Best Restaurants in Kendall Square, Cambridge | Eater Boston

"This Taiwanese restaurant is tucked into a quiet part of Kendall, and is the kind of place to order plenty of dishes to enjoy family style around the table. The mapo tofu is excellent, and the menu is packed with options, so count on multiple visits to make a dent in all Mu Lan has to offer." - Erika Adams

For nearly 2.5 years, I lived just two houses away from Mulan. Despite always seeing it bustling with customers, I never got around to trying it—until a friend’s wedding finally gave me the opportunity. I got to sample a wide variety of dishes, and I’m seriously kicking myself for not going sooner. From tofu to chicken, fish to lobster, dry dishes to rich curries—everything I tried was phenomenal. The flavors were bold, perfectly balanced, and left a lasting impression. The service was just as impressive; despite our large group and a packed restaurant, the staff remained attentive and efficient. The dishes just kept coming, and I eventually had to admit defeat! While I skipped a few due to their spice levels, the ones I did try completely blew me away (metaphorically speaking). If you haven’t been there yet, don’t make the same mistake I did—go now!

Reasonable prices, tasty food. Went for a late lunch and left without the heavy stomach feeling you sometimes have after eating greasy food. We'll eat here again if we're in the area.

My family and I went here while we were visiting. This restaurant is great! The food is amazing and came out really fast. The waiter is efficient with your requests. I really enjoyed it here and I highly recommend!!

Service and atmosphere were great. Food was decent. A bit under flavored/seasoned to our taste as we have had better food (of similar order) elsewhere.

Picture 1. (11) Home style spiced chicken(disgusting). Basically, it’s chicken you left in the fridge overnight. It is tasteless) Picture 2. (154) eggplant with basil. It’s good probably because it is spicy enough. Picture 3. (12) Smoked Duck Taiwanese Style. I think this one is good. It had the smoked flavor in the duck. Picture 4. (67) Mu Lan Fish. It’s good, spicy enough and one of my favorite. Picture 5. (101) Beef with Pineapple and Bitter Melon. It is good and the beef is tender enough. Picture 6. Tea. It doesn’t look like tea. It’s just hot water with some brown color in it. Food is ok but the service is very bad and very slow. When I talked to the waitress about the food in picture 1. She pretended she didn’t hear me and walked away. Nobody came to my table to refill the tea. I had to bring my tea pot out to look for the tea refill station. Someone told me to leave the tea pot on the table and someone will refill it for me. The guy with glasses who refilled my tea has a big smile on his face and speaks nicely. But the tea tastes like hot water. He said he will add some tea leaves into it but the tea still looks just like hot water.

Really tasty food!!! We ordered the Sautéed Bean Curd Sheet with Bamboo Shoot and Black Mushroom and the sautéed spinach with fresh garlic. Both dishes were delicious, with generous helpings. They offer lots of vegetarian options too. The Taiwanese lychee beer is a must-try, so good! Definitely coming back for more. Highly recommend!

We recently had a small year-end gathering at Mulan Taiwanese Restaurant in Waltham, Massachusetts. While the exterior may not be fancy, the restaurant was already packed with customers when we arrived at noon, showing how popular it is. The dishes we ordered were quite authentic and truly satisfied our cravings for Taiwanese cuisine.

When you walk into Mu Lan it is like you are transported to Taiwan. They have some "Americanized" dishes, however they are known for their authentic dishes. My Chinese friends that also own restaurants told me that Mu Lan is the real deal. I went at lunchtime. Most tables were occupied. I was one of the only non-Asian customers. To me, that's a sign of a great restaurant. As soon as I sat, they brought me over tea, water with lemon, a ramikin of peanuts and a ramikin of pickled cabbage and carrots. A very pleasant start to the meal. My waiter, an older gentleman with glasses was very friendly and was one of the English speaking employees. Part of their menu is written in Taiwanese. Those items had pictures. You can also easily use your cell and Google translate. I should note the restaurant was extremely clean and had nice Asian decor. They give you chopsticks. There is forks/spoons available if needed. I use chopsticks at home so this wasn't an issue. I started with a cup of Hot and Sour Soup. It's a favorite dish of mine and I was curious to see how they did it. Great flavors with the normal fillers like tofu, golden needle, black fungus, egg etc. Had a good amount of heat to clear your nose. My next course was half of the House Duck. Also delicious! Although reading the reviews it sounds like people lean towards the Smoked Duck. I finished with some Cuttlefish Dumplings! These were amazing! I believe the wrapper was black from squid ink. Overall, very happy with the food and the little extras they give you. When they bring out the bill, they also bring Orange slices!!! Kind of like the pineapple back in the day! They have a large menu with a lot of interesting choices. From a cultural perspective it was really fascinating to watch some of the families eat. Each person would get a bowl of rice. Then the table would get two giant bowls One looked like a soup. The family members would pick at the big bowls and place items on their rice. After a few bites they would repeat the process. Definitely worth checking out for great fresh, authentic Taiwanese/Chinese food. Prices were very reasonable! Excited to go back and try something new!

