Best Charleston Restaurants to Bring Parents | Eater Carolinas

"Hidden on a side street steps away from the shopping section of King Street, this restaurant/wine bar features an extensive by-the-glass list to pair with Mediterranean and Italian entrees like sweet potato gnocchi or lamb chops. The neighborhood aesthetic, which is rare in the midst of downtown Charleston, provides a cozy setting for a family gathering." - Parker Milner

The food was fantastic. Our waiter, Donny, was amazing. We had a group of eight and he designed our meal for us. He picked our appetizers and entrees to share. The food was delicious. The outdoor patio area was a really great place. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in Charleston.

There are only a handful of meals in my 48 trips around the sun that I can say are TRULY unforgettable…our evening at Muse is one of them! In fact, those I’ve shared the story with do not believe me or think I’m embellishing, but the truth is each of the five individuals in my dinner party will be reminiscing on the evening of January 4th, 2025 at different times throughout their lives. And please understand while the food was brilliantly spectacular, the most remarkable aspect of our time at Muse was the interaction with the owner, Donnie, whom my kids now refer to as Uncle Donnie 😉 I was the last to arrive at our table, as I had dropped everyone off at the quaint front open court entrance of Muse. As I ascended the stairs I heard a roar of laughter, which included my family, so I was more than curious as I turned the corner and entered one of the semi private dining areas. Donnie greeted me, continued his conversation with our table to learn more about our dietary restrictions, and then promptly took the menus away from our party and said, “I got you, just trust me”. This was the beginning of a dining experience that may never be surpassed. In addition to what seemed like an endless waive of curated courses, designed specifically for our palettes, Donnie held court investing his time and energy into my family. I’ll keep the details private, but along with countless laughs we shared many life lessons and goals for the new year, and left with more than a special birthday dessert (Thank you Fawn!). While I doubt our evening will ever be replicated, we cannot wait for our next trip to Charleston. And, if you’re like me and are big into reading reviews before selecting a new restaurant, you’ll see a common thread in the magic of Muse. So should the stars align, and you find yourself at Muse, maybe you too will meet Uncle Donnie 😉

Celebrated the day before Valentine's Day here to avoid crowds. Enjoyed the sparkling rose. The bread and oil was just that. Highly recommend adding spices to the olive oil since it was not enjoyable with zero flavor to it. The apps were good. The duck was VERY FATTY. Don't recommend it. The tuna tartar was full of what tasted like full of mayonnaise and couldn't even taste the tuna. Don't recommend it either. The sausage lamb was good, and the Taziki sauce was good! The beet salad was fresh but very small. The service was good. The online pictures make the restaurant look much bigger than it actually was (which was fine). The outdoor would be nice for when the weather is better. Would go back and try again. Good location and parking lot was across the street.

If Donnie asks you to trust him, DO IT! We had the most wonderful meal and service! We had a party of 5. He first asked if we had food allergies or anything food that we didn’t like. Then, he took it from there….he ordered and brought a variety of food for everyone to sample and it kept coming…..Everything was delicious. He paired the wine perfectly for us as well. Such a memorable experience! We will definitely go back and ask for Donnie!

Okay, we have been here like 10 times and every time is just as good as the time before. The bruschetta special from last night with the caramelized onions, ribeye, & salad was OUTSTANDING. I am such a picky eater and really enjoyed this. I get the carbonara every time and this time it was top tier. Extra creamy and flavorful and the chicken was incredibly tender. The catch of the day yesterday, the grouper, was also legit outstanding. The entire plate was cleaned and I am not someone who enjoys fish but really enjoyed the flavors on this plate. Our server, Ian, was knowledgeable about the menu and made the night enjoyable. We will be back & hope to see our guy Donnie next time! Thanks for a good meal :)

I’m laughing reading all of the 5 star reviews that describe our very similar experience with Donny last night. He’s a local legend. We had a group of 7 and he selected all of our appetizers and entrees, told stories and jokes, cried with me when we realized he was the bartender my mom talked about all the time before she passed away… The food was incredible (listen to him about the meatballs and french fries and the pickled shrimp are perfection), the atmosphere was perfect - even outside on a hot night, and the rest of the staff were just amazing. Special touches to celebrate a wonderful friend made for a memorable night that has us texting this morning about making Muse our regular celebration spot.

