"Tigard’s best ramen bar specializes in tori paitan ramen, a creamy chicken-based broth, but it does more than that: Mugen’s menu offers a number of unconventional bowls, including a lemongrass-scented spicy shrimp with tempura prawns, a salty shio made with eight different types of sea salt from around the world, or a vegan ramen made with Oregon hazelnuts. The move here is decidedly the curry ramen, which combines the tori paitan with curry paste, finished with shimeji mushrooms, corn, and crispy egg noodles. Seating can be limited, so small parties would be the best strategy to avoid a lengthy wait time." - Zoe Baillargeon

"Specializing in Tori Paitan broth — a chicken-based soup with a creamy finish — Mugen Noodle Bar broke out on to the local ramen scene in the spring of last year, creating a significant buzz in Tigard and beyond. Grab a few bowls of ramen, or perhaps some appetizers like takoyaki or potato-corn croquettes, to go or order delivery via GrubHub." - Jordan Curtis

Mugen Noodle Bar is so cool! This place is a little slice of Japan complete with a gorgeous wooden noodle bar (outside seating available as well). Theres a great variety of dishes and beverages. The staff are warm & friendly and the prices are fair. But, the food? 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 I've tried several other ramen places, but Mugen wins the gold medal! Try em out! Two more tips: their spicy dishes can taste somewhat mild for you lovers of 🌶🌶🌶. That means if you want more heat ask for a side of their chili sauce. That also means means don't be afraid to try a dish if its marked as spicy. Also they don't do doordash & such (most likely because delivery ramen is never as good as fresh from the pot!)

Google
Quiet place - only a few seats at the bar. Awesome food and great service - super friendly. Best curry I've had in the area for sure! Will be back!

Google
Came in out of the rain to steaming pots and a clean simple layout. Greeted on entry, one long bar style seating. Grabbed a menu and had a seat. Ordered a pot of tea. Cups for tea and water line the back of the bar. Ordered the Ramen, Tori Paitan, with a side of hot chili oil. Very good broth and mix of toppings. Broth was complex, hearty and a perfect counter to the cold rain. Stand out toppings for me were the bamboo, fresh sprouts, egg and shasu. Will definitely go again.

This is my second time coming to Mugen Noodle Bar and my experience hasn’t changed. Absolutely LOVE the theme of a ramen bar, the owner is incredibly nice and helpful, plus they just introduced sushi to their menu! (Saturdays only from what I believe.) My BF and I got the curry and shoyu ramen. I absolutely love it here. I’ll definitely be making this a regular spot to revisit.

Google
Best ramen i've had here in the states. Broth is not too salty, yet filled with rich umami. Chasu was exceptional--soft and tender from the first bite, and the second bite is welcomed with a charred richness. This restaurant is singlehandedly carrying the Oregon food scene on its back. I will definitely be back soon!

Google
Typical bar style seating small but very pleasant atmosphere. They also have nice outdoor tables. Really outstanding Ramen including a hazelnut based broth for vegans that is absolutely delicious even for the carnivore! I recently tried katsu chicken with beef curry gravy that was superb!!

Google
The cook was great he was sweet and he said if your doing takeout I'll bring it to your car just sit in it It will be out shortly not even 8 minutes pass he walks up and it was piping hot the rice the katsu and the curry was fantastic I can't put it into words once you dip the katsu in the curry it becomes a combined flavor explosion inside your mouth I would recommend to all people to come to this tiny restaurant and try their food out I may not look it or sound like a guy you'd trust for food but I put this one next to the #1 spot or it shares the #1 spot I can't get enough and I love how it's like a Ramen cart where you walk up order and eat hope you all will enjoy it just as I have the food was about 15$ but there are items about 8-12 aswell

Google
checked this place out for lunch after having my eye on it for a while... super worth it!! kind of small space but good serving size+fast service, will definitely come again 😸😸

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and courtesy service. Clean and easy access for parking Great selection of beer and saki.

Mai L.

