Where to Eat: Franklin Park (1 Franklin Park Rd.) — Boston’s biggest and best park — is just several blocks from the restaurant. Explore the old bear cages (don’t worry, they’re empty now), and hit the zoo after you’ve finished your oxtail. Google
I'm visiting from New York and decided to try this place based on the good reviews and they did not disappoint. Ordered takeout... side order of the oxtails which was exceptional along with side orders of the jerk Mac and cheese/jerk chicken and it was awesome. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Google
So happy I found this place! I'm in Cambridge but will definitely be driving in once a month to grab dinner here. Place is clean. Just left with the oxtail mac and cheese and veggie patty. Couldn't finish the Mac so now I have lunch for tomorrow but it was good. 😊

Google
I order takeout from Murl's when I want a balanced meal with Carribean flavors. The jerk chicken is seasoned beautifully, and they scoop extra of the sauce into the container when I order a plate so I can douse my rice in the deliciousness. The oxtail is always fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful. The veggies are always seasoned perfectly, and cooked so that they still have a bite to them (never mushy)! The mac and cheese never disappoints. I am always satisfied ordering from here!! <3

Google
Horrible customer service. The “owner” Dave took no accountability for how he handled our catering order. We ordered a head of time, paid in advance, provided clear instructions, and gave a specific time to deliver. He failed to answer our calls, “dropped some of our order” argued with me when questioned about things, threatened to cancel our order and take away the food after arriving over an hour late. He claimed he did not have a contact number for us when it’s on the invoice. He was terrible and despite the food, I will never support this company or have my agency do so either. Smh. The lack of professionalism and audacity.

I went to the zoo and refused to pay the zoo prices for food. I discovered a review that said that Murl’s Kitchen has the best mac and cheese ever. I had to check it out. As it turns out they were right! Murl’s Kitchen is a neighborhood gem with excellent Jamaican cuisine. They have a stocked cooler with a wide selection of Jamaican beverages. The food was priced well, the portions were huge, and the selection was large. The service was friendly and helpful. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the Mac and cheese was just as good as other people mentioned. Don’t miss out on this treasure!

Google
My family and I stayed in an Airbnb around the area and we were looking for a place to pick up dinner after driving over 4 hours from New York. We found this place on Google, saw the reviews, and decided to eat from here. I ordered the goat curry with a side of vegetables and rice. I also tried the jerk chicken Mac n cheese my family ordered, and the fried fish my fiance ordered. Everything I ate from here was delicious! It was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and they give you a ton of food for a good price. I had leftovers for the ride home! If I ever visit the area again, I'll make sure the eat from here! I wish this restaurant was around my hometown lol

Google
Uber eats delivery- The food was great. Most definitely would eat here again! The jerk pork was amazing. The flavor was on point. The jerk chicken was good. Lacked the spicy part, but good. The curry chicken was good as well. Ordered as an side. The jerk mac and cheese was very flavorful, but wasn't for me. Maybe your taste buds will be different.

Google
Food was disappointing. We drove in from Connecticut for an event and the food dropped the ball completely! We ordered a medium oxtail and jerk chicken plate. Oxtails was small in size for the price and the jerk chicken was dry !!! No jerk sauce, had to come back in and ask for sauce and the jerk sauce tasted horrible .. oxtails were not tender at all, rough in texture and the gravy was dry. Rice and peas wasn’t all that. We are giving them a 2 stars for being open and having food. I don’t live here so I won’t be back regardless but if I’m ever in the area and craving Jamaican food, I’ll look elsewhere. Good luck to this business.

Yelp
THIS IS A MUST TRY. One of my top 3 favorite comfort food spots. Murl's Kitchen is located in Dorchester,MA. A 20 mile drive from home that I never regret. My favorites are the jerk mac & cheese, regular mac & cheese, jerk chicken, plantains, beef patties, stewed chicken, rice & even their mixed veggies are a big hit. They just recently started selling flavored chicken wings & tenders!! I'll try next time & post an update :) There's no parking lot available just limited off street parking. There's also no seating available inside, but that's okay with me. Place can get packed (& that's how you know it's delicious)! Staff is super friendly too. Just trust me.

Breanne R.

Yelp
I've been hearing about this place for years but never got around to trying it. I finally had it through uber eats and it was delicious! The rasta pasta is worth the hype! The snapper was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. However, to me it gave more Alfredo than rasta pasta, but it was still worth it. The portions were also great! Whoever packed our plates did them with love. I will definitely be ordering again.

