Where to Drink a Guinness in the Indianapolis Area This Winter | Eater

"Since 1981, this Carmel Arts and Design District pub has been bringing the Irish spirit with good conversation, plenty of Guinness, and food fusing Midwestern sensibilities with the Emerald Isle. Start with skewered fried cheese before trying the Irish stew made with the famous stout, or warm your toes at the fire while enjoying a pint. You can even give back while you’re at Muldoon’s: The owners started a non-profit donating free care packages to human and canine cancer patients called Wally’s Smile, and donations are accepted at the eatery." - Brian Garrido

I finally had the chance to try Muldoon's, and I was pleasantly surprised. The interior was cozy and inviting with a large, well-stocked bar and plenty of seating. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with a mix of regulars and newcomers. I ordered the lunch special, a personal-sized ham and mushroom pizza, which was absolutely delicious. The crust was thick and chewy, and the sauce was flavorful. I also enjoyed chatting with a friendly regular at the bar. If you're looking for a welcoming neighborhood spot with good food and drinks, Muldoon's is definitely worth checking out." ******* So I brought someone back for a dinner pizza, and we had the "Muldoon's Special" and a couple of cokes. As before, the pizza was very tasty, and our waitress, Shelby, was attentive. Our experience here was great, and we will definitely be returning.

Had a fantastic time at Muldoons! - the cocktails were creative and perfectly balanced, the bartenders Beth and Niki went above and beyond to make sure we had a great night. A group of us went on a Saturday night for a beach themed party and they even had Karaoke! Highly recommend if you need a night out!

Google
I stopped in Thursday night for some quick bar food, and ended up staying for 2 hours of trivia. The place was pretty busy, but the bartenders were on top of it ....The overall atmosphere was very chill and welcoming...Even the obnoxious man that was hanging over the bar, because he wanted to play his lottery numbers couldn’t ruin the all around good vibes of the staff. The evening was full of entertainment. Not only did I have fun playing trivia, I had a blast laughing at the antics of the table of regulars that were sitting behind me.. I'll definitely be back at Muldoons, the next time I'm in town.

Google
Went out of town for a girls trip the atmosphere was wonderful food was great. Karaoke was so much fun. The bartenders I believe were Niki and Beth super sweet and nice. Can’t wait to take another girls trip down there. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR EVERYONE.

If you go there you have to try the Richie Rich, one of the best wraps I've ever had!!

Google
Muldoon's is an average bar with some fun game nights and karaoke on Saturdays. Some of the audience wasn't really into the Karaoke, but it was definitely enjoyable with a good group of people. The service is okay, but it was really busy on a Saturday night. The food is okay as well, the cheese enchiladas were alright - not the best but I'm glad they had some good variety on their menu!

Due to the closing of our regular go to hang out we decided to venture out a bit and ended up at Midtown's. We lucked out stopping by and enjoying a great night out. For having a small foot print the layout is well used with a mixture of booths, high top tables, a long bar as well as other seating and entertainment areas including 2 pool tables. After taking a booth we were quickly greeted by friends personable staff. After a quick look at the menu and a less than short wait we not only had our drink orders but food in a less than average time. The diverse crowd makes everyone feel just as welcome as the staff. The food was more than expected and a nice surprise. We also were lucky to have the live entertainment of Bill Farmer playing a solo acoustic set of a mix of country, classic rock, and even some crowd requests. Despite the smaller size of the rest rooms they were well maintained. I suggest Million's for a quick drink, a nice dinner, or even a few games of pool in a relaxed atmosphere.

Yelp
Been here with groups of 8+ people multiple times. Staff have all been great, keeping food and drinks flowing. Good atmosphere, reasonable prices and a wide menu selection. Thursday trivia gets busy, but that doesn't stop the fun! They are better at accommodating large gatherings compared to other local bars, but still have small tables for a more intimate meal.

Yelp
just very worn down and gross inside, the waitress told me they needed to do a pre authorization charge on my card because it was past 11, just super inconvenient on a $30 bill took 5 days for them to clear it. ordered pretzels and they were so oily and hard. just a all around 0/10. my waitress was nice and attentive at least that's the only thing good i have to say.

J F.

Yelp
Ive been to this bar a few times in the past, and have enjoyed myself almost every time. The wait staff is amazing, nice, and rather quick. It was no different a couple days ago, but my grief was the atmosphere! It was so incredibly hot, fans were blowing, doors were open. Found out the AC has been dead for weeks! Nobody was able to say there was a plan for the AC to be fixed. I feel bad for those that work there, and was surprised to see anyone in that bar. Plenty of other bars to go to with working AC.