Muse is a beautiful restaurant with amazing food and even better staff. I was there for a bachelorette celebration and Donnie made the experience so fun! He chose several dishes for us as well as cocktails and wine to pair our individual palates and the dishes. We shared several apps, entrees, and desserts and each one was incredible. Even the pickiest of us found several dishes they loved. Each staff member we interacted with was truly lovely and I already can’t wait to go back!

Google
Service and ambiance was nice. Food was good. I had the ricotta ravioli and the flavor for the vodka sauce was very mild. My husband had the chefs steak and it was $60 but no side. Just a huge massive steak. Bread wasn’t crusty and fulfilling. For 2 entrees, 1 app, 2 glass of wine our bill was $185 with tip

Yelp
An absolute must in Charleston. Donnie created the best experience for my friends and I. We were a party of 10, he not only curated our entire menu for us, selected all of our apps and entrees, but provided amazing service, ambiance, and overall energy. The food is amazing and letting your server choose for you is highly recommended!! The seafood is so fresh and the pasta isn't too heavy. Drinks are great, vibes are better!!!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are fairly regular guests at Muse, and we couldn't be happier with our experiences there. We stopped in for drinks during our first date and now continue that tradition every time we are grabbing a meal downtown. We've enjoyed a couple meals in the dining room, where the ambiance of the old house is cozy and inviting. The food is consistently delicious, with a menu that offers a great variety of options to satisfy any craving. Whether we're indulging in a hearty dinner or just grabbing a quick bite, the quality and service is always top-notch. The bar is the highlight of our visits. We frequently stop by for drinks, specifically the Espresso Old Fashioned. Brandon crafts amazing cocktails and always has great recommendations if deviating from the menu. The room is small and fills up quickly, but they always find a place to squeeze you in. One of our most memorable experiences was hosting a last-minute going away party for a friend at Muse. Despite the (very) short notice, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, opening a section upstairs for our party to fit. They helped us organize everything seamlessly, ensuring our party was a huge success. Overall, this restaurant has become our go-to spot for both casual nights out and special occasions. The combination of delicious food, excellent drinks, and outstanding staff keeps us coming back again and again. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place that feels like home.

Yelp
Quaint little eatery next to hotel of the main areas...been here a long while and shows her age. A bit sticky bar and smelly rugs. Bartender was none to happy we appeared as late as we did...but was personable enough. Other staff (waitresses) are catty and loud...eating and drinking at bar. Made us a couple decent Hendricks martinis...perfect. Calamari was flavorful. Sauces under the calamari were great, just needed more for the dish to be better. Arugula salad was flavorful, but included a glob of melted Parmesan cheese and canned mandarin oranges...glad pepper grinder was present on the bar. Eggplant lasagna is not up to par...looks and tastes frozen dinner style. Same sauce on bottom of plate as calamari. Don't order this. Asparagus & Mascarpone Ravioli was better than the lasagna, but should rename because was not reminiscent of asparagus:..had two tiny slices. In all fairness...the pasta was green in color...??? Needs more asparagus to be named as such. Decided to forego the dessert course...was obvious we were last table. Bartender was pouring shots for kitchen and waitstaff. Waitstaff were flirting with bartender and other employee seated at the bar. Was not the "face" I would like to show as an owner...employees bragging about drinking "adventures" and foul language Did we mention the bar counter is nasty? I'd skip this one.

Yelp
The food here was excellent - I got the catch of the day which was very delicious. We also got the bruschetta which was great - the special of the day was having filet on top - it was a nice addition but not needed. My fiancée got the braised short rib and said it was one of the best he's ever had - he rated it a 10/10 and he is fairly hard to get that high of a rating from. The bread that they gave us before the meal was a little undercooked though - which took away from the experience. The service was good but it did take us about 15 minutes to get our glasses of wine - which was surprising for a place that is also a wine bar. The ambiance of the place was very cute - in an older house. A very fun experience overall.

