Mudrá Review - Salamanca - Madrid - The Infatuation

"Reserve a table at Mudrá for plant-based food made from ingredients like mushrooms, nuts, vegetables, grains, roots, and fruits. Because it’s one of the buzzier, newer spots on the list, Mudrá is worth a visit even if you’re not a vegan, if only to bask in the pinkish lighting or sip a fruity cocktail at the marble bar. Order the mushroom ceviche, which has tons of flavor thanks to the mint, lime, avocado, and mango leche de tigre, and finish off your meal with the dulce de leche cheesecake that’s made from cashew cheese." - Lori Zaino

Unfortunately, the entire experience felt strange and underwhelming. The restaurant is located on the second floor, above a furniture store, which seemed a bit odd to me. The interior is upscale (as are the prices), but many details were off. For example, there were plastic chairs, no printed menu, and disposable chopsticks. I don't mind these aspects individually, but they felt out of place given the prices and the restaurant's ambiance. The waiter spoke only Spanish, which led to a misunderstanding. I ordered sushi and a dessert, and he asked whether he should bring them together or one after the other. I replied one after the other. He served the dessert first, and only after I finished it did he bring the sushi. My Spanish is quite rudimentary, so I likely misunderstood him. But bringing the dessert first? That's unusual. The food was mediocre. The sushi sat on the counter until I finished the dessert, and when I finally got to it, it was soggy and unappetizing. The tempura sushi was the worst – soft with browned avocado on top. I wouldn’t have eaten either type of sushi again; I would if they were $8 supermarket sushi, but for the price and the "upscale" vibe of the restaurant, they were more than disappointing. The restaurant itself seemed a bit odd - we arrived at 6 pm and left at 7 pm, and both levels were nearly empty. There was only one other couple on our level and a cleaning person washing the couches. The lower level was occupied by staff sitting at tables and chatting. Again, it felt strange and didn't match the atmosphere you'd expect at an upscale restaurant. The waiter was rather withdrawn and, most of the time, was nowhere to be seen. When it was time to pay, the person asked if we wanted to add a tip. I said yes, 15%. He asked me to calculate it myself. That was super weird; I've never encountered anything like that. I didn't mind, but it was another odd detail. In summary, the atmosphere was confusing, the food was, at best, mediocre, and the service was unaccommodating.

Unfortunately, I was left a little disappointed by the food here. I went on my own and tried different kinds of sushi recommended by the server, and I ordered the gnocchi plate as well as flan. Something about the gnocchi plate was really weird to me. There's a flavor that's very off putting and almost smells/tastes like what baby poop smells like? I know, that's super odd for me to say, but I don't know if maybe I came across something that my tongue doesn't process well (now I'm believing that there's people out there that really taste soap when they eat cilantro). Other people seem to like it so it might just be a me thing. The sushi was okay, but it was falling apart. Since I had sushi at Let it V, another vegan spot that specializes in sushi, I had a higher standard ordering it here and it was a bit of a let down. As for the flan, if you like a lot of coconut flavor you'll like it, but I just think coconut is very over powering in it. Lastly, the atmosphere felt very gloomy and dark and when I went, which was on a day of the semi final football game, the restaurant was completely empty. I was pretty much the only person in there so I don't know how popular this place really is when other places were packed.

I had a nice full experience. The place is beautifull, chill and warm. My mom was feeling bad and said me ‘choose a chill place’ and was perfect for her. We got some sharings, sushi, no alcohol drinks and ‘flan’ for dessert. Everything was good, specially desserts, and the attention was amazing. (Also good timing). Thanks! Notes: I’m not very picky when it comes to giving feedback.

Overall quite good. Nice presentation. Salad was a bit underwhelming.

Mushroom tomato risotto was very good. Quinoa salad was nice. Uramaki crispy was delicious. Ceviche was good but extremely sour. Passion fruit juice was very nice. Good employees. Beautiful restaurant. High prices compared to other restaurants.

although a tad more expensive in comparison to most restaurants in the city, mudrá offers an experience of a meal: the food is impeccable but the staff is also extremely nice and helpful, the drinks are out of this world and the place has a character and a view. it’s located inside of a building which entry doesn’t seem rather “restaurant-like” so don’t let that fool you on not going. ask for recommendations and be prepared to be amazed. also, tip well - the place is greatly deserving of an amazing tip

I was very excited to visit this place and it really followed up to its reputation. The food was amazing 😍 As a vegetarian I visit a lot of vegan, vegetarian places and really loved the menu choices of Mudra. We got a small welcoming snack, which was bread sticks with beetroot hummus. 😋 For the starter we had Anticucho de Hongos, which was very good. The combinations of flavors is amazing. 🌱 For the main dish I had Maki Tempura 🍣 which was very very delicious and my partner took Burger de Hongos 🍔, also very very good. Not basic super overused beyond meat. The patty was very soft and gentle. 5 out of 5. 👎 Minor issues personally for me are: This place is not pet-friendly and it made me very disappointed, since I expect from every vegan place to be pet-friendly. ❌🦮 We have a tiny dog and it was very sad to go home and then leave him to come back. It’s quite expensive. They charge table fee which is 800ARS per person. For me it’s possible to make it slightly cheaper. But quality is good, cannot complain.

We tried and really like the brunch offer, which consists of 5 steps: a fritata, a saitan quesadilla, an avocado toast, a fruit chocolate pancake and a fruit yogurt toast. All portions were delicious, all came with coffee and water options. The place looks really clean, the service is quite friendly. Paid 6.200 pesos for two and thought it was reasonable given the variety and the inflation :-)
