Southwest Atlanta Dining Guide - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Mulan has quietly minded its business at the far end of a Fairburn Road shopping center for years. It’s become a favorite for food delivery services, and it’s also the rare non-chain on the Southside that offers dine-in service and has a small bar, too. Unfussy yet charming, the spacious restaurant shows its appreciation for Asia’s many cuisines with a menu consisting of items like kabobs, California rolls, and cashew chicken. If you’re in the mood for Chinese, try the crispy egg rolls and a chicken sizzling rice soup that’s just salty enough. The pepper steak is well-flavored, but you won’t get enough for a to-go container." - demarco williams, nina reeder, jacinta howard

Mulan Cascade - Review - Cascade - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Mulan has quietly minded its business at the far end of a Fairburn Road shopping center for years. It’s become a favorite for food delivery services, and it’s also the rare non-chain on the Southside that offers dine-in service and has a small bar, too. Unfussy yet still stylishly charming, the spacious restaurant shows its appreciation for Asia’s many cuisines with a menu consisting of items like kabobs, California rolls, and cashew chicken. If you’re in the mood for Chinese, try the crispy egg rolls and a chicken sizzling rice soup that’s just salty enough. The pepper steak is well-flavored, but you won’t get enough for a to-go container. The kitchen will make up for its small portions by preparing General Tso’s shrimp for you, even though it’s not on the menu." - DeMarco Williams

I love this spot! My sister treated me to lunch here several years ago and I have been trying to get back to eat here. When my family took me out to eat for my birthday, Mulan's immediately came to mind. I was not disappointed! Everything was fantastic! The service, the food, beverages! Everything! I would highly recommend everyone stop in for a bite to eat! I will be returning very soon!

This place is in a plaza. At night it’s the only thing going in the corner. A little dark corner. Good seating and decent moody vibe. Great service. Plenty of options on the menu. The Fried snapper was huge and worth the price. Looked great, tasted fair. It was powdery like they only used flour to coat. Fish was fresh but a bit flowery. I did eat it all. Mushrooms and asparagus was good and eggplant was good. I felt like fried fish is safe so I chose that. Small drink menu but they have other options, just request what u like. Restrooms need some updating but they’re usable. Fair restaurant, if u like Asian food, try this place, it’s fair! Sushi was really good.

Google
The food was tasty, but not exceptional. I tasted both the egg drop and sweet and sour soups, and the temperature was not hot. However, the egg drop was better. Food presentation was better than taste itself. One person ordered the shrimp fried rice, and it looked like it was just dumped onto the plate, while other rice dishes were shaped.??? Ordered lemon pepper and braised wings dinners to go besides my meal, and received wrong meal. Didn't bother to contact restaurant due to distance it would take to return. Overall I think the meals were good, but could've been better

Google
First time at the restaurant in a few years. The flavor is gone and the the fried rice was more like Uncle Ben's rice. We should haIve went to Hans Greenbriar which was our first choice but we wanted to dine in.

Google
First and last time trying this spot. I ordered sweet and sour shrimp. I get home ready to enjoy my food and noticed they fried the shrimp in this batter that was absolutely disgusting taste and texture. I had to peel the shrimp out of the batter to get some type of meal out of this. Then they gave me this big ssa container of sweet and sour. Why all the sauce ? To compensate for the food being nasty I’m assuming… look at all the batter in the photos. Unbelievable, I’m more than disappointed!!!

Google
I ordered take out on 4/17 and I had a good experience. Ordered by phone and my food was ready when I arrived. This was my first time here and my first time ordering Asian out in over a decade. I really enjoyed the vegetable lo mein and spring rolls. I’ll return to dine in and have some drinks.

