Muckross Park Hotel & Spa (Killarney, County Kerry) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Muckross Park Hotel & Spa is tucked in the northern tip of Killarney National Park, which encompasses 25,000 acres of pristine Irish wilderness. With miles of trails for walking or biking, this extravagant luxury hotel makes the perfect homebase for outdoor enthusiasts to explore Ireland’s famed countryside. But make no mistake — guests aren’t roughing it here. The hotel’s 70 rooms and suites are marked by plush furniture, ornately patterned drapery, and walls and furnishings in rich, royal colors, and they’re furnished with the full complement of high-end modern comforts. A lavish spa occupies a space that recalls 12th-century Gothic style, while three restaurants serve everything from modern fine dining to classic Irish gastropub fare." - Tablet Hotels

Went to the spa for the summer glow package... Was absolutely fabulous 😊 enjoyed every minute of it. Extremely relaxing treatments. Maria put me at ease she was very nice and friendly. Very relaxing atmosphere. Very competent masseuse. Facial was also lovely. Reception team were accommodating as I had to rush off for a flight and tweak the timings of lunch/treatments for the spa deal. Thanks so much. Will be back!

Stayed here for a couple of nights in May with family. Location is perfect just opposite Muckross House and Gardens , Killarney is a very beautiful walk away. Hotel is immaculate and staff keen to help to ensure a perfect stay. Only are in restaurant for breakfast, it had an excellent selection of cold items and cooked made to order. Spa is a little dated but still provided a place for relaxation after a busy day of sightseeing. A very enjoyable stay.

This hotel is absolute class. Check-in was easy and reception was welcoming. Our room was spacious and the balcony was exceptional. It was a beautiful spot to enjoy the quietness and beauty of the outside setting. The spa was relaxing and very enjoyable. The location was perfect as we were able to walk through the trails in Killarney National Park. Thank you for such an amazing and memorable time.

My daughter got married on Saturday last. From arrival to departure nothing was too much trouble. The day it's self was amazing, the food, service and friendliness was second to none. I stayed in an apartment for our 5 night stay, everything was fabulous. I can't thank the staff enough for making making our stay so enjoyable. A special word of thanks to Aaron in the bar, what a diamond he is, he makes you happy just looking at him, a beautiful persona about him, always happy, polite, friendly, such a great asset to the hotel ge is.

We booked a weekend at the hotel as a surprise for my parents for their birthday. From the minute I rang to make the booking to the time they checked out the service was fantastic. The staff were so friendly & accommodating. They both said they were treated like royalty throughout their stay and were very complimentary of the room and food. Huge thank you to all the staff for making it so special.

Our bathroom sinks stink! Horrible sewer smell. Would not recommend. Hotel seems old and dated. Pillows flat as pancakes. Towels thin (but, yes, warmed with nice towel warmer). Came here after staying at Dromoland Castle… wish we were back at Dromoland.

My husband and I stayed at The Muckross Park Hotel and Spa for two nights in July, and we had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff were professional, courteous, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.||||The attention to small details made the entire space feel warm and inviting!||||Ignacio greeted us upon arrival, checked us in, offered us water, had our bags brought up by Darren, and scheduled our dinners before my husband even finished parking the car.||The food was outstanding. On the night we arrived, we dined at Colgan's Pub. I had the roasted chicken supreme and my husband ordered the Irish stew. Both meals were delicious. I also tried a local Killarney red beer, which was lovely. ||||The next day, we had a light lunch at the Monk’s Lounge, and that evening we enjoyed a quiet, charming dinner at the Yew Tree. This was the best meal of our trip, the strip loin was by far the best cut of beef I’ve ever had. ||Every bite was amazing.||||The staff were genuinely happy to see us, incredibly helpful, and attentive to every detail. Our concierges, Darren and Shad, were informative and friendly. They helped us make reservations to celebrate both my birthday and our anniversary and even followed up with us after each outing to make sure everything went well. We hired a car service at their recommendation to take us to The Ring of Kerry, best part of our trip. Our driver Billy Scannell, from Derek’s Company was an excellent guide. He made our trip! Thank you Shad for the suggestion.||||At the Spa, Amanda tended to my facial & massage which were sublime. Before I left she asked me where we’d be visiting next, her recommendations for places to see and eat in Dingle & Doolin were perfect! ||Every aspect of our stay was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for more! If you get the opportunity to book here, you will love it!

