Celebrate International Chardonnay Day at These Boston-Area Spots | Eater

"This neighborhood restaurant recently opened on a street corner in Revere, making all other neighborhoods jealous. The team at Murray’s has managed to build a menu that is comfort-forward and eclectic without sacrificing quality. The highlights include Spanish octopus, “nonna’s meatballs,” chicken schnitzel, and a mouthwatering double smash burger. Just a short drive from Revere Beach, yet far enough away from the crowds and tourist traps, Murray’s is the perfect after-beach pit stop for chardonnay and shareable snacks." - Molly McDonough

Other than the tostones needing a bit more flavor, the food was delicious!!! I recommend the pork tacos and schnitzel. Amazing flavor. Service was great and the atmosphere is great too. The owner greeted us and lit candles after the sun set. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating. I'd definitely come back.

Google
Murray's was a pleasant surprise while we overnighted in Revere. Recommended by our hotel it was a short trip and delightful dinner. If you are between flights from Boston, you do not need to go into the city, this is a great option! I loved the tuna tartar and the waffle dessert was to die for!

Google
stopped in for a little patio time! we had multiple rounds of cocktails and they were all delicious! only food we had was the pork tacos but they were scrumptious and quite big for an appetizer. our server was super friends and the manager even came by our table to make sure we were doing well. i wish i lived in town because id be back go try more of their menu!

Google
Decided to grab dinner here randomly, was flying out to Seattle early morning. The Steak bites were seasoned so well! And my drink was amazing. Ordered the pistachio martini 🍸. Definitely worth checking out.

Google
Me and my sisters ate here for the first time. It was honestly so good and the staff were so sweet and kind. We’ll definitely come back again. I’d recommend the double smash burger and the screwball waffle for dessert :)

Google
What a wonderful restaurant! Atmosphere was fantastic and had a very cozy and welcoming feel. The clam chowder was the best I've ever had!!! The mussels were also delicious and had a wonderful heat to them. Finally the steak tips were absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Yes! If you haven't been, you should check it out. The staff were welcoming and our waitress was kind and very helpful with our choices. We met John Murray, one of the owners. He was friendly and continued to check on the patrons. My husband found a YouTube video about this restaurant and that helped make our decision as to where to have dinner. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and warm. We started off with the chicken parm egg roll. We saw this in the video and we were intrigued. My hubby is not a huge pesto fan but really liked it on the chicken parm egg roll. The egg roll wrapper was fried to perfection and the chicken was moist and flavorful. For dinner we had split the pretzel crusted chicken schnitzel. That was tasty and I never thought of making schnitzel with chicken. I will have to try to make it at home. AND!!! For dessert...you must try the Screwball waffles. Dear lord! Get in my belly!!!! Murray's Tavern is ready for St. Patrick's. Helpful advice, please order proper pint glasses for the poured Guinness. It helps make this Irish draught tasty. Sláinte!

Yelp
I'm visit this area from time to time for work and a colleague recommended this place. I was blown away by the absolute amazing customer service and care. The kindness of every single staff member was truly something. Murray's Tavern feels like home. Like a place everyone belongs and it's so familiar. It's truly like "Cheers!", a neighborhood bar "where everybody knows your name". The outdoor seating area is lovely and perfect for late summer get togethers or early brunch. And the food is DIVINE! When I'm in town for work, this will be my go to stop from now. Keep up the amazing work.

Yelp
Love this place. Must visit when looking for some good food and drink. Service is always on point!

Yelp
We've been to Murray's several times, but tonight was by far the worst experience we've ever had. When we arrived, the waitress was kind and offered us a bigger table, which we appreciated. My daughter's food came out quickly and was delicious. However, it took another 20 minutes just to get our drinks. Dinner took about 45 minutes to arrive, and by then I was extremely frustrated. The restaurant was also uncomfortably hot. When my food finally came, it was cold, and to make matters worse, there was a hair in my taco. I was absolutely mortified. I was so upset that I left the restaurant, and even then, it took another 20 minutes just to get our check. I do not recommend this place and will never be returning. Save your money.