Yelp
I don't know why this place only has 3.5 stars. It's really good! We loved the mushi pancakes (I know it as "mushu" at most Chinese restaurants - maybe this is what they call it in Taiwan?) and the eel on sticky rice. Will for sure come here again. Probably ideal to come with 3+ people because the portions are large.

Yelp
Always happy to have a meal at this authentic Asian restaurant . The food is always fresh and served quickly. We enjoyed the eggplant with garlic sauce, Taiwanese noodles and orange beef. They were busy for a Wednesday night but still no excuse for the brisk unfriendly waitress.

Yelp
Very rarely do I find myself being absolutely impressed and wanting to come back soon with friends and family to share this wonderful experience. The food was so on point and how I remember these dishes when in Taiwan. The service was very much on top of their game and were regularly checking on us and my son, making sure we were taken care of. Being as I am trying to teach my son how to use chopsticks, he ended up dropping it several times, and the staff were quickly there to provide another set for him and encouraging him as he was, "Doing my a great job!" Very kid friendly, with bowls and cups fit for children. Definitely a great place to come to if you want to experience good Taiwanese Cuisine.

Yelp
Went with my family, and we had about 10 people with us on a Sunday lunch. The staff was very accommodating with our party size, and in fact they have multiple private rooms that can seat up to 12-13 people. The food was delicious and came out extremely quickly. For the quality of food we got and for the price that it is, this was a meal I was very happy with.

Yelp
Celebrated my bday with my family here. We got a private room and the minimum and pricing for food was so reasonable! Everything is so dang tasty!! Favorites: *** WALNUT SHRIMP - their version of this is one of my favorites Eel over rice Smoked duck Whole fish with Taiwanese style sauce Hunan lamb Eggplant with basil Service was also very efficient, food came out all at once so we could fill the lazy Susan! And the server kept checking in on us.

Yelp
Great Taiwanese food in Waltham, with plenty of solid chinese dishes for everyone to enjoy! Mulan is much more authentic than most Asian restaurants in the area. We came on a weekday for lunch and the place was still pretty packed. They have a private room that can seat 20 as well, which was also in use. The crowd is mostly asian, as the authenticity of the food draws many asian people from all over. The food is delicious! The lunch specials are a great deal ($12-15 each for a plate and rice). The quantity is more than enough for a single person. The food isn't too salty and tastes very authentic. I definitely plan on coming back for dinner to try out the menu then. They also had an assortment of dumpling offerings which I hope to try next time! Parking is easy, both on the street in front and the side streets next to the restaurant. Service is quick and easy. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Very average Taiwanese food. I think if you're craving some takeout, it's a solid choice but you've probably had better. In terms of dish rank: 1. Sweet & Sour Pork 2. Fried Tofu 3. Fish Fillet in Spicy Black Bean Sauce 4. Fried Squid/Veggies I think the sweet & sour pork was by far the best dish. It had a really good sauce and tasted great with rice. Fish fillet was solid - fish was tender and not too spicy. The fried squid was a bit too oily that it became soggy. The squid and veggies didn't have much flavor either. Also their service is very slow. Even if it's very obvious that you're ready to order or get the check, they seemingly never notice.

Yelp
Good: - L11 crispy spiced pork is pretty good, deep fried crispy char siew. Very tasty.

