We were in Old Town Alexandria on a Wednesday (which is a good time to visit as the sidewalks are far less crowded than on the weekends). When deciding where to have dinner, we did some research and came upon Murphy's. Since my husband likes the food in Irish Pubs and the prices were reasonable, we decided to give it a try.
We were here around 4:30 p.m. The bar was just about full and a large party was sitting in the dining area. Upon entering, there was no one to seat us and no signage telling us what was up with that. The bartender saw us and said something. Since it was loud in there, we couldn't hear him. Finally, he raised his voice. At the same time, a woman sitting at the bar actually yelled at us! It took a rude greeting to figure that we were to seat ourselves. At that point, I was tempted to walk out of the place.
We picked a spot and at that point, things got better. Our server, Erin, wasted no time coming to our table. She was friendly and efficient. To drink, we both had ginger ale. Then we both ordered Bangers and Mash, which consists of 2 sausages (one was beef, the other pork), mashed potatoes topped with gravy and green peas.
The meal was okay. I liked the pork sausage which had sage in it. The beef one was very bland. The gravy was full bodied and flavorful. My husband gladly ate most of my beef sausage as I didn't care for it.
This was a very reasonably priced dinner, all things considered. Before the tip, it came to just under $30.
We thank Erin for making our dining experience pleasant which more than made up for the rude greeting. A bit of advice to management---put up a sign in the entryway telling customers to seat themselves. It's not that hard to do so. Not everybody who comes in there is a regular...
