"A long-standing pillar of the Squirrel Hill Jewish community since 1967, this neighborhood kosher store has anchored local life even as the area has diversified with new eateries." - ByMike Scalise

Google
Murray Ave Kosher is a wonderful grocery store! The cooking/food aroma the moment you walk into the store is mouthwatering, and that delectable scent brings me back to some precious childhood family memories. The stock and selection of Kosher foods in the store is excellent. The prices are reasonable, in line with other supermarkets, and less expensive than ordering the shelf stable items online which I’ve had to do for many years, especially when shopping for specific holiday items. The staff is friendly and helpful. My husband and I are recent Pittsburgh transplants, with original roots in NYC. We’ve lived in a couple of other places in between, and this is the first time in a very long time we’ve had the pleasure in being in a Kosher market such as Murray Ave Kosher is. Thank you for being the fantastic small, local business that you are. We’ve stopped in a few times since moving here, and we certainly will be back.

Correction: pastrami and and corned beef sandwiches. Meat was piled only in the middle of the bread so it looked like there was abundant meat on the sandwich. A dollop of Mustard was applied only to the center of the bread - not spread at all. Pickle was bad - I threw it away. Two tiny leaves of lettuce with one skinny tomato slice. Grocery shelves were not stocked well. I won’t return.

Amazing. Everything I have ordered has been fantastic. The turkey bagel sandwich had so much turkey on it I split it with someone else. Customer service is excellent. Such a great addition to the wonderful stores on Murray Ave

Compared to the other small specialty grocery stores in Pittsburgh, they had a good selection. They have wines from a lot of countries and regions. All the food I got was fresh. I think I had the cashier that someone said yelled at them. He reminded me of people I know that are neurodivergent because he had very direct communication and a particular way of packing bags which he did very well.

I am someone who grew up in Brooklyn New York , a place that is full of kosher supermarkets. I once needed to go to Pittsburgh . Although the Jewish population is nowhere the size of new York. And the size those who only eat kosher is even smaller. And also being far away from other sizable Jewish communities. I was blown away from the amount of kosher products for even the most stringent kosher consumers available. They literally have everything from dairy to meat ,fish ,deli bakery ,takeout ,and everything in between. And everything was delicious. Keep up your great work!

Google
Murray Ave Kosher helped cater after we had a funeral for my grandma. We placed our order on Monday and they delivered it on time on Tuesday - acting quickly. They knew exactly what we needed and helped provide everything we needed to make it a one stop shop. They provided the food, plates / napkins / silverware / etc., drinks. They were extremely helpful during this difficult time and all the food was very well done. Would absolutely use them 10/10 times.

Being the only kosher grocery in the area, MAK aims to please their customers. They recently expanded the store and added much more variety to accommodate the growing community. Their meat and dairy products are always fresh, as well as their bakery goods, and if they don’t have what you’re looking for they will do their best to order it. Pesach time is especially well stocked for those who follow different customs. Last and far from least, the kosher wine selection is expansive and reasonably priced. I have to say that the staff is always helpful and cheery. Glad that MAK is a part of the Pittsburgh community.

Google
I've had mixed feelings about MAK and the cleanliness and freshness but now with the health department order I'm really disappointed and scared to shop here. They need to empty the store and completely redo every inch and let there be absolute transparency in how things are run and kept before they can get me back as a customer. I'll be stocking up out of town on many of my kosher needs now.

Yelp
Without even shopping here, you can bet I never will. Price gouging is a terrible practice. Herr's Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips 12oz. The price everywhere = $3.88. Murray Avenue Kosher price = $5.59. I don't believe anything is worth a 36.11% mark up. Greed is a bad thing.

Yelp
First time shopping here and I was concerned given reviews I had read about service and cleanliness. Store was cleaner than Trader Joe's and giant eagle. Product selection was diverse and shelves well stocked. When I had a question about a product they were more than happy to help! Definitely recommend shopping here for kosher groceries!

Yelp
Murray Avenue Kosher I really the only Kosher supermarket around. It is on the small side as far as supermarkets go. They only carry kosher foods and items. I found the prices to be higher than the Giant Eagle across the street. If you have to have kosher then this is the place you have to go especially for meats and stuff. I am not a big fan of kosher but when my daughters come to visit I have to shop there. There is no customer service so if you are looking for something you are basically out of luck. I was there yesterday and they already have a huge passover section set up, more than half the store is set up for strictly passover items. I would go there again. If you are in the need for a strictly kosher supermarket then Murray Avenue is the place to go.

