"Tucked in Neponset near the bridge to Quincy, Mud House serves up the kind of no-frills coffee necessary for a quick morning jolt. The cafe opens at 6 a.m., so it’s perfect for all you early birds. A quick heads up to candy lovers: Along with seasonal flavors and classics like hazelnut and French vanilla, Mud House’s coffee offerings include toffee caramel, white chocolate chip, and Twix. Mud House is open for takeout only." - Nathan Tavares

This place starts with the inconvenience of only taking cash. The young blonde blue eyes lady was not pleasant. It seems like she was forced to work or she was doing me a favor. The atmosphere could be better, but because of the staff team, it made me and my friend uncomfortable.

Google
I go here on weekends with my best friend, the employees and the owner are always super nice & personable, & it’s generally a comfy little spot

Eric Dyke

Google
Nice local coffee shop for grabbing a flavored coffee and a muffin. Little bit of seating inside on a cold day. They suggested a few coffee flavors to try and it worked out well.

Jessica Jubb

Google
The best coffee & breakfast sandwiches I’ve had the last 3 years

Valerie Sheehy

Google
The coffee was delicious...once I got it. I ordered hot and everyone else seemed to be ordering iced. All their orders were filled before mine, including several people who came in well after I did. The cashier was..I was going to say ,"surly" but that may be a bit harsh. She certainly should look into another line of work. She is not at all welcoming. And the lemon cake was dry. I will not be going back there.

Google
I normally get the sausage egg and cheese on a croissant and it never disappoints. The coffee is good. I've tried a few flavors pricing is pretty fair in my opinion I love the smell of this place, smells like toasted bagels and coffee.

Google
This place used to be a good spot but has gone WAY downhill. The gossiping, giggling, not paying attention to customers, rude attitudes, it's like a high school cafeteria now. The vibe is super immature. ATM machine (which charges a $2.50 fee btw) to get cash out because the card machine is broken (has been for over a month). The food quality is so poor now as well. Maybe instead of gossiping and joking around like it's a sleepover, pay attention to what your doing? Sure I get hiring kids for the Summer, but can we get some more adults behind the counter?

Google
I really want to like this place for their convenience (right down the street) and their cold brew. But their service needs a lot of help. There’s been at least three occasions now where I’ve ordered food ahead, gone to pick up food, waited to the side while others are served, and am blatantly forgotten until I have to remind them what I’m waiting for. On one occasion, my order wasn’t even started more than 25 minutes after calling in. Today, my order was ready but the person who rang me up was too busy chatting with other customers to acknowledge me still standing there. There is no effort to check in with the customer, at least that I have experienced. This is especially frustrating when I’ve called ahead for a reason (to save time) and end up wasting time. The food is good and the place definitely has potential. The customer service needs some work.

Yelp
Fast service. Hot coffee and cutest cow on top! Croissants were flakey and tasty. CASH only one might need to note.

Yelp
No frills, low key coffee spot where locals come for their caffeine fix. Mud House features an expansive list of flavored coffee options similar to what you can find at places like Coffee Break. The iced coffee is decent. You'll get more flavoring than any bitterness from the coffee. The large size is huge. No espresso drinks though. Food offerings are pretty standard. Several varieties of bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and a handful of pastry options. Wouldn't get the bagel plain - not much taste and texture without it being toasted and spread added. I did like the soft Portuguese roll with the egg and cheese. Seating is a bit tight with only a few tables and counter spots. It has a laid back vibe and you can tell it's where locals like to hang out. $15 for a large coffee, muffin, and two breakfast sandwiches. Pretty good deal. Cash only but they have an ATM on site. If you want an affordable breakfast stop that's a step up from Dunks, Mud House is a decent option.

Cassandra T.

