Google
Food tasted really good but not really as described. The chicken Rogan Josh looked nothing like the pictures or what you would normally get, it looked and tasted more like butter chicken. The portions were also really small, the containers were drowning in curry with very little meat, see picture attached. Price isn’t worth the amount of food you get

Google
Our first visit to an Indian restaurant in VA was a positive experience. We enjoyed the butter chicken curry, tikka masala, samosas, and naan. However, we would have liked more meat in the dishes, considering the price. The service was straightforward, and our cheerful server added to the enjoyable atmosphere. The restaurant was clean and well-organized, and parking was available in a shared lot for the entire strip.

Google
This place never disappoints! The casual atmosphere allows for my last minute afternoon drop-ins where I can sit and eat quickly or take a meeting on my laptop, while eating. Most recently ordered takeout for 4 (and wow, everything was in the bag when I got home!)... cost under $50. Also, they offer optional use of cash for a discount. The authentic food and customer service cannot be beat!

Google
We already have a go-to Indian place but got an advertisement for Mumbai Darbar in the Val Pack so decided to give it a go. Wow! We were shocked how good the food was! First we had the chicken pakora which was so well spiced and crispy. Delicious! I also loved the butter salmon which I don't see often on menus. The salmon was so tender and I loved the curry. We can't wait to try more! Has usual Indian spot been dethroned?

Google
I had Chicken Rogan Josh for the first time ever and it was quite good. I eat spicy food regularly - Mexican, Pakistani, Indian - and their medium level is just the right amount of heat while still allowing you to taste the spices and flavors. Don’t be deceived by the seemingly small serving portions because I was full by the end. Service was friendly and not rushed. No TVs or music piped in so a nice, quiet atmosphere.

Google
Indian restaurant serving delicious Indian cuisine. We ordered Fish and Chicken Pakora, Dal Makhani, Lamb Rogan Josh, Paneer Mutter, Aloo Gobi Masala, Garlic Naan, Salted Lassi…

Google
Excellent! First time eating Indian food. Will be back again.

Google
We sampled samosa, chicken momo, chicken tandoori, lamb chops, and mango lassi, and the food is delicious. The worst aspect is that there are additional fees of 10% tax plus 18% mandatory service charge plus gratuity. Typically, an additional 35% to 40% of your compensation is required. You overpaid for that, including the food. Too many additional costs and hidden fees prevented me from ever trying to visit again. The worst thing is that, although it is advertised on the outside of the glass, if you eat more than $75, you will receive 10% off. However, when you dine in and inquire with the waitress, this did not apply. Customers were tricked into paying more money by using fictitious people and information.

Yelp
Exceptional dishes. Excellent tandoor offerings. Great service. My experience is limited to Uber eats deliveries, but always arrived hot and fresh. Can't wait to try their dining experience..

Yelp
I would definitely recommend this restaurant! The restaurant was nicely kept, the atmosphere was relaxing and quiet; and the waiter was patient and attentive. Just great! I ordered the garlic naan, vegetable samosas and Dal makhani - everything was DELICIOUS! The portions were good and there was just enough leftover to enough a treat tomorrow.

Yelp
Misleading Halal Claim and Unprofessional Staff Behavior!!! I ordered food at this restaurant but didn't eat it because I couldn't find any clear sign or certification showing that the restaurant is truly halal, except for a small 'halal' logo posted on the wall. I also noticed they sell alcohol, which made me even more concerned that alcohol could be mixed into the food or that proper halal preparation may not be followed. I felt very uncomfortable and left. When I called and politely asked if I could get a refund, the staff responded very rudely and said, 'We're not giving you your money back -- do whatever you want.' This experience was disappointing and misleading, especially for Muslim customers who rely on the halal label.

Caitlin S.

Yelp
Best tandoori chicken I've ever had. Ordered a whole chicken, which came with a vegetable side (I chose spinach), naan, and a spicy sauce. Made wonderful leftovers, too. Service was friendly and quick. Check it out!

