"South Park is generally a boujee, upscale neighborhood, so to really shake things up, try the non-trendy, divey oasis that is Mugs Coffee off of Park Road. Mugs has been rocking its quirky style, board games, funky local art, and Instagram-less vibe since 2011 (a long time for the Charlotte coffee scene). Book clubs, writing workshops, and community meet-ups happen on the couches and tables of this coffee shop. The coffee and tea aren’t polished craftsmanship, but they do hit the spot and taste like they were made by someone who cares about you, before or after a long day of work. It’s a sweet spot to just get a reliable Magnolia drip coffee and a quick bagel, to work and write, and to be away from the hustle and bustle." - Kayleigh Ruller

Not only was the coffee delicious, but the service was nothing short of exceptional. Incredibly nice people and excellent amounts of seating. Came into town for a few weeks and decided to stop by here for a cup of coffee. Ended up making this my hub to work out of when I had meetings. Highly recommend to anyone who is ever in this part of town. 10/10

Google
Very cool space to crack open a laptop and sip a coffee with breakfast. Decent muffin, nothing special. Fast and very friendly service

Google
I got the combo - an iced coffee, chicken salad croissant, and cookie all for under $10 with a tip! You just don't find that anymore. The person working the counter was so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was perfect for what I needed. Easily found a table and outlet. Excellent experience all the way around! It feels great to support a small business.

Come here for the REAL coffee shop experience. Great place to socialize, study, have a delicious coffee, or to even sit outside to enjoy the sunlight. The staff is super welcoming. The environment is a conducive place for quality study time, social time, or even a game night! I am very thankful for this coffee shop and just hope it continues to stick around long enough to become a Charlotte landmark.

Google
One of the best coffee shops I have been to. First time going here and will definitely be back. Friendly service and DELICIOUS coffee. Tried their holiday iced coffees

Google
Just needed some coffee and found this hidden gem! The smell of freshly ground coffee hits you as you walk in to find a place that is cozy with a relaxed vibe, friendly and professional barista, great coffee, and I also had a great chocolate chip cookie. Probably the best coffee I had in the greater Charlotte area!

Google
Great Hot Tea Assortment ! Good coffees

Google
Amazing coffee and environment but one thing I do find a little disappointing is how they stop serving any type of food an hour before close? I understand 30 minutes before but an hour is excessive!

Yelp
First off, best iced americano in Charlotte! There's 4 shots of espresso in their small and my husband and I go here once a week for our morning coffee. Oliver and his team already know the order when we walk in giving the best service. Besides the americano, their chai is so tasty and served extra hot! Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick coffee or even a place to study with some background noise.

Vince H.

Yelp
Nice location and space inside with good seating. Place smell so great with freshly made coffee. They have excellent coffee selection of coffee!

Siran T.

Yelp
Gem in the neighborhood! Ambiance - it's the place for board games. Apparently many people staying here for hours. The shop does offer a variety of games as well. WiFi is available. The only thing is that the restroom is not super tidy, but I won't complain about it. Service - the barista was nice and helpful with my questions. She was also fast serving my coffee. Food - a good selection of drinks and snacks - if you get hungry playing games. The seasonal flavors were impressive and I love the cinnamon crunch. Large latte was $4 compare to Starbucks same size would be $6.

Carrie J.

Yelp
Great experience! I got the lavender blossom latte which was divine and the everything bagel with egg, bacon and cheese which hit the spot. Very nice staff and ample parking. Very chill vibe inside with a variety of seating options and board games!

Nubia A.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in all of Charlotte! Best coffee,, great vibes,, affordable and awesome!

Laurie R.

Yelp
This is a friendly and warm coffee shop I love local coffee shops and have visited here every year when I visit Charlotte. People meet each other, study, work, and my friend and I chatted with strangers as they sat with their well behaved dogs. I wish I could come here more often. It's much nicer than my local coffee shop! The owner is great and knows how to make. Great specialty drink. I highly recommend!

Abby D.

Yelp
Chai lattes are soooo good!!! And the service has always been great when I go, they're quick and super nice. Love it here.