Yelp
Solid twin shop of the Mulan in Kendal Square in Cambridge 4.5 Stars. You know a spot is good when it's ALWAYS CROWDED. I was in the area for a friend's bday on a cold and stormy late-spring night and needed something hot and probably spicy! Luckily I was with a friend who is always down to over-order food. We went deep on the menu with seafood dumplings wrapped in squid-ink wraps. They were succulent, steaming hot and beautifully flavored. We also ordered the Mulan cold chicken, which I LOVED. It's very Taiwanese and not for everyone. Dominated by 5 spice blend seasonings and oh so very tender (almost soft), it is such a unique dish that is very hard to find and even harder to do well! For mains we got the Lamb in Chili Sauce. It was giving Mapo Tofu vibes, came out in a HUGE bowl with scallions, tofu, heaping servings of diced lamb that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was spicy (in my opinion, but my Gringo friend found it a bit 'hot'). What a treat, and a must try if you are there. We gut-bust ordered the sizzling beef on the recommendation of the staff and oh were they right!! What ever they are doing to their meats, everything is just perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. This is not your corner "Chinese Restaurant". The quality is on par with much more expensive restaurants. Is it hard to get service sometimes? Yes. Does the place look basic? Yes. Is the wine, cocktail and beer selection minimal? Yes. SO WHAT!! THIS PLACE IS DELICIOUS!!! It is now on my must eat rotation if I'm ever in the Boston Area!

Yelp
I ordered takeout food from this restaurant and it was prepared in time. It's probably not the most authentic Taiwanese food but I enjoyed the flavor anyways. Price was very reasonable too

Yelp
Had a great meal here which fortunately I got to enjoy in a private room as the main dining room seemed to be very busy. This is probably due to the giant portion sizes and reasonable prices offered here for food that's cooked quite well. Not every dish was great, as they seem to do best in banquet style dishes, particularly of Taiwanese style but for the more generic options that you'd generally order from an Americanized Chinese restaurant, these were only okay. In particular there were some items that really stood out for me. The Smoked duck taiwanese style is a must try item, full of flavor from the tea leaves and super tender. The salted crispy chicken is not excessively salty but full of flavor and very crispy. The pork chop with sweet and sour sauce is nice and just a bit fatty, particularly around the bone and has a good balance to it. The braised pork shin in brown sauce is huge and had nice tender meat, but the skin is just unbelievably soft and flavorful. Mu Lan FIsh is a bit spicy, but really more fragrant and the fish fillets are nice and tender within the spicy sauce. In general, if you stick with the recommendations you'll have quite a good meal, but generic fried rice or lo mein type options are only okay. A few of the more traditional options like scallion pancakes, eggplant with basil, and shredded pork with baby bamboo were a bit underwhelming for me -- not bad, but I've had better versions in the area. Overall, great choice if you're looking for banquet style chinese food and a good choice if you're looking to enjoy Taiwanese food. Pretty much everything you try here is between good and great in terms of flavor and texture.

Yelp
We were very happy with everything we ordered. The house duck was especially tasty, maybe the most flavorful roast duck I've had in the Boston area. Service was pretty fast, the house made dumplings took the longest to come out, but it was delicious and clearly freshly made. Would also highly recommend the salt and pepper pork chops, very crispy and tender. The dining room is quite spacious, it looks like it could accomodate large groups. We would definitely go back and try more dishes.

Yelp
For the area, i enjoyed Mulan especially the lunch combinations as that's usually the best budget deal with authentic Taiwanese style food. When i stop in for a lunch or deliver i usually go for the rice, spicy crispy chicken. Has Taiwanese style spices with chili oil for a kick. (Not super spicy or anything) The pan fried noodles with beef or pork is also a go to of mine! You can have the noodles seperate if you wish in case you don't like them too soggy. But the sauce and noodz together are great! I would have taken pictures but forgot as i was starving and just ate it. Never sat down for a meal, but always got takeout or delivery, food always came hot and quick. The decor in the place looked clean at a glance but maybe I'll dine in another time.