Yelp
Impossible to get a bad cup of coffee at this place! It's standard procedure to ask if the color is okay and they will fix it if not. The girls are an absolute delight, so sweet and engaging! This has become my regular coffee spot and the girls' energy (+ the delicious coffee) give me life after working my overnight shifts. The owner is wonderful as well. Try the toffee caramel iced coffee - you won't be disappointed!

Christopher L.

Yelp
Coffee tastes like hot garbage. I had to spit it out and throw it away. Cash only. Poor selection of food items. Worse than Dunks

Jason K.

Yelp
Read this as a 3.5 review. I only come here for coffee before heading over to work nearby so I can't comment on the breakfast items. The coffee isn't going to blow your mind and is just slightly better than Dunks but a medium here will only set you back about ~$2. They do have a litany of flavors to try (Irish Creme was discontinued recently apparently) so that is definitely a plus. This place does get pretty packed here on Sunday - just an fyi if you are doing a coffee run before work. IG: Mood4foodeatery

Yelp
Love the Mudhouse!! It's such a cozy Dorchester spot with the best sandwiches!! Tuna Sandwich is out of this world and of course you can't go wrong with a bacon egg and cheese on Portuguese muffin or croissant!! My go to drink is either peppermint patty or Raspberry Lime rickey. The staff is always so nice and knows my order as soon as I walk in. Love this place!!

Jillian S.

Yelp
BEST little coffee shop with countless options and flavors to custom make your drink. First morning , I had a blueberry bagel and a vanilla hazelnut hot coffee with cream. The beans are flavored so I didn't need flavored creamer or sugar! They definitely do not skimp you on cream cheese, which is my usual complaint with bagel shops. The coffee was so fresh, we went back the next two morning of vacation. The second morning, I got a sausage egg and cheese bagel sandwich with a watermelon lemonade. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I wish I had one of these where I lived. Support small businesses, not Starbucks!

Chelsea R.

Yelp
I adore this coffee shop! In addition to the great food and drinks, everyone is always so friendly and SO efficient. I've been able to swing through omw to work and get a coffee in MINUTES. Truly sets my tone for the day.

Jack C.

Yelp
I come here for lunch several times a month. Today I got 3 turkey clubs. They are always on point and delicious. Today I was appalled. You would think If you spend $30 on sandwiches they would at least have the ingredients it says they have. Guess not, won't be back. Just paid $30 for what could have been mistaken for poorly prepared hospital food

Andy B.

Yelp
Small little coffee shop with a wide selection of flavored coffees. Definitely a smoother milder blend that fits their name mud house:)

Leah M.

Yelp
I visited the Mud House on a Saturday afternoon. The young lady who took my order was a little rude - she didn't smile and seemed annoyed to be taking orders. Most of the other girls working seemed equally annoyed about it. Also, the place is cash only which is mildly inconvenient. This is where the 2 stars come off. On the positive side, the young man working the counter was polite and friendly, and made small talk with customers who were sitting at the counter. The prices are more than fair - some items they charge about 4.50 for would cost 9.00 in other coffee shops. The garlic bagel I got was amazing, the coffee was decent, and my husband's breakfast sandwich was delicious. I got a nutella and berries sandwich to try as well that i'm sure will be great. If the customer service was consistent throughout the staff, this place would earn 5 stars.

Sean O.

Yelp
Great place. The sandwiches are perfectly constructed with care. Prices are reasonable and the staff is excellent.

Aaron I.

Yelp
Great breakfast and lunch at a reasonable price which is rare in Boston. Great place to stop while working since they are usually quick with orders. Small section to sit down and eat but mostly a takeout place

A M.

Yelp
I'm a longtime customer, and no longer will be. Boston has had an indoor mask mandate since the end of August. I've gone in a few times with missed mask use. And attributed it to people forgetting and getting back into following the law. Past 3 weeks I've gone and can see that nobody is masked and it's crowded inside. Not worth the risk. I don't think it's too much to ask.

Erin G.

Yelp
The cashier is extremely rude and short. She never gets the order correct even after repeating myself then she gives attitude when she's is wrong.