Google
We found this place by accident since it's not on a main road. I was thrilled by the menu that I had seen online and hoped the food lived up to my expectations. I had no complaints! We ordered the Seafood rice, Salmon kabobs, vegetable Lo Mein, vegetable dumplings (fried), and a vegetable roll. To drink we had the Hennessey Margerita displayed on their website, it held no punches and was very tasty! The atmosphere was chill, laid back. There's a bar and outside seating as well. The kitchen is in plain view to see as well. The service was quick and friendly and the prices were reasonable. I have to return to try more items such as the whole fried Red Snapper and the spicy Calamari! Enjoy!

Google
The food is DELICIOUS and the portions are plentiful for the price. There's amazing live music on Fridays too. The owner is very nice and works the bar. The regulars are very friendly, too. Think modern day Cheers.

Yelp
I got take out. It was fast and the food was what I was expecting. Only thing that would have been better was more wontons in the wonton soup. But what stood out to me was the customer service. I had my 6 year old and my 7 month old with me so needless to say, my hands were full. The gentleman up front offered to take my bags to the car. It was really helpful and it made loading the kids in the car so much easier. The food is a little expensive but still good. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would.

Yelp
Visiting in town from San Diego. The last time I came out to Georgia and Tennessee, it was hard to find good Asian food but coming across this gem after landing in ATL, man was I surprised. The staff were very friendly. They have a new Thai menu and I ordered the crab fried rice from their new Thai menu and IT WAS SO GOOD. I give it a 8.5/10. Flavor, the amount of crab, the portions. Everything was great about it. We also ordered general tso chicken, tangerine chicken, and the seafood soup. All of it crunchy, sauced up, and great tasting. And it was all great pricing compared to San Diego. San Diego crab fried rice is usually $35-50. The ambiance is nice. The only thing I wished was the tables to be spread out from other tables. I feel like I was too close to other tables but luckily, it wasn't packed when we went.

Yelp
While I have more check-ins at this location, I can vouch slightly for this business, the menu options, and the first-class service! This is Not a hot or miss restaurant. The cooks work from their hearts. The staff and service team are committed to delivering the best possible experience. The owner is hands-on and can make your visit memorable. This is a peaceful place to visit. The lunchtime crowd is laid back, and the serene ambiance and the private booth space offer you the space necessary to eat without feeling rushed. You can order takeout if you run short of time; I recommend you call directly at 404-629-0007. This space is very close to my place of employment, and it's one of the reasons why I keep patronizing the location. Good food, friendly service, convenient location, 285 South Exit cm Cascade Rd. South Fulton GA

Yelp
Good location with free parking. Clean inside and friendly staff. The staff tend to be the same which is good in getting to know them and vice versa. Bar available or table seating. Also offers a small private room. Food is traditional Asian cuisine. All non spicy chicken dinners I can vouch are good. Simple drink menu but it has variety. Their white rice is truly sticky rice without any flavor.

Yelp
I've lived in this neighborhood for almost 8 years, and restaurant options are pretty limited. Mulan was just okay for me. The vegetable egg rolls came out burnt (though they didn't taste burnt), and the Mongolian chicken was fine but a little overcooked. The food was ready quickly, the service was good and cost $$ - $30 for lunch. Overall, I'd give it a 5/10.

Yelp
Great Food love the Sushi and Fried Rice! Drinks are also prettt great! Kind customer service aswell! Thanks Mulan :)

Yelp
I seen this place and wanted to try it. When I am in Houston . I could never find a good Chinese restaurant. I gave this one a shot cause I seen the egg foo young and it reminded me of my mom favorite meal. I decided to get shrimp fried rice lunch special and appetizer fried wings. I loved it. The wings were fresh and shrimp was a decent size and quantity. I went at lunch and it was great portion sizes. What I did NOT like was the spring rolls . The inside was over cooked and mushy. The outside had a great crust but I did not give a rating for spring rolls cause I know I wouldn't like it. I didn't like they did not have egg rolls so I went to another restaurant nearby for egg rolls. I will be back here until I find something else that catches my eye.