Yelp
Fantastic corner bar, the staff was amazingly welcoming and quick at the bar. Had a beer and a up of chowder and a burger - added the bacon & egg. Delicious. Great beer selection on tap and they had a pistachio martini that everyone else was ordering. Very cool vibe inside, welcoming and warm. Highly recommend!

Melissa K.

Yelp
We were recommended to come here by our hotel which was in walking distance. When we walked up the place had a local "come on in" vibe already just looking at it! It wasn't a large place on the inside which lended to the great vibe. Food was excellent (prosciutto flatbread, mussels, cheese flatbread, and shrimp scampi) and our server was amazing..super personable and we had a great conversation about our travels with her. We mentioned it was our daughter's birthday the next day and she brought out a delicious warm waffle w ice cream (and I mean it was DELICIOUS) for our daughter and sang happy birthday! Cocktails were incredible as well-would def recommend!

Yelp
Who knew. The old Speakeasy. Fun memories from the 90's. So when my best friend wanted to check this place out for her 60th birthday- I said ok! Best decision I have made in a long time! Simply amazing. From service to cuisine to atmosphere- 5 stars all the way. The owner was a doll and our server was a reason alone to revisit. The food was generous and sheer unpretentious perfection. I don't yelp too often- only when I have good news to share so here you are. Check this little gem out before the lines are too long to wait in!

Yelp
Ate at the bar after a long day of travel and as a great experience. Food was good but our bartender was even better. He made for a pleasant evening and had incredible recommendations for two people who were too tired to make dining decisions. This is a hidden gem - I hope that's not the case for long.

Yelp
While staying in Boston for Head of the Charles race, we came upon a great neighborhood treasure near our hotel in Revere. First night I took the recommendations of my amazing server Christina and ordered the double smash burger with Salt and Vinny fries. The sandwich was amazing..the bread was fresh and the patties were perfectly done. The mayo and condiments made the burger sing. Second day I only ordered the Screwball waffle which was a perfect combination of waffle and Gelato with a rich whisky syrup drizzle. Washed it down with a double espresso and called it a night. If in Revere..You have to visit Murray's. Tell em the guy from Unity recommended you to come!

June L.

Yelp
Always a great experience!! Food, service and atmosphere #1!! Have been going here since day one. Must try if you have never been!!!

Chris D.

Yelp
My wife and I were a little concerned when the estimated 20 minute wait became closer to 40. We were thinking of leaving just as a table cleared and found out why nobody was leaving: the food was delicious!!! It all tasted so fresh. This place is very cozy, but not quite packed. I noticed the owner straightening out some place mats then came over to check on us. John was very nice and spoke with us for a few minutes and was very friendly and personable. When we were getting ready to leave--and very full--our waitress came over with dessert from John. What a nice touch!!! If we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to return...maybe even bring the kids! Nahhhh!

Doug R.

Yelp
Definitely a great stop. I would stack the beef tenderloin up against Ruth Chris any day, and at a tenth of the price. Charming little neighborhood pub. Fast, polite, and gracious service. If you are in Revere, MA and don't drop by, you have cheated yourself!

Yelp
Ok had a special, top sirloin with broccolini, feta, almonds and juniper berries plus the pork chop with sweet potatoes and bacon fried Brussels. Plus clam chowder. I asked for the juniper berries to be removed and they jumped all over it. I also asked for the steak to be cooked rare so I might get it medium rare. It came out perfectly rare. Which is fine. Just know that the chef will cook it exactly as you ask for. What a bonus. The pork chop was crazy good. Maple glaze and grilled perfection. Sweet potatoes were excellent and the Brussels were CRAZY GOOD. The owner came by 4 times, every server was polite as could be. They had live music on a Monday night. It's a neighborhood place. It's not a cheap place but it is as good as a chop house.

Michael F.