Espresso T.

Yelp
The food is super salty! Beware! I eat heavily spiced and seasoned food regularly, but the salt level of food at this place is really too high. The jerk chickn mac and cheese was good (can't say amazing), but WAY too salty. The curry goat plate was also too salty. The prices are very decent and you get a good portion. I would give them a 3 stars now and don't think I could tolererate this salt level...

Tina M.

Yelp
Omg the jerk Mac and cheessseeeeeeeeeee I came in for the Rasta pasta but it was on the wrong day for that so I took the Mac instead and I am so glad I did. I didn't try much as this was my first time but I can't wait to come back and try more. The place was packed and people were ordering from all over the menu so I KNOW the food is bomb. It's lit my friends people's live right up the block, I look forward to coming back again especially to try the Rasta pasta!

Miles S.

Yelp
Murl's isn't a huge sit down spot but that's because the majority of the space is their gigantic kitchen, where their focus is, on the food. From oxtail to lobster tail and jerk mac and cheese it's a homerun derby of a menu. Once that mac & cheese is gone for the day though it's gone, so take note and get there early. Sizzling sauces and cauldrons of homemade sauces create endless dishes filled with rice and fresh vegetables to pair with hearty meals. Try everything from here. Thank me later, follow me now, stay eatin' bruh!

Shaleah T.

Yelp
Murls is consistently consistent. I normally go here for oxtail mac & cheese and your regular average beef patty. I go maybe once every 3-4 weeks and I promise you every time I go the food is fresh, amazing, and flavorful. Sometimes you might have to wait a little bit to get the food but hey, the flavor and taste is worth it. I recommend going not during rush-hour and if you want the oxtail mac & cheese, I recommend you go before they sell out because they always always sell out. Go try Murls and tell them Leah/Mrs. T sent you!

Matt S.

Yelp
Went here for a quick stop while heading to Boston. Was really in the mood to try some authentic Jamaican food. The shop is pretty tiny with the only option being take out. Out of the curry chicken and jerk chicken plate. I would recommend the curry plate. The rice was average in my opinion and the chicken was decent. The jerk chicken tasted like there was a particular seasoning that was completely dumped on the chicken. This made that chicken dry and unpleasant to eat. The plantains were good on the side. My experience wasn't the best but perhaps yours will differ.

Denisha F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood restaurant! Jamaican food with an American flair. Best part is it's not too Americanized. The jerk chicken Mac and cheese sells out quick and you gotta know what time it comes out or you'll be waiting 20 minutes lol. It's meant to be a side but can serve as a meal. As you can see, I also had a full meal which was sensational. These were two different trips. I'm telling you, once you try you'll keep coming back.

Reese C.

Yelp
So I visited Murls again today only for the Jerk Mac. I called ahead not to waste time making the trip and they were sold out! Well I secure my 2 orders of jerk Mac. Customer service a 2 out of 10 they have young people in the front with attitudes who are unwelcoming at the most! I get home and start to enjoy my jerk Mac and to my disappointment I could taste that it's not fresh at all, but pre made, frozen , and then reheated. Only reason why I could tell is cause you can tastes the unfrost after taste in the jerk Mac. I understand the inflation of cost of groceries is going up right now, but this is just horrendous. You're making ppl pay $7.00 for days old jerk Mac that you freeze then reheat is disgusting and disrespectful ! Don't worry I will never return to your premises as the rest of your menu is disgusting . I'll go elsewhere from now on!!!!

Gasp I.

Yelp
I really like this place but the lack of consistency is soooo annoying- especially when we have such a small amount of black businesses to support in Boston. They are advertised to be open and they aren't - or they have stuff on the menu online and then they don't have it - SMDH and do better PLEASE!!!!!

Ashely Maria A.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time recently and it was super delicious. I really wanted a beef patty however they ran out. The woman who called to inform us was really nonchalant and told us we could not get anything on the menu for the price of the Pattie's aside from drinks. It just came off real snobbish. Other than that, the salmon was super good as well as the stew chicken plate. The mac & cheese jerk, we could have went without. The appearance was really nice but there was no jerk, super spicy and the taste was just bland. We will definitely be back though to try different plates. They are worth it.

Amina R.