Felicia M.

Yelp
Honestly, any time I go here the food and coffee isn't that great. Very overrated. The last time I was here, I ordered one thing, and the girl who got it for me was trying to find a pen for me to sign the receipt. She finally said "The pen? I don't know," and continued with another customer's order. So I had to grab a highlighter from their cup and sign it. That was very unprofessional, in my opinion.

Sarah G.

Yelp
I really want to like this place. Their coffee is always too watered down, and I just can't get behind a business where all of the workers have their masks pulled down around their chins. I also watched as she made my sandwich and she wiped her nose then continued to make my sandwich without washing her hands or putting on gloves. Needless to say, there are other small businesses in the area doing better right now to keep everybody safe. Wearing your masks properly and washing your hands before handling food is the least that can be done during these hard times!

Mariah N.

Yelp
I'm staying in Boston for the weekend and my favorite places to explore are the small hole in the wall restaurants. This is the best one yet! I am a breakfast food and bagel fanatic and they have the best bagels I've ever had! The iced coffee is amazing too and their prices are even better! I'm so glad I stopped in this morning, will definitely be going back!

Cherie C.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop. I walked in early in the morning, bleary from a 4:30 AM wake-up and airport run (the things we do for our significant other!). Despite the fact that it was 6AM, the staff were bright-eyed and cheery. Some chatted up a local who sat at the tiny counter with a mug of coffee. The others tended to those stopping in on the way to work. The coffee was fine. It's not remarkable, but it serves its purpose and is served with a smile. Not sure if the baked goods are made on site, but they are definitely delivered fresh. My scone was good. Looks like they are really trying to establish a friendly, quality coffee shop. They pay attention to little things, like giving you a red-lip-shaped sticker over the hole in your lid when you order a coffee to go. It's a fun little thing that shows they care.

Claudia A.

Yelp
Mud House is an awesome spot for a quick bit to eat. The Portuguese rolls are always fresh and delicious. Really great selection of coffee and bagels. The place is clean and their lunch options have expanded.

Lauren A.

Yelp
I love the Mud House. You can tell that the employees really care about service because they're very attentive and really talk up their food. I ordered a small coffee and an English muffin with ham, egg, and cheese, and it was delicious, with the cheddar melting off the bread and the egg just right. It all came to just over $5. The interior is really cute and bright, with a lollipop tree in the corner for kids and a booth by the front window so you can people-watch. I'm so glad I found out about this place, and I'll be back as much as possible.

Kira C.

Yelp
I want to love this place so I keep going back to give it another chance. The coffee is good and that I can't complain about. However, when it comes to my food it's almost never right- cheese when I say no cheese, no avocado when I ask for avocado. When it is made correctly it is just ok. 3 stars because the girls working are always very friendly and the coffee is good.

Milly L.

Yelp
So good. Breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee is always delicious i usually get the bacon egg and cheese on a bagel with chipotle mayo and it never disappoints. Service is quick and friendly and atmosphere is cute but it's a small space. Only thing I haven't enjoyed are the muffins- too salty for my taste.

Salete M.

Yelp
Great service great variety of ice coffee first time there definitely going back I would recommend Mud house! Unique coffee very cozy relaxing atmosphere

Liz A.

Yelp
Their coffee is amazing! The sandwiches weren't too great (had a toothpaste taste towards the end of it). Service wasn't too bad, the girls were nice and quick enough. Definitely will come back for the coffee though!

Jackie W.

Yelp
I live close by so I go to the mud house almost every day before work, and I love the girls working there. It's such a nice, homey places for locals. Perfect before work because it's super quick, in and out in just a few minutes. Can get a bit of a line on the weekends.

Amanda G.

Yelp
Love the Mud House ! Coffee is always fresh and made correctly and everyone is so pleasant !

Ray M.