Yelp
I wavered back and forth on if I should rate this hotel 4 or 5 stars. There were some small misses but overall somethings that I really liked and that I felt they got right, so for that I can give them 5 stars. I just note it was close. The Muckross Park Hotel is prime location when staying in Killarney. I loved that Muckross house was literally across the street and walkable (under 30 minutes since the house is deep into the property). But the proper gate to get into the grounds is right across though and that was perfect. The national park with the famous waterfall is also super close. If you want to get into downtown Killarney with the shops and restaurants is also an easy 10 minute taxi. So for that location is key here. I would also say staff were very friendly and hospitable. We were always welcomed coming in and out. Front desk never had long lines for a quick question. The gentlemen working the tourist desk were also friendly and helpful. The rooms were more like 4 stars in my opinion. A little outdated but we had a good view of the entrance which was pretty. The bed was a little too hard for me but some might like that. Bathrooms were nice though. Kind of a toss up on what I liked and didn't like in the rooms. We only got room service one night but the food was really good! Surprisingly we had a really good cheeseburger. There is a 12 euro charge for them to bring room service to you but that's basically the tax and tip so we didn't mind much. Heard one gal complain at the front desk which is why I note it. However, they disclosed this over the phone when you call for room service so I felt it was transparent. The biggest reason for giving this hotel 5 stars is the spa and spa area are fabulous for the most part. Maybe more so I should say the massages are amazing! I had Natascha who gave me the best message I can remember. She really focused on my feet and legs which felt so good after travels and walking. Most places skimp on this area even when I ask for more attention there but not her, she was amazing! Also the price seemed reasonable for the amenities and how great my message was. I'm telling you if you are getting a massage here definitely ask for her, so kind and wonderful at her trade. My only complaints with the spa department were how cringe the bathrobe situation was lol. Unless you are a man or women size medium or smaller you definitely won't be able to fit into the robes they offer at the spa. For me and so many others there was no way to close your robe completely. I saw a lot of flashing happen lol. Had I not been wearing undies (sorry TMI) I literally would have been majorly miffed to have to either just wing it or go back up to my room to change. So strange, I've never been to a spa that didn't offer variation of robe sizes. Okay I harped on enough about that but just wanted guests to be aware or hopefully for spa management to make those changes. Again, though the massage was 10/10 so it was all worth it.

Yelp
Beautiful hot l with excellent service. We took advantage of the free bikes and spent a lovely morning riding a few miles in the park! We then had lunch in monks lounge. Then they have a full service spa which was lovely. All around great experience with lots to do!

Yelp
This review is strictly for Monk's Lounge. We stopped in after our very long morning of hiking Torc Waterfall, walking to Muckross House, and taking a Jaunting cart back to the waterfall...we were starving, and it was just barely 11:00am, so nothing else nearby was open. We were seated right away, wherever we wanted, and it was empty (as they'd just opened). In retrospect, we really should have sat by the fireplace, as it was a cool morning, and sitting by the fire would have been incredible. Our mistake. We ordered a couple of drinks...I got the prettiest cocktail I've ever had, and I'm really sad that I can't remember what it was called. It was really good. Light and refreshing. We also got scones, as they weren't serving food besides scones yet. The scone was amazing. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm obsessed with scones...because every single one I ate was amazing...but I digress. When noon rolled around, we ordered some food: seafood chowder and a steak sandwich. The chowder was flavorful but thin. It was less like a chowder and more like a cream based soup...not thick enough to be a chowder. The steak sandwich was ok. It was a little hard to bite into for me (really large chunks of steak that didn't tear easily), but again, it was flavorful. Service was polite, but a bit aloof. All in all, the reason for only 3 stars was that it was really kind of expensive for what we got, when the quality of the food (besides the scone) was just kind of "meh." I wouldn't say "stay away", just maybe come in for cocktails, tea, and scones, and skip the other offerings.