Yelp
Wow! This place came highly recommended by a friend whose family lives here and it did not disappoint. It's small and crowded but oh so cute. Love the Greek Muse theme and the decor, paint and art embraces this theme with each room painted and decorated like an old opera house. We were seated in a cute upstairs room and our server, Erin quickly grabbed us some fresh bread since we were starving. She was excellent. Took great care of us the entire night and was really stellar. We ordered the Mezze platter minus the Baba ghanoush which I don't like and subbed cucumber instead of pita. Hummus was delish and fresh as were the tomato and cucumber feta salad and the two fresh falafel bites. Sooo good and fresh! My husband ordered the fresh fish which was snapper perfectly cooked with asparagus. I had the halibut with lobster pea risotto and found it to be an excellent cut of fish, large and fresh and flaky, perfectly cooked. The risotto was yummy as well with a fair portion of lobster meat. We loved both dishes. For dessert - I went with their unique take on tiramisu which is a pomegranate and pistachio flavor and it was sooo good! Loved it. Noms. Coffee was also very good. Excellent meal and excellent service. Highly recommend you try this spot if in the area. They have a cute small bar area as well that can get crowded on a busy night since it's in a historic home and the bar is basically the sitting room.

Yelp
My parents and I had such a wonderful dinner and dining experience at The Muse. Both the outside and inside has a beautiful Greek vibe. There is an outside porch area that is dimly lit and the inside has nice decor and feels more intimate. It's small but a very cozy and elegant spot. Perfect ambiance for a nice dinner out. We got to the restaurant before our reservation and enjoyed an espresso martini at the bar. We were then seated at our table by the Donnie who gave a great overview of the menu. We ended up having him bring us his favorite dishes from the kitchen and this was delightful as we tried things I wouldn't have normally ordered. He took great care of us and was very welcoming and attentive. I highly recommend this spot if you find yourself in Charleston. Food, vibe, hospitality was all excellent and definitely one of my favorite spots in the city.

Yelp
Came here after work and snagged a few seats at the bar. Donnie is the most friendly human in hospitality and Brandon is an amazing bartender. We got a couple dishes to share, calamari and lasagna along with some wine and drinks. I liked their wine selection and their cocktails are tasty. The place is small inside but rustic and home-y. Felt like I was in an Italian grandmas house. that place was packed and it's a cool unique place. Definitely will be back to try more of the food and drinks.

Yelp
This place did not miss. First night in Charleston and made a reservation at Muse because wanted pasta. And wow! Chloe was our server and super friendly and kind. The inside is a repurposed two story home. So with that, it's very intimate/small. Wouldn't recommend trying to have private conversations here because everything Is being heard. There was a bit of a wait due to it being busy but the drinks were delicious ! The food was 10/10! Soo flavorful. I was sad when it was gone. Def recommend if In town

Yelp
A Perfect (Double Date) Evening at Muse Last night, my girlfriend and our friends embarked on a magical culinary journey at Muse, and although I selfishly want to keep this gem to myself, the wonderful people at Muse deserve recognition for their craft and their zeal for service. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth, elegance, and pure hospitality. Ambiance: The restaurant's ambiance is simply enchanting! There was a fun porch area but we chose to be seated in the dining room. The beautifully adorned interior exuded a cozy and inviting charm, making us feel right at home. The soft lighting, tasteful decor, and soothing background music set the perfect mood for an unforgettable evening. Wine Selection: I mean, what else could you want? This place boasts an exquisite wine selection that caters to all palates. Our server Donnie (more to come on this guy) gave a short interview to the ladies on what they would like before offering an abbreviated selection based on what they were looking for. We started with a bottle of Pinot Noir. My buddy who tends to prefer cocktails asked Donnie to surprise him and got some twist on a manhattan. Culinary Delights: I will preface this to say that none of the people in our group were picky eaters. The menu featured a variety of delectable dishes. Between the wine and stories and conversation, we didn't make much progress on choosing... well really anything. Donnie offered to put a mix of shareable together for us which included some John's Island Tomatoes & Ricotta, a simply incredible duck breast, and a balsamic bruschetta creation. ‍‍‍ Attentive Staff: Ok so Donnie... He's the X factor to the Muse experience. I work in hospitality. I've lived in NYC and eaten at upscale places, etc, whatever. There is no-one like this guy. He's attentive, respectful, makes everyone feel welcome, and is funny as hell. You meet him and its like a friend you've known your whole life. I'd also echo that for the rest of the staff. The attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and genuine passion for hospitality made us feel like valued guests throughout the evening. They were also accommodating to any special requests we had, ensuring we left with smiles on our faces. Dessert Heaven: Dessert lovers, rejoice! We definitely didn't have to do this... but we were celebrating some accomplishments... so we did. And we did it with the GF/V Ricotta Cheesecake (never too much ricotta). The sweet endings to our meal were nothing short of extraordinary. The dessert menu was a masterpiece in itself, offering a plethora of divine options that left us spoilt for choice. Every bite was pure bliss! Memorable Double Date: Our double date at the Restaurant and Wine Bar will forever be etched in our hearts. The ambiance, the wine, the food, and the company made it a night to remember. My girlfriend was very pleased at our choice and we all made a pact we would come back again. On our way out, we peaked in to the bar area which looked like a fun happy hour or nightcap place if we ever wanted to come before/after eating somewhere else Final Verdict: If you're seeking an unforgettable dining experience that combines exceptional cuisine, an enchanting ambiance, and top-notch service, look no further than Muse. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem to anyone living in or visiting Charleston. To the folks at Muse - Thank you for creating such a magical evening for us! Teddy W.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely appetizer, meal, and dessert here celebrating a birthday! The greeting and service we received was more than expected. We loved the history and beauty of the restaurant!

