Where To Eat Near The Science Museum, The V&A, & The Natural History Museum

"We don’t know who Muriel is, but we imagine she bakes fresh fruit scones daily, exclusively wears Cath Kidston prints, and refers to everyone she knows as ‘lovely’. This all-day bistro has got you covered whether you’re after banana and ricotta pancakes at 8am, or afternoon scones between museums. It also works just as well for a takeout coffee as for a sit-down situation." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Muriel’s Kitchen Review - Kensington - London - The Infatuation

"Muriel’s Kitchen is cute. It’s home-county cute. It’s doodles of milkshakes on the menu cute. Serving afternoon tea with homemade scones cute. A three-minute walk from South Kensington station, well, that’s just very practical. This place is a perfect spot for a sit-down coffee with the parents. Sure, the food isn’t going to cause any epiphanies, but Muriel’s isn’t about mad spices and flaming cocktails. This is about nice, filling food, and wine by the glass, in a chilled spot that makes you forget all about the flock of tourists outside." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

It’s a nice place to unwind with a snack and a cup of coffee after enjoying the exhibitions. The atmosphere is very inviting, with welcoming decor that creates a pleasant backdrop for relaxation.

Food is of high quality and healthy and vegetarian options are available. If you take the mixed salads they will allow you to substitute if there is a salad you don’t like. They are all fabulous but the broccoli and Chinese peas need more blanching. They are very tough. The cakes and pies look good but have only average taste. The pecan pie sits on an industrial base. The prices are very expensive for a self service. You could cross the street and have a served meal for the same price. Tables are tiny and there is no room for bags. Easiest access is through the handicap access but you need a ticket to do so if not handicapped.

Stopped by to have some tea/ hot chocolate. This place is relaxing to sit after seeing some artworks. I didn’t eat anything here as I was too full after lunch but the cakes and the hot food looked nice but quite expensive. The restrooms are ultra clean. The seating area is spaced out and the seats comfortable. It’s ok here…. Not too bad.

Took a break here after seeing all the wonderful artwork in National Gallery. The honey glazed chicken and salad were delicious and the scone with flat white were delightful!

Had 2 orders of the same thing and a cappucino after visiting the portrait museum and national gallery: the smell of the fresh food as we were about to exit called out to us and we were glad to have dined here! Salmon is too dry and overcooked but salads were balanced in flavour and lovely. Of course expensive at 16 pounds each plate.

While museum entrance is free your wallet won't catch a break in this cafe. £4.25 for a matcha latte, which comes in a tiny cup. Tastes ok but I would dodge this place and have a coffee elsewhere. Just too expensive.

Absolutely heaving, people sitting elbow to elbow with more patrons milling about trying to find a seat. Pastries were expensive, dry, and mediocre. Staff were really rude! I tried to use a communal water jug to partially fill my bottle and was told I had to trek through the gallery to use a water fountain. This was after queuing 20 mins to enter the gallery (staff wouldn’t get off her personal phone call to let me know if there was a separate entrance for the cafe). I used to love coming here a few years ago and now feel let down.

Positives: Convenient location and nice seating. There were some Vegan options (though only flapjack in sweets) which isn't a given. Negatives: staff were barely responsive. Absolutely ludicrously priced. I had thought the displayed bowl of salad was one portion. When I asked for two of them the (unresponsive) staff member got out a set of scales and weighed a few tablespoons into two tiny bowls. Nearly £8 each and barely big enough to be a side portion. Smothered in oil. I am usually oil free the amount of oil in my mouth made me ill. Ordered an Oatmilk latte to go with it. Positive: they use Oatly not Alpro which is horrible. The coffee itself was one of the nicest I've had. Smooth, mellow, non-bitter, slightly sweet. Negative: served, I kid you not, in a tiny water glass on a tiny saucer. For a latte for nearly £4?? It was barely two sips. Would never go back.
