Google
Best battered wings in Johnstown!! This was the first place I ate at when I moved here in 2000. I don't live nearly as close, but when you want Great Battered Wings, this is the place to go. I couldn't even tell you what else they serve, if I'm there, I'm getting wings and cold beer!!

Google
Excellent wings, and they have Stella Artois and pickle backs.

Our family, including our little one, enjoyed Murphy's very much! I had a wing and a salad :-) We liked the wings! We want to come back soon. Conveniently located close to the hospital and Roxbury Park. Locally owned and operated by a very nice family.

Decent little spot. Wings were good but not as fresh as I had hoped. Bartender was pleasant. Good experience.

Google
Stopped for wings, which were delicious as always.

Google
Ask for a buffalo chicken cheese steak not a regular menu item. It was the BOMB!!! My stomach very happy

Google
Nice local pub that needs a little TLC. The burgers and fries were great! You forget how great a real burger is with all the fast food. The wings are one of a kind. Large with a crispy outside and a moist, meaty inside. A must if you visit Johnstown.

Google
Murphy’s is the best! I order the same thing every time. The food is great, but the service is even better. They’re so friendly and attentive. 10/10!!!

Yelp
Best wings you will ever have, also ask about making the sauce! People are great. If I'm close I'm eating at Murphy, no question!

Yelp
Great local spot. A time capsule in an old steel mill town. Paul is a great host and bartender. Really enjoyed the visit, and the wings are top notch!

Yelp
Murphy's is absolutely one of those hole-in-the-wall places that makes towns like Johnstown great. It's small and can get rather crowded on busy nights, but it's a staple in town. My fiance and I decided to check this place out after hearing it was the best place in town for wings. Being relatively new to the area, we have been looking for places to check out. Upon arriving, the place was quite full, but we were able to find a table in the corner. We both ordered drinks. I ordered the chicken philly sub and french fries (which were free). We also ordered six wings. Our sandwiches and fries came out first. Our sandwiches were good. I wouldn't tag them as the best I ever had, but good nonetheless. The fries are only good hot. After they get room temperature, they get kinda tasteless and soggy. After a while the wings came out. (Mind you: Murphy's has a claim to fame when it comes to their wings.) I've never had wings quite like these ones. They came out piping hot. The wings are much bigger than the traditional wing dings, and they are coated in Murphy's signature breading. They are crunchy, I'll give you that. I was disappointed that the wings didn't come with any kind of dipping sauce. They were good, but not the best I've ever had. I prefer my wings fried and tossed in sauce, but that's just me. I do, however, understand why people enjoy these wings. Just a note: The wings don't hold up being reheated. Just eat them there.

Yelp
I have been coming to Murphys ever since i was a little boy. And continue to come as a big boy too!!! Murphys wings is family owned and certainly have the best breaded wings in town. Hands down!! The secret is in their homemade breading always made fresh and filled with flavorful spices. The chicken wings are huge and never frozen which helps with taste quality. Each wing is fried to perfection and is crispy as can be which is a huge plus for a wing connoisseur. The next best thing is they brew their own stout here called Murphys stout. A flavorful beverage stout that finishes creamy and is the perfect compliment to wash this amazing poultry down so 5 stars for the above mentioned. The review is an overall 4 stars bc the menu is small. And nothing else on it tastes very memorable. Also the eating area is small and crampy and usually crowded. So wings to go is always a goos idea too.

Yelp
I came here on St Patrick's day, so it was packed. Service was still surprisingly good. We got some pizza and their famous wings. The pizza was good and the toppings were fresh. The wings were actually windings. The thigh and leg are still attached and then they bread it and deep fry it. These aren't your traditional wings because they aren't drenched in sauce. They have bottles of Franks red hot and sriracha on the table. I personally like this way of serving them because I can put on the amount of sauce I desire. This seems like a fun bar to come to for beer and pub grub. I will come back to try more menu items.

