This walking food tour of Montreal's Jewish neighborhoods was so much fun!! Our guide Ella, a McGill graduate who majored in Jewish Studies and Urban Planning was extremely knowledgeable but just as importantly, very enjoyable. I learned as much about Montreal's Jewish history and unique characteristics as I did the food. Our small group totally bonded and had a ton of laughs along with amazing food, some from very traditional old-school delis (Smoked meat sandwiches from Schwartz's, bagels from St. Viateur and Fairmount and also some treats from newer, hipper up and coming places (flaky, delicious chocolate babka, poutine knish...). Definitely show up hungry!

The Beyond the Bagel tour was incredible. The guide, Ellie, was knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about the Jewish history of her adopted city, Montreal. The quantity of food you get is staggering. Both classic and contemporary takes on many types of delicious traditional baked goods and savouries, ending with smoked meat, pickle, and cherry coke at Schwartz's. I am glad the guide provided us with bagel bags so I could squirrel away portions of a number of the samples we tried in order to make it through to the end (and have delicious breakfast items for my husband and I the next day). Believe me, you will not need to plan for dinner. What a great way to tour through the Mile End and Plateau neighbourhoods, learning about their pasts and vibrant present. Highly recommended!

I have taken two walking tours with the Musée du Montreal juif. The tours are extremely informative and reasonably priced. The guides are very professional. It is always an enjoyable experience to learn from them and we look forward to more tours in the future.

Went on the “Exploring Hasidic Montreal: A Walking Tour” only one of a few offered this summer. Fascinating, interesting and in-depth tour of the history and life of Hasidic Jews in Montreal. The Musee offers excellent walking tours on a more regular basis. Definitely worth checking out to learn more about the Jewish history and culture of Montreal.

My friend and I booked the Beyond the Bagel tour and I couldn't recommend it enough. We had a small group - only 4 - but I think that made it better. Be sure to come to the tour hungry and bring a drink because it is a lot of carbs, but it's worth it! You're given the chance to try some of the best and most iconic Jewish foods from Montreal's Mile End neighborhood, learn about their history and skip the line in the process. Sam - our tour guide - was so helpful, informative and personable. She even brought paper bags in case we didn't want to eat all of the food, we could save the leftovers. I will recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the 'real' history of Montreal.

This was a wonderful tour that introduces you to a side of Montreal that you would not otherwise get to know while walking around on your own. Bonus is that you get to eat wonderful food as you learn about the neighborhood and it's history. Our tour guide, Megan, was fabulous and knowledgeable and had everything we needed in her bag. I would not hesitate to book this tour while you are visiting Montreal!

Had a fantastic experience participating in the "Making Their Mark" tour this past weekend! Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, and we learned so much cool and interesting history of the Jewish people in the Plateau. Already looking forward to my next tour!

This physical brick and mortar museum centrally located on The Main at Duluth serves as a hub from whence a multitude of experiences have their provenance. Walking tours serve to enable the public to more vividly and viscerally interact with the past history of and the present-day life in Jewish Montréal. These walking tours showcase different aspects of life in the Jewish community. There is the Beyond the Bagel walking tour which focuses on the historical culinary traditions and institutions that have shaped the tastes (as well as whetted the appetites) of Montréal denizens. There is the fascinating architectural walking tour wherein we explore the many landmark buildings which served the Jewish community. This is a very special museum ... and a great concept! #Urbex has come to the museum scene in the city folks and I enthusiastically implore you all to come check it out. There is also a lovely café attached to the museum where you can have a knish or three and maybe some borsht. You must try the most sublime and decadent ice cream sandwich you've ever dreamed of ... rosewater custard ice cream sandwiched betwixt two cardamom spiced cookies ... what?!? Have you ever heard of such a thing. They've got very very good and exactingly measured drip coffee for your Java jones-ing pleasure. There are cool totebags and postcards as well as many books and buttons to peruse. The Museum of Jewish Montréal adds an historical and complex dimension to the intricately woven multicultural mosaic that is our beautifully vibrant city. The museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and profound influence that Hebraic culture has had in the shaping of Montréal. Maps play an essential role here; even more essential is the role of the observer, whilst one studies and explores the cultural topography afoot, one must also observe the history that is hidden beyond the ornate façades and stained glass. Jewish Montréal is ubiquitous because Jewish Montréal is Montréal. From our love of food to our history, from the central (Main) artery of our city radiating outwards until island meets river, we see how Montréal has been beautified and made more radient by our Jewish community.

Our "Beyond the Bagel" Jewish food walking tour was a fun and fascinating way to learn about the Jewish community in Montreal. Our guide Colin was (as billed) a culinary and historian superstar, and he was patient and thorough answering our many questions. Every moment was informative and delicious! The history of Jewish Montreal is rich and colorful and well-told through the medium of food; our favorites were the cheese crowns from Boulangerie Cheskie and, of course, the grand-finale smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz's. We also enjoyed the art exhibit and gift shop at the pop-up location where we ended our tour. Highly recommend, and thank you!

There is something the glowing reviews posted don't tell you, this isn't really a museum . The people who work here are super nice and I bet the walking tours are good but they are only offered when the weather is warmer.In short the museum itself is not a real attraction.

We loved the tour, walking and stories about the Jewish life in Montreal, mainly after WWII. Don't miss it!

I'd call this more of an exhibition than a museum, but I'd like to note that the staff was extremely helpful! The walking tours sound great (unfortunately we did not have enough time to go on them), but the staff answered all of our questions and even directed us to explore Jewish sites on our own time. I would absolutely be willing to donate to this museum in order to secure a larger space - the exhibition was great.

Rabbis, Writers, and Radicals walking tour of Mile End lead by our tour guide Sophia was a great way to learn about the history of one of our favorite Montreal neighborhoods. Our guide had a wealth of historical information to share about the "downtowners" who settled into Mile End. We stopped at different locations in the neighborhood where the buildings were used as a jumping off point to delve into the stories of different institutions. This is less of an architectural tour of buildings as it is an exploration of the variety of institutions and the communities that built them. Sophia used historical photos and a wealth of research notes to bring the stories to life and capture a vivid sense of the difficult lives of these poor immigrant Jews and their rich cultural history.

My husband and I took the " Making Their Mark" tour and we really enjoyed it. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Jewish history of the area and she made the tour fun and interesting!