Yelp
Delicious food and lots of options to choose from the menu. Menu prices were reasonable for the portions they serve. The interior looks nice and has a separate room.to accommodate a larger group. It is a medium size restaurant with plenty of tables and chairs. However, the service is bit lacking. They were not disrespectful per se, but never came by our table to ask if we needed anything else or giving much reaction when we thanked for their service. I'm not used to this type of service, it was abit odd. Other than that, yes go and check out this place, because their food and ambiance is great!

Chris L.

Yelp
Always had great experience, but food on June 8, 2025 lunch, something was off. The food looked the same, just the taste was off from their usual.

Yelp
Whenever I'm home, I love coming to Mulan for an authentic tasty meal! They have a large selection of traditional dishes to choose from, so you'll surely find something you like here. On this particular day, we ordered 6 dishes for takeout, and everything came out within 15min. The portions are big and will easily feed a large family (we usually do at least one dish per two people). Overall, I highly recommend Mulan to those looking for both a quick and authentic Chinese meal!

Yelp
Mulan is a great Taiwanese restaurant with two locations in Waltham and Cambridge. If you're like me and love duck, go with the Waltham location as the supplier may be different. Almost every time we come here for lunch or dinner, there has always been a table for us without waiting. Back to the duck. It's not often where a restaurant cooks a juicy, tender, AND smoky duck with all flavors congealing perfectly. The essence of the duck and its gaminess is still preserved while the smokiness (however they infused it) weaves perfectly into the meat itself as you take a bite, place down your utensils, chew, sink into your chair, chew, angle your heads toward the ceiling, chew, and wonder how this was dish was created. For us, when we dine there or order take out, this dish is an automatic reflex. The Stir Fried Bitter Melon with Salty Egg and Pork works so well together with its bitterness and saltiness layering on each other. Also, there's a dish with eggplant and sea cucumber that has loads of sea cucumber and for its price is worth the order because sea cucumber isn't cheap. The staff is friendly, very attentive and come by every so often to check in on us. If you want great Taiwanese cuisine, come check out Mulan (especially the Waltham location) and you won't be disappointed. Parking is on the street and there are usually some spots.

Yelp
Wow this place totally caught me off guard. Came here for lunch and it's a very spacious restaurant, not super crowded. My friend and I ordered rice cakes, fried rice, and pork chops. The rice cakes shook me--I thought they were gonna be bland based on how they looked and due to the lack of oil, but they were PACKED with flavor. The texture was perfect too because they were soooo chewy. The fried rice was just an extremely solid fried rice, can't really go wrong there. The pork chop... wow. The salt and pepper pork chop was actually insane. It was tender, juicy, crispy, and was so delicious eating. The peppers that came with it were pretty spicy but paired well with the umami flavor of the meat. Overall I was SO SHOCKED by Mulan. They absolutely BLEW my expectations and my mind. I don't know how they have 3.5 stars, it should definitely be higher

Yelp
We ordered Mulan take out for my mom's birthday party in the park and it was perfect! We placed double orders of several dishes which they kindly offered to put in trays for us. I think we ended up getting a lot more than just double orders as they were very generous with the portions, perhaps because our order was so large. We called right when they opened and our order was ready as promised 30 minutes later. Everyone raved about the food, and we are talking about a crowd of immigrants from Taiwan saying the food was delicious and authentic, so you know it was good. Order included: Duck, Taiwanese style Scallion pancakes Egg rolls Kung pao chicken Eggplant basil Snow pea pod stems Lo mein Bean curd strips Beef wrapped in pancakes Chicken rice cake Moo shu chicken Peking ravioli Shrimp Favorites were the duck, shrimp, egg rolls, and bean curd. All was good but my least favorites were the peking ravioli (skin wasn't thick enough in my opinion) and the chicken rice cake - I was excited for this dish but it was my least favorite of them all as it was a bit simple (just a few ingredients) and thus lacking in flavor compared to everything else. All in all very pleased with our experience!

Yelp
Tried the Milan fish and rise for dinner, absolutely loved it. The quantity was good for 2 meals. Will definitely try it again.
google avatar

Hallie L.

Yelp
A convenient place to grab food with speedy service and decent waiters. The meat dishes were tasty and the peppers added good texture but the beef stir fried noodles were too salty for my taste. The lunch specials were a particularly good deal, getting a main dish and a side of rice for only a portion of the original price. Nothing that stands out too much but is a reliable place to eat out without breaking your wallet.
google avatar

Yingjie Z.

