Where to Eat the Best Dumplings in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"This hole-in-the-wall spot in Carrollton turns out soup dumplings and Xiao Long Bao worth writing home about. And even better news? Mulan has a dim sum menu, too." - Rachel Pinn

Worse Chinese food I ever had. Beef is so dry and salty. Port is even worse… I could go to Panda Express to get better dishes…. Meat is not fresh. No one wants to eat it. I had to go to other place to pickup dinner.

Jessica M

Google
Juicy dumplings were good. Orange beef was way too overpowering with orange zest. Crab Rangoons and hot and sour soup were the star of the show. These little pan fried bao buns were delicious.

Sandy Lee

Google
A small Chinese restaurant which is actually quite good. The place is modern, comfortable with lots of noodles and dumpling options. There are also good variety of entrees as well. The sweet and sour chicken and braised tofu were delicious. Soup dumplings were not bad. Glad we discovered this restaurant today.

Google
Loved the name so had to try it out! Also, any Chinese restaurant that have soup dumblings, I am going to try them! Their pork soup dumplings were good but their crab soup dumplings were phenomenal! I would have to say that it was the perfect wrapper, filling, soup ratio! And they had chili oil that actually was flavorful for dipping along with vinegar and soy sauce. Now the curry dry noodles were overly salty and the pork belly didn’t have great flavor or texture. Also, the soups were very salty. But the dumplings are a must!

Google
Got our first order to go and was pleasantly surprised! The food was really good and their egg rolls were really good. At first glance I thought they looked a little heavy but, a cautious bite revealed they were very light and tasty. Never experienced that before and it'll become a standard addon to any future order. Highly recommend!!

Google
Wow. Very impressed with the flavor, portion size, and selection of food from Mulan Noodle and Grill. I ordered the lunch version of the Jalapeno Stir Fry Chicken (with fried rice and hot & spicy soup). It came with two potstickers and one egg roll. It was a TON of food. I ate the whole thing and should have split it into two portions. When they say "spicy," they really mean spicy. Not so overwhelming hot, but the plastic is present. The spice doesn't overpower the depth of flavor. I would eat here again and j would recommend this place.

Google
Very clean place. Scallion pancakes were nicely crispy but did not have enough scallion taste. The rest of the dishes were average. I do not recommend Kung Pao chicken as the chicken were just too soft and rubbery.

Background: I am in no means am expert in noodles, but I do love me some hand pulled noodles. I've been looking for a replacement of Xian noodles in Austin in DFW. And I think I've found the place. Food: The noodle dish I got was really good. The noodles tasted fresh and the broth was light and flavorful. The portion size was pretty big and the food here is SUPER cheap. So for the quality and quantity that you get, it's DEFINITELY worth the money. Quality is A+. Atmosphere: I came here during the night and it was very well lit. Bright and the interior is clean. Doesn't feel dirty at all. The entire front side of the restaurant is glass, so I'd imagine it has nice natural lighting during the day. Overall, I really like this place and hope to visit again soon.

Yelp
I ate here a year ago and my review is the same :) still the best fresh vegetarian dumplings in DFW area. The vinegar/sugar dipping sauce complements well the dumplings. The husband got the Asian salt & pepper chicken wings and says it is tasty.

Yelp
Food: fantastic. Dumplings were on point. They season their fillings with soy sauce (filling is darker than most) so it can be salty for some. Just remember that before dunking it more soy sauce. Service: we were the first people there on a Saturday so we got plenty of attention. They use an online menu but the waitress came over to enter our order on an iPad. Ambience: pretty basic with clean bathrooms. Only comment is their paneling was installed with staples so they are not attached well. It is on the outskirts of k-town in a large shopping center with a Kroger. That shouldn't discourage you from give it a try as the food was tasty.

Yelp
This is our go to place when we visit our kids in Carrollton! The food is prepared expertly! We're especially fond of the pork fried dumplings! Service is prompt and friendly! Casual dining...great take out!