Yelp
Great food, great drink, and great fellowship! Mulans iis a small gem located on the southwest side of Atlanta, off Cascade Rd. I met one of my besties there. This chinese place offers some very good cuisines. Meat is not an option for me right now and they were still able to deliver! Our waiter, Adrian was by far outstanding! He gave me some good choices. I went with the egg drop soup and the "crispies" and the sesame tofu and vegetable fried rice. As always, I will be back thanks Mulan's!

Yelp
Broccoli and Beef, very good, seasoned well. Wait staff very polite and friendly. Restaurant is very nice.

Sarah J.

Yelp
I didn't know this gem was in my neighborhood. The atmosphere was nice. The band was good( not too loud), I was still able to talk and hear the people around. The servers was making it do what it do. I had Beef Mongolian, it was really good. It's like the Cheers bar on Cascade. Great vibe!

Bridget J.

Yelp
The food here was just mediocre. I've had better. It's good in a pinch. I can't say I will eat here again because there are better Asian restaurants to try.

simone B.

Yelp
Great food always! Great customer service. Check them out, hidden gem on Fairburn Rd.

Greta M.

Yelp
Local casual restaurant with friendly staff. Good cocktails with Asian style food. Reliable for eat-in or pickup/delivery.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood spot. Service is always good regardless of dining in or to go. Also, orders are completely fast with friendly service. My husband and I typically get the Pepper Steak, Shrimp fried rice, Red Snapper, crab ragoon, salmon kabobs, or General Tso are all good.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this restaurant. I actually went inside to place my order. I was told it would be completed in 20 minutes. I came back in 20 minutes and was told it wasn't ready. Another 20 minutes passed and it was finally ready. I checked the order and it was missing the two sushi rolls. I informed them and it took another 20 minutes for them to make the forgotten items. My to-go order included sesame chicken, tangerine chicken, sushi, and house lo mein. The two chicken dishes were not appetizing. They were both bland. The sushi was ok. The house lo mein was tasty. We enjoyed the lo mein. I don't think I will order from this restaurant again. I did not enjoy the service or dishes prepared from this establishment.

Lou Ann S.

Yelp
i ordered two dinner portions of shrimp fried rice ($14.95) during mid day and was given the lunch portion ($11.95) which will take only feed one person, however, I paid the dinner price. We I ask about the portion size the young man insisted that the portions were correct even though I had order the same portions many times before. i use to love their food but I will not continue to support businesses that rip you off!!

Dee H.

Yelp
Love all the new Thai menu that they have, great staff like always, especially the manager Evan always friendly & attentive. And the new decorations, very nice. Keep up the good work Mulan.

Yelp
Hands , Great place, great people/ staff, good food and drinks, very accommodating, great ambience My go to anytime place!! Thank you Mulan.

Yelp
Best seafood fried rice in the business Nice place for a lunch date Customer service is great.

Yelp
Late review. My family visited this restaurant for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was delicious and everything was fresh. We absolutely loved everything. We will definitely return to this restaurant.

Arianna W.

Yelp
Never been to a Chinese place where there aren't any entrees. Leaving you to buy rice and meat separate, basically making my own plate. 1 plate $30.

Yelp
Mulan is a great asian restaurant. Their service is ver good and their food is clean and fresh. I had the crispy duck (half) and I wish I would have order a whole duck. The night I went they had a DJ and the atmosphere was fun. Nice bar area also, although small. Definitely would go again.

Yelp
My go - to Chinese restaurant Everything is delicious Evan is the best bartender in the city ! My sister and I love Mulan
google avatar

Kathryn L.