Yelp
Pass by this spot frequently however, today was the day I stopped in only to find a hidden gem. The place from the outside doesn't do just to the bright walls and smell of flavors inside. I was happy to have others with me so I could get a taste of a few things here and boy I was pleased. As many others call out , the Jerk Mac and cheese is amazing.... definitely going on the comfort food list. To jo surprise it's also one of those items that goes before the end of the day, so plan on getting there way before close to try it. I also tried the jerk Rasta pasta. It was really good. Definitely had a kick, I could feel the heat after 3 bites. Can't wait to go back and give the oxtails a try.

Nasarah M.

Yelp
Small location but worth the visit! Food is always bomb, I always get the small oxtail and am very full after. Ask for extra gravy on the rice always! Service is fast, the line kept moving.

Josiah H.

Yelp
Always out of something, whether it's big or small. Take forever to serve a customer; doesn't even matter what the service is. The inside of the restaurant is alright.

Sweet4real C.

Yelp
Murl's knows how to make delicious food! The food is 100% authentic and 1 million % delicious. The 1st time I tried Murl's, I knew I had to have my Fam try it too since they never eat Jamaican cuisine from restaurants or from anybody that is not related to us. When my Fam tried the food they had nothing but good things to say about the it, i.e. cooking skills, freshness, seasoning, texture, they had NOT one bad thing to say and that's really saying a lot from my family since they're the best cooks I have ever known. I couldn't believe it how much they liked Murl's food. THIS RESTAURANT make DELICIOUS, FRESH, MADE WITH HEART Food and they get two hugh Thumbs Up. Keep up the Great work Murl's, don't change anything about your food, you have the Formula!!!!

Shaun L.

Yelp
I love oxtail in any style and Murl's didn't disappoint. It was tender, flavorful and reasonably priced. I got the oxtail plate with the rice and beans (not sure why Uber eats says rice and peas) and veggies. The oxtail is a dish you should eat with rice because it is on the saltier side. The rice and beans offset the salt, the oxtail meat is tender and the veggies add a nice crunch with every fork full. Wifey got the jerk chicken plate with rice and beans and plantains. The plantains were good, I've been disappointed by so many places I was afraid murls would let me down, but they surely did not. The chicken was very flavorful with a nice kick but also a little too salty. The person who recommended Murl's to us suggested the Goat curry, so we got a side of it. It was really good! I thought it was better than the oxtail. The goat was a little gamey but was masked but the flavorful curry and boy this meat was even more tender than the oxtail. This might go into our monthly dinner rotation.

Davetta K.

Yelp
It's a no for me! The rice was SUPER bland, the regular mac needed some lawry's but it has potential. The only thing I actually like from here is the salmon. People rave about the jerk mac so I may try that but it's a big maybe.

Winnie Z.

Yelp
The jerk mac and cheese lives up to alllll the hype. Perfectly cooked and cheesy with a kick too! For a side, the portions were very generous. One thing to note: I had called ahead to place an order of mac and cheese for pick up but they said they didn't take orders for that over the phone. Must be because it's so popular! Also got the jerk chicken with rice which was very good. Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend this place!

Tracei G.

Yelp
Listen! Listen!! This place is so amazing!!! I've ordered a few times- ok, maybe 10x from Murl's via Uber eats! Their veggies are so tasty and crunchy! What I love is this place decided to put their own spin on Caribbean dishes.... by offering Various Rasta Pasta dishes on Fridays/Saturdays. Hands down one of my new favorite places!!! long live Murl's and lighters to the Chef! Pictured: Oxtail Rasta Pasta

D M.

Yelp
Only one Jamaican restaurant has the best oxtails entree hands down. Jus ordered a small plate plus delivery came out to be 34$. The oxtail sauce tasted like jerk sauce to me. And the portions is 80% rice 20% oxtail. Ate a lil bit because I was not feeling the sauce. Not satisfied. Last time ordering here

Edward L.

Yelp
Amazing corner spot in Dorchester. Bright and clean and COVID-proof. Had the oxtail, rice and peas and vegetables. All were outstanding. Excellent heat and spice on the oxtail. Can't figure out how they get their vegetables to be a warm as they are but still crunchy and flavorful. Hits the sweet-spot between raw and cooked. Went back and had the jerk mac and cheese. Its as good as everyone says. Nice heat on the lips and SO tasty. Definitely heading back for rasta pasta one upcoming weekend. Really friendly staff. The picture of "Murl" at the register is a classic and adds a homey touch to this great restaurant.

Imani R.