Yelp
I come here on weekends to get coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Great little local place, good coffee and good food. Can be a bit slow, as others have said, but I don't mind waiting because everything's made when you order it (i.e. the eggs don't sit in a warming tray). Definitely a great place to check out if you want something with a small business feel. Always a bunch of locals and young families in there. A real neighborhood spot.

Amy R.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! The coffee is awesome, i'm a fan of the toffee caramel. They have great breakfast sandwiches and their bagels are on point! small place so i usually take it to go. Would never go to dunkin donuts if i'm anywhere near the mud house!

Q K.

Yelp
Haaaaaaaate this place !! So unorganized.... the little girls they have working in there need serious customer service training .... never smiling .... never welcoming... they literally will just leave the phone off the hook.... they will say it was "busy" I purposely called on day and stayed on hold for like 30 mins walked in with my phone still on hold and one person was in line.... I was furious ... spoke to the manager ... she said a few I'm sorrys but her demeanor said she couldn't give af!... tried again the next day same thing... haven't been back since ! Stay away from this place If you don't want your morning ruined

Rosanne F.

Yelp
another really good local coffee spot with a really nice atmosphere. the proprietors are really friendly and pleasant. this is an old-fashioned storefront with lots of glass and a great original antique tin ceiling. the location is near the Neponset Circle and access to the park and greenway along the Neponset River. yummy delicious muffins and good strong coffee.

Kate B.

Yelp
Ive given this place MANY chances as its the only place in the area for coffee really besides Dunkies. The service is HORRIBLE! Everytime I go there my order is wrong and its simply just a coffee with 1 cream and 1 sugar. When i get it, it looks like a cup of milk. The staff are rude and give dirty looks. Ive worked in a coffee shop before and I might suggest training your staff to make the appropriate drinks. If not, provide a station for the customer to make their own coffee if your staff cant make it right.

Sarah N.

Yelp
Nice assortment of coffees and bagels. Staff is friendly and the cafe is cute and cosy.

Taylor C.

Yelp
Mudhouse is lovely. Breakfast sandwich is always amazing. Eggs are cooked to order. Veggie cream cheese is so delicious! Toasted almond ice coffee is my favorite. Ladies are so friendly and always welcome you w a warm smile. Lines can get long, especially on Saturdays. Only negative is they close too early (2pm) and are closed on Sundays. Come on!! We need good coffee on Sundays too!!

Joanie C.

Yelp
I have to say I use to like this place. Quality of food hasn't changed; still food. The staff is the problem. I don't know if it's because of my race but on several occasions the young ladies who took my order have been nothing but rude. And I'm comparing this to the interactions I've witnessed between other customers. Management- take the time to have them trained in some customer service skills. But unfortunately I'm was turned off by my most recent visit that I will not be returning

Darryl H.

Yelp
Nice little place. Simple with a ton of coffee selections available. Respectable breakfast and lunch offerings. Limited table space, bug fun to people watch if you get a spot by the window. Cash Only.

John H.

Yelp
A great example of a great coffee shop The staff is very friendly especially a young man named Dominic! It has all around great food and coffee! Just getting a greeting from him or someone else is just making a business better! Enjoyed very much !

Dylan P.

Yelp
Pretty good bagels but their iced coffee is shite. Maybe I'm too used to Starbucks but this coffee Is super weak. I'd say go to Gunther's Tootie but I think this place has better eggs

Erin M.

Yelp
The Mud House is super small (only 6 tables) and the line was out the door when we walked up but it went by really quickly and the service was wonderful. In fact, I think the woman that helped Josh and I was the owner and she was great - she helped us choose which coffee we'd like (there was more than a dozen to choose from - and they weren't syrups!) and she even chatted with us briefly. I noticed a lot of regulars as the Batista's used their names and knew their orders before they got up to the counter to pay. Best part? The breakfast sandwiches we got were delicious and the coffee was possibly the best I have had in a longggg time. I got an Iced Butternut Caramel coffee with Soy and 2 sugars and it was literally perfect. I guarantee if you go here you will definitely go back and quickly because the coffee is so good (and the service rocks too). www.creativesoulinmotion.com

Alexis B.