Yelp
It's was wonderful! The service was excellent, the appetizers and drinks were plentiful, and the food was divine. Hubby and I ordered way different dishes and switched half way through, we agreed that both were great! Win! Win! My only regret is that the meals were so filling, I didn't get to order the Creme Brûlée...maybe next time!

Yelp
The fettuccini carbonara was to die for. Best ever on 3 continents. Ok admittedly, not a normal start to a review. First get a reservation and best to go early. Like 5 or 6. After that they are slammed Cocktails were unique and worth it. Tuna tartar was a great appetizer. Scallops were great. Did I mention they make their own pasta? Service was great and kinda dropped off as it got busy, but wasn't a show stopper. Built in 1858, expect really cool architecture and on occasion, uneven floors A must dine if in Charlotte

Grace L.

Yelp
This place was an all time favorite. I mean I wanted to try absolutely everything on the menu. The Service was impeccable. I never finish my plate but I ate every last bite! I have heard wonderful things about this place so I couldn't wait to try it. And it absolutely exceeded my expectations! This is a must if in Charleston!

Em H.

Yelp
We were able to get a last minute reservation and so glad we did! The waiter was great! Cool and funny dude. Sold us on the catch of the day and 'bruschetta' which was pigs in a blanket for the holiday (july 4th). I don't remember the name of the catch of day, waiter said it was from Africa, but it was served blackened on succotash and it was so good! He also made cocktails just off alcohol preference. Great experience!

Yelp
My favorite meal I've had 6 months living in Charleston was had here. The eggplant lasagna is mouth watering bliss. I dream about it. Service was fantastic. Great wine list. Quaint tastefully artsy decorated ambiance, great for date night or girls night out.

Yelp
We had a GREAT dinner at Muse. Reservation options for an 8-top reservation just a few days out were limited but it was an absolute winner. Similar to another poster about a month ago, Donnie (the manager?) asked if we'd like him to just order for the table. We all went in for it and ended up with a great meal - maybe 6 starters and 6 mains and then 4 desserts. Dietary restrictions handled well. All served family style. And wine. Lots of wine. The staff was great. The food was excellent. Everything was delicious. Short-rib gnocchi and tagliatelle seemed to be the table favorites but there wasn't a miss in any of the choices. Donnie was also really a great host. So glad we landed there. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This restaurant is very highly rated. It is located in a 164 year old building. I did check a menu "photograph" to see if there is enough vegetarian dishes. I obviously screwed up because the photo was 9 months old and the website had the latest menu. I digress. there were enough vegetarian dishes though not exactly the kinds we prefer. The server was nice though seemed kind of rushed. My wife has a cocktail called Bette. It was good. We had the artichoke torta. It was a pretty well made appetizer. The pumpkin ravioli was alright. The pumpkin filling was a tad too sweet for my liking. perhaps something else on the plate could have balanced the sweetness. They were kind enough to make a pesto gnocchi for my wife on our request. The dish was ok. It could have been better if they resisted the urge to add balsamic vinegar to the dish (we didn't ask for that.) A good place n general but slightly ordinary for very specific, vegetarian eaters like us. Not blaming them, however we had an OK experience.