Yelp
I tried out Mulan Noodle and Grill while in the area but picked up the order to go since they were about to close the dining room in the late afternoon between lunch and dinner. Things weren't too busy with only a handful of other patrons picking up to go orders while I waited and noone dining in at the time. I ordered the Pork Juicy Steamed Dumplings (6 pieces ~$12) as well as the Pork belly gravy noodle (~$15). The dumplings were really good but not really a full meal on their own. The pork belly was a little salty for my tastes but overall it was an enjoyable meal. This place seem pretty solid overall. It's always nice to have another option for good dumplings too. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

Yelp
I had the beef noodle soup and it was pretty good. I added some chilis and a little soy sauce. Also their soup dumplings were absolutely delicious. I might consider coming back just for them. The place was really quiet on a Tuesday night so don't be afraid to stop in if you want to grab a quick bite.

Yelp
Mulan is a great place for super reliable Chinese food. I recommend getting the dumplings or noodles when coming here, as they're made in-house and nothing beats fresh dumplings or noodles. The interior is very modern and casual, great for a quick lunch or dinner spot. The service is quick and helpful.

Yelp
Food was interestingly different and didn't taste that great. Overall, not a place I would come back to. For appetizers, we got the pork, shrimp, and chives dumpling and pan fried pork buns. The dumpling skin was a weird brown and reddish color, which wasn't the most appetizing looking. The dumpling itself tasted okay, but not something I would ever get again. The pan fried pork buns were better. Somehow, there was soup inside of it, so be careful when you bite. I got the Mapo Tofu for my entree. It came with one bowl of white rice. This one tasted kinda weird. For some reason, they used some black bean sauce, which isn't how it's normally made, so it was very strong in black bean flavor.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here on NYE. Unfortunately not great food. We threw it out. Had ordered here in the past but it's been at least a year if not two since we are here more regularly. Beef flat noodle was oily and beef not tender. Hot and sour soup was stale. Orange chicken my kids enjoyed, as well as the scallion pancake. Moo goo gai pan had canned mushrooms. Couldn't even pretend to make it through the meal or eat the canned mushrooms. I was shocked. And, for $70 I am happy to pay for quality ingredients; this however did not fit that bill. Have eaten the soup dumplings before, I don't know if it's just gone down hill or if they're under new management. But we were disappointed.

Yelp
Overall solid food! I got beef noodle soup to go and was pretty pleased. I usually reserve 5 stars for amazing food and service but this place still deserves a solid 4 as I had a good experience. The inside is nice and clean and I'll have to stop by to dine in next time.

Yelp
Great noodle textures, and I like that the broth for the soupy noodles and seasoning for the dry noodles are not overly salty. The beef noodle soup came in a generously sized bowl, but still expensive at $15.50. Their dumplings are made in-house and tasted fresh, but the skin is very thick and the texture was dry and under-steamed. My biggest pet peeve is that for a noodle spot, their noodles are NOT made in-house. When we inquired, the waitress sheepishly looked away to avoid eye contact and said "because of covid." For a March 2023 visit, this is such a deceiving excuse.. just admit it's cheaper to source the noodles in bulk from a third-party supplier.

Yelp
The three of us ordered the following: pork fried juicy buns, eggplant with garlic sauce, sauteed string beans, flat noodles with beef (chow fun), and the mushu shrimp. With the exception of the mushu dish, which we thought was just average (the dish had too much sauce and was salty, especially if you spread hoisin sauce on the pancakes), the other four dishes were all excellent. Each dish was full of flavor, freshly prepared, and the presentation was appealing and vibrant. Prices are very reasonable and the service is very friendly and responsive. The restaurant is kept bright, is super clean, and is nicely decorated. We will return to try the other menu items soon.

Yelp
came here with my family, and we were very disappointed. it was empty around noon, which we should've noticed. the service is really nice and the staff seems sweet. unfortunately the food is not great ): we got the beef noodle soup and vermicelli beef soup. the vermicelli beef soup had crumbs of beef, basically no beef at all. the beef noodle soup was also not very good and $16. we got the soup dumplings too, and my parents and i both tasted a sour taste - as if the meat had gone bad, not sure if this is true, but we didn't even finish the 6 soup dumplings. i got the egg custard buns which i enjoyed, points for the buns and service. would not come again. also when my parents came here in 2019, my mom got food poisoning and threw up, however we gave it another try since we heard it changed owners. overall ): beef noodle should have beef visible in it, and the soup dumplings didn't taste fresh.

