

It's whopping 125 years old ! Kudos Around 21 items were served and being Saturday dessert was extra special. Long waiting queue and waiting area. It's more like a lunch house than a restaurant. Turn by turn, waiters will serve and no bar on quality. Eat as much as you can however plates can not be co shared. Deluxe segment is also there. Overall good experience.

My own 45 years of experiencing the MTR food. Always a pleasure eating in this iconic restaurant Mavalli Tiffin Room! Nostalgic. Though there are many branches across the world, nothing like enjoying eating at the headquarters! Great food, slight changes, but good feel. Rava idli, poori, masala dosa, fruit salad, coffee! One can enjoy all. Dosa was bit thick and fruit salad little thin, else a must visit place for all food lovers

one of the oldest tastiest hotel in Bengaluru. It’s one of the oldest authentic South Indian food . It’s good quality and hygienic food. We ate Rava Idli, Masala Dose, Dahi Vada and Bisibele Bath. everything 10/10 tasty. " HERE EVERY FOOD IS TASTY, EVEN WATER IS ALSO TASTIER"

Very good place. Must try Idli and Vada with Sambar, Khara Pongal, Bisi Bele Bath, Rava Idli, Masala Dosa, Kharabath, White Upma(available only on Fridays), Rava Onion Dosa, Veg Cutlet, Chandrahara, Badam Halwa, Grape Juice, Fruit Mixture, Coffee. They have maintained the same taste since many years, and service was good. Overall a must visit place.

Visited the MTR restaurant near Lalbagh and had a great experience overall. The food was delicious and lived up to the hype—especially the Bisibelebath and masala Dose.Everything was served hot and fresh, and the flavors were authentic and satisfying. The place was quite crowded, and we had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a seat. Prices are reasonable for the quality and heritage. I’d definitely recommend visiting in the morning or on a weekday to avoid long queues. A must-visit if you’re in Bangalore and want to try traditional South Indian food!

MTR is not just a restaurant, it is an institution. With over 100 years of history, it continues to hold the pole position on Bangalore’s culinary map for a reason. The moment you step in, you are greeted by the unmistakable aroma of authentic Karnataka cuisine that has remained consistent through generations. I ordered the masala dosa, which was crisp, golden, and absolutely lip smacking. The dumroot halwa was a pleasant surprise, perfectly sweetened, neither too rich nor too bland. The filter coffee was outstanding. 100 percent pure coffee, zero chicory, which is rare even in Bangalore. There is an air-conditioned seating area on the first floor, which makes the experience more comfortable. Paid parking is available just 50 metres away, which is helpful given the busy locality. Now for the flipside, service was sluggish. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty during my visit, I had to call the servers multiple times for a second helping of sambar and chutney. That was a letdown, especially from a place of this stature. Still, for the food alone, MTR remains a must-visit. Just go with a bit of patience and an empty stomach.