Katherine M.

Yelp
Rude bartenders, food isn't edible . Dirty draft lines when have they been cleaned?? The beer on Tap isn't good gives you a stomach ache. The bar tender came to us and asked that we pay her on venmo that we didn't have to pay our tab just tip her nicely. Thought that was strange. Karaoke sucks there and the regulars that are in there are creepy! Bathrooms smell awful don't eat either it will upset your stomach for days.

Ruth S.

Yelp
All in all the service is pretty good. Sometimes you have to wait a long time to get served, but I think that's because they might be a little shorthanded. The food is good and the several times I've been there everything I have ordered was good. They have a Nice atmosphere and a hands-on owner and a great sports bar.

Volkan S.

Yelp
Service and food are great! The atmosphere is very relaxing. Very few times did I ever not enjoy myself while going there on a Friday and Saturday night.
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
Drink only service. Overall the place was enjoyable. My party played pool and darts while drinking water and other beverages. The atmosphere was fun and enjoyable. They had a live band followed by a dj. Would recommend for a night out with bar type wants. The only negative was the waitress tried to overcharge us for the number of beverages consumed. Giving her the benefit of the doubt we left on good terms, but just make sure you are being charged for what you order.

Yelp
Food is really good. Service is amazing especially the two amazing lady's that work on Sundays Angie and Shelby. I usually go up there for the free pool on sunday. But it's really makes my day being greater by these two amazing galls. If you haven't visited you totally should.

Greg T.

Yelp
Cool bar and atmosphere but the food is terrible.Pizza and burgers are good.Got the sour cream burtito gross ,pretzel bits were hard and the chesse was runny.CK Diggs is a mile away great food your welcome.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Food is great and the service is friendly. Prices are reasonable. Great pour on the wine and the draft beers are cold and tasty!!! Thanks

Vicki H.

Yelp
A decent place with decent food. I come here for lunch during the week. The food is cheap and taste good for the price. I've never had a meal that I didn't enjoy. The staff is friendly and remembers my group when we go.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Good was disgusting last night. Side salad lettuce was limp, like the salad had been made and put in the fridge for a few days. The tacos were reminiscent of Taco Bell ground beef (nasty) but way saltier; were barely room temperature. I can usually eat like a truck driver, but didn't finish my meal. I'd never eat here again. Karaoke is the draw, NOT the food.
google avatar

Clare R.

Yelp
Why did I come here?!?! Wanted to watch Saturday night NFL and then it turned 10pm. Karaoke started and omg!! I couldn't stand it!! It's a joke. Not one good singer..... maybe 2 but the list was so long that it took forever for them to come back around. Ordered chicken wings and they were cooked well done like we liked. The beer was cold. They waitress was good. That's why I gave this place 2 stars. I won't be returning any time soon.

Yelp
I came here yesterday for trivia, and it was PACKED, so bear that in mind when reading this review. It was my first time at Muldoon's, so I'm not sure how the restaurant is normally. First obstacle when I arrived was parking - the (small-ish) lot was almost completely full. I have a medium-ish sized car (Honda Accord) but couldn't fit in to the one spot that was left, so I had to reverse-park into it. Second obstacle when I arrived was that my trivia team (7 people) was already seated, and there were no chairs to be found. Muldoon's has about half "regular" tables (low chairs) and half barstool-type tables (high tops), and it would have been SUPER awkward had I had to grab a high-top chair to sit at the table with, so I was glad when someone finally located me a chair, as I had spent a few minutes roaming the restaurant trying to find one. I ended up trying a Griffin Claw Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA - which unfortunately was too strong for me, so I only drank like 1/4 of it - and the sliders, which come with chips unless you upgrade to fries. The sliders are reasonably priced ($6.50, as is a regular burger there) and although they weren't anything spectacular, they were tasty. Their drink pricing tends to run all over the place, which is strange - my beer was $4.75 and was on tap (and they have some interesting Michigan brews on tap, like Bell's Two Hearted), but a friend's soft drink was $3, I saw, which seemed really pricey - usually soft drinks are like $2-3 at most places I go, and it's only usually $3 at places like Granite City. I saw another's iced tea was $2.25, too, so I'm not sure why that was cheaper. I'd come back to Muldoon's for trivia but I'd make sure to get there early next time, so as to avoid any chair or parking snafus again.

Yelp
If you are a regular customer your good to go. Bartenders not very attentive to your needs, I have been here twice now and I am not impressed. Food sub par but like I said if you live in the area and not visiting your good.

