Mud - Review - Tooting - London - The Infatuation

"Our favourite time to visit Mud is 11am on a Friday, for a long, lazy day-off brunch when we’ve got nowhere to be. Portions are generous, dishes are bursting with colour—from pea shoot garnishes, pomegranate seed sprinkles, or golden drizzles of honey—and it’s got the same chaotic, fun energy as being around the kitchen table with your family. That does mean service at this Tooting cafe can be slow, but it’s all part of the laid-back charm. On large, well-loved wooden tables, big breakfast plates—like the must-order Kejriwal chilli cheese toast with suya-spiced bacon, or stacks of fluffy gianduja pancakes—are plonked down between friends. We’ve had the odd dry muffin here, but on the whole this cheerful spot can be relied on for good food and a good time. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Mud photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Mud photo credit: Mud Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna

Really nice brunch spot in Tooting. The food is really tasty and portions are great. The staff is nice and good atmosphere. They also have a patio at the back with tables to sit outdoors. Coffee is also great!

Food was nice but the service is shocking. Took 40 minutes for pancakes and the cafe was only half full. If they are going to compete with Juliette's across the road they need to sort it out. A few years ago there would be a queue for Mud, now the queue is for Juliettes. When I was ready to order the waitress told me we would have to wait for a table that sat down before us to order. Make it make sense, if they aren't ready to order why am I waiting for them.... make it make sense! Also saw other diners waiting just as long for their food, and someone else gave up waiting for waitress to come to them. Either have more staff or have fewer tables. Better to do less and do it well, than over stretch and risk negative reviews like this one.

Food is decent but the service really lets this place down. It’s not the fault of the staff who are working super hard - they clearly need more than one server and probably more kitchen staff too. Food and drinks take ages to arrive, you have to ask for tap water cutlery etc. The fact the server was quite visibly stressed made the atmosphere less relaxing. Quite poor menu availability (they were all out of orange juice) and while the food is fairly tasty they cut corners, for example the sourdough served wasn’t from a fresh loaf - it was the pretty bland Jason’s prepackaged sourdough you can get in the supermarket. Given it’s not super cheap I won’t be coming back. Used to be much better!

Overall we had a nice brunch, but wasn’t the best given the price. The waitresses were lovely and the coffee was delicious and quick, but food was slow and took about 40 minutes to arrive. Prices were high for the food too - £16 for mushrooms on toast with eggs and a sausage. The wild mushrooms were good, but the sausage and overall plate was very oily.

The staff here are super friendly and helpful! We have been wanting to try this place for a while and it was lovely! They offer plant options for drinks. We got a lovely hot chocolate and a latte. The American pancake was delicious with lots of fruits and nuts! We will be visiting again soon!

Used to be good, now gone massively down hill. Watched 50% of the queue walk out because they weren't spoken to or told the wait time. We waited but service was then terrible and food was oily, badly presented and tiny portions - completely different to what's displayed on their instagram and very expensive. Hopefully can turn things around but right now a no go for us.

Popped in for a quick half an hour while awaiting a canine friend and was delighted with my Oatly decaf mocha. Hopefully this is evident by the effort taken to write a review just. For. A. Coffee. BUT so many baristas are unaware of how to foam Oatly milk so it's a rare pleasure to get one made so perfectly. Thank you James! Also, can we just appreciate this man's inability to slice brownies at a normal-person-sized portion😂😂