Yelp
The food is INCREDIBLY good! I come from a Caribbean background and so I am familiar with many Indian dishes as well as well seasoned food on a whole. Since moving from the NY/NJ area, it's been a challenge finding very good food here in Northern Virginia. If you like imported beer, try the Taj Mahal Premium Beer. EXCELLENT customer service and service in general. Ambiance is peaceful and calm. I will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Can't wait to try more options. I got the Cana Masala and Roti to go. I ordered medium spice, and could go up a notch, but the potion was good and the flavor was outstanding! Will definitely come again.

Yelp
I came in here recently for a late lunch/early dinner. I had ordered from them on Grubhub, but had not eaten on the premises yet. I got onion kulcha (flat Indian bread, $4.49), salmon curry (medium spiciness, $17.99), sweet lassi (similar to Persian or Afghan ayran, but not salty, $3.99), and mango kulfi (similar to ice cream, $2.99). All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The salmon curry was especially good. The facilities were clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and the service was reasonably quick. No complaints.

Yelp
9 years later and I still order delivery from here. It is exceptional! I've now tried many other Indian spots and this is still my favorite!!
google avatar

Clyde S.

Yelp
I ate here today had chicken pakora and chicken Vandalia it was very tasty they made it right for me it wasn't too spicy when i told them the heat level they made it spot on this was the first time here and I'll be coming back

Audrey S.

Yelp
These guys are serving up some good authentic Indian food. I had a veggie platter that was out of this world. The naan was freshly made and so darn delicious. I can't wait to go back. Give them a try. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
I've done my second take out order from this unique small Indian cuisine restaurant. So far the food has been great. I've ordered chicken and lamb saag (love spinach) and chicken tikka. Food is delicious and price is right. Love their mango chutney as well if you like a little kick on the side. I always order mild but they have other options as well. Owner is kind and friendly and restaurant is tastefully decorated and clean. Only problem is the parking in this super busy shopping center.
google avatar

Peter U.

Yelp
Food nd service is amazing. One of the best Indian food restaurants in Virginia! The vegetable pakora and alu-Gobi Masala are really good. So is the garlic naan!

Leonora S.

Yelp
We usually do takeout but got the Groupon and had to dine in. Waited 30 mins for the drinks and only got it because we had to chase the server. Waited an hour for the food and we had 2 little kids. The momos came with no sauce. The mains were good but the wait time was insane. Only one person doing takeout and dining and he couldn't handle it. On top there was a mandatory 18% service charge!

Yelp
Visiting friend and I went here to find the best and closest Indian restaurant to my new digs. It is in a corner of a strip mall. Not much to speak of as far as ambiance, but clean and well lit. The server was friendly and attentive, though food took a while even though there was only one other table. We ordered garlic naan, butter chicken, saag paneer and I initially ordered eggplant, but it turned out they were out of it, so we went with Dahl Mahkni. Once we got everything, it was quite good. Will definitely get take out here in future.

Yelp
I have been coming to this place for a long time spending a lot of money for me and my family on occasion I have experience food quality there were several different dishes I have ordered and they messed my order up or they made my food very spicy when I ask for mild and I have ordered fish pakora and it was over cooked and hard very chewy or they gave me chicken pakora instead of fish pakora and when I accuse them of how the order taste, they told me to come back next time instead of replacing it then I had to wait till next time when I came in to make another order and then they replaced it, but this time I had ordered over $160 of food and they messed up on the fish pakora which it was very chewy and hard so when I spoke to the owner of the restaurant, he tells me this is becoming a pattern and I told him no it's not a pattern it's just i'm trying to explain to you that the food that I ordered is not right and I want it corrected because I spend my money for it so he told me to come in next time as usual as they do tell me and when I was getting ready to make a big order, I reminded him of that situation with the food with the fish and he tells me no, so I told him that he lost a good customer as a customer I try to give business a chance to correct so I'm just letting everyone know just be careful when you order from these people there food is good at sometimes the reason I think is who's the chef making the order .

Yelp
Great food! As always great flavor and plenty of food. Decided to try Chicken Rogan Josh, instead of the usual butter chicken. It was great. My to go place for Indian food.

Kate P.

Yelp
Delicious, friendly, fast- great experience. Highly recommend the palak paneer and tandoori chicken.
google avatar

Mitch J.