Yelp
I ordered takeout and got there a little earlier than the estimated time and it was ready! I got the spicy shrimp ramen bowl. It came separated which is always nice because I've gotten soup before and the tempura is soggy by the time I get it back. The shrimp pieces were big. There was lots of toppings. The cherry tomato's were an interesting addition. The broth was more of a tomato base tasting and the spicy chili oil was separated out too so I was able to adjust my spicy in my soup. This hit the spot for sure.

Yelp
This is a must when anywhere in a 1 hour radius. One of the best ramen shops period. The owner is knowledgeable and devoted to the craft. Small hole in the wall type beats mixed with absolutely excellent food. The croquettes pair with their signature Tori Paitan Ramen. Every time I visit Oregon this is on my list of spots to hit and I'll never stop recommending it.

Katy L.

Yelp
This little place in a strip mall like setting is super unassuming and underrated. The prices are very reasonable considering what you get and the dishes are generous. Don't skip on the curry because it's heavenly on a cold, rainy Oregon day (or night!)

Yelp
It is an interesting little place. I really mean little. This is the skinniest restaurant I've been in in this country. All the seating is at the counter, where you watch the cook do his thing. It was pretty busy right before we were there , so he was playing chief cook and bottle washer. He hadn't yet had time to clean up the dishes from a bunch of the previous customers. We (girlfriend and i) had miso ramen and the spicy shrimp bowl. We shared a Sake. The food is pretty decent and it's quick. It's nothing gourmet, but it isn't bad either. I'd go back if it is convenient.

Cella A.

Yelp
Since opening, the quality, flavor, & service has never once decreased. Mugen never disappoints!! I've gotten takeout here multiple times & it's still great. I recommend trying any of their seasonal offerings, since they're always a fun twist and super delicious. There's a clear love for good food & it shines through in every meal. There isn't a single miss on the menu (I love the curry too). Their most recent special included huge chunks of delicious savory (& slightly sweet) braised pork belly. I totally should have added a shoyu egg (for thit kho vibes) but it was amazing without.

Yolanda R.

Yelp
Small cozy ramen bar. Ramen was so delicious, as well as the chili oil and it paired well with my Asian Pear Sake, too. Service was satisfactory. No frills, but I'm excited to return.

Arelysara H.

Yelp
It is now my favorite Ramen place. I appreciated how we were attended quickly. At first I didn't know what to order. I'm glad I chose ti try something new today The iced Thai tea is a must

Deb K.

Yelp
Almost five stars! Ramen and katsu kare were amazingly great! Why less a star? They got crowded real quick so our tea got delayed a while and... the guy making our plates handled uncooked frozen katsu patties with the same hand he was holding menus he received from another customer (without washing his hands). Just please wash your hands next time

Aj T.

Yelp
The kare rice was super flavorful, and the ramen was delicious. The edamame and the thai tea were solid, too.

Kathleen N.

Yelp
interior of restaurant is small/narrow. there are a couple of tables outside. service and food came out quick. spicy shrimp bowl was ok personally for me i didn't enjoy the flavor. calamari was good and fried perfectly!

Selena B.

Yelp
Went during lunch time on a Thursday. Parking lot is a little hard to navigate especially if you have a large car. They have seating in front which makes sense as there is limited side by side bar seating. Literally a noodle bar. My husband and I each got a ramen bowl, a miso and a shio ramen plus a couple appetizers which were the calamari and takoyaki. The appetizers came fresh and hot. The calamari is frozen but freshly fried. Served with a side of cabbage and spicy mayo. Delicious. The takoyaki was a favorite of my husbands. Very smoky and strong flavored of the sauces. The ramen bowls I have to say were basic flavored. It was good but not fantastic. It tastes very similar to ramen ryoma which is a classic but the eggs need to be gooier. The eggs were a bit on the hard side. Too much corn is on the menu. Honestly the canned corn topping is what turned me off on the decision to try the corn and potato croquettes. The staff were very nice but could be a bit more professional. Like carrying a note pad or something to write down our orders instead of keeping track of it in their heads. Would've been a better experience if we weren't asked all the questions and repeating the answers after our order was being made.

Dylan E.

