Like Mei Lai Wah, the only thing worth getting here is the pineapple roast pork bun (which is fine, because that's delicious)! I stopped by on the weekend and ordered a few things, including the pineapple roast pork bun but also the rice rolls w/ fish tofu, sticky rice, big bun, and popcorn chicken. All of those were kind of sad, and the service/management was pretty shoddy.
The rice rolls were actually just rolls of rice noodles, and the "w/ fish tofu" part was just 3 tiny pieces of fish tofu thrown on top of the rice noodles (which made me sad cus one of the reviews on here or gmaps said that they were like real rice noodles). The sticky rice was really mushy, and the big bun was soggy inside and the filling kept sliding around everywhere. That being said, the filling was OK, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I just took out the filling and threw away the soggy bun. The popcorn chicken was fine, fried very well, but the inside was pretty dry and tasteless (probably because they used chicken breast).
The thing that I'm really annoyed about is that they say they open at 12:30pm, but almost nothing on the menu was ready at that time. We arrived a little after 1pm only to be told the fryer wasn't ready when we tried to order popcorn chicken. They said we would have to wait an hour for the fryer to be ready. During that time, we sat down and ate the rest of the food that we ordered, and at the end (30 mins later) asked again if we could order the popcorn chicken. They hadn't even started setting up the fryer and told us again that it would be ready in an hour. I was really craving popcorn chicken so despite the rest of the food (except the famous pineapple bun) being really mediocre I said I would come back in an hour to order it. When I came back at 2:45pm the fryer was finally ready.
I understand this is a late night food spot, but if you're open for lunch hours and don't plan to have half of your menu available until almost 3pm, you have a couple options: 1) say on the menu that the fried food isn't available until 3pm, 2) open later when you can actually have your equipment ready, 3) open at the same time but have the equipment ready by opening or AT LEAST. AT LEAST. be getting it ready at opening time. Not waiting 1.5+ hours AFTER opening to START taking the equipment out and getting it ready.
Generally, I only post my rating based on the food. But I think this is pretty egregious. 3 stars for the food, 1 star for management.