Yelp
We had take out roast duck, yuxiang pork, suancai beef and dumplings. Roast duck and dumplings are good.
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
Three months ago, my friends and I went here for dinner. We ordered the scallion pancakes, salted crispy chicken, vegetable egg fried rice, eggplant with basil, and soft bean curd with green mustard. Portions were generous but I thought the dishes were overall bland.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Good food and service. Having lived in Hong Kong, we're picky about our Chinese food, and this was very good.
google avatar

Areeba Z.

Yelp
O H M Y G O D!!! 100/10! The food: Amazing Delivery: fast and efficient Staff: super friendly and helpful on the phone This place deserves way more hype. This Taiwanese place is authentic (my Taiwanese friend confirmed). The beef roll and the spicy fish are to die for! My absolute favourite. The only issue is that they're more family style so it's best to bring a group to try many things. But hey, those are good problems to have. They're also very affordable and the delivery option is very convenient.

Yelp
I was going to Aries but the restaurant was closed. Since I drive by Mulan and decided to give it a try. I was not very hungry since I had Frank Pepe White Clam pizza for lunch, so I chose the unique Cuttlefish Dumplings. Never had black dumpling before, so it was a surprise when they served up the dish. The inside was pork with chive and skin was made with cuttlefish ink. Great taste, but it will be even better if they have seafood stuffing inside. Did not try other traditional Taiwanese dishes. Maybe next time when is am in town with larger group to sample the other dishes.

Kelly D.

Yelp
We were in from out of town and saw this Taiwanese restaurant that had gotten great reviews. We were seated promptly in ordered 4 dishes. When the food came, we could not believe how absolutely horrible it was. There was no flavor to any of the dishes that we ordered. Absolutely no flavor. We were shocked because everything looked so delicious. Maybe we just had a bad night or a bad Chef but we will never return.
google avatar

Ells W.

Yelp
Went here for a weekend brunch with friends on the early side to get seats. Smart. Not a lot to write home about the entry, greeting experience, or atmosphere...somewhat meh, but tablecloths. We were seated in the window with maybe 10-12 others in the restaurant...it's 11:45am. ON the table roasted peanuts and pickled cabbage to snack on while you study the menu. Looking around one sees a number of what must be regulars - singles- all ages enjoying lunch and a steady stream of take away orders lining up by the reception desk. Clearly, they have a following. Our guests arrive and the notions begin rounding our minds. Finally, our waitress arrives with a pot of hot tea- which may have an upgrade which we were not apprised of, nor alcohol which they have a license for...so we stuck with water. Lost opportunity Mulan-Train your staff to sell your product!!! Our guest commented on wine and or bloodies, but the wait staff was off with our food... ordered hot and sour soup, potstickers, scallion pancakes, popcorn chicken with basil, Mulan spicy fish, Taiwanese rice noodles and house fried rice...for the 4 of us. Seriously. As we look over our water glasses, the restaurant fills and more take out orders fly out the door and ours begins to land in front of us. Hot and sour soup over the top...perfect balance of spice and flavor, pancakes little too heavy...needs less time in the oil, popcorn chicken overdone by 8 minutes, Spicy fish over the top perfect balance of spice over perfectly moist fish and the fried rice BEST we've had locally. Would have toasted the chef but, we were not offered anything to toast with except water and tea. Next time, we'll insist on champagne !

Michael F.

Yelp
Service was great! They are usually very busy at meal times, but their food is delicious! Their famous dish is the smoke duck - a must try! The hot and spicy fish is also very good!!! Many other dishes were also well made and of high quality!!!

Ed C.

Yelp
We heard so much about this restaurant that we wanted to give it a try for takeout. It has been months since having this style of food. We regretfully did so. We ordered veggie lo mien and it barely had veggies in it. It was tasteless and very greasy. We also ordered chicken fingers and they were jammed into the container causing the top ones to be 'crushed' as coating to came off. They tasted like they had been sitting in the grease. It didn't end there. The chicken wings were also very greasy and tasteless. If we were dining in, we would have sent all of it back or walked out. Yucky experience abd yucky food.

PengCheng L.