Yelp
A true hidden gem! The owner(?) or person working was very nice and attentive. The curry is amazing! I highly recommend getting it with the Katsu. The place is small but cozy! I love the Japanese bar style seating.

Sophy D.

Yelp
This is good noodle. First time I had it was a fluke. It feeds for longer than one sitting. If you have take-out like I do, you can use the broth again and again. 3 stars out 5 stars each star is good remark

LaRae B.

Yelp
My friend and I had a recent, similar experience as another reviewer who received offputting and rude service. We ate here last month and I have been mulling over writing this review. Overall, the ramen at Mugen was good, but our experience was sadly marred by impolite and dismissive service. Our server seemed irritated and almost annoyed with our presence. From start to finish we felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. It's a shame because I used to like coming here. Hopefully, the restaurant will be able to address the service issues so that other diners can have a more positive experience.

Joy P.

Yelp
The first time I was here, the food was okay. The second time would be my very last time. The cook/server was coughing nonstop and I saw him bring out a frozen breaded cutlet and throw it into the fryer with his bare hands. The katsu was over-cooked, burnt and tough.

Oliver N.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite ramen place for years, but sadly, we won't be going back anymore. When my friend and I arrived and there were only four people inside, the server didn't acknowledge us, and his tone was offensive when he finally spoke to us. He asked us to grab a table and give him our order without even looking at us. The interaction remained awkward throughout, as he didn't say thank you or even a simple "ok" when I paid, just spinning the iPad for the tip and leaving. When he brought us water, he slammed it down without saying anything. What bothered me even more was how differently he treated another table of four who arrived after us. Instead of having them come in to give their order like we did, he went to their table with greetings and a pleasant attitude. We felt discriminated against and confused as we didn't know what we did wrong to upset him from the start. We finished our food quickly and left. I understand that being short-staffed can be frustrating as I've waited tables for 6 years, but treating others nicely isn't that hard. If you decide to support this business, I hope you won't have to experience what we did.

Emily C.

Yelp
I'm so happy I saw some reviews about the service being hostile because that's how my friends and I felt. It was very hostile, and we felt like a bother to him, especially when we were the only ones there. After we ordered our food, he asked how we wanted to pay. Aggressively gave us our food that we got scared. I would have rather sat outside in the cold or order to go, then went back to eat inside. The food was gold, and the cook was nice, but the server was no Bueno.

Tammy K.

Yelp
Not kid friendly, but super cute little ramen joint. Brought my 2 kids both under 5. Sitting at the bar is difficult with littles but we made it work. We got the dry noodles (mazenmen ?), potato /corn croquette, katsu curry, and their main ramen. Everything was super tasty. The noodles had the perfect amount of bite to it, the broth for the ramen was so silky and rich, the pork was perfectly cooked. So decadent. My 2 year old ate all the potato croquette and the mazenmen. My 4 year old ate all the katsu curry. They literally ate everything. I only ordered 3 dishes and an appetizer thinking the kids would only eat half at most of the food, but my husband and I ended up sharing the ramen. Which definitely isn't enough for 2 adults. Overall very tasty food, service was stretched thin because they were short staffed but they did a good job considering. Definitely coming back

Liz M.

Yelp
Nice noodle bowls and drinks beer and soft drinks. Small place not sure I would return meat was chewy

Andrew A.

Yelp
One of the managers was very cool. While the atmosphere is cozy and "authentic", the taste screams Westside. Seems like they cater to Western palettes which is probably a good thing given their location. The Mazeman lacked flavor and any hint of zing. The noodles were bathed in a sweet soy sauce which included corn kernels (wtf?). Ramen seems to be the draw so maybe I ordered the weakling on the menu. While it seems like the community has embraced them, it's just not for me.

Jen D.

Yelp
Repeat customers here and we left happy yet again. It was a rainy, cold night and the food really hit the spot. I had the Spicy Shrimp Ramen (not super spicy, so safe for anyone who likes a little heat but not crazy hot) and my hubby had the Katsu Kare. Both were SO good! My shrimp and hubby's katsu were crispy and yummy, not greasy at all. The ambiance is fun--a long counter where you can pull up a stool and watch the folks making your food (Justin was fun to chat with) or they have patio seating with a heater if you prefer that. I forgot to get photos until after we'd eaten most of it, it was that good!