Yelp

Yelp
Came a late night with a friend for a drink, and was not disappointed. Friday Night, kinda empty, but great service. I ordered a blue moon, and they went ahead and brought me my order with an slice of orange. Can't complain, will come again for Trivia night sometime!

Yelp
First time visiting out of curiosity vs a referral. Draft beer was delivered at room temperature as well as the glass. Manger blamed on defective equipment. Then why serve it? Ordered steak bites. Med rare. Delivered to table well done. Second batch delivered Med. strike 2 now. Pizza came with out plates delivered. Enjoyed a mediocre pizza on my napkin until plates were later that eve my wife became violently ill. Could only be from this food. Place would be a great episode for bar rescue. Until that airs will never return here. Lots of better places near by that are consistently good.

Sheri G.

Yelp
Check your bill from this place! 70$. For small pizza, salad and 3 draft beers Ridiculous- no itemized bill Can charge you anything Will not go back

Yelp
Great staff, yummy food and clean bar. Can't ask for much more. Everyone is friendly and the drinks are good. Karaoke nights Wednesdays and Saturday's are always entertaining. Awesome neighborhood bar if you're looking for a casual but fun night.

Yelp
I came here one Wednesday night a while ago at the insistance of my friend Dan. I haven't returned because of the distance to the place, but I had a great time. Muldoon's is a bar. It's a typical bar that serves food, fried food, with lots of televisions, beer signs and alcohol. The atmosphere was typical, but clean. The service was nice and friendly. The prices are reasonable. The menu is quite large and there is a lot of variety. In addition, there are food specials every night. The menu consisted of pizza, nachos, fried food, etc. It's your typical bar fare. One item that stood out was a hamburger where the bun was replaced with two grilled cheese sandwiches. It sounded disgusting, delicious and gigantic. I didn't order it, but I'd like to see someone eat it one day. The night we were there (Wednesday) was a Karaoke night. The karaoke hostess was on top of everything and was very nice. The karaoke was decent but friendly. There was a range from amazing singer to tone-deaf. It seems like there are a lot of regulars who participate in the karaoke. If you're in the area make you you check out Muldoon's. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Yelp
This place is great if you like dirty draft lines. Food that gives you Diarrhea and waitresses that don't even know what bottled beer they are selling or what a IPA is. If you want to waste you're time and money and ensure disappointment this is the spot for you. If you came to this bar before reading this I feel bad for you and if you didn't go to this bar because you read this you are welcome.

Amy R.

Yelp
First of all, let me start by saying Ally is amazing! She is so personable and greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. Food was good, beer was cold.

Edward B.

Yelp
One of our favorite bars in the area. We are big fans of their mushroom-swiss burger and the street tacos. Have always had a good waitress. As we don't really drink we don't get here enough but when we do we are always glad we came.
google avatar

Yelp
Muldoon's is good, I often stop after work and drink with the regulars, the prices are good and the food is ok. I wouldn't drive far to come here but if I'm in the neighborhood I will stop in.

Yelp
Not all that impressive on my second visit. Service was great but the food left alot to be desired. I had the sour cream beef burritos and you could tell they sat for awhile before it got to me. The food was at best room temperature.

Yelp
My wife and I recently moved to Auburn Hills and looking for a new local bar for beers and Keno while watching sports. We have no kids so we go out about 4-5 times a week and spend a considerable amount of money. The first time we tried this bar we had a great experience. Ever since then it has been horrible. The waitstaff/bartender are some of the rudest we have ever encountered, which is a shame because we tip 50% ever since COVID hit to help support our servers. It is so obvious that they would rather be somewhere else and make you feel like you are inconveniencing them whenever you ask for anything. We actually had one bartender roll her eyes when asked for another round of beers. We have also noticed that if you are not a regular and have been for a considerable amount of time then they could care a less about your service. The bartender will sit and talk with the regulars knowing you have an empty beer glass and just make you wait. We had really hoped that this bar would have worked for us since it is so close and the food seems to be decent. We attempted one last time this week to give them the benefit of the doubt and, as expected, they failed miserably. Unfortunately, we would rather drive the extra distance and patron an establishment that appreciates our business. We gave it a one star rating only because we couldn't give it any less to get this review posted. Hopefully the manager cares and takes these reviews seriously.

Yelp
I wanted to give a shout out to Norm and Tom for hosting my cousins memorial luncheon. The food was great, the staff was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere was perfect. We chose Muldoons because of the home town. Irish Pub type atmosphere, that makes regulars feel like family, and newcomers feel like friends. Way to go Muldoons, you came through in spades!