Yelp
GREAT dumplings I'm a B I G Fan their dumplings, price is a bit high for 6 of them but it's fine since they are hand made I can't complain I can't make these this perfectly and these are some tasty handmade freshness! Side note; I ordered their side beef soup not that much a fan to oily and not much flavor, but last time i ordered the egg drop soup and that is still favorite soup to get here. WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. Thank you for the deliciousness Mulan Noodle & Grill

Yelp
The best dumplings I've ever had! Made by Grandma and quite tasty. Easy to order online and made to order

L B.

Yelp
I love the crispy duck. Unfortunately, they are not consistent on the portions. One time you get what I'd consider a normal sized duck, the next time you get a much smaller one for the same exact price. When you bring this to attention you get the explanation that "its not as much meat because the duck is small". Yeah, I get that but the price remains the same. Also there are time to where they refry the duck. Basically an old order and to re-serve it to someone, just throw it in the fryer again to heat it up. This in turn makes for a very dry very chewy duck. Its about a 70% chance you'll get a great tasting dish and a 30% chance you will get either a very small dish or a very dry one. Note that I would consider myself an expert on this dish from that establishment as that's all I would order once every week for about the past 6 months. There is no consistency in the quality.

Yelp
This place was so yummy! Service was great and our waitress was attentive. Their beef flat noodle was delicious and my favorite. We ordered family style and got a variety of food. I would say my only complaint is that the portions were too small to share for 3 people.
google avatar

Gracie L.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken rice noodles. They were ok, but very salty(guessing msg?) The hubby got Milan Noodle soup and didn't like it. Beat was tough and dry and it was in soup??? The spring rolls were very doughy. The soup dumplings were good. Service was good. I wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Patricia W.

Yelp
fitst time ordering so we ordered lunch specials of Sesame Chicken and Kung Poa Shrimp. Came with 2 fried dumplings a spring roll and soup. Food was very good. i like that all their chicken is white meat which is important to me. i would highly recommend ordering from here.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Noodles were really overcooked and mushy. They also tasted RAW on the inside which is completely baffling me. DO BETTER.

Mike P.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Monday-evening, really great flavors and service. Nice quiet place with friendly staff

Yelp
Authentic hand pulled chinese noodles, we come here whenever we want something a bit more lighter than Wu Wei Din. The Mulan Beef noodle soup is probably the best thing in their menu, although they used to have this hot oil scallion chicken dish in limited quantities and it was very good. Service is pretty good, we often get takeout from here too. Great lunch spot if you're looking for something quick and tasty!

Yelp
This was an hour drive for us and it was worth it. Not very many places that have real soup dumplings. Not only do they have soup dumplings, but they have a wide assortment of steamed buns and noodles. I was extremely excited to see the Stir Fried Rice Noodles. On the menu because those are my favorite and I usually only see those at the Chinese buffets that we no longer frequent because the quality of the food has just gone downhill. They had a seafood option, so I got shrimp as my protein. The real treat was the sesame sweet cakes. I haven't had anything like it before, and I just loved it. The hubs went with Sweet and Sour soup, the juicy meat dumplings and stir fried rice noodles with beef. Sweet and Sour soup was flavorful and plenty of tofu. The soup dumplings were piping hot when they came to the table and my husband almost burnt off the top layer of his tongue because he just couldn't wait to try them. I wish this place wasn't an hour away. When we are really craving soup dumplings we will be making the drive.

Yelp
The food is good and doesn't feel too heavy. But the price is a bit more costly for what it is.

Yelp
Clean modern decor & tasty food - just a tad on the expensive side! Not bad for Chinese food in Carrollton! Recommended: - Fried Juicy Buns: loved the crispy bottom part and the filling was tasty and definitely juicy! The filling was just a little softer than the traditional buns so the buns didn't have much shape and could taste a little mushy, but nevertheless still delicious! Could be a little light in taste for some who love intense flavors! Sadly there are only 3 in each order! - Juicy Steamed Dumplings: these were also delicious, a tad salty but still delicious and juicy! Thinly wrapped, better than the ones at Wuweiding in Plano! - Mulan Hand Pull Noodle: a lot of people said this dish lacked flavor, but I actually think the flavor was perfect, loved the flavor! Noodles still had a nice chew to them and they were generous with the beef. Just wished these came with a little veggie like bokchoy! Others: - Beef Stir Fry Flat Rice Noodle: a little too salty & oily. Also, the portion may be too small for some! Overall, not a terrible dish, but not up my alley - I think the same dish at Canton Chinese Restaurant in Richardson is better! Overall, this place was a nice surprise and definitely worth a try!