Yelp
Great dining experience in a historic building in Charleston. The food was excellent, if you go try the Beet Salad and Veal Scallopini over Polenta. Our server was very helpful with our selection of food and wine, which was very affordable by the glass.
google avatar

Gene C.

Yelp
Excellent! Food was great, service was outstanding! When we got there we were greeted by the hostess who took us upstairs to our table, we had a seat by a window and could see all the activity around downtown Charleston, the ambiance was so pleasant and the servers were super knowledgeable about the menu, I had the sea bass and my wife had the shrimp & grits, (pics included) we both had cocktails, everything was just great, can't wait to return.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant in a beautiful & historical home. Our waitress was delightful and funny! They didn't have a espresso martini on the menu but she was able to get me one anyway!!! Moscow mule was tasty as well, the bread and olive oil for the table is a perfect appetizer in my opinion, but their other starters look amazing too. The Airline Chicken reminded me of a home cooked meal. Their outside patio area is so cute for a date night. Wine menu is pretty good!
google avatar

Gene C.

Yelp
So, third time here and all three have been great. Unfortunately, they missed the five star with a big miss this evening. Ordered the blueberry cheesecake and decalf coffee and was told "Nope" - we don't have Decalf. Disappointing.

Yelp
LOVED this restaurant! My friend and I went for dinner on a Saturday evening. We didn't have reservations but we were able to sit at their full-service bar. We actually enjoyed that much better than a table in the dining room! Our bartender, Brandon, was excellent! He was on top of his game, conversational and was very helpful with food/drink recommendations. I ordered the scallop risotto which was amazing! The scallops were huge and cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara and love it as well. They had several dessert options, including gluten-free, which is so nice! I have a gluten allergy and they took careful precautions. I can wait to go back and highly recommend!!

Yelp
Go to Muse. Donnie is phenomenal - he makes you feel at home and will give you a dining experience you will never forget (or let alone know that exists in Charleston). Trust him and get to know him, and you'll have the best night. I'll be back time and time again. And make sure to get the red wine that was served at his wedding. Bon appetite!
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed a memorable meal at Muse last week that was a delight to every sense! I arrived with a larger party and we were treated to wonderful service by Donnie - he makes you feel more like you are at your best friend's house for dinner than at a restaurant. We didn't even see a menu. He simply brought us dish after dish - one more beautifully presented and delicious than the last! Fresh fish, pasta, vegetables, meats, and dips galore. I couldn't even pick a standout item, but the overall affect is one of casual elegance and indulgence. I would recommend a meal at Muse to anyone!

Yelp
Nothing to write home about. There are other restaurants in this area of Charleston that are better.

Yelp
I am absolutely head over heels in love with this restaurant! Add this to top of my list of "FIVE STAR FINDS" in Charleston. Off the beaten path and away from the craziness of King Street this sweet little spot has it all and gives it all! Five star ambiance, staff, food and drinks. The food is and has always been consistently over the top fantastic, exciting your tastebuds with its sexy savory Mediterranean flair. The Shrimp Meuniere, the Salmon special encrusted with Parmesan, the Artichoke Torta, the Heirloom Tomato Salad ..i could go on and on but those are a few of my favorites. You can't finish a review without passing along 5 stars to the staff who In my opinion above and beyond friendly. Our waitress even sharing stories and photos of her rescue puppy. She was attentive, knowledgeable, funny and friendly making us feel "at home" not just like a party on a reservation. Thank you Muse for going above and beyond in every category!!!