Yelp
The food was fantastic, the service was outstanding. There was a bit of a snafu with the timing of the food, however the staff, including, I believe it was either the manager or the owner went above and beyond what we even expected in remedying the issue. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
One of the best tip to tail meals I've ever had. Was absolutely blown away by our food. Quality, taste, presentation, just incredible. Service was top notch and friendly as well. Very comfortable quiet setting. The Alabama White tenders are just absolutely out of this world. Just an overall A+ 5 stars across the board. You need to get here.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! We had corned beef egg rolls, chicken parm egg rolls, Mac and cheese with steak tenderloin tips and flatbread pizza! Both egg rolls were great with the nod going to the parm. Great portion and taste. The real deal not frozen. The Mac and cheese was delicious and the steak tasty and tender. The flatbread pizza was a good sized pizza and very good. An added bonus was the live music. We were in town for the night and read the reviews before we went and they did not disappoint. Both owners were there and both checked with us and were very pleasant. I asked the owner to change the station on one of the t.v's. and on a busy night he was glad to do it. I wish this restaurant and bar were in our neighborhood!

Dan M.

Yelp
From start to finish , excellent excellent service , people , atmosphere and food , the owner came and talked with us , John and our waitress Ana were incredible, a must go to when in Revere Go there , you'll see

Kelly S.

Yelp
We started with the octopus dish. One 6-7 inch piece of octopus with potatoes and salsa. Octopus was overdone and tomatoes were underdone. Then we ended up only getting soup because first dish wasn't cooked properly and it took so long for the waitress to come back to our table. The waitress also wasn't very knowledgeable of the menu. Not impressed and will not be coming back.

Maureen B.

Yelp
food was excellent, please please work on your waitress's they need to be involved with customers. had a waitress last night who only came over once to see if everything was ok. then when bill came was standing there waiting until i was ready to pay it told her im not ready .. left and came back 3 minutes later to see if i was done i said no .. tried to clean the table . very unprofessional.

Yelp
Murray's Tavern is located at 118 Broadway in Revere, MA, just a short distance from Revere City Hall, the famous Luberto's Pastry, and towards the Chelsea borderline. There is plenty of street parking on both sides of the street when we went on a Friday evening and also plenty of outdoor seatings available. I recommend sitting toward the left side of the restaurant away from Broadway which is a little more private. My husband and I were meeting with a coworker after work for appetizers and drinks. We ordered the mussels appetizer, Vietnamese flavored wings, the Spanish octopus, and the grilled chicken avocado flatbread to share amongst the group. I was impressed by the flavor of the Vietnamese flavored chicken wing as I am Vietnamese myself. The peanut crust was more a dusting of crushed peanuts though. The mussels was probably my favorite appetizer. There was an abundance of mussels and bread to dip into the sauce. My husband enjoyed the Spanish octopus, I prefer a grilled version. The flatbread was tasty and there was plenty of leftovers too. From the cocktails menu, our waitress recommended I try the Passionista, which was sour and sweet, probably more on the sweet side. There was plenty of beer selections IPA for spouse and coworker. Overall, excellent service and food. I have yet to dine inside or try their entrees but will surely be back. I must say, Murray's Tavern is great additional to Broadway.

Yelp
I have been there a handful of times and always really tasty food, waiters are always nice and friendly and even the owners comes around and asking if everything's good. Clean and nice looking tavern!!! I would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Murray's was fantastic!!! Just passing through town and found this place on our Maps app. It did not disappoint! My wife had the Irish stew which was incredible, and I had the Smashburger, which was also incredible. Lots of good smells coming out of the kitchen. The service was impeccable! Our server had a great welcoming attitude and made everything just perfect. It reminded me of a place that had been there a very long time, which I think that it has been there for a very long time! We met the owner John on our way out, he took the time to give us a little history of the place. Just a great experience all around. I highly recommend it!

Maura B.

Yelp
Great service and recommendations from friendly staff I had the chicken schnitzel, my friend pork chop and my husband bolognese. Everything was yummy and had the waffle with caramel sauce on top with ice cream I'm going to come every chance I ever

Phil S.