MelissaAnne B.

Yelp
Cute little intimate ramen bar. There's 2 outdoor dining tables that we seen that could accommodate for families with children since the indoor seating is bar style and harder for the little ones to sit and enjoy. The staff work well together and are speedy. You get to watch your ramen be made right in front of you :) shio ramen: flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. We got the pork chashu which complemented the broth perfectly. Tori paitan: this is what my husband got with extra spice, so I can't really review this one since I didn't even get to try but his words "savory." We can definitely see ourselves coming back again

Amarie H.

Yelp
Food is good. The place has split hours which sucks. But the katsu and ramen is very good

Soni B.

Yelp
Location: It's a small place with outdoor seating. We decided to take our food to go! Food: My entire group ordered the Tori Paitan ramen and I wish the broth had more flavor. I added in the spicy ryu, which helped, but it makes it pretty spicy. I will say that this place has some of the best soft-boiled eggs I have had. Overall, a great experience, and I will need to come back and try something else.

Arun S.

Yelp
Mugen does justice to what they have on the Menu. Ramen's are fantastic and also appetiser's. It's a small restaurant with limited seating inside ( probably can fit in 8 -10pax). They have outdoor seating (couple of benches ). Service is wonderful. Do try this place

Richard H.

Yelp
Ramen is magic. So says my landlord and ramen shop owner in Zushi, Japan, many years ago. Today PNW is my home and I still hunt for that magical bowl of ramen. Magen Noodle Bar is a Ramen shop and restaurant. They have many food items on their menu, not just ramen. But definitely ramen is the star. There are different types to choose from and with add ins for a seamanly limitless number of ramen variations. This shop reminds me of wonder ramen shops in Japan. Some of the best ramen comes from tiny shops similar to Mugen. These shops make their own broth base especially for their signature bowel of ramen. Mugen's Tori Paitan is just such a broth. A cousin of tonkotsu ramen that is pork based, tori paitan is chicken based bone broth. It's a rich creamy broth with awesome flavors. There are so many different recipes from many different ramen shops, broth making is a very important part of ramen. In Mugen's case the broth is simmering for over 12 hours. For me, Mugen's Tori Paitan is awesome. There are some improvements I would like to see. The broth needs to be hotter as in serving temperature. The broth is lukewarm which is more Americani. Recommend switching to ramen bowl with a wider bottom to hold more of the heat. The rice bowls have a smaller bottom with more bowl to broth surface area thus causing the broth to cooldown faster. I asked why use rice bowls and the response was "presentation, holding the noodles higher in the bowl". Humm, I would rather have steaming hot ramen soup while I savor the flavors. The bowls are important and my experience in Japan where ramen has developed over 100 years, bowl design was considered many different ways many different times. Good ramen bowls enhance great ramen experience. One other suggestion is to use more of the tori Paitan broth base in the soup for even more thicker and flavorful ramen.

Yelp
10/10 flame town bomb af delicious goodness. Honestly, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Not just places, but just purely good food. I went on a cruise recently and I was totally pumped for the food. Instead, I came back disappointed and craving just pure home cooking. This is a family owned business and I came upon this gem of a noodle bar completely by luck. I knew after a few bites in, that this place was going to be one I craved. Hands down i n c r e d i b l e. I'm addicted to gyoza/pot stickers and will get them every where I go. These were the best I've ever had. 〰GYOZA Crispity crispy crisp! You can see the bubbles on the outside and the filling was delicious. The sauce was perfect. Great balance of vinegar, spice, soy sauce, and fish sauce. The gentleman who was our server told us he made it fresh that morning. Score! 〰THAI ICED TEA One of the better ones I've had. Not too sweet and not too spice-y. Perfect amount of creamy & "orange" hahahah. I had a hard time choosing my favorite dish. I think I would have to get both each time tbh. 〰KARE RAMEN "Tori chintan broth + house beef roux tare, chicken katsu, ramen" ooooohhh my god. So good. Noodles were really well cooked and not too firm/soft and a little thicker. The broth was perfect and I'll be craving it. Chicken cutlet wasn't over cooked and crispy. CHICKEN MAZEMEN This dish has no broth, but is saaaawwwcy. Loved the addition of peanuts and corn and just phenom. I added their house chili oil for spice and I recommend this. The dish isn't spicy at all but it's nice to control your own spice tolerance. Highly recommend.