Yelp
I've been looking for a place with Xiao Long Bao & fried pork buns since moving from Seattle to Dallas. We tried the Xiao long bao with pork first. The dough was a bit thin so it was hard to keep the juice inside the dumpling. Next we tried the fried pork buns with shrimp and pork. Unfortunately the shrimp wasn't deveined and was hard to eat. Lastly we tried the Mulan beef soup noodles that were good. The noodles were fresh but the broth needed a bit more flavor (added hot chili oil). The quality of the food was good, but priced too high (similar to higher quality Taiwanese restaurants, such as Din Tai Fung).

Yelp
Food is delicious and the waitress is so sweet! Recommend the steamed juicy pork dumplings
google avatar

Yelp
My daughter and I came here to try the soup dumplings and they were so good! We ordered a bunch of different buns and dumplings and made a meal out of it. I love everything that we tried. I will go back and order all of that again...and probably more. My daughter loved the steamed pork buns so much she got an order to go. The bread was pillowy soft. The sweet sesame cakes was definitely a great way to finish off an already delicious meal. Can't wait to go back to eat more of those delicious buns and dumplings

Yelp
Mulan Noodle & Grill caught my eye when I was browsing through a Facebook foodie group. Multiple people stated that they had excellent soup dumplings. As a soup dumpling connoisseur, I decided to try Mulan out. Atmosphere & Service: The environment had a modern feel with earthy tones. I was particularly impressed with this fact since most Chinese establishments look more traditional. The comfort of the chairs were lacking though. We had a female waitress that had trouble keeping up with the customers, I believe she was the only one working the front at that time. Food: Our group ordered the lunch special that included the mooshu beef, hot and sour soup, with an extra order of egg drop soup. In addition, we ordered the pan fried pork buns, shrimp and pork juicy soup dumplings, juicy pork soup dumplings, and their house special Mulan beef broth noodle soup. The noodles were a bit oily and tasted okay (no amazing wow factor here). The soup dumplings also tasted bland and easily broke while picking up. The vinegar sauce to dip the dumplings in was missing the tart that is usually associated with it. All of the food tasted like it had too much MSG and salt since at the end of our visit we were very thirsty for water. Final thoughts: Mediocre place to get soup dumplings if you don't want to drive further down to Plano to fulfill your craving. I hope they hire more staff!

Yelp
We are lucky this restaurant is less than 10 minutes away from our house. Our favorites are the pork juicy steamed dumplings, Mulan beef soup noodles, sesame chicken, and the crispy duck.

Yelp
Love their soup dumplings, really all their dumplings! And amazing hand pulled noodles!!

Yelp
I love this place for their authentic Chinese food & friendly staff. My honey ordered a bowl of Mulan beef noodle soup, & we planned to share it. The waitress kindly offered a small bowl so we can share it easier. What great customer service!
google avatar

Yelp
The Mongolian beef is bland and not good. It was also $14.51. Ridiculous overpriced. It listed as $10.45 on menu so idk why it came out to be $14 but I paid and left. The flavor wasn't Mongolian flavor. It was just stir fry beef with onion. Mongolian beef doesn't have onion btw. I do not recommend it
google avatar

Yelp
What you see is what you get. I had been here for take out in the midst of COVID in 2020 and it wasn't very good. I decided to give them another try to see if things have improved. I got the beef noodle soup which is their specialty. The noodles are hand made and we're perfectly cooked. The soup is exactly what is in the pic: sliced beef in broth with noodles and a bit of fresh cilantro and a splash of sesame oil to finish it. Kind of bland but I added chili paste and a bit of soy to jazz it up a bit. It was good and filling but a bit pricey at over $14 for a bowl of soup. Sodas are in bottles so no refills. Service was friendly but not overly attentive. The restaurant was very clean.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Chinese food "." Lo mein noodles are spot on. Chinese string beans and cabbage are fantastic. The spring rolls, dim sum eggplant...everything is great. You cannot go wrong!