Yelp
Picked up our holiday comfort foods and then some. The imported sweet gefilte fish was just right, not too sweet. Hanukkah gelt galore. Their challah was 1/2 price on Sunday but I had no immediate need for French toast. Enjoyed turkey pastrami for sandwiches. They added more floor space so there's a lot of stuff t choose from. It's not close to us but always enjoy the experience

Yelp
I went here for chopped liver. I also bought wonderful bagels, something called beoli's I think. It's a bagel type thing with cooked onions in it. LOVED THEM. I also got matzo balls, chicken noodle soup & chick pea salad. It was all great. Worth the trip.

Yelp
There is no doubt that Baltimore is an epicenter of Jewish life. This translates to a plethora of shopping options for those keeping kosher. However, for those who enjoy a partaking in fromage with kosher rennet are out of luck. The best you can do is a brick of waxy orange Miller's cheddar. So, it was to my great delight when my friend took me to Murray Avenue Kosher. It's not the flashiest of markets, but it certainly has a wide assortment of products for a relatively small Jewish community. I bought the following items which I have not yet found in my hometown: Cheddar - England Brie - Quebec Kashkaval - Bulgaria Olive tapanade (super hard to find kosher) - Israel Fig preserves - Israel Pesto - Israel

Yelp
Great food; nice people. My sister was recently housebound, they went out of their way to put together low sodium meals and deliver them. Thanks for the Mitzvah!

Yelp
I was in town for a convention and I was able to purchase excellent meals at a fair price for the three days I was in town. The delivery was right on time, and the packaging and quality exceeded my expectations.

Yelp
This is a decent place to get all of our Kosher food for Passover. It was much easier this year to get the meats that we wanted for the Seders, but they still lack an array of different meats other than beef and chicken. They change everything over for Passover pretty early so it is easy to get stocked up in advance of the holiday. Overall now that I am moving here full time I will definitely be using this store for any of my Kosher needs.

Yelp
Well, it's a Kosher market right in the 'hood so that is, of course useful and somewhat cool The checkout lady was super unfriendly, in a very unnecessary way. Sorry if I am not a regular, I am still of the tribe!

Yelp
I bought far more than I expected, after peeking into this well-stocked Kosher grocery store. Interesting things I've not found elsewhere; some delicious Israeli products and babka from Brooklyn. Tasty (and thankfully garlic free) chopped liver; delicious chicken salad; a reasonable price on our favorite gluten free matzah Yehuda's (try the onion flavor, mmm); corned beef was ok -- not well-marbled with fat for moistness, but big wad of fat on one edge -- I'd try it again to see another cut. Deli counter clerk was very helpful and pleasant. Had lovely chat with one of the owners, Lilah. She took a break from running one of the check out registers to answer some of my questions, and trade niceties as I'm a visitor to this fair city. I mentioned that some of her gluten free items cost less than my regular market, and she said she couldn't see overcharging people just because they have a food intolerance. That's a refreshing perspective! Though you can sometimes feel like an outsider when you're not in the Orthodox garb, I felt right at home in my Reformed normal street clothes. All staff, and other customers were pleasant, as well. I would definitely shop here again. There are many more enticing things to try -- all seemed very good quality.

Yelp
Very small store. Very unprofessional. Not enough food variety. Very expensive. Very unfriendly. Very ugly cashiers who are not very helpful. They dont have a site. They are missing tons of price tags. their always closed when I seem to need them. There's no one to talk to if you have an issue. And basically just not a pleasant experience.

sam g.

Yelp
There is nothing good to say about this store except that the food is kosher. There is no customer service. In fact, most employees are down right rude. They have the attitude that they are doing you a favor to sell you kosher food - whether it is bad or good, what you need or not, just take it and thank them. Avoid if at all possible.

Hayley W.

Yelp
No butcherie has a very friendly staff, it's just the way it is. But I don't care...all the looks I get from the Orthodox women in their long skirts and me in my leggings and sweatshirt, won't keep me at bay. The food is delicious. Buying my food for Pesach was a cinch and instead of being starving this year I am stuffed! The Waldorf Chicken Salad is TDF and my fiance LOVES their Matzah Balls (which are ginormous).

Stephen M.

Yelp
I go to Murray Avenue Kosher quite often to pick up fish, bread and on occasion the prepared deli foods which are usually high quality. The service especially at the checkout counter is not customer friendly but not intentionally rude. I really like the kosher wine section as well as the large selection of smoked fish and kosher cheeses. Be prepared to pay higher prices than at the general supermarkets ( kosher is generally more costly everywhere). While the service may not be over friendly (although I have never really had a problem) I have always found the other customers to be both polite and often friendly.