Yelp
I'm not sure if words can even describe my experience at Muldoon's. First of all, a friend of mine and I decided to head up there because of the close proximity to her apartment and because I had an inkling they just MAY have a megatouch machine. Bad news for me. They had a megatouch machine, but the two gents playing were not about to step aside. Well we were just up there for a few drinks so what did it matter anyway... Before we know it, there is full fledged karaoke going on. Now, if I have enough to drink-- I will sometimes partake in such activities... but after hearing the first few people sing.. HELL NO! Everything from the Monster Mash (no joke) to Fell on Black Days were belted out in utter perfection. I asked the bartender if it was a joke and if these people were all professionals... nope it wasn't. Well they had specials on Coors light drafts-- perhaps $1.75. Mine tasted pretty watery so I opted to go with whiskey for the remainder of the eve. After accepting the fact that my tattered voice was no match for this group of vocalists (yeah, they were that good in that I can call them that), I decided to hit up the pool table. It's fun and games until an eighty year old pool shark comes over and kicks your a**. No joke. The man was at LEAST 80... I believe his name was Roland... if you go there... DO NOT PLAY ROLAND if you want to keep a shred of dignity. So besides not being even remotely good enough to sing and getting beat by gramps at pool-- I had a blast here. I would definitely go back. The bartender told me I should come back on Wednesdays because they refer to it as "Scary-aoke" because everyone is THAT bad... maybe that will re-up my confidence.

Yelp
Best chicken strips I have ever had. Just pass the smoking ban in MI and they'll get 5 stars. ....what the hell. Went there after the smoking ban couple days ago and they switched up the strips to some generic crap. What did I do to deserve this?
google avatar

Catherine R.

Yelp
Not at all crazy about this place. Dont get me wrong, I could have been but I was treated awful by what I guess was the manager. I was there one night and yes...had a couple too many. Wasn't cut off. Wasn't sked to leave. Nothing. Next time I came in I was told I couldn't have a drink and even though I asked was given NO reason why. I own what I do was was found guilty with no trial. None of my friends will go there now. Shame. I have alot of friends.

Christopher M.

Yelp
They have lots of good food, drink specials, pool tables, darts and, on some nights, trivia or karaoke.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and I try to like this place. Below are the reasons I am trying to convince my co-workers to find a new after-work drink spot: *Wait staff have a "rough" appearance. I can't think of a better word to explain, but these ladies all look and act like they just broke out of the county jail. That has been the case with 3 of the 4 waitresses we've encountered - and all 7 people in my party have continually agreed on this. *Service is slow. Yes, they get busy but sometimes but it takes 10 minutes before we get our drinks after we've ordered, and that's after waiting 10 minutes to order!! I'm trying to have a quick drink after work and that simply cannot happen here. There is nothing worse that being as thirsty as a horse and seeing your beer sit on the bar waiting to be picked up by your waitress for 10 minutes!! I almost went to get it myself but didn't want to be rude. *Waitresses are not knowledgeable. Only 1 waitress can tell me what beers they have on tap. They have no beer list. How am I supposed to order a beer if there is no menu and my waitress says "Ummmm, miller lite, ummm... I don't know let me get this list out of my pocket". Bottom line is I am turned off by the wait staff and cannot get past that, despite trying 4 times. Sorry Muldoon's.
google avatar

Yelp
Muldoons is the closest bar or restaurant to my parents house, so when I'm back visiting, I often stop in for a drink. It's not the most amazing bar in the world, but it is a great neighborhood bar. Pool table, popular karaoke nights, keno, free salty popcorn, lots of TVs with games on, friendly bartenders and waitstaff. They serve bar food but I've never actually tried any of it- i would say it's more of a drinking bar than a restaurant but maybe I've just been missing out. One negative- they don't have the NHL package so if you want to watch a game that's not on cable you're out of luck. Still, quality local divey bar!
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Tried the 8-piece chicken wings (Buffalo & Garlic Parm) and they were some of the best wings I've ever had period! Looking forward to going back to try the other flavors!. Muldoon's, don't change a thing when it comes to your chicken wings!
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Such a great little dive bar. Get the pizza and a pitcher deal. The pizzas a step above usual "bar pizza" and...well, how wrong can you go with a pitcher of beer? Karaoke is a blast here, and it's a friendly, welcoming crowd. Which is what a dive bar should have.

Robert L.