Yelp
Great to find an Indian restaurant near me that checks the box on nice decor, great food and fine service! Prices are good too! Nice modern look. Really hospitable kind service. Excellent chicken saag and Bhindi masala. First time here. Definitely coming back. Looking forward to returning with friends. Thank You Kalish!!!

Meeka A.

Yelp
The Vegetable samosa is delicious, especially with the tamarind and mint cilantro chutney. The Alu tiki was pretty good and a bit filling. The menu had a lot of vegetarian and meat options. The service was really good and the establishment was clean. I would definitely come back and recommend others trying it out.

Yelp
Quaint restaurant with lots of choices. We gave the lamb korma , butter chicken, garlic naan and basmati rice topped with a mango lassi. Both main dishes were good, serving was less than we normally experience. The lamb was very tender with a flavorful light korma sauce. The butter chicken was good too, but we have our favorite place in another state that is the best, overall. The naan was light and a bit crispy. The rice was perfectly done. My husband liked the mango lassi. Overall, it was very good and I would recommend this place.

Iris R.

Yelp
The best Indian restaurant in the DMV! Personal service with friends, quiet, with everyone enjoying the food. We always have mango lassi, best butter chicken, best of the best goat curry, excellent breads made just before you eat them, vegetable dishes all great, raita, desserts, you think you are eating in India, but better. If you can't stay, order the take-out, which is just as good and delivered or ready for pick-up quickly. Good selection of beer and wine. Highest recommendation!

Yelp
We went to Mumbai Darbar recently and enjoyed our meal. We got the lamb Rogan Josh, garlic naan, and butter chicken. The sauce for each dish was very good and rich with flavor. The meat for both was cooked well - nice and tender pieces. We both really loved the garlic naan which had a healthy serving of fresh garlic on each piece. The restaurant itself doesn't have too many frills, but still was a nice place to be. The staff were friendly as well! We would come back here!!

Ravens Fan N.

Yelp
I called ahead of time to verify if they could accommodate some food allergies on specific dishes and they said yes. Went there and placed my order. The server return to my table saying that they couldn't accommodate what I had requested. We got up and left. What a waste of time. When you're in the restaurant business, please know what foods you serve!

Elias M.

Yelp
I came in and asked if i could use The bathroom before I ordered but they told me no very rudely and very money hungry very poor service and then when i ordered the food which i payed almost 40$ for how can something worth cheesecake factory prices taste worst than school lunch and it had a hair i wish i could put negative stars very raw meat and dirty place no wonder no ones here.
google avatar

Cheryl H.

Yelp
Peaceful friendly place in a global strip of restaurants. Excellent service and delicious dishes - tasted genuine and authentic. The best mango lassi I've ever had! The owner/server was so kind and sweet. We would come back in a heartbeat.
google avatar

Lor B.

Yelp
This is my second time ordering from Mumbai Darbar and I haven't had any disappointing dishes yet. I'm slowly working my way through the menu, but I already have favorites. If you see anything Roganjosh? Order it immediately. Flavorful, spicy (as in heat and spices), I can't get enough. You need rice-and a lot of it-so you can keep eating till you explode. The vegetable dishes also have not disappointed. But the lamb Roganjosh in particular has my heart. And my stomach. And my wallet. And my axe. The portions are generous, and I can usually have two lunches and two dinners from two entrees.
google avatar

Josh G.

Yelp
I would consider this a more appropriate venue for a takeout order, as the restaurant itself is a bit plain and not per se inviting. Nonetheless, the entree options are good and comparatively reasonable in price. I tend to be partial to the chicken tikka and samosas, but the other offerings such as the Momo are good too.
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
OMG!!!! This place is amazing! Originally we were going to stop at lemongrass for some Thai, but their dining room was still closed due to COVID fears, so we wandered over to Mumbai Darbar without any expectations. First off, everyone inside was very friendly and ensured we were well taken care of and comfortable. My wife and I were not starving so we opted to split an order of tandoori wings and an order of the Butter Chicken. The Wings were good, but the Butter Chicken (Chicken Tikka Masala) knocked our socks off. It was amazing! The garlic naan was perfect for soaking up the sauce, and my wife and I basically were fighting over the last drops of that delicious curry goodness! I will definitely be back!