Yelp
I heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out. I got jerk Mac and cheese and jerk pork and both were sooo good! I ate most of the pork before the picture, I will definitely be back. *Update* I told my family and friends about this place and it's so good, they've gone multiple times. The jerk Mac and cheese is really something special.

Ani A.

Yelp
this place is SO. GOOD. Yes, you might have to wait a little depending on how busy they are, but everything from their patties and coco bread to their curry goat and jerk mac and cheese is more than enough to keep me coming back. I also love that you're able to order online, the restaurant always looks clean, and you can tell they work hard to make sure everything they put out is just as good as the last plate.

Troy H.

Yelp
Excellent service, super friendly, extremely Clean (Covid-19 where).. The flavor profiles are amazing in my opinion with everything paired together complimenting each other elegantly.. A Delight for the Palate...

Shivonne M.

Yelp
jerk Mac is sooooo good however the Rasta Pasta has been very dry lately

Claribel A.

Yelp
The food is delicious!! I can't complain because every time I order I'm always satisfied.

Ronald K.

Yelp
Jerk Mac and cheese is so good, moist with a little kick of spice. Salmon was a a little fishy but the pasta was good.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Baby!! This food is so flavorful. I know the go to item is rasta pasta and the snapper. We wanted fried seafood and every other restaurant was far. My friend recommended this place. I'm upset that i didn't try it earlier!! We ordered feted haddock, fried shrimp, Mac and cheese and a meat patty. Everything was so tasty.. i love how they fried the fish. I do wish there was more fish, but we were still full after eating. I'll definitely be ordering from here again.

Nina C.

Yelp
We got catering for an event and the food was absolutely delicious!! Great service and amazing food, you won't be disappointed!

Jee-Hyun S.

Yelp
The food is SO GOOD. I recommend the patties with coco bread, jerk mac and cheese (which is more creamy than cheesy but really yummy nonetheless), and any of the main plates. Best West Indian food in the neighborhood (that you can get from a restaurant, anyway), in my humble opinion. Service is spotty though. I've waited a long time for a small order while staff looked to be taking their time. Once we had to go back after we left the store because they forgot our plantains -- just straight up left an empty compartment in the container where the plantains were supposed to go. Granted, they did give us a fairly generous portion of plantains when we told them. I just wish they were a bit more consistent. I'll keep going back for the food though!

Nicole W.

Yelp
‍ I am so disappointed. When I first came here their jerk pork was favorite. Now their jerk pork is a pork chop‍ today I ordered jerk chicken. Ummmm first all it was a dry chicken breast cut up with no skin. I don't know what happen to this place but the inconsistency is too much.

GK M.

Yelp
****Worth every single ounce of hype.**** The most important thing to note is the freshness. Everything tasted like it had been cooked to order. Their chicken is exactly what jerk chicken should be. The vegetables were thinly sliced but overcooked. My rice was soft and flavorsome. The jerk mac and cheese is actually a really well balanced dish. And they use cavatappi noodles so everything is wrapped in that ridiculously delicious sauce. They've got a new regular.

Diane C.

Yelp
Omg are you kidding me!!! This food is AMAZINGLY delicious!!! You can taste the LOVE in the food. I'll share the restaurant with everyone I know! It's a MUST try this delicious food restaurant. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK to you all for sharing your family owned business a with us. May God continue to bless you all

Naisha A.

Yelp
Staff is super nice, even when they are close to closing. The jerk mac and cheese is to die for! Always seasoned and spicy to perfection. Even later in the day. The cons are just that there is barely any parking on this street-- come with someone if you can! They don't really let you pre order unless it's a special plate. It's small, clean, and you can see them putting your food together. I'll always come back for that MAC. ‍

Nakia H.

Yelp
The service is excellent! The food is delicious! The team here is so kind. I love all of their seafood options. The mac and cheese is out of this world. Thank you Murl's for upholding an excellent standard.

Nina F.

Yelp
Their portions are smaller than most places, but their Mac and cheese is bomb , I've had all three and they're good. The customer service is really good too. I've had a few other meals and they're were ok but the Mac and cheese is probably the best thing they serve way better than the other places around.

Markia J.

Yelp
This spot was recommended by a colleague and I see why! I love Jamaican food and my fiancé and I were excited to try this spot out! We got the jerk mac & cheese, jerk pork served w/ cabbage and rice & peas. Everything was good! The mac & cheese is a must try. The pork is tender and seasoned great, the cabbage I want more it's so yummy! Can't wait until next time we will be trying again!