John D.

Yelp
Delighted with our choices. Justin, the lead, was a delight to interact with for our entire meal - - very knowledgeable about this cuisine, shared fun places around the area, offered lots of ideas for our own adventures in cooking.

Alan D.

Yelp
My brother and my friend were looking for a place to eat and we ended up wanting some ramen. This place popped up near our hotel so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the Ramen, while my brother ordered the Katsu Curry. My friend ordered the curry ramen (not picturered). We also shared gyoza together. The seating is a bit small inside, but gives the nostalgia feel of eating in a ramen shop since you eat in a bar like setting. Shoyu Ramen: overall, it was rather tasty and delicious. It was not too salty and had a fair portion of veggies and one piece of chashu pork. It was at least a healthy cut of pork though. Gyoza: Nothing special, but it was still delicious. Overall, not a bad place to grab a bite to eat. I would come here again

Katherine Y.

Yelp
We found this small ramen joint from Yelp recommendations. The only large tables are outside of store. However, it doesn't dampen the experience. Owner was very friendly and helped us to table promptly. among the 7 of us, we tried all of their ramen on the menu. The soy egg was very good. I love the Chasu pork which is not only flavorful but the skin was very lightly crisped. We would recommend it if you are in the area.

Ryan S.

Yelp
I don't know how many of my reviews have started with, "I wish I could give half stars." 3.5 would be my review and normally I round up... but not this time and I apologize but you will have to wait for the bad. So I start with the good, the ramen was great! I had the Tori Paitan with the chili oil. The broth was creamy and rich, I loved it, could have bathed in it! The pork was rich and crispy, and all the other toppings were delicious. Moreover, my parents had never had true delicious ramen. They fell in love and had me look up the top rated ramen restaurants all around them. The bad, the restaurant was not very clean and a bit chaotic. The restroom was, not clean which leads one to question the cleanliness of the food... which they cook right in front of you. The way in which they give you the food, haphazardly passing it over the bar or through the bamboo blinds, leaves more to be desired. The ugly, frozen, frozen food everywhere. When I walked to the bathroom there were bags of frozen Goza sitting out, I saw them thawing frozen corn and frying frozen shrimp tempura. It is so hard to trust a restaurant when so much of the food is frozen. What else was frozen? The pork, the noodles what else?!

Paul M.

Yelp
The person who I perceived to be the owner of this establishment seemed very kind so I kind of feel guilty giving three stars. However, this was possibly the worst ramen I have ever had. I consider myself a ramen connoisseur and this was not it. The broth and noodles tasted like Campbells chicken noodle soup minus the chicken. Not sure if they were in a hurry but there was little to no vegetables and the broth was really salty. The spring roll I had tasted like a frozen spring roll from a supermarket. The place was roughly 200 square feet and there was no seating when we arrived so we got take out. I will not be returning.

Sonic P.

Yelp
Expected more from the curry, a little plain in my opinion, the service was good though

Raquel Y.

Yelp
Wow. Who knew Beaverton would have amazing ramen?! As someone who has had several hundred ramen bowls and got nicknamed "ramen sheriff," happy to say I was very pleased with this place. This is my #92 ramen review! TORI PAITAN RAMEN: Noodles - woww. Thick, al dente, perfect! Chashu pork - AMAZING. I was mind blown, one of the best, most flavorful, umami pork in a ramen bowl. Broth - delicious, creamy, rich. Egg - perfectly soft boiled, however I didn't really taste the shoyu marinade. Also tried the mazemen ramen which was also flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend this place, and if you're a ramen lover like me, worth the drive from Portland over to Beaverton.

Deb F.

