Today, I arrived at Mueller's Bakery at 6:10 AM, which might seem crazy, but they open at 6:30, and I wanted to be the first person in the door! When you walk in on a Saturday morning at the start of the summer season, you know immediately from the aromas and the beautifully filled cases and shelves that everything is freshly baked. I selected their seasonal blueberry lemon cake for my beach house renters, and for myself, I picked out a big, beautiful cinnamon walnut (or pecan- I'm not sure) danish. I drove over to Dunkin, got myself an Iced coffee, and I sat in my car and enjoyed every bite of that danish! Their danish pastry is about the best I've ever had - except for the bakery from my childhood years- Margie's Cakebox in Scotch Plains, NJ. Every bite of my Mueller's danish today was fresh and heavenly. A lot of the danishes you find today, even from fancy bakeries in NYC, are extremely crusty, and even crunchy. I don't want that! I want to sink my teeth into soft, fluffy-layered danish with a beautiful drizzle of confectioner sugar glaze, the perfect amount of cinnamon, and a generous amount of chopped nuts. If you're looking for old school danish that you will love, you need to visit this bakery, but be prepared to wait on a long line unless you arrive before the shop opens!