Margaret A.

Yelp
I learned of your establishment from getting my hair done in a beauty shop. Beauticians and some of the clients were doing a food run to your restaurant. My beautician said your daily soup options are tasty. One of the customers was raving over your Rasta Pasta and Jerk mac and cheese. I did not know such a thing existed .With that said, I had to check it out. So me and my hubby made the journey from Weymouth to get dinner. It was worth the drive. The only thing is could you cut back on the salt in your food preparation. Us Black and Brown folks has to be aware of sodium intake with high-blood pressure conditions. Just a suggestion to beware of. We will be back to try some of your other meals. It is really hard to get REAL good Jamaican food. I wish you all the best success in your endeavors. Irie!

Adonis L.

Yelp
Hands down this is the best AUTHENTIC Jamaican food in Boston. Fried Shrimp is . Jerk Mac is out of this world. Rasta Pasta has the finest kickback. Do not sleep on the food here, I always come back!

Eric H.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!! The jerk pork was SO tender and delicious. Mac & cheese amazing too. First time order and DEFINITELY will be back!! Thank you!!!

Zack D.

Yelp
One of the great take-out spots between Grove Hall and 4 Corners. Huge servings, and the Jerk Mac & Cheese is a requirement.

Deidre M.

Yelp
This place has the best Jamaican food this side of Boston! I've tried mostly everything but my absolute favorite is the jerk pork and the fresh veggies! If your looking for GOOD FOOD go here

Ira F.

Yelp
While doing Uber eats I made a few deliveries from here. It smelt so good I wanted to try it. The food was not bad but it was not the best Jamaican food I've tasted. The next day we heated up our left overs and the veggies had soured souring the rest of the plate with it. I definitely wouldn't try them again.

Kurt C.

Yelp
I come here often, stew chicken, curry chicken, salmon plate, jerk chicken. All hit the spot, prob going there tomorrow or something

Lei C.

Yelp
I got the jerk Mac and Cheese ... GET THE JERK MAC AND CHEESE! So good!! Everything we ordered was great tho .. you can't go wrong with anything you order...

Cedes M.

Yelp
Came to Boston to visit and stopped in this place . Food was amazing ! Prices were awesome and the place was very clean .

Katherine P.

Yelp
Amazing food, we came all the way from Lowell and were stunned by the jerk mac and cheese! I was so impressed and was planning to come back as soon as I could! The next time I got the opportunity, my boyfriend and I decided we would go back and get some mac and cheese before we had to go to work. We arrived about an hour after they opened only to find their closed sign on the door. My boyfriend went inside and asked if they were opened, and they said they would be ready to serve food in 30 minutes... really? We didn't have 30 minutes to wait and were so disappointed. The food is great, the inside is clean and modern, but please call beforehand to see if they are actually open, especially if you are coming from far away!

Kurt D.

Yelp
The food at Murl's is executed with perfection. It remind me of my moms food when growing up. I've had the goat, jerk pork, and the oxtail so far and it is a legit 10 out 10. Jerk Mac and cheese, pure genius. This place is a hidden gem. Definitely going back for more. And this is from a guy who is normally critical of west indian restaurants. You have to try it to believe it!

Kiana B.

Yelp
YALL I AM EATING WHILE I LEAVE THIS REVIEW. THE FOOD IS THAT GOOD AND I JUST HAVE TO HYPE THEM UP YALLLLL I ordered from uber eats the jerk Mac and cheese and curry goat plate. I originally wanted the regular Mac but they were sold out. I came on here and checked the reviews and figured I go with the jerk Mac and I'm glad I did y'all first OF ALL THE CABBAGE THAT COME WITH THE CURRY GOAT PLATE?!? BOMB I don't even eat cabbage but theirs is so good with peppers and cucumbers and carrots it just taste like it was made with love. I asked for extra gravy and they hooked ya girl up. The goat was so nice and tender. The jerk Mac was worth the money. The portion was everything. Y'all and to make it better they got the tamper proof stickers they put on the containers. I love it. I'm only ordering Jamaican food from here. UPDATE.... I'm eating the left overs and they taste better than the day before. Bomb. Please add salt fish and ackee to the menuuuu

Sharalis C.

Yelp
Tried their food at the Taste if Dorchester. The jerked Mac and cheese was to die for!!! I went to their table at least 4xs. Their food is very delicious. Reminds me of the Jamaican restaurants in NYC.
