Savannah Just Keeps Getting Cooler—Here’s Where to Soak in the City’s Creative Buzz | Vogue

"Built in 1961, the First Federal Savings and Loan Association building sat at the corner of Broughton and Abercorn for five decades before, in July 2025, it went from bank to boutique. The reimagining by AAmp Studio transformed the six-story landmark into a 44-key hotel that puts as much emphasis on sipping and socializing as snoozing. Trading a typical lobby for an all-day eatery–meets–bar with a reception desk tucked in the corner, the Southeastern debut for Midnight Auteur (from the founders of Death & Co.) shows a preference for fun over following “the rules.” Rooms, like the common areas, reflect the structure’s midcentury architectural legacy, and overpackers will appreciate the ample cabinetry." - Lindsay Cohn

“Micro-cations” Are More Popular Than Ever—Here’s Where to Go For Your Next Short Getaway | Vogue

"Savannah’s newest boutique hotel is a mid‑century modern masterpiece inside a former Federal Savings Bank, where the “Proper Martini Service” delivers a tableside martini for two with salty fries—and libations continue at its new underground bar, The Hot Eye, slated to open this winter." - Katie Lockhart

First Look at the Hot Eye, the Sexy Cocktail Den Below Savannah’s Municipal Grand | Eater Carolinas

"Three months after swinging open on Broughton Street, this 44‑room boutique hotel from Midnight Auteur leans into its cocktail‑centric DNA with a window‑lined lobby dressed in bright, jewel‑toned colors that nod to the building’s 1960s bank/government roots, while a darker, AAmp Studio–designed cocktail den, the Hot Eye, hides below. I love that the preserved architecture remains a feature—non‑gendered bathrooms with flirty communal sinks sit by the original bank vault amid terrazzo tiles, chrome railings, and low ceilings—and that the property plays with whimsy: a single key is hidden somewhere in the rooms, redeemable for a round of drinks downstairs at the Hot Eye. The connection between hotel and bar stays close even when out of sight, and guests at the lounge can add an impromptu discounted stay upstairs, underscoring the hotel’s nightlife‑friendly, cocktail‑first appeal." - Colleen McNally Arnett

Savannah’s Death & Co. Bar Is Now Open in the Municipal Grand Hotel | Eater Carolinas

"Opened on July 11 as a cocktail-driven, 44-room reimagining of a six-story, 1960s landmark at 45 Abercorn Street, the hotel was developed by Midnight Auteur, a hospitality group from the founders of Death & Co. and Denver’s the Ramble Hotel. Its name nods to the building’s past as the First Federal Savings and Loan Association (operating 1961–1989) and later a City of Savannah workplace, and the preserved architecture — from terrazzo tiles to the bank vault — sets the tone for midcentury modern interiors by AAmp Studio (in collaboration with Savannah-based Lynch Associates Architects and Ward Architecture + Preservation). The ownership and brand context are emphasized throughout: Death & Co. was founded by David Kaplan and Ravi DeRossi in the mid-aughts and grew from an unassuming East Village bar into a sought-after international cocktail brand, leading to spin-off ventures (including Gin & Luck and the broader Midnight Auteur projects) and investor-funded expansion via platforms like Dealmaker. Leadership and service are presented as a key draw: Franck Savoy (son of chef Guy Savoy) serves as general manager after a fine-dining start and roles at Shutters on the Beach, Auberge Resorts, and Berg Hospitality Group; he’s joined by Death & Co. veteran Sam Penton as director of outlets, executive chef Karim Elkady (Hotel Bardo, Southern Cross Hospitality, Perry Lane), executive sous chef Shannon Koprivich, and front-of-house manager Justin Stevenson, with bartenders including James Nowicki and Sebastián Montero-Hernández. The hotel pairs Savannah’s famed hospitality with culinary ambition: dishes are described as loaded with vibrant herbs and veggies and as “jewel-toned” and refreshing; lunch standouts include a smoked salmon tartine, a crispy chicken sandwich, and a mortadella roll served on Flora and Fauna bread. As Savoy puts it, "There's no club sandwich or Caesar salad. That's intentional." For a quieter experience, morning offerings include a Carolina Gold rice porridge described as "a combination of currants, coconut, carrot, and pistachio that tastes like a cross between overnight oats and carrot cake," and a “Fancy Omelet” noted for its cheese pull. The property will also add a basement cocktail den this fall timed for the SCAD Savannah Film Festival." - Colleen McNally Arnett