Yelp
It's waaaaay past due but I'm reviewing now that I have the time to get all the details in! Hands down the best Xiao Long Baos in town. That right there should tell you all you need to know about this place. But don't worry, I won't stop there! Walking in, you are immediately greeted by super friendly staff to a clean and refreshing restaurant. The atmosphere is casual yet elevated. We were sat at a half booth (we needed room for all the food we were anticipating to order). Top 3 dishes: Juicy Steamed Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) - $8.45 for pork On the pricier side but it beats driving 45 min for a decent XLB. Juicy, meaty pockets of heaven. Scallions Oil Dry noodle - $8.45 This dish was a perfect combination of flavors - mixing the umami of sesame with the light seaweed crunch. A new thing to try for you adventurers! Scallion Pancake - $3.95 A great deal for an appetizer! Now I'm pretty biased since my mom can throw down a mean scallion pancake but it's a decent substitute. Take a date here, meet up with friends, treat yourself to some delicious, authentic Chinese food. Try it out!

Yelp
Food was not tasty and was very greasy. Maybe they had a bad day? We won't order from them again unfortunately.
google avatar

Mileena D.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It's not located in Ktown, but maybe that is an advantage. I ordered Xiao Long Bao and an order of Flat Noodles. The soup dumplings were so flavorful and delicious, had plenty of soup, and they had just the right sauce you need. Soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil to taste. My flat noodles had great flavor, however their portions are really tiny. Typically the nicer the interior, the less portion and the more you pay. I guess you pay for that premium. I will say staff is not really attentive as I had to wave them down multiple times to either pay or get a to go box. The entire "check out" process took at least 20 minutes alone.
google avatar

Sherene A.

Yelp
Ok. I ordered the beef flat noodle and the beef soup in clear broth. So. Much. Oil. Like after I ate, I could pour the oil out of the container. And the spoon I put in the soup that came with the utensils turned bright yellow and the oil just sort of settled on the top. Yikes.
google avatar

Carol W.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was the best we've tasted in a long time, maybe ever. The Crab Rangoon was full of evenly distributed cream cheese mixture. It was fried to perfection and since this was a pick-up order, they punctured holes in the container so that they were still crispy when we got them home (nice touch!). The Mongolian Beef was a cut above everywhere else with the red peppers. The Chicken Stir Fry Rice Noodle was extra tasty and provided three meals. The prices are absolutely worth it! This was the best food (that we didn't make) that we've had in many years. And I had immediate respect for their cleanliness when I walked in and saw they were properly masked.
google avatar

Yelp
Small place but delicious food. Located in a shopping center. Pork soup dumpling was piping hot, full of flavor. Made to order. Pan fried soup dumpling was also good. I definitely recommen both! Beef flat noodles is a good amount to share with two people if you are planning to share other items. Otherwise it'll fill you up if you don't plan to eat anything else! Loved the pulled noodles. Taste sooo good. Meat wasn't chewy. I can't wait to return!

Yelp
Friend found this place by chance and we went on Monday night for dinner. Place is pretty, clean, with friendly staff, and good service. The menu has several options for vegetarians and the prices are reasonable. I ordered veg pan fried dumplings and veg stir fry rice noodles, both were delicious. I would go back.

Yelp
Pretty solid noodle & dumpling shop that's a bit more conveniently located for us than our favorite place in Irving. We ordered a beef lo mein, pork & crab soup dumplings, juicy pork buns, and a scallion pancake. The noodles were very fresh, a little al dente, and not greasy which was a huge plus as a lot of places put a ton of grease in their lo mein. The beef was tender and tasty. I'd definitely order this again. The scallion pancake was great; the serving size wasn't too huge which is good because it's a bit of a greasy dish by design, but I pretty much scarfed down my half and was like, "are you gonna eat that?" for the other half. The dumplings and pork buns were both very good. The flavor profile was a little different than our usual place, and of the two, I prefer the other a little. But I could pick up lunch from here on a workday, and I can't do that from the other place, and the difference between the two is small not huge. So absolutely still worth visiting. The place was empty when we arrived very early on a Friday before the dinner rush, and our food was ready quite quickly. Prices were quite reasonable for the cuisine/quality/portion sizes.