Yelp
I wasn't on Yelp the last time I ate here Circa 2000, as Mulan still offers the same inviting, hospitable atmosphere & service. The menu offers both traditional & contemporary dishes from China, Thailand, Japan with various selections of appetizers, main courses, vegetables, soups & Sushi. Vegetarian/Vegan & Spa options are many. Seating is varied - Bar, Sushi Bar, main dining area, booths on one side, sunroom, private room & a patio, with the latter still closed. The open kitchen gives the customers an easy view to watch their meals being skillfully made while relaxing amongst the comfortable ambiance. It was interesting to learn that Chef Master John Kuan is still cooking in the kitchen as he'll come out & speak to anyone, even if your picture isn't on the wall. Our food didn't take long as we enjoyed our meal & the price point per portion. Our Server, Jay was great all around with his service.

Yelp
I have enjoyed the meals I have had there. I also like the ambiance. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a good Chinese restaurant in the Cascade area.

Yelp
Food was very good with a nice touch of spice. Portions were plenty and were fresh. I ordered in, but the transaction went well and prepared on time.

Yelp
This is a late review but we came in here during the pandemic. Sept. 2020. There was literally no one in there one weekend evening. I mostly saw people getting take out. We were fine with it. We enjoyed everything we ate. We originally came here for the sushi. I'm not a huge fan of sushi so I appreciated that there were many other options to choose from. I'd say it the food was on the higher end of Asian cuisine. Not sure what's been going on with the food reviews recently. I forget the sushi roll we had but the mister said it was delicious. I had the fried salmon bites with fried rice. It was sooooo yummy. We also had some spring rolls and egg drop soup I think. Service was quick and attentive. Again it was during the pandemic in a pretty empty restaurant. I will try them out again I'm sure.

Yelp
Back at my favorite local watering hole for some take out!!! Just consuming my favorite Basil

Yelp
Always a fan favorite for me. The spring rolls and food is good. Though the inside of for restaurant is a little dated I enjoyed the service when dining inside. it's always a good amount of people in there but not to bad. Been going there for years. Great for Vegans or Vegetarians.

Cheryl R.

Yelp
Excellent food, especially the Mongolian Beef. Also great are the House Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. Best Chinese food on Door Dash.
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
I like going here because the service is good, food is good and cooked to order and hassle free... Always consistent... Plenty of parking, wifi available, full bar... pretty reasonable price and big portions served.. I ordered the sesame chicken w/ the vegetable fried rice and side of egg rolls...

Yelp
I'll start with the drinks . The drink was okay but we couldn't get not one drink we suggested (sex on the beach or a spiced drink with coke ) was looking forward to the crab Rangoon it was filled with nothing with cream cheese and seems to be over fried . I ordered chicken Pao the rice was cold the chicken was as chewy and flavorless and there was no spice at all . I asked the hostess questions and she was polite but still rush us to order. I don't recommend

Tonya L.

Yelp
Attended a bridal shower yesterday at this location. The crab rangoon and the vegetable fried rice was excellent! Had a little hiccup with a charge on my card and the manager was prompt and attentive to the situation.

LaToya M.

Yelp
It's hard to find good Asian cuisine in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. I ordered the General Tso Chicken and a Lychee Martini. Food had a great taste. The server was nice and attentive, too.

Crystal R.

Yelp
Adding to my initial review: Ivan, I reported this to the Uber eats app that I used to place the order and left the same review on there as well. I'm glad that the individual who wrote on my order receipt has been terminated so that this will not happen to anyone else. The GM can contact me via email at crystalroberson@duck.com.

Yelp
Four years later, still premier Chinese food. The calamari, egg drop soup, and egg fu yung are my favs, but they're still producing quality food

Yelp
It's always a great food journey at Mulan Cascade. Nearly everything on the menu that I've tried is good, and the service is typically great. The atmosphere is good--relaxed but upscale. Yes, you'll pay more for your meal at Mulan, but it's definitely worth it. We're blessed to have a few Asian restaurants in the Cascade area that are good, and Mulan leads the charge.
google avatar

The Peezy's ..