Mary Lindsay W.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Charlotte. Mugs is family owned and has the same couple staff members always working so you really feel like you can get to know them. Although some people have mentioned it being pricey, I feel like their prices are much more reasonable than other places in the area. In addition to the drinks, they also have several nice quick breakfast options (ex. Muffins, bagels, paninis, etc.). I'd much rather patronize Mugs than larger chain coffee shops. It is a gem!

Brittnee P.

Yelp
Cheap tasting coffee that was watered down and poptart looking croissant. For the price I expected better. Cool vibes inside though.

Jared W.

Yelp
Mugs Coffee offers solid coffee, an excellent space to work/hangout, and amazing service! I've tried their Americano hot and iced along with their espresso. The hot Americano was too weak in my opinion, but the espresso alone is enjoyable with subtle fruit nuances that don't come through in the Americano. The iced Americano is MUCH stronger than the hot version and is great! The shop is a large space with plenty of tables for working or playing some of the board games they offer. The customer service has been outstanding in my visits. Mugs has incredibly friendly staff, and you can tell by the interactions with any "regulars" you encounter that they offer a true neighborhood coffee shop feel.

Zain K.

Yelp
Charlotte has its share of good independent coffee shops right now, and most of the ones I go to have a sleek, modern veneer to them. Mugs is different from those, having a more unassuming, neighborhood-y feel. Neither vibe is inherently better, and it's nice to be able to choose one or the other to fit your mood. Consistent with the vibe, Mugs' pricing is lower than that of any other place in town I can think of, and that, of course, is much appreciated, especially in this inflationary environment. On the rainy Sunday afternoon I was here, it was packed (see photo), and the only spot open was a stool at the bar. Normally this would be more than fine (a preference, even), but the bar counter at Mugs is a few higher than normal, for whatever reason, so that was a little awkward for laptop work (whether seated or standing). As for the coffee itself (specifically, a small americano), it was fine, but not great. Regardless, Mugs will definitely be in my coffee shop rotation from now on.

Kelsey H.

Yelp
Neighborhood coffee hangout place. Dog friendly. Family friendly. Board games. Variety of furniture. Comfortable and cozy. Quiet. Good place to study. Kind staff.

Michelle F.

Yelp
Had to have my coffee fix this morning and I wanted to try out a new coffee shop! Mugs is really cute and the service is amazing. You can tell there are regulars here but also they are super helpful to new customers. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly they whipped up a peppermint mocha and a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant but everything tastes amazing and I am going to be early for work! Easy to park in a Harris Teeter shopping center.

Yelp
My first time here in Mugs and it won't be my last. The only place in Charlotte where you can bring your dog (no size or breed restrictions) inside and enjoy a coffee. The employees were so kind and even gave my little Benji a treat while I was ordering. I ordered a caramel latte with almond milk and it was delicious :) They have many flavor options and alternative dairy-free milk! Thanks for letting me have a place where there's free wifi and my little Benji to join in my study sessions :)

Mario M.

Yelp
Upon entering Mugs, the beautiful smell of coffee is just intoxicating. The atmosphere is great. Cool music, nice vibe and the employee that helped me was very friendly. I was looking for a lavender coffee drink for my wife. I asked for the coffee to be extra flowery. Unfortunately, when my wife tasted, she had no idea what it was. She tasted not a hint of lavender. We were grateful that they had a small selection of gluten free items to eat. The pastries were ok. Not sure if we'd visit again, with all of the choices in the area.

Sunnie B.

Yelp
Overall bomb service, environment, and fs bomb chai latte! Go here all the time to do computer work and always look forward to it.

Gabrielle M.

Yelp
Mugs Coffee allows well-behaved dogs INside their cafe! We were able to enjoy our lates and Fenny was able to enjoy the AC in this summer heat! The baristas are all so friendly and would give him a treat. The lates are also delicious. We've been here several times throughout the summer and have gotten iced and hot drinks. They offer food items as well, but we haven't tried those. Great place with a cozy atmosphere!

kaira s.

Yelp
The place has a nice atmosphere. My muffin was stale, bagel was generic, and my Mocha was delicious. One of the workers kept complaining about having to smell bacon, which was annoying to hear, repeatedly. It's my fault for sitting at the bar, only open seats. The eggs, bacon, and sausage reminded me of what you would get at a hotel breakfast, by how it looked. My friend who ate it said it was fine. The prices are really good, so it seemed like "You get what you pay for." She said her everything bagel sandwich was fine and her Chai was lackluster. I loved my Mocha, I will be going back for coffee and the place itself is comfortable and a good size.