Yelp
Great ramen! We first went shortly after they opened for business about 3 yrs ago and it was ok. Went back this week and I'm sorry I waited so long to return! We had the Tori Paitan ramen and the Spicy Shrimp ramen. I posted the photos and noticed that I'd posted them from the first time we went - guess we got the exact same things then! The Tori Paitan broth was rich and not overly salty. Good pork flavor. The chashu was delicious and the noodles were perfectly cooked - not too soft. It was fantastic. Husband enjoyed his shrimp ramen too. I wanted to get the croquettes but was told they don't have those. Not sure if it was just that day, or if they're off the menu for good. This is a small shop with limited seating. We ended up sitting outside, luckily they turned the heater on for us, but keep it in mind - there's counter seating inside for maybe 8 (??) people and that's it for indoors. Definitely going back for another great bowl of ramen.

Andrew W.

Yelp
Ate here a few months ago - sat at one of the outdoor tables. It's a tiny space with only bar seating inside. The tori paitan ramen is great quality stuff, competitive with my favorite tori paitan ramen at Marufuku (locations in the Bay Area and Orange County in CA, and Frisco, TX) It's rich, maybe a bit too rich - the broth had a visible half-centimeter layer of clear rendered fat, no issue on a cold winter day, but a bit overwhelming on the palate otherwise. The spicy shrimp ramen was more memorable - a lemongrass-laced broth evoking something halfway between ramen and tom yum, topped with two large, plump, perfectly fried tempura shrimp. Acidity is the main element often missing from ramen as a general food category, and the lemongrass here really rounds out the aforementioned richness of the tori paitan base, making it shockingly easy to drink down the entire bowl of broth. Definitely worth a visit (or several) for anyone in the area!

Yirla G.

Yelp
Cute little ramen place with delicious food. I got the curry ramen and a matcha latte and both were really good! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because their customer service is to desire for. I felt like we were a bother coming to their place to eat. I also noticed one of the staff members being rude to a couple and you could tell they felt very uncomfortable with the interaction.

Christina N.

Yelp
Solid place for a good bowl of ramen. I visited here on a random Monday around 5 pm and I was the only one there. It's a pretty small restaurant with only ramen bar seating and a few tables outside. Staff was friendly. I ended up ordering: Tori Paitan ($15) - a very subtle broth with pork chashu and all your normal ramen fixings. The broth was a little mellow for my liking but I added the spicy ryu sauce for $1 and that added a good kick to the broth. The pork was flavorful, I do wish there was more of it but that's on me for not ordering extra. Thai Iced Tea ($4) - classic Thai Iced Tea, nothing to complain about nothing to rave about. Solid place, didn't knock my socks off but I would visit again if I was in the area!

Mary W.

Yelp
Small place with big flavors! The miso ramen is so good. The pork is seared and the egg is perfectly cooked

Natalie K.

Yelp
We went here on a rainy day after searching for a ramen place with good Yelp review. This did not disappoint. My husband was looking for something more basic tori paitan. It was good but I would have liked it with more spice. I got the spicy shrimp bowl and needed extra spice. The egg rolls and slaw on the side was extremely good. There is only counter space to sit inside which we enjoyed. If you have more people, there are tables outside. Parking was super easy because it's in a strip mall and the bathroom was iffy but again, it's a pretty small store where I'm assuming most get takeout.

Morgan F.

Yelp
The ramen we ordered was so yummy and the service was great. Our food was brought out to our car because there was limited seating inside, but we didn't mind. Everyone was nice and I'd love to go back again.

Kim Ann T.

Yelp
Tiny ramen spot tucked in a strip mall with the coziest homey vibes! It really sets up the right ambience to enjoy a warm bowl of ramen. Overall, the ramen was okay. I've had better, I've had worse. Takoyaki was great.

Natasha K.

Yelp
COVID UPDATE: Though the listing says otherwise, this location is NOT open for indoor dining as of 3/6 however, there are 3 tables outside to sit at. The ramen here is incredible! So full of flavor and totally worth the hype. Big portion sizes and generous on the broth. We got the curry ramen with chicken and the shoyu Chintan ramen. The chicken in both bowls were so incredibly tender and delicious it practically melted in our mouths. The crunchy noodles on top of the curry ramen was a great touch as well! Overall, a great spot for some amazing, flavorful ramen!