Yelp
One of the pluses of staying near cascade is that they have a nice selection of eats to browse. We stumbled across this location because unfortunately our reservations at a nearby popular restaurant was given away. Cool beans that's why there are plenty of options available near by. We spotted this low key joy in a small plaza next to dominos and for use since we were hungry this was a home run. Very straight forward, seated us at the bar because they were low on servers. Food came out efficiently and we even were honored 2 free egg rolls for checking in on yelp! The Goodies Mongolian Salmon I wanted to try this dish because we tried the curry salmon almost 3 different times visiting here. This dish was tasty and plentiful with a sweet soy sauce and honey taste. Absolutely satisfying if you like honey soy. Personally We'd go with the Curry salmon over this dish but preference is key!! Salmon Curry Excellent dish which surprised us as it was better than going to a this is it and ordering salmon from their grill. You get a nice sized proportion cut salmon with a heap of sauce & rice. For the price it's a must try. Hi life rolls These were " just ok ". Had a ok flavor to it and had Pringle chip on top dressed like it was a sandwich lol. Avocado Rolls These babies gave us an extremely healthy feeling eating them. Cold, fresh , and the right amount to pair with any dish if you like avocados. Godzilla Roll This was more of a basic selection sushi roll that you would have at a kikus or Benihana's. Nothing special about these. Devil Roll We were satisfied with these because of the sauce that draped over these. Sauce reminded us of a ketchup and Mayo sauce ( we know it sounds nasty ) but it paired well with the salmon that was inside the roll. All in all this will be a spot we frequently visit. 4 out of 5 stars Easy.
google avatar

Saratan F.

Yelp
Friendly service. Not a large variety of sushi but food was still tasty. We often go after 7pm on a weekday and it's quiet. Decor is old school... white table cloths.
google avatar

Ms. T.

Yelp
Had dinner here last night for the first time. The Hennessy Margarita was on point. The sushi was delicious and beautiful and the seafood rice was loaded with seafood. Service was fast and professional. Will definitely be going back
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
The best that I've found so far. I live in Gwinnett and it's worth the ride! The food is great, nice portions and quality products! I don't have to search for the meat in my meal. My favorite spot!!
google avatar

Cassandra Tia H.

Yelp
So disappointed today. I wanted soup. So I decided to give their soups a try today. I've had other menu items without fail. But today fell below what I was expecting. As far as for taste and consistency. My order was The Velvety Crab and Corn soup. It was basically creamed corn and crab in a broth.I inquired before I placed my order of this soup was a cream base or broth base soup. I wanted a cream base with consistency of a chowder. It was NOT. After receiving and looking at it. It clearly was a broth based soup. ( My fellow yelper told me it was like egg drop soup. ) I shared with her..she said it wasn't bad but the corn was throwing the flavor off. I failed to take pic of the soup. I probably ate 5 spoonfuls and decided I didn't care for it AT ALL and threw it in the trash. Over $8 down the drain and I'm still HUNGRY!!! AND DISAPPOINTED.!!
google avatar

Nate T.

Yelp
Food is consistently good. Love the pineapple ginger chicken the best. Really good fried rice too.
google avatar

Tracey B.

Yelp
I ordered take out and while some of the other items were okay, my specific dish was not good at all. I ordered the Honey Glazed Pork Ribs and they were not at all what I expected. Ordinarily when I have gotten glazed pork ribs, they are a whole rib, with a seasoned red glaze. I received chopped up ribs with barely any meat on them swimming in sauce. Also there were bits of meat that were more like jerky than edible pork rib. I wish I took pictures. Don't order this if you are looking for a classic Chinese glazed ribs.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
Really convenient location to Cascade Heights with decent parking. I've been twice and both times I had great service and delicious food.

Yelp
Always good! Neighborhood favorite spot. The servers are always polite and the hostess always kind. My favorites Sushi roll is the super crunch roll. Always delicious.

Yelp
Good food 8/10, Service 7/10, Ambiance 5/10. The main dishes is good disliked their egg roll. Also quite pricey..

Yelp
It was nice and super affordable I feel like the staff was super accommodating to everything I needed and the food was good