Yelp
AUTHENTIC SOUP DUMPLINGS! Need I say more? It's amazing and the aesthetic is very modern. Looks like it's run by a small family, which I love!
google avatar

Yelp
A goodbplace to get your soup dumplings and noodles fix. Noodles have great texture and taste.. An easy atmosphere as you watch them make noodles. Service can be a little slow but not too annoying unless the person you are with gets hangry. My star rating scale 1 - Stay home and cook or go fast 2 - You are buying AND I am crazy hungry 3 - Decent or I am hungry 4 - Tasty - Yum Yum! 5 - Is this manna from heaven!?!

Yelp
This place is great. I am happy we stumbled upon this place. The scallion pancakes are fresh and authentic, ask for a side of dumpling sauce for dipping if you are into that. The hand pulled noodles are super tasty, too. Above all, the soup dumplings are a must. I recommend coming here and want to try out their whole menu on future visits. The wait staff are friendly, attentive and efficient.

Yelp
Cute little place! Crab Rangoons are to die for beef flat noodle is sooo yummy and the chicken steamed dumplings are perfect. Totally recommend!
google avatar

Truc L.

Yelp
The fried juicy buns are the best here: very crispy in the bottom, the soup and meat a very flavorful and juicy. 5/5 Soup dumplings are good. 4/5 It was quite a long wait 20-30 mins when the restaurant was not busy.

Linda P.

Yelp
Great food, always fresh and ready when they say it will be! Love the chicken and shrimp dishes!
google avatar

Lillian L.

Yelp
Staff wear masks and there are hand sanitizers at the front entry. It was a Friday afternoon. Place wasn't busy. It was our table and another table. There seemed to be just one waiter. The waiter took our orders pretty fast, Food arrived fairly quickly, and he was attentive to refills. Food was authentic. Lots of options to choose from. There is a range of dumplings options. It is on the pricier range compared to other places in DFW but I enjoyed the different varieties that it has compared to others. My favorite is the Shanghai wonton soup. Broth was flavorful and the wonton is just so delicious! Sesame cake was good. Egg yolk buns were yummy. Crispy duck is a must! It is a half portion and they do offer that at lunchtime. Ma fu tofu was pretty good. Our pork pan fried dumplings were too burnt on the bottom that i could taste and smell the char. Soup dumplings didn't come with the ginger and vinegar. It fell apart too easily. Crab rangoon was alright. Another star lost bc a young staff was sleeping at the front desk and seemed annoyed I disturbed her to ask for to go boxes which took a while to get bc she went into the kitchen to call our waiter to get them instead. I guess the to go boxes next to her at the front are meant for other things. I'm a generous tipper. I almost did not want to tip but thinking of our waiter, I still did.

Yelp
I've passed by this place all the time since I normally grab groceries next door but given dinner plans fell through at the other place we were going, we finally stopped by here. And all in all its ok - the food tastes like something that you would get at home, whether it be stir fried noodles or noodle soup or dumplings. Best thing here is definitely the pan fried pork buns. Bursting with soup with a chewy and slightly thick skin, and porky filling, it's a basically a soup dumpling with a pliable textural golden contrast. I could eat these all day for sure! The rest of the food is per average though - beef noodle soup is on the fattier side, though a little bland without some chili oil (and even that is mild here...). The hand pulled noodles have for chew and on the thin side - other places I've been give you options on your noodle thickness but guess here it's just thin. Veggie stir fried rice noodles are thin noodles that are slightly sweet and savory and taste a lot better than they look. Portion sizes are good. But while the food is decent, I think the price is probably about 30% more than what I would expect to pay for it, especially considering the other restaurants around that are comparable, so that makes it hard to say it's more than ok. Serviceable for sure but probably not my first choice in the future. Service was also kinda slow despite being the only patrons in the restaurant.