Yelp
Outstanding! Food, service, atmosphere. Bolognese among best ever. Delicious sauce and pasta was cooked perfectly. Salmon over risotto fantastic. Moist fish and excellent risotto. Flatbread pizza, wings, and chicken parm app also excellent. Drinks perfectly prepared and a top notch wine list. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Murray's was an excellent treat! We were only in town for one night and found live music, great food, fantastic service and lovely bartender! (Clean and warm atmosphere too) Thank you!

Yelp
Amazing home cooked fresh food. Quaint and homey atmosphere. Owner was walking around checking in with people. Great service. Really pleasant place!
google avatar

Yelp
Great pub ambiance! Service was modest and plates were served warm. Tried the Bolognese and Pork Chop! Both were delicious but my favorite was their comforting bolognese! Flavor was rich and the sauce was well balanced. I wish I could eat this every Friday night before my long weekend runs! The pork chop was moist; had the char, sweet caramel and spicy flavors. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I had just flown in from Oklahoma and was looking for a place to eat. Absolutely great food, but the service was even better! It had a great atmosphere, the staff was so nice. Also had a great selection of local beers next time I'm in town I will be returning!

Olivia R.

Yelp
The octopus appetizer is delicious as was everything else. Cozy, low key... cross between a bar/restaurant. Good drink list and friendly staff.

J W.

Yelp
I'd had a rough day in town on business. Had a very early flight the next day and just wanted to sit at a bar and have dinner. What a great find, exactly what I wanted. The burger was amazing, the fries were better. Great service, great atmosphere. What a perfect neighborhood restaurant. I hope to come back!
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Edit: We came back for the second night in a row. The food and service was superb, yet again. Fantastic food, friendly service and great atmosphere. Don't let the name fool you, this is above and beyond your typical tavern.
google avatar

Yelp
Murray's was our first stop in the Boston area and we just so happened to be in town for St. Patrick's day! They really went all out with the decor and there was even a bagpiper and face painting! Their menu is very unique- they have the traditional bar food like chowders, fish and chips, etc. but they also have fusion food like charred octopus. We ordered a couple dishes across the spectrum and everything was delicious, and came out from the kitchen very quickly. Would definitely recommend checking them out!

Bradley A.

Yelp
We went to Murray's Tavern on Friday March 22, 2024. The staff greeted us with a warm welcome and escorted us to our table. They were attentive and timely without us feeling rushed. We looked over the menu and there were many interesting choices in a wide range of foods. I decided on the grilled pork chop with sweet potato and roasted Brussel sprouts. It was fantastic! The chop was cooked perfect both juicy and delicious. My wife and brother in law both had the steak tips, my sister in law had the filet. The tips were awesome! Juicy, tender and good sized pieces of sirloin. The filet just perfect! We all shared bits like you do when you dish is so good you feel the need to share. Prices were more that reasonable for the quality and size of portions, not to mention the friendly staff. To top it all off of, the owner or manager, not sure, came around a few minutes after we received our food to make sure we were all happy. Not many places do that anymore. It was nice to see. We are all Maine'ahs, but when we travel down to Boston, we definitely eat at Murray's Tavern again.

Yelp
Fabulous place. Food and service both outstanding! Best meal we have had while traveling for 2 weeks. Clam chowder was best we have ever tasted. Wife had the Bolognese. Flavor was amazing. I had the Steak tips. Exceptional flavor and portion was Huge being more like a large 2" thick steak cut up. Large pieces. I never post pix of food but had to in this case. Sabrina our waitress was great. Entire staff including the kitchen was super friendly! Will definitely go back! Don't miss this gem!
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
Nice spot, near Logan! Loved the chowder! Lots of locals in the bar , so fun! Great service
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
This place was great! Close to the hotel we were staying at, food and service we fantastic. The restaurant was clean and I could see the kitchen with. Also looked clean. The owners were so friendly and welcoming, came over to chat with us and then shook our hands on the way out. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and def try the chicken parm egg rolls

Jason M.