Yelp
I go here regularly, couple times a month. Usually fine but tonight???? Cook was free-stylin'.......got both orders wrong. Somehow couldn't manage a BLT on Texas Toast...got a club sandwich instead; wife ordered chili Dogs but got hot dogs with refried beans instead..WHAT? Normally you expect to get what you order. Could cook have been into the sauce? How do you get a BLT and a chili dog wrong? Would also have been nice if waitress had spent less time playing on her phone. Would have slammed them for either infraction but both on the same night ticked me off!
google avatar

Spencer S.

Yelp
I always viewed this place as a divey bar with a rough crowd but was pleasantly surprised when I walked through the doors. Very nice design on the inside and a great spot if you have a larger group. They also have incredibly cheap drink specials during the week as well as trivia and karaoke.
google avatar

Marie m.

Yelp
Great service. Great beer selection. Good prices. Food isn't the best but it's still worthwhile of a trip. Weds nights is trivia and there are a couple pool tables so that is always a good time. Good tunes off the jukebox as well. :)
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Very good local watering hole. Good specials and the food is really good. We had the Friday fried cod special and the street tacos. Fish was fabulous and the tacos were good (not great). Our waitresses were fabulous. Glad we came here

Jessica C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times but never go on a Thursday evening. Around 6, the place wasn't even busy but there wasn't a table for two people open because every table was reserved for TRIVIA. I understand people regularly go there but they should be a first come, first serve place. If this were my business, I wouldn't want to turn customers away because of reservations made for trivia. There isn't a hostess, so it's basically a free for all anyways which is chaotic. The food isn't bad and the service is so-so. But as for Thursday's, I will never be back.

Vesna A.

Yelp
The first few times were ok we had good drinks and some pretty average bar food. But our last time there put us off forever. Our waitress didn't know what Miller light was and she had confirmed with someone that they had it. She wasn't young looking either so the fact she didn't know what it was and works in a bar surprised us. She then brought us a completely different beer. We didn't say anything and accepted the bottle but as the night went on we realized she got more and more rude. The second time we asked for it we had to let her know to bring the correct bottle and she practically slammed it on the table. We have been there a handful of times and we have never been carded. I'm in my 20s.....
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
juston and i were here last night to watch the Wing's game. this was my first bar experience after the smoking ban and it was lovely! we had the $11.95 pizza and pitcher deal. during the game there was a $2 bottle and $6 pitcher special. then, to our extreme surprise and pleasure there was live trivia at 9:30pm! we were planning on heading home after the game but our competitive side got the better of us and we stayed for the second round of trivia. we had a blast and we almost won! we came in 3rd and there were a lot of teams. we will be back to try our hand at the tuesday night trivia!

Yelp
Very cool, laid back, bigger than it looks. Great food selection and fun team trivia on Fridays.

Yelp
I came here for the night I turned 21 at midnight after having checked out the yelp reviews. I am not much of a sports bar gal, but this seemed like the comfy atmosphere that I was going for. I've passed by this intersection many times in my life, but have never paid much attention to what is there since nothing there has obvious signage and all the businesses around there have simple storefronts. Muldoon's outside isn't that welcoming, but the great service we had was plenty inviting. We went on a Monday night and there were only a few groups there. I figure since it was both a Monday night and this is an odd location for a bar, that's why it was pretty empty. We were able to sit anywhere and once we found our booth, we were promptly greeted by Kelly. She was bright and bubbly, but the genuine kind, not the "the second I turn around, I'm going to roll my eyes" kind. When she found out I was going to be turning 21 at midnight, she got excited and said she'd buy me a drink. When we were waiting for midnight, we got two apps. The jalepeno poppers weren't bad (although not spicy enough for my tastes) and the onion rings were perfectly cooked. When midnight rolled around, she excitedly brought me a pineapple upside down cake shot. That was followed by a raspberry koolaid then a poison ivy. All of the above were tasty, but the koolaid is my new favorite. Kelly was incredibly warm, animated, and efficient. She really wanted us, especially me, to have a good time, which made us fall in love with her. Had I not had plans in the morning and was with a different crowd, I would've continued imbibing, but I was pleased with my three drinks anyway. Among the three of us that were there, 8 drinks were had and two appetizers were shared. The bill came out to a whopping... $30.70? They only charged us for 6 of the drinks and two were on the house. Even for 6 drinks and two apps, that is a steal. There weren't any deals clearly posted, but we obviously got lucky with our choices. Because of the excellent service and cheap prices, I will definitely be back to Muldoon's.

Yelp
Muldoons is the best dive bar around. The vibe is unique and fun. People of all ages -- young and old hanging out laughing and partying. The service is fantastic and there are really good drink deals.