Allie W.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here several times. The food is always excellent and the service is quick!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and reasonable price ! The service is very good the gentleman at front is very kind and friendly and he really gives an outstanding customer service! I tried the fish pakora , butter chicken , chicken biryani and lamb chops ( make sure you ask them for medium if you don't like well done ) And garlic naan and they were all amazing and tasty Will visit here for sure my favorite Indian place in the area!

Muskaan J.

Yelp
Very tasty food. Loved the experience there and the service too. Must visit. Just loved the paneer curry

Jatin P.

Yelp
This was my first visit (and possibly the last) to this place. I ordered Chili Vegetable Momos as appetizer, and eagerly waited about 30 minutes to try it out, but surprisingly the taste was so horrible that I walked away within less than a minute by trying only one bite. The Chili Veg Momos were sautéd with some type of mustard and turmeric sauce which tasted so disgusting that I had to spit out even the only bite. The Momos' outside layer was felt like wheat floor and the inside stuffing tasted stale. I have had Momos before, and this was not Momos. The customer service was even worse than the food. I paid full amount for the food I didn't eat, and no courtesy to offer replacement or partial refund. I hope this review helps others before ordering it, and hope it helps restaurant to improve their food and the service.
google avatar

Ta-Sha W.

Yelp
Ordered food last night on GrubHub from here. It. Was. AMAZING! I don't have any food pics because we were too excited about the food to even think about taking pictures of it. Our order was delivered quickly and steaming hot. Because it was my first time using GrubHub, I got a $12 discount! I've ordered food from them before (at the restaurant) and they have never disappointed.

Kyra Q.

Yelp
Paneer pakora was cold, hard, over priced and not worth it. Not seasoned very well just tastes like biting through a cold block of mozzarella cheese. On the other hand the chicken vindaloo was delicious and very spicy my lips are burning as I type this. The potatoes mixed in with the chicken was a pleasant surprise. ALSO THE GARLIC NAAN IS AMAZING 10/10.
google avatar

Mira S.

Yelp
The food was deliciou! Butter chicken, tandoori shrimp, vegetable samosas, all were the best ever.

Tomas C.

Yelp
I have bever been to the restaurant but I had it delivered at home many times. Never been disappointed. The food is delicious.

Melvin M.

Yelp
Good vibe, great food, and fine service! Prices are good too! Love the chicken masala and naum. Side note, the owner of the restaurant stopped by our table for a short discussion on the food and service.

Yelp
I ordered food to go for a meal for me and a friend out in Virginia and was very pleased with the level of service, the quality of the food, and the overall cost. The restaurant isn't upscale by any stretch of the imagination---the chairs and tables are plain, the interior isn't very warm and inviting, and the store is in an older shopping center in Alexandria. There's a TV on one of the walls. There's a small bar/service area. These are mere observations, not complaints. The decor was minimal with no glitz and glamour, but that doesn't matter to me if the food is amazing. And yes, the food was very, very good! I ordered the butter chicken and paid the extra $1 to get white meat, because all of their chicken dishes are a mix of white and dark by default. The entree came with a lot of pieces of chicken, the masala sauce was enough for the amount of chicken, the heat level was just right (I asked for medium), and the portion size was very reasonable. The food was served hot, and the taste was excellent. The second entree I ordered was the chicken kabobs, which were so fresh, juicy, thoroughly cooked, seasoned perfectly, not salty, delectable, and huge, I was very pleasantly surprised, not knowing what to expect. The chicken kabobs came with rice and a little container of spicy green chutney, which was very flavorful and definitely had a burn. I love dousing my chicken kabobs with chutney so more would be most welcome! I also ordered the garlic naan, which had big pieces of garlic, was buttery and grilled well. I also received an extra plain naan in my bag--such a nice bonus! The food wasn't ready when I arrived but the employee offered me a seat at the table and a glass of water. The interior was fairly empty, but I also arrived at an odd time, too early for dinner and too late for lunch. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would definitely return. So many of the very good Indian restaurants are in Virginia, alas!

