I ordered food to go for a meal for me and a friend out in Virginia and was very pleased with the level of service, the quality of the food, and the overall cost.
The restaurant isn't upscale by any stretch of the imagination---the chairs and tables are plain, the interior isn't very warm and inviting, and the store is in an older shopping center in Alexandria. There's a TV on one of the walls. There's a small bar/service area. These are mere observations, not complaints. The decor was minimal with no glitz and glamour, but that doesn't matter to me if the food is amazing.
And yes, the food was very, very good! I ordered the butter chicken and paid the extra $1 to get white meat, because all of their chicken dishes are a mix of white and dark by default. The entree came with a lot of pieces of chicken, the masala sauce was enough for the amount of chicken, the heat level was just right (I asked for medium), and the portion size was very reasonable. The food was served hot, and the taste was excellent.
The second entree I ordered was the chicken kabobs, which were so fresh, juicy, thoroughly cooked, seasoned perfectly, not salty, delectable, and huge, I was very pleasantly surprised, not knowing what to expect. The chicken kabobs came with rice and a little container of spicy green chutney, which was very flavorful and definitely had a burn. I love dousing my chicken kabobs with chutney so more would be most welcome!
I also ordered the garlic naan, which had big pieces of garlic, was buttery and grilled well. I also received an extra plain naan in my bag--such a nice bonus!
The food wasn't ready when I arrived but the employee offered me a seat at the table and a glass of water. The interior was fairly empty, but I also arrived at an odd time, too early for dinner and too late for lunch.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would definitely return. So many of the very good Indian restaurants are in Virginia, alas!