Yelp
The duck was pretty good here, I like how their Service is instant. but i came here for lunch, and there are too many people that i hardly find a quiet seat. the price i think it's make sense and cheap too.
google avatar

Jaimie F.

Yelp
Yum! Lots of authentic options. Really enjoyed the scallion pancakes and house fried rice! The pepper pork wasn't my favorite, heavy salt. Will be back!
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
Went with a party of 18 ordered all sorts of food! Couldn't really name the dishes off the top of my head, but my favorites were definitely a spicy squid dish, the duck, and also a dish that was beef wrapped in a scallion pancake roll!
google avatar

Henry L.

Yelp
Asked to try a local Taiwanese place and was suggested Mulan. We managed to find a parking spot in the small lot behind the restaurant and arrived with a party of six. The place was busy on a Sunday at noon, but we got a table immediately. We order a variety of dish, including Snow Pea leaves, dumplings, a tofu dish, and uh, a fish, umm, and a beef. And honestly a couple other plates that I really cannot remember. What I do remember though was that having Houston chinatown as a baseline, everything was absolutely delicious and tasted authentic. Staff was also nice and super efficient. People living in the area stands by this place, and I will as well.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Wow I really enjoy Mulan. Dining in there it's always cozy and comfortable. The service is decent. And I really like their menu items. Certain people have different tastes which I can understand. Because I noticed some reviews people like or dislike different things. This is a Taiwanese restaurant. With their own style. That being said, I enjoy their particular cuisine. We typically get their fried rice, different vegetable dishes, tofu dishes etc. FYI we eat a plant-based diet. So they do a great job providing options for plant-based/vegan menu items. They also deliver. The location is fairly easy to reach and on most nights you can park within a few blocks. For me the ambience and the warm, comfortable interior make dining in here more enjoyable than many other places.

Yelp
Some decent dishes in the stash tonight. First of all, I was impressed that they prepared takeout so fast. Took around 5 minutes, 5 impressive dishes! The pea pod stem leaves were decent. Too bad they cooked through a bit too long in transport, but the vegetable was hot, crisply cooked in stir-fry, and flavored well. The tofu with pork, chives (and a bit of bamboo, a stir fry) also was quite impressive. The dicing on the ingredients was first rate, and it helped the dish hold together well. Also ordered a lamb hot pot. It comes off more as a soup, but it was quite delicious and tasty. Variety of texture in the pot. The fish in spicy oil was quite decent - I hadn't remembered that this dish was a standout, but tasting the various ingredients (including generous amounts of mala seeds) I've felt that they hold together. The Westlake soup was the weakest - the beef was too tough, the flavor was not too sharp, had a soy sauce flavor and not much else, was chunky. Overall a great meal!

Yelp
Mu Lan is a great option especially with their weekday lunch specials! I've been here several times and we loved almost all of the food we've tried here. The specials also all come with rice for a very filling and affordable option. The staff here is also nicer and more attentive than some other Asian restaurants I have visited. Some of our favorite dishes have been... - Salt & Pepper Pork Chop* it's not actually spicy. so savory and tasty. - Fish Fillet with Spicy Bean Sauce - Bean Curd Sheet with Bamboo Shoot & Black Mushroom - Sauteed Shrimp with Chinese Sausage - Eggplant with Basil Sauce They also share a small parking lot in the back with Moe's nextdoor. There's plenty of street parking if you can't make it in the lot a few steps further.

Yelp
Ordered take out and when the food arrived the delivery man said " you didn't add tip on credit card , you give cash tip " I said I'm sorry I have no cash. He said yiu give tip that's how I make money , I said I'm sure your paid by the restaurant, he said no tip only. Then proceeded to tell me never to call the restaurant again. First of all had he not been so wrude and demanded a tip I may have given him one ,secondly telling me to never call again is outrageous I will never order food from here again. The icing on the cake , food was overcooked and cold.

Yelp
My coworker and i ordered some carry out. We each got the fried pork lunch special. The portion is quite large. The meat was tender yet crispy despite carrying it in a container. I bet it would be much better in the restaurant. While waiting for my order, i saw some fresh bottled prune juice. Something i would try the next time i visit for a dine in experience. I only found street parking unfortunately. The dine in area is quite nice with about two dozen tables.