Yelp
My family and I are in Charleston for 5 days. We tried a lot of restaurants. This restaurant was our hands down favorite! Every aspect made this a fantastic dining experience from food, service, ambience and fun! Walked in and loved the vibe and the pretty outdoor area. We had Donnie as a waiter and he was entertaining and witty from the first moment. He offered to order for us based on preferences- very interesting! 5 of 7 jumped into this experience and literally felt like they were ordering the experience. He asked us our names and preferences and took over with witty remarks along the way. Gabby also continually checked in on us. The variety of appetizers and the taste was fantastic! They adjusted appetizers for 2 gluten free members of the group. Donnie even selected cocktails. The paper plane was delicious and everyone enjoyed their cocktails. As part of the experience he ordered main entrees to share. The short ribs with gnocchi was a favorite. The special was flounder stuffed with crab and was absolutely delicious. Halibut was delicious too! Donnie took a great photo of our group and he was in it! We will be back!! I can't wait to return to this awesome spot! Everything was well done.

Yelp
Amazing place. Don the owner was the most gracious man and chose our menu. Delicious. It is a must eat place. The ambiance is wonderful

Yelp
This was the most unforgettable dining experience I've had , I went with a group of friends for a bachelorette. My only regret is that it was the first place we dined it and it set the standard so high . Not only was the food great but the service from everyone who's employed here is impeccable.

Yelp
If there's a type of YELP review I hate, it's the one where the writer has some particular axe to grind because they encountered some off the wall, one of a kind problem that nine times out of ten never happens to anyone else. This is not one of those reviews. My wife and I discovered Muse one evening while walking to and from a Charleston Cougars game and decided to make a reservation during the Holiday Season. Fast Forward. After squeezing into one of the tiniest parking spots we've ever encountered, in the exorbitantly priced George Street parking lot, we walked the short distance to Muse. Arriving promptly for our reservation (made six weeks prior), we were seated on the second floor, sandwiched between two groups of six and eight patrons, all of whom were speaking exceptionally loud. I admit to being somewhat stodgy in my old age, but if I'm expected to hand over a fistful of "Benjamins", (in addition to the Holy City's sales and beverage taxes, credit card fee, hospitality surcharge and finally, a 20% tip), then I expect a reasonable decibel level throughout my meal. After all, this isn't Happy Hour at TGIF. Not being shy, we got up and left. The next day, I decided to determine whether other Yelpers had similar experiences rather than this being a one-off Holiday Party sort of thing. Believe it or not, Yelp provides a convenient Search Box with all of its reviews, which I populated with the words "LOUD" and "NOISE". This is a sampling of what came up... S.B. (May) "Super noisy" K.W. (Mar) "Because all of the rooms are tiny, it can get pretty loud" J.D. (Sep) "There was a large party nearby and they were so loud that we could barely hear one another" P.B. (May) "It feels like it could get a bit loud if it was crowded" E.M. (March) "A 12 top reservation sat across from us about 15 mins into our dinner. Super drunk and loud." B.N. (March) "It was far too loud and intrusive" D.L. (August) "It was a bit noisy that evening because there was an upstairs party...wish they kept it upstairs" In closing, be mindful that Muse is popular and because of its rabbit warren of small rooms, there's no guarantee that a boisterous group won't be seated near your table, before or after you've arrived, especially if you're seated upstairs. On the other hand, you can always have our table.

Yelp
This is the perfect pomp free fine dining restaurant. A converted historical charleston home with rooms and rugs gives you a cozy intimate feel. The service is excellent. Our host was amazing and made us feel welcome as soon as we got through the door. We started with the mezze platter. A healthy amount of hummus, Baba ganoush, pickled salad and cheese dip with honey, all served with pita slices. A really great platter! I had the Chilean sea bass special. This was a melt in the mouth dish- superb! It was served with an Angel hair pasta with a lemon base. The meal was served with green beans and spinach. It was a really refreshing meal. Filling but not heavy. My date had the short ribs and the plating looked divine. Dessert was another flavorful delight. The pomegranate trifle was unique. Not a traditional trifle by any means, but light and airy and a novel take on the traditional British dessert. This is a wonderful restaurant with fine dining without the fanfare. It's down to earth, with fabulous service and an air of comfort. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Great romantic ambience. Superior service. Delicious food and wine. We will definitely be back when in the Charleston area again. Loved every minute of our visit.