Yelp
This may be the best hole in the wall recommendation by a friend I have ever received. You wouldn't know it by looking at the outside but Murphy's has one of the best take on wings I have ever come across. While not your typical wings, there are no flavors to chose from, Murphy's wings are breaded and fried to perfection w hot sauce or sriracha on the table for your use. You order by wing (whole wing) and won't be disappointed. When you break into them you see how moist they are while getting absolute crisp perfection from the breading. The only bad experience I had st Murphy's is when I looked down at my plate and all the wings gone

Yelp
The BEST Breaded wings in town!!! We love to order them occasionally and when we do they hit the spot. Cooked to perfection

Yelp
Great wings! If you want a great place this is the place to be! People are great as well, very personable! I will be returning!! Thank you Murphy!

Yelp
To be blunt, this place was really disappointing. They claim to have the "best wings in Johnstown" and have awards to show it, but if these are the best in town, my advice to those in the mood for wings is to find another town. First, when I hear "wings" I think about little, meaty, and covered in spicy sauces with some originality. These didn't even fit the definition, in my opinion. Anatomically, yes, they're wings, but that's where the similarity ends. These are just fried chicken. Like Josh and Joseph said, they're huge, large-size-adult-chicken wings, deep fried in over-used, old oil. They're greasy, and mine were overdone. They serve them to you just like that, with a bottle of Frank's red hot, and a bottle of Sriracha. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Frank's and Sriracha as much as the next heat-lover, but serving fried chicken with a bottle of hot sauce does not a wing make. And even if you just look at them in the "fried chicken" category, they're not very good. I ordered mine with a side of fries which were nothing special either. Service was meh, and I haven't been back to try the rest of the menu, so I can't speak to that. Visit Murphy's with caution.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid and the wings are a must have!! Love the small bar atmosphere and can' t miss this place on St Pattys day! Food is great and so is the bar, Paul the owner makes everyone feel like a regular... a must stop when in Johnstown

Yelp
You need to go here for wings. Murphy's has the honor of having the "Best wings in Johnstown" in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Yeah, you noticed that too huh? The space-time continuum must have been misaligned in 1994, that 's the only thing I can think of. These aren't your typical little hot wings. These are big, breaded, fried things that look like they were ripped off of Zok from the Herculoids. Betcha can't eat just one, but I also betcha can't eat more than a half a dozen or so. I like 'em best with the Srirachi sauce. I've never eaten anything else here - oh except the fries. That's like going to Coney Island and getting a grilled cheese.

Yelp
Excellent wings. Yes they are naked and big. First time I came I was questioning why the garlic salt and Sriracha sauce were at the table. After looking around i saw customers getting these hot smoking wings and putting garlic salt and sriracha on the wings. Soon my wings came out and that is when I discovered a new way to eat wings. Awesome. Now every time i come back to the area we make a special trip to Murphys for my standard order or 1/2 dozen wings, fries with gravy(Western PA thing) and a cold draft Yuengling.

Adam T.

Yelp
This place is terrible. We went on a Friday night and the dining room wasn't full. There was one person waiting on 12 tables. It took 40 minutes for the first food to come out. Yes, first food. Then, later the other 4 of six dinners came out. Who wants to watch the rest of the table eat?? The food came out in courses. Like here's your burger, then 10 minutes later, here's your fries. Food was mediocre too. Do yourself a favor and avoid.

Yelp
By far the best wings I've ever had. They are large and the breading is amazing. I usually just put a little dusting of garlic salt on mine and dig in. Now that Coney Island is gone Murphy's wings have to be the most signature food of Johnstown.

Joe S.

Yelp
I've been coming to Murphy's for 20 years. The wings are fantastic & a J-Town staple! Probably the only thing better than the wings is talking with the owner Paul while you eat them & enjoy a cold beer. If you don't like this place, I'm guessing you won't be missed.

Yelp
The wings are very good. However, if you're starving, this is not the place to go. It takes a very long time (about 45 min to an hour) to get your food. But that's what I come to expect from a tiny bar with not many cooks. That being said, the food is very good. They have THE best french fries and brown gravy of anywhere.