Yelp
I've been to this place three times mainly because it's convenient and across the street from my job. I love their yogurts and breakfast sandwiches. While the food is good I definitely wouldn't come here if it weren't so convenient. The ladies working there are very nice and know a lot of the customers by name. They are definitely a little slow as some yelpers already mentioned... Worth a try though

Candice M.

Yelp
This was my first time here. They are way too slow. I got a simple sandwich and 20 mins later she says to me you should have said something :/ ummmmmmm you took my money aren't you supposed to know who ordered. There needs to be more people.

Pop S.

Yelp
Like a lot of Boston it is an empty box, looks good, sounds good, is not really good. The coffee is really weak, so it is not really a coffee shop, it just looks like one. Maybe have a cup of tea...

Michelle L.

Yelp
Congrats to the Mud House for being #1 on Boston's A List for Best Coffee Shop! Friendly staff, welcoming decor, and delicious coffee makes this spot better than best! Keep up the great work!

Evan F.

Yelp
I get my coffee here every chance I get, simply put very best coffee you can get anywhere and the staff is always genuinely friendly

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Did not enjoy my experience here at all.. The employees were extremely unfriendly. While the other customers got warm greetings, I got blank stares and even looks of judgment. I felt completely unwelcomed and out of place. The service took FOREVER and I was ignored multiple times. Cash only was also inconvenient but can't blame the service for that... on top of that, the drinks were frankly horrible.. the berry smoothie I got was all ice and some frozen fruit thrown into it.. it was impossible to drink using the straw and so flavorless- a complete waste of close to $5. The coffee was very watery and flavorless too. Another waste of $4.. dont recommend this place and will never go back

Alexa D.

Yelp
This place is super cute for a local breakfast/coffee house. Last time I went the bagels were a little stale but the coffee is right on. I am always a little hesitant having others make my coffee since I don't like too much sugar or cream but they always make it delicious!! I come here every time I am in the area

Jimmy C.

Yelp
coffee is overpriced for basically being water. sandwiches are just okay. they only accept cash which is simply out-of-touch and self-serving. there's a dunkin down the street you can go to while they get it together.

Jesse R.

Yelp
cute place but not the best first visit. They are CASH ONLY so unless you've got some on hand your SOL. In addition to this its not a place to stay long- more of a grab and go kinda place with limited seating...their selection of drinks was flavored coffee and a handful of teas-- no special drinks (latés, espresso..etc.) looked like nice bagels and sandwiches but we didn't get to taste due to the lack of green money.

Gwen P.

Yelp
I went to the mud house this morning around 6:20am because I had a craving for a grilled cheese with bacon. So I called around 6:05 to put in my order and it was ready when I got there. I have had a grilled cheese with bacon from there on about 3 other occasions and it was really good. I get to work open up my meal and there is NO bacon! I called the Mud House to let them know they messed up my order and they were not sympathetic AT ALL! I mean they could have at least apologized for messing up my order, I was not seeking a free meal or anything out of it, a simple apology would have done. Here is how the conversation went Me: Hi I just picked up an order for a grilled cheese with bacon from there and there was no bacon on it, I was just wondering if you all charge the same price for a grilled cheese and a grilled cheese with bacon... girl that answered the phone: No. it's 50 cents cheaper (longggg awkward pause)....me: umm...ok! Needless to say I feel that the young girls working there that have very poor customer service skills. For $5.35 for a grilled cheese with bacon I would hope that they could get my meal right considering its VERY simple to make. Food-5 stars Service- 1/4 a star

Rick R.

Yelp
I've never been disappointed with my purchases, great prices too. Katherine makes a great coffee and smiles her way through it!