Yelp
Hotel review: booked a Jr Suite also have friends in a Jr Suite on another floor. This hotel is suppose to be 5 star and we booked a suite. Our room is not 5 stars and is not up to my standards for a suite. Very low ceilings, bathroom has a large tub but very small shower and a very small WC. The view is out of the front of the hotel over looking the parking lot and arrival drive up. The room AC is moderate (probable reason there is a floor fan also in our suite). The bathroom needs updating and has cracks in the sink. The description of Jr Suite is nothing like what is described. We both booked on same day back in December. It's not a bad hotel but again I'm rating this as not optimal for a 5 star hotel that I booked a Jr suite. Our friends have a much much better suite that's semi-updated and large bathroom and open seating. They also have a walkout balcony. They had an updated bathroom with larger shower and a toilet without a small closet. They even had a room gift with wine and chocolates in their room. We paid the same yet our room is far substandard. Really feels awful to know you are paying the same yet getting so much less. Yes- we complained and the staff was nice but was unable to accommodate any changes. They did give us wine and chocolates and said it was some how overlooked. (Since our friends had on their room and we didn't). No rate changes just an apology that it's an old hotel and the rooms are very different. Warning/tip: If you stay here and pay a price for 5 Star please know what room you are getting! Rates should be different for not updated rooms with lesser views and amenities.

Yelp
Highly recommend staying here if you are visiting. I really enjoyed my time here. The service, amenities, and the food were all so lovely. The food was quite delicious. We decided to add the breakfast buffet for our stay. The breakfast is buffet style. Their Irish breakfast is wonderful especially with the scrabble eggs if you want to add a little twist to your full Irish breakfast. They also offer yogurt, pastries, juices, and cold cuts for their buffet. The service is so wonderful. Everyone is so friendly and wagered to help. I really enjoyed taking to the concierge they were always so helpful with activities and booking our appointments. I highly recommend going to the spa everyday that you stay! It's so relaxing and rejuvenating. I loved the spa soo much.

Yelp
The service is just beyond horrible. We had a suite and it was miserable nights. The heat came on constantly and when we wanted it cooler we kept having to get up and open windows and doors. The water in the bathroom cannot be used simultaneously. The customer service is just terrible. People were sick from the breakfast eggs. One guy lost two days of his family trip to food poisoning. There is not a trash can to be found anywhere. Not a bellhop. They are rude and they treat you like you have no business being there. They know nothing about customer service. The food is horrible. Stay somewhere else!

Yelp
We paid ~$300 for a night in one of their lower level rooms. Although it was by far our favorite stay of our trip, there were a few things that could have been better given it's 5 star status. To start with the good: service was great/friendly, the amenities were wonderful (we went to the sauna area twice, breakfast was included and was quite good, the hotel pub was decently tasty), we liked the location (walked over to the park, abbey, and manor which was convenient), parking is free, and we appreciated having a king size bed. However, the room wasn't in the best condition and there were damages on multiple pieces of furniture. Walls were thin and we could hear everyone in the halllway. The hot tubs weren't hot in the sauna. Our view was of a roof and parking lot. You had to have reservations for all meals and sauna time. We could not figure out how to get the towel warmer to work. We also struggled with the nespresso. Again, we really did enjoy our visit but I do think some improvements should be made to make it worth the high cost and 5 star rating.

Norie S.

Yelp
Beautiful area! We stayed as a family of four in the apartment's on the grounds. Clean and spacious. Ate dinner at Cologan's which was good. Also ate breakfast both mornings at the hotel. Worth the price. Food was delicious and the continental area had a lot of options. We ordered off the menu and also partook in the continental.

Yelp
Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our stay at Muckross Park Hotel and Spa. We are frequent travelers and often stay at 5 star properties. We did not feel that Muckross Park met this standard of rating. While most staff were very friendly and accommodating, hence the second star on this rating, we have several complaints about our stay: We found the decor throughout the hotel to be dated, and we found there to be a musty, stale odor in the corridors during our stay. There were faux floral arrangements throughout the hotel which we didn't feel were in keeping 5 star hospitality. When ordering food at the Monk's Lounge, the waiter verified our order with us on two separate occasions but still delivered the incorrect items to two members of our party. While the food was fine, it was not what had been ordered. We were in a rush so unable to send it back. We found the Monk's Lounge to have an overpowering odor that put us off from returning for afternoon tea. On one evening we attempted to dine at Major Colgan's. While we did not have a reservation, we observed that multiple tables were available. We asked to be seated in a quieter section as one of our party was hard of hearing. We were told that we could not be accommodated and had only the choice of a table directly in front of the loud, live music. The hostess was unwilling to make any exceptions on our behalf so we were unable to dine there. Additionally, we felt incredibly mislead by the representation of Muckross Park Apartments which are advertised on the hotel website as self catering accommodations for up to four people. We felt it was not sufficiently clear on the website that this property is rated separately from the hotel, and that the quality of these apartments does not match the hotel. The apartment that was used by our party had dirty carpets with cigarette burns, areas where the paint was peeling from the walls, cracked tile and mold in the bathroom... We do feel that the Muckross Park could and should be clearer in their communications about this property to prevent other people being so disappointment in the future.