A Review of Municipal Grand in Savannah | Hotels Above Par

"Occupying the 1961-built First Federal Savings and Loan Association building at the corner of Broughton and Abercorn in the Savannah Historic District, Municipal Grand reimagines its midcentury bones with a modern twist: AAmp Studio redesigned the 44-key hotel for Midnight Auteur (the hospitality brand from the founders of Death & Co., who also launched The Ramble Hotel), and the rooms vary in midcentury character with hardwood floors, rich jewel tones, curved furnishings, dimmable lights, and sleek Zia-tiled bathrooms. Because this is a temple that booze built, cocktail supplies and books by the founders decorate the bar, which functions as a living-room-style hub where guests and locals sip welcome cocktails at check-in, grab brunch (the crispy chicken sando is a menu highlight), or enjoy a martini before dinner; there’s also a chic rooftop with a pool, striped seating, umbrellas, and a bar for city views, plus amenities like in-room dining, valet, a fitness studio, and a year-round rooftop pool, making the overall vibe a booze-forward boutique hangout celebrated for its social atmosphere and strong drinks." - Lindsay Cohn

I recently stayed at The Municipal Grand in Savannah and it was truly an unforgettable experience. On the second night of their opening, I found myself sitting at the bar and ended up chatting for hours with the owners. They were so friendly, fun and incredibly generous, even sharing some of their personal wine with me—a gesture that made me feel so welcome and appreciated. During that same evening, I was introduced to the General Manager and several other staff members, all of whom were genuinely kind, down-to-earth, and passionate about what they’re creating here. The hospitality felt sincere and personal, which is so rare and special. The hotel itself is stunning—a perfect example of quiet luxury with impeccable attention to detail, yet surprisingly affordable. The food was excellent, and the cocktails were even better. And don’t miss the rooftop pool—it’s a charming little escape with beautiful views, ideal for unwinding. I can’t recommend The Municipal Grand enough. It’s clear that the owners and team have poured their hearts into this place, and it shows in every detail. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

I want to truly thank Frank Savoy for the wonderful dining experience. My wife and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at the restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with an intimate setting that made the evening feel special. From the moment we walked in, the host greeted my wife and me with a smile and promptly showed us to our table. The service throughout the night was exceptional and the entire staff was amazing. Our server, Tia, was especially helpful. She patiently answered our questions about the menu and made great recommendations. The appetizers, entrees, and drinks were all absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. Every dish was cooked to perfection. I look forward to returning and will definitely be recommending this restaurant to family and friends. A truly memorable evening!

We had a fantastic stay during our road trip. This hotel was a gem! From the moment we checked in, Victoria and her team made us feel completely welcome with their kindness and genuine hospitality. The rooms were spotless, stylish, and super comfortable. The rooftop pool was the cherry on top. Quiet, relaxing, and reserved just for guests (love!). A peaceful escape right in the heart of the city. We’ll definitely be back!

I would like to start by saying staff is incredible, drinks are great, but kinda disappointed in the lack of creativity with the food menu. I was truly expecting newer exciting dishes being brought to Savannah but it seems like the same recycled formula of menus all over town, nothing unique to itself that sets them apart from other places literally down the street that are selling the same dishes at better prices. The food is prepared well but it’s nothing that excites me or makes me crave coming back for more. It’s just highly disappointing after so much hype.

What a fantastic addition to Savannah’s historic district! This beautifully renovated municipal building has been transformed into a wonderful hotel that perfectly balances historic preservation with modern hospitality. The conversion is impressive - they’ve clearly put care into maintaining the architectural character while creating a welcoming space for visitors. It’s great to see historic buildings given new life rather than sitting empty. This is exactly the kind of thoughtful development that enhances Savannah’s charm and gives visitors more options to experience the city’s rich history. A real asset to the community and tourism.

My wife and I stopped in last night and had a total blast! The cocktails were fantastic, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere is dynamite. Brand new and already leading the cocktail game in Savannah. It's chill yet fancy, which is an odd combo but works! As a lifetime local, I'll say right now that out of all Savannah has to offer, this is top of the list. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed my stay at Municipal Grand. The design is gorgeous—mid-century details mixed with a fresh, modern feel. The lobby bar + restaurant had a great atmosphere, and the staff were welcoming and attentive without feeling over the top. Perfect location for exploring Savannah on foot. Would definitely come back.