Bryon L.

Yelp
Take Out Rating: Plan to use your microwave I'll have to give it a dine in try. Not a 5 star "best" in my opinion from this experience. Between Fuddo, Ryoma, Afiri, Yuzu, Lucky Cat and Magokoro I'd rank it 3rd or 4th flavor wise. I ordered a to go order of some basic Miso Ramen (add Ajitama (Soft-boiled egg)) and Shio Ramen (add extra broth). The Good: The Chashu was perfect and happy they grill both sides. Good portion thickness wise as well. Broth was flavorful and portion covered the noodles well. Both the Miso and Shio had good flavor. Portions were average although after seeing the up-charges and the add on portions I would not add any extras again. The noodle container is great and microwave safe. Not sure about the broth containers, I've had similar ones melt. The Bad: Paid and extra $2 for the egg and they forgot it which is annoying since a dozen eggs cost less. Selected the earliest pickup time which was 30 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes early and my food was already waiting. Based on the one couple out front I can only assume it had been ready for 10 minutes already. The food staging area is an open air SS rack (no warming) and could tell it was fairly cool when I grabbed the bag. I guess the issue is you never know when it will be ready, it likely depends on how busy they are. I live 1.8 miles away (6 minutes) so by no means a far trip home. All I'm saying is leaving it sitting for 10-15 longer then necessary makes a difference. Especially if it's the difference between driving the extra distance to get something that's arguably better. I've driven to further places for takeout ramen and it was hotter when I got home.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Immediately noticed how small and tight it was - so probably not a good spot for a larger group but it was fine for the 3 of us. There are 10 counter seats and a few small tables outside on the sidewalk. The food was great. Tori Paitan ramen was incredible - flavorful and smooth. The pork in the ramen was probably the best I have found in the Portland area. We also had an order of calamari which was fried to perfection. We also share a very nice mild curry with rice and a, again, perfectly fried, panko crusted chicken cutlet. This is a surprisingly good find.

Yelp
First time going here, it's a small spot with about 20 seats total. The interior is just the bar with a few tables outside. Their selection isn't as big as larger ramen shops but they still offer some good soups and appetizers. Got their Tori ramen and Mazemen noodles. Both were very flavorful, but may require extra chili oil if you like to spice it up. Because they're a small shop and have a limited crew, politeness/service is sacrificed for speed during their rush times. All in all a good spot to try, especially since there's not many ramen shops around this area.

Yelp
I came here when they first opened. The owner and his wife was working there. It was really nice to get to talk to the owners and get to know how they came up with their ramen. They were genuinely interested in the feedback of their customers. My first visit I enjoyed the Tori Paitan (most popular) ramen especially their noodles. They told me then they sourced the ramen noodles locally in the area. Today I came in and due to covid restrictions we dined out. There were two tables of 4 chairs each available for outdoor dining. We came in the afternoon but it was slightly chilly since the sun didn't hit the area. The tables were a bit low for me and my bf. We both had to hunch over to eat our ramen and it wasn't comfortable. My knees pretty much almost hit the table. Maybe do takeout instead? Ok... now to the food. Overall left feeling disappointed. The broth wasn't as good, the chasu was very bland to me and my bf. I don't know... just felt the food wasn't as good. Not sure if it's just this visit or because of covid restrictions playing a part, or just the food quality had gone down.

Yelp
It pains me to leave this review. We've been loyal Mugen fans for so long and have eaten here countless times. I visited here with an out of town guest in July and the Ramen was completely flavorless. What's more disappointing was that the Hazelnut broth had completely separated. It was all so weird. There were people there cooking and running the register who I had not seen previously and I chalked up the experience to they were having a bad day. We visited today (late August) and sat outside. NO ONE was there, which was weird for a Saturday afternoon. I immediately thought, 'Well, THIS is a bad sign.' Gotta say the broth is off. All of our dishes had watery, flavorless broth. Sadness. Not sure what's happening at Mugen, but it isn't good. I'd take a pass on this place going forward.