Yelp
Beautiful historic hotel. Well appointed rooms with very comfortable beds. First class service. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I loved that the hotel is on the outskirts of town, basically on your way into the park. It is right across the street from the entrance to Muckross House and Muckross Abbey and since they provide house bicycles to guests for free, you have no excuse not to get out and tour the countryside. The rooms are comfortable and quiet and they everything you want in a hotel. One exception was they didn't have an ATM. We did not sample the spa, but from the comments made by other guests at the hotel, it's quite nice. We did have the afternoon tea which I recommend. You have two choices...traditional and sweet. We had the traditional tea at around 4pm and we didn't need to eat dinner. The finger sandwiches and sweets were tremendously good and I added a glass of Prosecco. The only kind of wonky thing was they didn't give us a choice over which tea we wanted to drink. We were essentially given black tea. Just a few hundred meters down the road, you can hire a carriage to take into the park near Muckross House and Abbey and if you so desire, there's a gent down the way who has several horse saddled up for a quick ride in the countryside. We didn't have much time or we would have taken in the beautiful and dramatic Saint Mary's Cathedral. This, however is the beauty of discovering a country for the first time. You know where you want to go when you return. This is a lovely hotel which I recommend based on its location and overall comfort.

Yelp
Luxurious, reasonably priced, great location. Likes: this resort is located very close to Killarney national Park and is a great place to set out for the ring of Kerry or in the Dingle Peninsula. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. There was even a rack to warm my bath towel on! The spa has many extravagant features that made it incredibly comfortable. We climbed the highest peak in Ireland and found it wonderful to come back to the spa at the end of the day. I was absolutely blown away by the way many food options at their free breakfast buffet. It was astounding! The staff are very friendly and we had a very comfortable experience here. It really could not have been better! Dislike: I believe that every business and human being can grow from constructive feedback. I think the only constructive feedback I have is to extend the hours that the spa is open. Most spas or hotels I've been to in the United States keep the swimming pool or spa open till 9 or 10 PM. If you do a bus tour of the ring of Kerry you won't get back until 6 PM and will probably need a little food before going to the spa which closes at 8 PM. It really doesn't leave much of a window for people to explore the surrounding beauty & be able to recuperate in the spa. I think most people come here to explore the area, not just stay in the hotel the entire time. Anyway, that is my only constructive feedback. Other than that we had an amazing experience!

Yelp
If you stay in this area, stay here! This is the most beautiful and welcoming hotel I have ever stayed in. It's extravagant without being snooty. The staff are wonderful and will cater to your every need. It is decorated so tastefully and beautifully. The room was absolutely perfect. It was large and well laid out. It had everything we could've possibly needed for our stay at our fingertips. The breakfast inside the hotel was absolutely amazing. The selection and quality of the food was better than anything we had for our entire trip. If you plan to use the spa services or pool, plan ahead. Even for the swimming pool you will need to make a reservation. We did not have a chance to do that while we were there so I am unable to give you information on those things although the pictures and descriptions looked fantastic.

Yelp
This is one of the cleanest hotels we have visited in Ireland. We came for the spa package and not only was the spa well maintained and a great bargain- it included a beautiful high tea. One of the top 3 I have ever had in my life! Would highly recommend if planning to visit this area.

