Savannah’s Death & Co. Bar Is Now Open in the Municipal Grand Hotel | Eater Carolinas

"The hotel’s eponymous lobby bar quickly packed with patrons on opening night and is positioned as the city’s best new spot to see and be seen (both in person and on Instagram). Anchoring the lobby is a curved, 14-seat bar surrounded by serpentine banquettes and low lounge seating; although at street level, the entire floor feels like one big sunken conversation pit thanks to an upper mezzanine encasing the perimeter. The menu leans into sociability with a “Family Style” list that encourages guests to start with banana daiquiri “cheekies” — miniature renditions made with Wray & Nephew rum and served in port glasses for $8 per person — or to “Keep It Going” with espresso martini cheekies at $6 a pop. For a fancier pour, there is a $36 “Proper Martini Service” for two — inspired by London’s Dukes bar — served ice-cold with a choose-your-own-adventure selection of accouterments, plus the option to add a side of salty shoestring fries for an additional $5. A full selection of regular-sized beverages includes a neon-hued white Negroni (Terroir gin, Americano, and Gentian amaro), garnished with a juicy pineapple wedge, and rum- or mezcal-forward cocktails conceived with subtropical climes in mind — served with crushed ice, crystal-clear rocks, or frosted glassware — contemporary riffs on classics priced roughly $16–$19 and bearing the expected influence of the Death & Co. lineage. The lobby bar is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m." - Colleen McNally Arnett

Death & Co Team Plans Luxury Hotel Municipal Grand With a Killer Lobby Bar in Savannah | Eater Carolinas

"Located at 132 East Broughton Street in a 1960s former First Federal Savings and Loan Association building, this forthcoming luxury hotel will revitalize the space while preserving much of its original midcentury modern charm. It will feature 44 rooms, a lobby bar and restaurant, a rooftop pool, and a subterranean bar; cocktails will be handled by the team behind a renowned New York cocktail venue and the food program will draw on traditional and modern American steakhouse influences. The owners describe the project as an effort to create a welcoming, living-room–style gathering spot for the city, and the property is slated to open in early 2025." - Erin Perkins

I randomly came across this spot while walking and decided to stop in. Since I didn’t have a reservation I grabbed a seat at the bar and honestly I’m so glad I did. The place is super clean the staff are really friendly and everything was just perfect. The food smelled so good my hands were literally shaking while taking pictures 😂 And huge shout out to them for splitting the steak onto two plates which made sharing so easy and thoughtful. Definitely coming back. Such a great Saturday night dinner!

Just two of us on a date night to celebrate our 41st anniversary. We had a reservation and were seated right away. While being seated, I asked for a table further from the front door. The hostess immediately took care of it. Our server, Tia was amazing from the get-go. She was welcoming, friendly, professional, and willing to give recommendations. (which is rarer than you think) We were there just in time for Happy Hour and the drinks were good. We ordered the Trio Snack to munch on with our cocktails & wine. For food, we just picked three appetizers for both of us to share, the dumplings, croquettes, and octopus salad. All three were excellent and plentiful! One additional note: the staff worked together well, refilling water, bringing food and drinks, and answering our questions. Tia even brought us Champagne for our anniversary celebration. Overall an excellent experience and we will definitely be back.

I have been waiting YEARS for something to happen with the old water department mid mod masterpiece. We just came in for drinks, they have a great menu and the service was good. The vibes were awesome! The decor, the music, and the staff totally made it. It felt like stepping back into the 70s (in a good way) and enjoying great cocktails with great company!

This is our new favorite place in Savannah. Very cool vibe. Delicious food. Excellent service. This isn't your typical bar. Everything is elevated. All top quality. I highly recommend this place.

We walked into Municipal Bar right at happy hour after a long road trip from beautiful Jacksonville, Florida. We made key stops along the way at Buc-ee’s, Piggly Wiggly, and Food Lion to stock up on supplies for the journey. We entered into a space that has been expertly converted from a municipal building into a cute trendy cocktail lounge. They kept certain key elements from the municipal building and blended it with modernistic lounge design. I was obsessed. Whoever designed this place deserves some kind of award. We sat at the bar and ordered a couple dirty martinis ($10 at happy hour), fries ($5), oysters ($16) and garden lettuce ($12). My girlfriend soft launched me on her IG story with a picture of my hand and $14 Casio watch holding a martini glass. WE DID IT!!!! The oysters and fries were fantastic, but the garden lettuce was a brick. We just didn’t enjoy the dressing at all, but that’s more on me for ordering that. I knew better. The martinis were hitting different. I felt like a New York businessman in the 80s, slamming martinis after a long day of yelling at people on the phone slanging penny stocks. Municipal Bar on Broughton Street is a fantastic new spot inside the ground floor of the brand-new Municipal Grand Hotel. The space has a stylish mid-century modern design, and it’s cool knowing the bar is located in the old municipality building where Savannah residents once paid their water bills. We went for our 32nd anniversary, and while the small lounge-style table seating wasn’t the most comfortable for dining, everything else about the experience more than made up for it. Our server, Chase, an architecture student at SCAD, was wonderful—friendly, thoughtful, and very knowledgeable. Drinks were excellent: I had an Old Fashioned, and my wife enjoyed a crisp Italian white. For starters, we ordered the octopus and sourdough dumplings—both were outstanding. For dinner, we shared the whole branzino, which was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. On the side, we had carrots and potatoes. The potatoes came in a heavier cream sauce—rich but tasty. Overall, a memorable experience with upscale vibes, great service, and delicious food. Highly recommend!

I have been twice so far. Once for breakfast - I strongly recommend the french toast. Another time for drinks during happy hour.

