Where to Buy Chocolates for Valentine’s Day in Philly | Eater Philly

"On a busy day, Mueller Chocolate Company inside Reading Terminal Market can serve up to 800 customers. Many stop to get boxes of chocolate caramels sprinkled with sea salt or chocolate-covered pretzels and fruit — the brave try the chocolate-covered onion or opt for a body part, like the brain-shaped chocolate." - Sarah Maiellano

In the many years i drove past this quaint little mom & pop style candy shop in the cute little center of cheltenham- Rockledge( seconds from Cheltenham n Abington. minutes from northeast Philly) - I never knew it exsisted until a friend recently brought me. Let me say- I can now understand how they have been in business in several decades. Their homemade chocolate is one of the best I have ever had in several decades! I was trying to stay away from candy BUT just a small bag of both dark & white chocolate nonperiels.( they have both fatter ones with the little beads AND for those like me who love them yet they get stuck in my teeth- they have the thinnest lil mini disks that melt in your mouth) now im craving them daily! I dont mind paying a little more for both homemade items and small shops because i feel its SO important to keep these stores in business at a time where so many order from their computer. ( im not sure if they have a website to ship some of this homemade love to your loved ones in other areas. Yet, i think its a great idea for anyone looking for a great gift to hand someone or send someone. i would love to try some of their other selections in the future but so far ive gone back twice for those nonpariels! i love chocholate covered pretzels but again with my teeth I now have issues if they are not as soft - im guessing they will be as i have heard friends tell me they love n get them there, once i mentioned i discovered this place! I WILL BE GOING BACK more regularly now that i know where it is & also thinking of them for gifts when i visit people at home, hospitals or even holidays! In my opinion even better, fresher & softer than asher chocolates sold prepackaged often at hallmark stores & sold seperatly in some food stores. Love to hear what you think on that! So, jf you were looking up to see if u should try this candy shop- i give you a big fat YES from my 💗! PS- i noticed someone 2 months ago wrote horrible dtaff workers. i eant to give my 3x experience- i had such lovely saleswomen each different.yet. each eas very kind n helpful. maybe that person went on a day the sales person was having a bad day😇

The best, most creamiest chocolate on the planet. Friendly service and reasonable prices. A must go and shop to you drop place.

Mueller Chocolate has some of the best chocolate in the Philadelphia area. The chocolate covered pretzels and buttercreams are delicious. They also sell other confectioneries. This location is smaller than the other, therefore not offering everything. The prices are higher than average but honestly worth it. Service can be slow. Parking is limited.

Miserable staff members working. They couldn’t be bothered and no one was even in the store. The chocolate cost too much to be receiving an attitude when shopping.

It's a really nice candy store. They've got all kinds of fine chocolate. And their staff are very friendly. 👍👍

Got chocolates for Valentines day, my boss recommended them. Was skeptical when I seen price online (which isn't really too bad). So I wanted certain truffles, all dark, and they put together a box just the way I wanted and let me tell you... THIS IS QUALITY! I can safely say, some of the best chocolate hands down! Don't settle for some company that mass produces chocolates, these are worth every penny for your special someone (even if that someone is yourself)!

Chocolate is good but wayyy overpriced. I would go a lot more often if they offered deals or sales or discounts thru advertising in some way.

The chocolate is good and I go here often. But was in there during the holidays to buy a custom box of chocolates for a gift. The person who waited on me was visibly sick and was obviously annoyed with my order. All of the chocolates were tossed into a small box and I was kind of embarrassed to give it as a gift. This was not the first time the customer service was lacking by the same worker. Considering not shopping there in the future.

Yelp
This review is specifically about an order placed through their website and the corresponding (lack of) customer service. In December, I wanted to give some of my coworkers a sweet gift while supporting a local business. Mueller's has a location a few blocks away from our office in Philadelphia so it seemed like a great match. (This is posted under the Rockledge location since that is where their customer service number rings). After I clicked the 'buy' button on the website, I received a weird error message and immediately sent an email off to the customer service contact since I didn't get a confirmation email and it wasn't clear if my order went through. Long story short - my card was charged, but the order was never fulfilled. I called their customer service number twice in four weeks and someone dutifully took down my name, phone # and order but never called back. Similar lack of response to inquiries sent to their customer service email (no response to 2 emails after several weeks). The "contact us" link on their website has had an error message on it for weeks so that doesn't work either. All told I've spent several hours dealing with this and my coworkers never got their chocolate that I paid for.

Yelp
It's pricey, but well worth it. A Philly tradition, it's a must stop every time I'm back. The workers are very nice. They make amazing varieties of chocolate pretzels. These make fabulous gifts!

Yelp
Yay for a yummy chocolate shop in the neighborhood! They make all the chocolate here for the Reading terminal location (which you might have seen on Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods when he ate their chocolate covered onion). It is a bit pricy, but now I can get my chocolate covered macadamia nuts local instead of ordered from Hawaii! Peanut butter cups are great (won't go back to Reese's after this one) and my mom enjoys the chocolate covered Oreos. They also have chocolate marshmallows, Philly love chocolates, chocolate covered potato trips, truffles, dark chocolate with sea salt etc And they serve ice cream and extend their hours in the summer to be open late. They serve Barrett's ice cream and have milkshakes, sundaes, root beer floats etc.

Yelp
My family and I love having Mueller's in the neighborhood! The employees are always so kind, friendly, and helpful! The chocolate is also delicious and there are so many varieties/items to choose from! I was especially pleased that they have caramel apples for the Fall season!

Yelp
I went there today for candy and Carmel apples. I brought two one with Carmel and nuts and one candy apple . They were 5 dollars a piece and a very nice size not just a small regular apple . The lady at the counter was very nice and the store is very cute on the inside they had Halloween decor up. They also had assorted boxes of chocolate and fudge and pretzels as well as chocolate covered marshmallows. Definitely prefect for people with a sweet tooth and chocolate lovers .