Yelp
We visited here as a group of 8 several months ago, and enjoyed our experience. We ordered a variety of dishes - momos, chicken tikka, palak paneer, daal, and naan among others. Everything was well prepared and flavorful. My in-laws are Indian and they requested take out from this place during their last visit, so they obviously enjoyed it the first time - a solid endorsement!
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
I appreciate any business that's open during covid-19. Very quick on mother's day! Ready in 15 mins. Main disappoitment was that the samosas I ordered weren't in my bag when I got the food home. I called and they said I could come back for them, but I didn't feel like driving the 30 min round trip. They said they'd refund me the price of the samosas and I'll be checking my bill. Veggie pakora were great! Lamb in the vindaloo was really tender. The flavor in the sauces of the meat dishes wes a little flat in general. Vindaloo was not as hot as I'd expect either.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food. My wife and I really enjoyed the vegetarian items I ordered to not eat meat on a Friday during Lent. It's often ordered now outside that time....
google avatar

Vanessa V.

Yelp
This place has the best butter chicken in the DMV & I've tried a lot of places. We also ordered a chilly chicken momo which was fire & paired it with the mango lassi to cool our mouths. Definitely recommend !

Mallika M.

Yelp
Delicious food and spiciness on point! Very friendly service, nice atmosphere, and clean restaurant. Chicken Tandoori wings is also excellent for appetizer! Highly recommended!

Jay Z.

Yelp
The food is always great. The staff is always polite, professional & respectful. I come here at least twice a month and try a different dish. I've loved every dish thus far!
google avatar

Dee D.

Yelp
It was a good quiet experience. The food was great, but their Chicken Tikka Marsala was different. Their chicken tikka was bbq chicken. The host kept telling me that he knows what it was I was talking about, but he didn't. He just kept on offering me butter chicken. Stating that it is the one I want. I got it anyway. It was till delicious, but not the chicken tikka masala I've tried from many favorited Indian businesses. The chicken tikka masala is supposed to have more spices in it. It is the spices that differentiates the chicken tikka masala from the butter chicken! Otherwise it was great. Customer service was very good!! I'd probably visit again, but I'm in no rush to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Hi ! I ordered the catered tray of chicken tandoori for Diwali at work. I have to share the chicken was beyond amazing! Half the tray was gone in matter of minutes! And people were fighting to take pieces home ! Everyone loved your chicken and the naan! Next time I need to collect your business cards share! Thank you for the joy!

Yelp
I tried 3 things for dinner. Taste: Shrimp curry was delicious and had 6 middle size shrimps. Rice was too soft and smelled bad. I hope they put cumin seed in it. Lamb kebab came with curry flavored potato, mint sauce, some slices of grilled onion and tomato, nan, and rice. The potato was tasty, lamb was tough but flavorful, mint sauce tiny, and nan good. Dessert was interesting in a good way. It said cheese but tasted like a wet doughnut with condensed milk, rose water, and pistachio. Price: Too pricy for the small quantity. I spent about $35 for take out dinner. Lunch time buffet is about $10 tho... Customer service: Good. Location: Many small restaurants around here. International!

Yelp
It's shameful how often I think about this place. I have to make a consistent and conscious decision to not go to Mumbai Darbar daily. I love Indian food and the restaurants in this plaza just always seem to exceed expectations. If you can find something bad here, let me know. I've made a concerted effort to mix up my order every time and have yet to meet disappointed in any shape or form! Seafood and vegetarian options abound. So far, shahi paneer, butter salmon, palak paneer, and mutter paneer have all been good! The poppadums, lentil soup, garlic naan, paneer pakora... honestly, I've been here way too much already. Raaga and Aditi have effectively been replaced in my rotation. The portions are good enough to leave you with lunch the next day so the value is there, on top of the taste. What causes MD to lose a star is operations. Although the customer service is friendly (those guys are always pleasant!), the food take a fairly long time, whether it's take out, dine in, or delivery (try not to judge me). The wait is always frustrating but the food is always worth the wait. I wouldn't trade quality for speed. Lastly, the dining space has minimal temperature control so wear a sweater if it's cold out... or order your food Indian Spicy!

Yelp
Ordered food delivery from them and amazing service the food was hot and the delivery was on time, I really appreciate Mumbai darbar for the excellent food and service.will be their next regular all time customer.
