My friends have always raved so much about how amazing Mudgie's is and that if I was in the metro Detroit area, it would be an absolute staple to go! While I had a little down time to kill before a wedding shower, I decided to stop by. Parking was very easy, which was surprising for the time of day (like 11:30am on Saturday), and we were promptly sat when we walked in. I honestly thought we'd have a longer wait but was pleasantly surprised given their seating space is fairly small (think like 40-50 max).
There was a QR code on the table for us to order (and be delivered to us through the Toast app) and we decided to split the Roasted Red Pepper and Gouda soup and the Madill Sandwich, and of course, the infamous pickles! The soup was probably my favorite part of the meal. It was flavorful, warm (but not too hot), and filled with croutons and cheese. I would have probably ordered just that and dipped some bread with it and been happy as can be. Our sandwich order, the Madill, was recommended by our server as one of the more popular items and honestly? It was a little bit of a let down. The sandwich size was great to split for a soup/sandwich combo but the turkey was a little dry and lacked flavor, the bread was good but easily forgettable and I found myself using more of the garlic mayo to boost the flavor of the sandwich. The pickle was quite good though but not your typical dill pickle and super vinegar-y. I really appreciated this and it felt very freshly made!
If I could give this spot 3.5/5 stars, I definitely would but given they're known for their sandwiches, I definitely would have to rate it a 3. While I would come back again to try something else, I'm really curious what sandwich would make me say this is a 5 star, must visit in Detroit!