Yelp
Justin was amazing. He was attentive and provided the best service ever. The drink menu was impressive. I ordered the Delicious Royale; peach aperitif, calvados, lemon and sparking win was the perfect refreshing drink for a hot evening in Savannah. I was highly impressed with the transformation of the building. They turned the utility building from the 60's into a swanky hotel and bar. Keeping some of the old decor and added modern touches. Job well done. I also have to compliment the entire team because the establishment was less than a week old and everything was moving smoothly. Enjoyed my time so much I forgot to take photos. Guess I have to go back so I can get some photos and of course another delicious royale.

Yelp
This place is stunning. The attention to detail should not be overlooked. From the ingredients in each drink to the decor and even the staff, everything is one point. The staff here is amazing, very kind and there are tons of people who know how to provide spectacular service. Even though this place is beautiful and newly opened, I will say that the concept is an interesting one in the Savannah area. The lobby for the Municipal Hotel IS the bar and restaurant, not in a separate section of the building or its own space. They do take reservations for tables and the bar (interesting), and I recommend you do make one. We just wanted drinks and desert, but were very confused with the instructions we received from the hostess. We went to sit where we thought we could sit, and she told us those were reserved seats, then we went to the bar and were told again that those were reserved seats. I had to ask for clarification on where we actually COULD sit in the main area, and we were told we could stand off to the side of the walk up car area or in one of the two sets of lounge chairs by the from window, the mezzanine, or downstairs. We went to the mezzanine and it was a cool spot. (The person who explained the seating best to us comped our drinks, so that was very kind) After sitting on the mezzanine level, a table opened and we went down. The seating we were at is NOT the best for eating, very low seats and high tables, but great for drinks! I would recommend getting a booth or the bar to eat comfortably. Being moved that many times dampened the mood. Again, the bar is in the lobby of the hotel. The check-in desk is in the spa w space of all the hubbub. I imagine that might get clunky if people are checking in late, but it seems there's another door to walk through if you're just going to the hotel. Beautiful addition, looking forward to see how they iron out the kinks as they become more established.

Yelp
Fabulous! So Glad we found this Savannah gem. Photos are from our brunch but we went back in the late afternoon for cocktails. Both experiences were perfection! The fresh fruit was amazing and very shareable. I had the smoked salmon tartine, pictured in the photo which they kindly served me at ten even though the menu says they don't start serving it until eleven. My husband had the house omelet, which was divine. Later in the day, we came back to meet a friend to have a drink and the house Old Fashioned was excellent (the one with the coconut and macadamia). Service, Food, Total Experience - exceptional! And our server at brunch, Hanni, was wonderful, truly. We're here as tourists but we can't wait to return!

Yelp
Decided tonight was night to try this newest venue in Savannah and I am glad that I did. The basement speakeasy is still being built but will be a welcome location to try once open. The bar/restaurant and hotel lobby are beautiful and well attired. They have 44 boutique rooms here so they are likely very nicely apportioned. The bar and the dinner I got were excellent and I couldn't be happier with the food I recieved. The service at the bar is great. James Nowicki the bar manager is phenomenal and his staff it top notch. Marin is a true joy and a great bartender as well. If you have the chance this is a spot to come and enjoy.

Yelp
I have heard some really great things about the Muncipal bar and hotel. So I was super excited to celebrate here recently for my birthday brunch and it very much met my expectations. The drinks were really good. I enjoyed the espresso martini and a lemon drop. The food was good, but I feel like it could've used more seasoning and flavor. The menu is very limited so definitely make sure you understand that before you go. The decor is very much giving an 80s 90s, super chill super laid-back vibe. I felt like I was in the movie Casino, with the esthetics. Our waiter was extremely friendly. He knew that it was my birthday and he made sure to go above and beyond, and even mentioned that his birthday was the day before. I would definitely come back for a cute date night and check out the hotel area for the photo opps.

Yelp
The bar is very classy but laid-back, with incredible cocktails and a vibe that makes you want to stay all evening. The bartenders clearly take pride in their craft, and the drink menu had something for everyone. We had the fries for a side with our drinks and they were top tier. Like actually. Whether you're staying overnight or just stopping in for a drink, this place captures the heart and character of Savannah beautifully. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great service, elegant design, and a true elevated hospitality experience!

Yelp
In Savannah for our anniversary. Found out about Municipal Bar and liked the concept and the menu. The vibe on a Friday night was great - busy and a little loud but not overcrowded or overwhelming. There were creative and tasty takes on some classic cocktails, and the food was excellent. I could have eaten about 40 of the hash browns with caviar. The gnocchi was top notch. And if you don't order the whole branzino you will be riddled with "I should have listened to Matt" forever. Order the branzino, it is exceptional. Best of all, the service was wonderful. Attentive but not all up in our business, friendly but not sappy. It was just right. We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Great new spot in Savannah. Food and drinks ate delicious. Tia was amazing as well! Had burgers and fries were great.

Kimberly J.

Yelp
Terrible terrible service. waited over 40 minutes for a cocktail that never arrived. the "hostess" made matters worse with her bad attitude.

Laura K.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails and appetizers. The branzino is highly recommended! The staff is second to none. We will definitely be back to stay at the hotel!

Yelp
Great dumplings. Comfortable seating Music too loud and not good almost ruined it. Very nice server

Yelp
First off the place is gorgeous! And our waitress Maiya was so courteous and sweet. We started out with the brunch menu. Not too many choices regarding a regular breakfast, but I was very pleased with the crispy bacon. We also had a veggie burger, and it basically was the highlight of our brunch.