Yelp
This is clearly an institution in the area, and I'm a sucker for these older hotels with long traditions. While the hotel has a history, our bathroom had been fairly recently renovated and had both a tub and a separate shower -- and for you folks of the tall persuasion, I'd say the shower head was 6'6" tall or so. The rooms were very plush, with bed canopies and thick drapes. I requested and received a feather-free room. The staff were very helpful. At their suggestion, we took a "jaunting" trip through the park - a tour by horse and carriage, about 90 minutes and about Euro 40. We found that to be most enjoyable. Breakfast at The Yew Tree was very nice. And dinner was very good -- see my separate review. A top notch experience. 5-star? Almost, but not quite -- can't really put my finger on why.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights in April 2013 and LOVED it! The staff was helpful and friendly; the valet even parked our car for us at no charge when we arrived in the middle of a rainstorm. Our room was quite spacious and the bed super comfortable. The front desk clerk was also great and gave me really helpful ideas of shops to check for a special baby shower gift, even outside Killarney. The bathroom was sparkling clean, and it was the only hotel we stayed at in Ireland where the bathroom was stocked with wash clothes without having to request them specially. :) Breakfast was BY FAR the best of our vacation - both mornings we got a tiered platter piled high with fresh baked goodies and brown bread to complement the excellent buffet spread of yogurt, fruit, cereal (yummy meusli!), and made-to-order hot items. The pancakes were most similar to Swedish pancakes or crepes, quite tasty. The hotel is just across the street from the Killarney National Park, a few miles out of town, so it is very quiet at night and also near the park for scenic jogs (though you may end up running on the road). The adjacent pub is not bad, either. A bit pricey for pub food, but the food offerings are a little more upscale/gourmet than most pubs and you don't have to leave the hotel to eat there! The dessert sampler platter was YUM.

Yelp
I'm a tourist from USA. We can with a group of more than 25. We been in Ireland for more than a week. Everything has been so perfect until we arrived here at Muckross Park Hotel. Hotel is beautiful, service is super but we came to have dinner at the Major Colgan's Restaurant and the service the worse we ever experienced here or any other part of the world. It took them one hour and a half just to give us the salad and or soup. It took another hour for the main dish to arrive. We almost walked away. We complained about the waiting but they only told us that it was coming. Will never recommend this place. Seems that they don't have a good management. We took 2.25 hours to get our food. It's sad because we wanted to have a great time but our people were very upset for the "Poor Service ".

Yelp
Booked our vacation through an agency and found ourselves at the muckross park hotel and spa for 2 out of the 3 last nights in Ireland. I thought we were at the wrong place at first it was so lovely! The staff is exceptional and so well informed they helped us book a day tour and Lenur was so helpful and described our tour to us because he had taken it recently! It was such a good choice and we had such a great time on the tour. The hotel also has a fancy restaurant and a pub that has music from 5-9. The pub is used by local and guest a like so it's nice to mix. The hotel is a short taxi ride away from City Centre and the staff can point you where to go. The rooms are nice and anything you need is right there. Rooms come with water, robes, option of a mini bar, tv, A/C and anything else you may want(I've noticed some of these aren't included at other places). I would would HIGHLY suggest a visit to the Muckross Park Hotel And Spa and will be returning here very soon!!!More

Yelp
Of the 4 places we stayed on this trip this was definitely our favorite. Teddy the concierge was super helpful and entertaining. The decor was classy and had plenty of Irish character. Molly Darcy's pub and restaurant is right next door, and Killareny National park is directly across the street!

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel with fantastic Spa, cozy Lounge, bustling pub, excellent restaurant, and lovely common areas. The room was large and quiet with a huge tub for soaking in after a long flight and a very comfy bed. Room service was prompt and they have tasty tempting cookies and juice in the lobby when you come back in from a day of sightseeing and walking through the gorgeous forest across the way. The staff were Very helpful in arranging tours and transportation and suggestions for meals in town. The Yew tree restaurant is a must visit!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! We were greeted as soon as we pulled up by the staff. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. Would recommend this hotel.

Yelp
spa open only 9 to 8, so the hot tub is off limits early and late. Room is FREEZING, in spite of setting thermostat for 24, 25, 26 C. Laundry service no better than a "wash and fold" that a student might use, but 4 Euros for a shirt returned wrinkled and poorly folded. This is an ambitious development, but hardly a first-class hotel. It is, however, quite convenient to the Killarney National Park's jaunting cars. The on-site pub is also serviceable, if fake.

Yelp
Loved this hotel, we were only here for 2 days but once my head hit the cloud of a pillow on the king bed I didn't want to go to another hotel the rest of the trip. Killarney is one of the most beautiful areas in Ireland. The hotel is situated right in Killarney National Park. The hotel staff was excellent with recommendations, helping us to our room and everyone was super friendly. The spa was complimentary to use, there is an outdoor wooden hot tub which sits in the backdrop of the gorgeous landscape of Killarney. It was awesome!! The porter arranged a evening jaunting car ride through the National Park, Muckross house and Torc waterfall. Absolutely breathtaking. Can't wait to go back, I might never leave!

Yelp
Love this hotel. It is beautiful, great location, and staff is EXCELLENT. Teddy is so sweet, I would come back here just for him and the wonderful hostess in the restaurant!