Lori S.

Yelp
Great coffee place to get work done for a couple of hours and bring your dog as well! I chose this place strictly to its proximity to Ballantyne and that I could bring my dog here - no breed restrictions! Friendly staff, decent drinks, cozy seating. Overall, the place is kind of dark, not a lot of natural light and it tends to get loud and crowded quickly in the afternoons so it's hard to focus on work for long! Wish they had more vegetarian / vegan breakfast options.

Radio M.

Yelp
The barista, Crystal, has excellent service and caters to every customers' need. My matcha latte was spectacular. There were no clumps of matcha at the bottom of the cup!! There are many outlets in the store for electronics and the music is very nice and calming. I would recommend Mugs to anyone in the area.

Heather W.

Yelp
I love mugs.I live close by.I'll have to get some when I get more $ Hope to go back soon.

Deb D.

Yelp
Love this place...fast friendly service, great coffee options and flavors and most importantly they didn't jack up the prices like everyone else did...can still get a latte for under $5, which is how it should be. Sad I moved so far away but I come here whenever I am in town.

Meghan B.

Yelp
A good spot if you need some coffee in Charlotte. Lots of parking and seating. I went with a regular coffee with almond milk, no complaints!

Jeremy C.

Yelp
So this is your typical coffee shop that serves coffee and other "fancy"coffees like Lattes and cappuccinos. The people were friendly and the restaurant was clean and inviting. We both opted for the Cappuccinos and while she got the banana nut muffin, I got a delightful lemon cherry muffin. Think a cherry muffin with a lemon custard cream in the middle. It was great. I want more of those. I didn't hear anybody arguing politics with anyone and everyone I saw that came in had on a mask and even put them on when they went to the restrooms or upon leaving. The coffee was good so if Im back in the South Charlotte are and am in need of coffee I will return.

Ashley W.

Yelp
The iced americano was delicious and strong. The space is really nice and has plenty of places to sit. It seemed like they knew several customers, which is always nice to see from a local coffee shop! I will definitely return here whenever I'm in Charlotte again.

Teresa L.

Yelp
I've been here before and had a good experience but today I got a medium chai latte that was a little pricey and it tasted horrible and the space felt a little dirty. Not sure what happened. They let me get a matcha instead but just didn't do it for me today.

Emily D.

Yelp
I started going when my school (college) didn't allow us to hang out with each other on campus. I have fond memories of going with my teammates and the lovely employees would let us stay till closing and never rushed us. They always had an amazing assortment of gluten free items and took the upmost care in ensuring there was never any cross-contamination. But the best part was the employees. They would always greet us with a smile and learned our first names and orders. They would chat with us and when we were deep in our work, bring over our coffees to where we were sitting. The staff always went above and beyond and I will miss this place so much! To the Mugs employees, thank you for making my college experience so much better and providing a safe place for all of us to gather. If you are in the neighborhood, please check this place out! You won't regret it!!!!

Peter M.

Yelp
I love the way Oliver and his team at Mug's is handling the pandemic. Prop open the door, let one customer in at a time, and presto, they're pouring your hot brew as usual. What could be simpler? Besides all the usual suspects from the barista, they also have a limited assortment of sweets, breakfast sammies, and trail bars. The only difference now is you cannot dine inside which, sadly, is the best part of a coffee shop. No more hanging with your pals on the couches or working the computer at a high top. Think of how many world problems are not being solved, or novels being written. It's a shame. On a positive note, outside they do have a few tables spaced apart with two chairs at each. If your partner is Corona-free, nice place to sit and sip. Keep frequenting Mugs, they deserve all the whirls you can give 'em.

Bjorn M.

Yelp
Was craving a breakfast sandwich and iced coffee so of course I hopped on Yelp to find a small business option near me and Mugs Coffee popped up. I ordered a cinnamon & almond iced latte with coconut milk and a BEC on everything bagel. I loved the breakfast sandwich b/c it didn't have the huge spongy egg that some of the other places serve on their sandwiches. It was simple and delicious.

Steve V.

