MTR is not just a restaurant, it is an institution. With over 100 years of history, it continues to hold the pole position on Bangalore’s culinary map for a reason. The moment you step in, you are greeted by the unmistakable aroma of authentic Karnataka cuisine that has remained consistent through generations.
I ordered the masala dosa, which was crisp, golden, and absolutely lip smacking. The dumroot halwa was a pleasant surprise, perfectly sweetened, neither too rich nor too bland. The filter coffee was outstanding. 100 percent pure coffee, zero chicory, which is rare even in Bangalore.
There is an air-conditioned seating area on the first floor, which makes the experience more comfortable. Paid parking is available just 50 metres away, which is helpful given the busy locality.
Now for the flipside, service was sluggish. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty during my visit, I had to call the servers multiple times for a second helping of sambar and chutney. That was a letdown, especially from a place of this stature.
Still, for the food alone, MTR remains a must-visit. Just go with a bit of patience and an empty stomach.