Yelp
Wow! What a find! We flew out of Tampa to attend my uncle's funeral in Woonsocket. We stayed near Revere. This restaurant had the best clam chowder my Florida lips have ever tasted and we won the lottery by ordering a chicken flatbread as well! To top it off, Jon Murray, the owner, took time to stop, talk and share the history of the place. This will be a recommended spot for any friends traveling, a "get off your butt and get there" review for any locals and a future visit for me on a later date.
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
We sat outside in a nice night and had great service who were helpful to all of the menu changes from parental figures. I had the garlic pizza which was great. Others had a chocolate and strawberry dessert which made all of them yell with delight.

Matt C.

Yelp
Great meal and excellent service. I had the double smash cheeseburger bacon with sweet potato fries and a few bites of bolognese too. Everything was wonderful. We'll be back next time we're in town. Highly recommended!

Bill S.

Yelp
5 stars!! Great service - very down home friendly vibe - had that nite's special - lobster ravioli that was also covered with lobster meat in a creamy sauce that was delicious - we also ordered their mussels cuz we love seafood - top shelf all the way.
google avatar

Dani L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots! My partner and I come here almost every week and we have never been disappointed. From the wait staff, to the owners, and our favorite Executive Chef Anthony- no one disappoints! They deserve all the stars and more!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food. Beer and drink menu changes with with the season. This place is small and cozy yet very functional. The employees do a very good job making customers feel welcomed. My only two issues is that I wish Murray's Tavern was opened for lunch daily instead of just two days per week. Also, if they served there Guinness in a true pint glass that would be nice. Other than that, Murray's is one of my local favorites.
google avatar

T R.

Yelp
I would have given 5 but accuracy was a miss. Food great, service great, friendly staff and very clean. Ordered fried chicken sandwich no pickles and sweet potato fries - got it with pickles and curly fries. Ordered fish and chips with curly fries got , sweet potato. Ask for prickly pear mojito- got a strawberry one. All were good but should write things down so you get it right. Great otherwise

Roy W.

Yelp
The place was packed when we arrived, and we were greeted by friendly servers. The service was great... full bar for cocktails, and the food was outstanding. Service was amazing throughout our meal, and our beverage glasses never went dry. I recommend Murray's Tavern and look forward to going again when we visit Revere again.
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
This place was so good that it literally made me google how to nominate someone for a James Beard award AND put a reminder in my calendar. We just walked in because it looked like a fun neighborhood bar. Lo and behold, we had one of the best meals in Boston. Super tender and flavorful meatballs, beautifully plated and super fresh seared scallops with glazed pork belly and a watermelon relish, fish and chips that tasted like they pulled it out of the ocean 5 min before it hit the plate. And the fries!!!! The salt and vinny fries were perfect soft and steaming on the inside, impossibly crispy on the outside. Totally unpretentious, totally beautiful and delicious--and as I overheard the guy at the bar say on our way out--"this isn't food this is ahhht".
google avatar

Daniel-Gator S.

Yelp
We drove from Florida and this was the first place we got to eat at when we made it here. The best food we all have had at any restaurant. I had the burger and I love burgers and this was the best burger I have ever had. Everyone that was working was amazing and was quick to help and get anything we needed for our table. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a five start treatment from a restaurant. This place had such a great vibe and atmosphere.
google avatar

Keith F.

Yelp
This little place deserves every one of the stars I gave it and more. While the food selection is somewhat limited, the food is meticulously prepared and pleasant to the taste. The staff goes out of its way to create a warm and hospitable atmosphere. I asked for mustard and hot sauce for my fries and burger. They brought mustard and some sort of concoction that the chef created with peppers and mustard. The extra effort made in this shows just how special this little pub is. As a professional traveler who eats at places all over the country, I can tell you that Murray's is a very special place that is worthy of your time and money. I will be back the next time I am in Boston!
google avatar

Eve R.

Yelp
First time here and I will deff be back. I went with my husband on a Saturday night and it was packed. Food was delicious.
google avatar

Stephen O.

Yelp
What a cool find! This is a friendly local spot for cold beer and friendly service! Everyone was so nice with giving their sightseeing recommendations and the flatbread was amazing! If you are close by, walk to this local place, like we did!