Yelp
It's hard to find a reasonably priced coffee shop these days, but Mugs is just that! I met a friend here for coffee around 10am on a Saturday and there was no problem finding a table. There was a short line and the coffee was ready quickly after we ordered. My chai latte was only $3 and tasted excellent. The interior is quaint and has all types of seating, including bar space, small tables, large tables, couches, and that "at home" feeling. It is located in a strip mall, but parking is easy as I had no problem finding a spot right up front. The staff was friendly and there was no rush, although there were signs on some tables said they were reserved later that day.

Amanda W.

Yelp
This local coffeeshop used to be one of my favorite studying spots in Charlotte during the school year. The coffee is always super good and made really quickly. This time I got the iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it was really creamy and delicious. I really love this spot because of the atmosphere though; it's very cozy and I love seeing the local art on the walls. I also really love how it's so dog friendly! It's typically never too crowded when I go and there's plenty of seating in the coffee shop. I love going to Mugs for a study session or to catch up with a friend!

Steph G.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I found this little gem a few months ago and love stopping by each chance we get! The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and the decor is Eclectic and fun to scope out. Seems there are often folks working on laptops or just sitting chatting. Lively but not loud at all! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the drinks are quite as consistent in flavor as one would hope when returning to repeat your order of delicious coconilla lattes! I would for sure recommend this place and will be going back!

Ken H.

Yelp
Very friendly service and really excellent coffee. I mean a lot better than the swill served in most places. Good prices. Good selection. Great neighborhood atmosphere.

Dayana V.

Yelp
I was in the area and needed a place with WiFi service. The help of a quick google search led me to this nice establishment. The female working there was very nice, she greeted everyone that walked through the door. I treated myself to a snack while I worked. The overall ambiance was good.

Steven L.

Yelp
I found my favorite coffee shop in the Rock Hill, SC / Charlotte, NC area. It is this one. They have free WiFi that you can connect to without a password. Plus their WiFi is fast. How I found this place? Well, I won a $30 gift card by buying a raffle ticket at an outdoor event about a month ago. I'm really glad I did. Inside this coffee shop you will find lots of comfortable seating that includes couches, chairs, bar stools and leather seats. Their air conditioning is set at the perfect temperature that makes for a comfortable atmosphere but yet ambient surroundings. Also, everything in updated and clean. All I can say is that is very relaxing every time I come here. On Scene: Every time I come here, I get great fast friendly customer service no matter who waits on me. And the main thing that drives me here, great coffee. I also like their white chocolate mocha. Features: I noticed there are paintings and art work on the walls in here today. You can actually buy these as there are prices on each art piece or painting. For example, I see photos of art work above my table for $100 each. It is labeled "A study in smoke". How cool is that. Whatever! It just tells you that you can find some unusual items for sale here. In summary, I like this coffee shop. You can come here and relax and have great cup of coffee. I just wished there was one closer to where I live. The owners should look at building more of these and give Starbucks a "run for their money".

Brittany E.

Yelp
Good coffee. Dog friendly. However, to the Young Male Barista working Sunday 5/7/23 at 4:00 PM ... first, greet your customer (s). A simple hello goes a long way. Second, when the first person orders in a visible 2 person party, please ask if that's all for the order. Don't scuff at me when I add the rest of my order because you didn't ask.

Nicole C.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! The coffee is delicious and the atmosphere is really great. I love that they allow dogs and all the staff here is really friendly. Lately the only concern and the only reason it is not getting the five stars is because there seems to be a very annoying gnat/fruit fly problem happening.

Audrey A.

Yelp
This place is one of my go to's to work from. The atmosphere is always relaxing and everyone is friendly. They have a great lunch deal where you get a sandwich, drink and side for like $6. Would highly recommend!

Wei J.

Yelp
Good coffee and quiet space to read a book and get some work done. Hope there can be more food options.

J F.

Yelp
Stopped by while on a bike ride. Super friendly staff created a welcoming environment. Just grabbed a cup of tea, can't comment on the coffee although it looked great and smelled fantastic. Would definitely return, if only for the warm ambience.

Mark L.

Yelp
I found this coffee location obviously on Yelp. It had good reviews and they didn't disappoint. My daughter and I were in Charlotte for a concert and we always try to support the locals. The staff was very friendly. :-) Bacon egg and cheese sandwich was really good. Iced vanilla latte was a good choice. I will recommend this place and visit again next time we are in Charlotte.