Yelp
This place is one of a kind! Arrived in Charleston and booked a table at Muse on the recommendation of the navigator at the Lindy Renaissance. An overall amazing experience. Food was top notch as was the staff. The Atmosphere of the quaint older home turned restaurant was fun. This place was hopping, the food was superb, and we enjoyed literally every aspect of our visit. Highly recommend this restaurant if you ever visit Charleston, SC. Donny and his crew are simply the best!

Yelp
Visited muse with a party of 6 and had reservations. We were seated even though the party was not all there as two people were running late so we were able to get drinks on the table while we waited for them. The drink menu is great and there are a lot of options for cocktails , wine and a full bar to make any classic cocktail . I went with a Spanish vino verde and was great and crisp. We shared the mussels to start which were good , but it was sad that the gluten free option was just removing the bread instead of bringing another option to make up for it. The mussels were good but the sauce lacked flavor. The star of the night was my main course which was a full fish quick fried and crispy. It was very tasty and filling. The service was great and the location in an old classic house was picturesque . Great time!

Yelp
Muse is a higher end restaurant in downtown Charleston serving up mainly meats and seafood along with some Italian dishes. We celebrated a friends birthday here and its quiet and cozy setting made for a nice night. They start the table off with bread which is warm and delicious. For an appetizer we had the mussels which were pretty solid - my only complaint is that the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor to it, so you end up missing out on that bread dipping sauce experience which I generally love. The stuffed flounder was a great dish, packed full of crab meat and spinach, on a bed of cous cous, tomato, and zucchini. This dish was cooked very well and had a lot of great flavors blend together every bite. Overall this was a nice restaurant with great service and good food. The stuffed flounder was exquisite. It's worth a visit if you're looking for a romantic quiet dinner spot.

Yelp
We enjoyed our 2 best entrees in Charleston at Muse. I had a red snapper with gnocchi and my wife had probably the best bolognese that she ever had. Had to bump it down a star for the S L O W service. It took 90 minutes for us to get our entrees. That said, the meal was very good!

Yelp
Muse is definitely a little hidden gem! The interior of the space is so enchanting and has that beautifully authentic Charleston history and restoration and uniqueness. You don't want to miss it. They have done so well maintaining it. We came out for a girls night and it did not disappoint! I'd love to come back for more.

Yelp
What a fun dinner! Food and drinks were excellent. Donny took care of our table and we had the best time. This place is a hidden gem!

Yelp
Muse has become a staple for us!! Donnie is our favorite but all of the staff have been wonderful. For starters, the Bruschetta and Artichoke Torta are my favorites, although the Baked Oysters and Tuna Crudo deserve a mention. For entrees, I can't NOT order the Tagliatelle Bolognese, it's the star of the menu. It's great as your own entree or to share with the table. Right now they have a Pumpkin Ravioli, which is delicious but I would definitely recommend as a share plate rather than your own entree. Their Sea Bass and Grouper Thermador are also great options. For desserts, the Flourless Chocolate Torte is amazing - and the Pumpkin Carrot Cake (which is seasonal I believe). Honestly, you can't go wrong here!

Yelp
Phenomenal!! Donnie (owner) took care of our large party and it was fantastic! Great questions and recommendations and the food just kept coming to the table! I think we must have sampled everything on the menu, although I never saw a menu because Donnie took care of everything! Great environment, great food, and a memorable experience!

Yelp
Another five-star experience at Muse last night for my birthday. They are known for their pasta, but I was lured away when our server said the chef's steak of the day was a ribeye, and I'm glad I was! It was tender and had so much good flavor. The fresh baked bread before the meal was amazing too -- so pillowy soft. I couldn't decide between two desserts so we got both to split-- a pumpkin carrot cake and a ricotta cheese cake with blueberry compote. Both were delicious in different ways. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was terrific, one of the best I've had in a long time -- super attentive and upbeat (long strawberry blonde/reddish hair). If you haven't been, Muse is in a historic two-story house, with many small rooms used as the dining rooms. There's a patio as well and a small bar. So it's a charming, very Charleston experience.

Yelp
Excellent Meal and Service. The Pumpkin Ravioli was very flavorful. The veal was so tender and the sauce was a great complement.

Yelp
wow!! tucked away on a quiet sidestreet in downtown Charleston, this gem is a must-not-miss! Donnie sigfested - and we accepted - letting him take up the menus and surprise us all night - it was a great decision!