Yelp
Exceptional Asian food. Always fresh and hot and great sized portions . A little more pricey than some but the food is worth the extra $$. Highly recommended

Yelp
Very authentic food - I go here all the time with my fam or family friends. I recommend the spicy cod as well as the spicy and sweet eggplant. Good vibes overall and I feel very satisfied.

Yelp
I've come here a couple times since my brother's family lives in the area when I visit Boston. I don't really remember how it was when I first went years ago, but in my most recent visit, there were no complaints from me at all. This is a fairly authentic restaurant, with the main menu more for people who like authentic dishes, and another menu for those who enjoy more ... familiar with places like Panda Express, etc. We were a large party, so we ordered a wide variety of items. * Hunan Lamb * Beef and Asparagus * Taiwanese Stir Fry Noodles * Mulan Fish * Drunken Chicken * Sweet and Sour Chicken * Vegetarian Dish, forgot the name with shredded tofu strips and I forget what veggie - was well liked by everyone - picture is attached. The hits for me were the Hunan Lamb (lamb anything I love) that had leeks and had really nice flavor. The Mulan Fish was a lot like spicy boiled fish I have here at Schezuan restaurants in San Diego, and it was no different here. Spicy and tender, no fishiness. I don't recall however if they had any of the numbing spice, but it was great regardless.. The sweet and sour chicken was well liked by all the children and the adults as well. This one was not on their standard menu since it has a more broader appeal. Service was good - kids were given smaller cups of water. Oranges were served to us at at the end and pickled vegetables were given at the beginning. Great experience.

Yelp
We've ordered takeout from this restaurant during Covid. It was very quick and easy to pick up. Some dishes definitely aren't as good as takeout as they would be dining in...my husband's crispy chicken wasn't as crispy anymore after being in a takeout container...but the food was otherwise very good. I really enjoyed the eggplant!

Yelp
Our group of seven were seated in the room where we had to actively seek out for the server to take our orders. The service wasn't great but I didn't care much. I would come back to Mulan because of their food. We ordered fish fillet with spicy sauce, smoked duck, eggplants, and three other dishes. All of them were tasty, salty (but not excessively), and gave me the confidence that I would enjoy my visit back to Mulan and try other dishes too. The room also helped us have a private conservation, which would be great for family and group gatherings. If you are looking for a place with professional service, this may not be your cup of tea. But if you are looking for a place for good chinese food, this is the right place for visit.

Yelp
Mulan is a great Taiwanese restaurant that has both dine in and take out available. They do not have any patio/outdoor seating. They have a small parking lot in the back and there is plenty of street parking available in the surrounding area. I highly recommend the House Duck as it is super moist and flavorful. I would stay away from the Sweet and Sour Chicken as it is heavily breaded. Overall it is a great place for takeout.

Yelp
More than several friends have recommended this place. We tried it for dinner one night--horrible quality. Friends then brought it to our house as extra food for a dinner and it was equally greasy and horrible quality. Then an old friend of my parents ordered and had it delivered when my parents were sick and we tasted it and pretty much threw it away. Three strikes and Mulan is OUT!!

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, good food. Looking forward to going back. Parking can be tricky , so plan to arrive before you're meeting others to find a spot.

Yelp
Solid option for Chinese food in the Waltham area! I've been here twice, once with a large group a few months ago, and with a small group recently. Great dining for both ways, large groups probably better since you can share more dishes. Most recently we got the saucy pork chops, stir fry noodle, spicy chicken (like kung pao style but more with like dry rub spice), bean curd with mushroom. Huge portions, good flavors. Really liked the pork chops especially. The one thing that could be better, the dishes that come with vegetables could come with more of the vegetable (e.g. bean curd with mushroom could have more mushroom, pork chop had some thin slices of onion and red bell pepper which were quite tasty in the sauce and I wish there were more!) But overall I'm impressed. Service as typical for a Chinese restaurant, but on the better side. Nice, big, clean, well-lit dining room which is very inviting especially as you walk/drive on Main St.

Yelp
One of my favorite taiwanese places in town. I got hunan beef and it was so delicious, stuff also polite and friendly.