Wayne O.

Yelp
Best coffee spot in town. Oliver and his crew are always excellent with their service and selection. This is the way we want a coffee shop to be. Local folks that take care of their customers.

Merna A.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this coffee shop because it is one of the few who currently have indoor seating. I was able to study and enjoy a dirty chai latte made by the nicest barista! Will definitely be coming back here in the future.

Alli T.

Yelp
Tried Mugs Coffee for the first time this morning and it was WONDERFUL! The staff were extremely nice and helpful. The selection was fantastic, we opted for a Carmel latte and an iced pumpkin latte and both were great. The prices we better than any in the area and the quality was second to none. I'm looking forward to making this our new go to coffee spot.

Michelle O.

Yelp
Staff is not good about wearing masks or sanitizing. The girl was literally kissing her bf behind the counter and then pulled up her mask to help me. Also packed with people, too many with Covid.

Julie J.

Yelp
Unfortunately, my to Mugs today will be my last. There are several contributing factors leading to my decision. First, there is no mask requirement signage; second, MANY people were coming in and out without masks. Obviously, the customers health and safety at Mugs during this pandemic is not a priority for management. Every person that was there has now been put at risk. Third, I prefer to relax at a cafe instead of having to listen to an employee arguing loudly with a customer about politics. The conversation made me and my friends very uncomfortable. It would have been more appropriate for the employee to have simply acknowledged the customer without engaging them. What a disappointment!

Vince M.

Yelp
Although somewhat hidden off of a bustling Park Road, this little independent coffee shop is a refreshing alternative to the army of Starbucks that dominate the area. The coffee selections are plentiful, and the large Caramel Coffee Shake that I ordered was tasty and reasonably priced at $4.49; however, the best thing about this place is its roomy, comfortable seating area that includes leather couches and chairs facing a wall mounted HDTV along with plenty of well-spaced tables. The late Tuesday morning that I visited, for the first time, nearly half of the seating was occupied by a diverse mix of patrons (all mesmerized, of course, by their electronic devices). Some food items such as muffins, cookies, brownies and bagel sandwiches are available. I tried a chocolate chip cookie that was just okay. My friend had a Mocha Latte and was pleased with it. The sole employee frantically, yet efficiently, filled coffee orders and was as friendly as he had time to be. It did concern me though to see him handle a bagel with ungloved and unwashed hands after collecting a customer's cash, but I admire his diligence in waiting on the six or so of us in line. Other than that, the overall sanitary score was an impressive 99, and I agree with the majority of Yelpers in that this place is worth a try.

Erin W.

Yelp
Pros: -plenty of parking -great music playlist -staff is helpful and friendly -cozy atmosphere with plenty of tables to get work done -WiFi -interesting artwork on the walls Cons: -very slim food selection A little disappointed they don't have more food offerings- I usually get lunch when I'm working at a coffee shop. However the space is cozy and I like that it's got a locals- vibe

Zabrina L.

Yelp
I love coming to this place to study. Their coffee options is better than Starbucks and that's saying a lot! Most small coffee shops don't give you as many (or any!) sugar-free and fat free options. This shop had tons of sugar free syrups and fat free mocha as well! The staff is always sweet and hospitable. I just wish they would open later into the night!

Toya B.

Yelp
I find that coffee shops are warm and inviting. Pretty much anywhere you go. This was not the case here. When I walked in, there were 2 people at the counter having a conversation. They both paused, looked at me walk in, and continued their conversation. I did not get a "good morning" a "hello" a "headnod "...nothing. In fact as I stood at the cash register waiting to order, (these people were maybe, 4 feet away or less) my presence was not acknowledged at all. And when one did acknowledge me, they said "are you ready?" in the most condescending manner I've ever received from a barista!! Then, when I ordered, the one making the drink had the snottiest attitude, put my drink on the counter and didn't wish me a good day, all they said was "here". I have zero clue what type of people work here, obviously not the nice/kind/personable type. My first day in the neighborhood and I thought I would try a new coffee shop, perhaps a place to escape to to do work during the week. I found a place where I will not ever go back to, and I encourage others to steer clear as well.