Yelp
My girls and I went here last night for our last supper before we all go back home. I made a comment to the lovely owner that I was not fully satisfied with my meal. He immediately took action and could recognize the mistakes made in the dish. He comped my meal as well as one of the other girls. The others thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Overall, very nice owner and you can tell he cares about his costumers. Also, when he says let me pick your meal, listen to him!!!

Yelp
Everything at this restaurant is excellent from the food to the staff to the service. We were recommended this restaurant by someone staying at our hotel, The Renaissance. It is literally across the street from the hotel's courtyard. We didn't have reservations so we had to wait about an hour but it was worth the wait. We waited in the bar which is a small bar but excellent drinks in a cozy spot. The owner picked our food and everything he brought us was delicious. We had duck breast, bruschetta and mussels as appetizers and for dinner we had mahi mahi and bolognese. We finished with dessert & limoncello. Definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
My family and I came here for my sisters birthday/ graduation. Let me tell you this was the best dining experience I've ever had. The server named Donnie is the absolute best, he'll come and ask your table if you'd like him to just talk to y'all and personalize the experience, say YES! He brought out THE BEST entrees and food. Such a great experience, shout out Donnie!!

Yelp
What a wonder meal and experience. I've been coming to Charleston regularly over the past 5 years to visit my daughter. This has been the most enjoyable dinner to date. Not your ordinary Calamari. Perfectly prepared and dressed with deliciousness that when only sauce was left, I had to finish it with the last slice of bread. The bread...remarkable on its own, but as the base for a bruschetta is a must order. The Veal Scallopini amazing. Now I feel I would be disappointed ordering it elsewhere. I literally made the others take a bite because no one should miss out, I don't remember the name of the dessert as it was a surprise me from the owner. Explosion of complementary flavors in each bite. I describe it as an amped up raspberry tiramisu with pomegranate and pistachios. Top off the delicious meal with charming and insightful service by the owner makes this a returning customer next time I'm back. I will be back in Charleston soon and Muse will be on my dining list.

Yelp
To be completely honest this place is awful. Sorry! We had made reservations for a special dinner here. We waited only a few minutes to be seated. We were seated in a small room at a two person table that was set for one. The table had such a lean to it and it was so cramped that it was hard to even get in the seat with a dress on. We waited 25 minutes for someone to welcome us and pour water. We ordered drinks immediately and they took another 15 minutes to come. We also ordered an appetizer with our drinks and quickly realized we shouldn't have done that with how slow things still were. My drink twice had floating food particles in it. We noticed the floating particles when she set the drink down so we were able to ask for a new one right away. The second time we had to go ask at the bar. When the appetizer came (one hour after being there) we still had no second set of silverware and no small plate. The tomato salad did not have basil as described and no one again came by to check on us so we ate off of the appetizer plate and decided dinner elsewhere would be better. We had also asked the waitress for silverware, but she never showed back up. The only one on the table when unwrapped was again dirty. My husband had to go find someone to ask for the bill a second time. It took an extremely long time for that to also come. We were there for over an hour and a half by the time we left. I also want to make note that this was an early dinner time and not all tables were full or had a wait. The inside of Muse is a beautiful old home, but it could really use a good cleaning. Steps have stains and food. Walls had splattered food by the table and obviously we had food in our drink cup and on our silverware. Overall this place was a complete disappointment.

Yelp
We had an incredible time here. First time in Charleston and we HIGHLY recommend. Food was amazing, but service was even better. We hope you get the Donny experience. - Erin & Sophia

Yelp
Our group of 12 friends travel one weekend of each year to different cities for a fantasy football draft. This year we chose Charleston. We landed on Muse for our group dinner after seeing the positive reviews and our experience exceeded our expectations on every level. Donnie instantly won over the group with his humor. We were laughing the entire time. I noted that we were celebrating last years fantasy football winner and he went all out, he brought out a trophy! We didn't order one thing. We loved the family style meal. Every dish that came out was finished and enjoyed by all. Bolognese pasta. Calamari. Ahi tuna. Scallops risotto. List goes on. The price was very reasonable too! All around great experience and we can't recommend this fine restaurant more.