Nicole E.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Murphy's but my experience was less than ideal. The wings ARE HUGE, that being said they are also flavorless. I knew they were "naked" but I expected them to have some kind of flavor, not just flour and old oil. We had to wait an hour for them, and the seating area was so cold with a door opening right in the middle. Our waitress was not very friendly but I wouldn't be either with the entire restaurant as my section. The price is a little high, $30 got us a dozen wings, an order of fries and cheese sticks and Diet Coke. Not sure why the place is so popular. Food is just OK, service is unfriendly and lacking, and the ambience leaves a lot to be desired. Save your money, there are too many good restaurants in Johnstown to waste it here.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a little kid to get wings. Honestly, don't worry about looking at the menu, just get the wings. These aren't little wee chicken wings covered in sauce. These are delicious fried behemoths. I've had some friends who really don't like them, but Murphy's wing are, and have always been my favorite.

Kate B.

Yelp
The wings are pretty unique and really good. However the service when eating in house is very slow as it's usually quite understaffed. Inside is very dive-like in atmosphere but a bit too much on the dark and dingy.

Yelp
These wings are the best wings I've ever had! Go there all the time when I'm in Johnstown, absolutely amazing! It's a place you must go.

Sean M.

Yelp
We love going here for food. My wife gets the huge breaded wings and I usually get burgers or chicken tenders, and fries. Pros: Well made food. Good pricing. Cons: Food usually takes awhile to make, but not to big a deal.

Yelp
Murphy's is just a Johnstown institution, and there is no other way to put it. The wings are something I have grown up with, and it is truly some of the best eats in all of Johnstown. The service is always good, especially when Murph himself is there (which is almost always). I always go for wings, and usually don't even bother with anything else. I have heard good things about the Burgers. I've had the steak sandwich a few times, and it is tasty. But wings are the name of the game. 8 wings, and a few Yuengling's and I'm usually content, but not everyone may have my appetite. My tip: garlic salt and a little Siracha sauce. Nothing more.

Rick T.

Yelp
Best wings in Johnstown...they win almost every year. These are super big, full, wings. I'm a big guy and usually order 4. Definitely try some of the garlic salt and hot sauce. And, of course, they have Murhphy's Irish stout on tap!

Marianna C.

Yelp
Hands down the best wings I've ever had. Ever. They are always hot, juicy, and have the best breading that I don't think anyone else could ever replicate. If you're going to treat yourself and can spare yourself some calories, Murphy's is where you should spend em! :)

Kristen G.

Yelp
I sent the owner (Paul Murphy) a Facebook message about a recent visit. No response. That's fine, my $ spends elsewhere that's for certain. He has one main waitress that is as SLOW as MOLASSES. We waited 10-15 minutes for a table. She has NO sense of urgency whatsoever to get people waited upon or cashed out. She will take your initial order and that's that. You won't see her again until she delivers your food, and then she slaps it down and walks away without any question of needing anything else. She disappeared this particular evening for about 10 minutes. She SUCKS as a waitress. This isn't an isolated incident, this occurs EVERYTIME you eat there. Told him I would be ordering food to go from now on. Obviously he doesn't care if we come back or not, so we'll be going elsewhere. No parking and the dining room is very small and dirty.

Jim D.

Yelp
First of all, the other reviews who state "awards" for "best wings, etc" is by the local newspaper. Restaurants pay a nice fee to have their food judged and awards are given.....and it's usually to whoever pays the most to enter into a specific category. This is fried chicken folks.....and it's not even good fried chicken. It's tasteless and bland & fried in dirty oil. Have tried them at various times to give them the benefit of doubt. One night they tasted like fish (same old oil to fry the fish), other nights they were burnt to a crisp with little meat and mostly breading. The beer is cold and the place is cheap which would account for poor quality of food. If you're looking for a place where the patrons vomit on the floor, defecate in the bathroom trash cans, blatantly sell drugs in the open and start fights, then this place is perfect for you. If you want a good meal with friendly staff & patrons, then go elsewhere.

Rosemary K.

Yelp
The best wings and cold, cold, cold Yuengling in Johnstown. They have been the same for years, absolutely delicious! Go there! You won't be sorry!!

Ricky D.

Yelp
I'm not even a fan of wings, and I'll say these things are b*tchin'... One of the few places I don't order boneless

Kristen F.

Yelp
Wings are good. However, I will never go back. The owner, Murph, came to my table when I paid for my meal. I waited about 15 mins and he never returned with my change and was no where to be fund!! I guess that's one way to get a $13 tip.
