Museum of Death Hollywood

I have been wanting to come to this museum for years and finally got the chance to visit. I found it to be very interesting. As stated, it is very gruesome and there are some very gory photos. The serial killer/cult items and morticians equipment was very interesting. They also do have some very cool artifacts on display. I personally, don't feel as though the way they display photos as disrespectful. Almost every display has names and dates along with background information. I saw this as any other museum preserving history.

I visited the Museum of Death today, but a more accurate name might be the Museum of Gore or Museum of Murder/Suicide. As others have mentioned, it's definitely not for the faint of heart. The exhibits are graphic. The museum feels outdated. Unfortunately, I also had a bizarre interaction with the front desk staff. I asked if they offered a military discount, and the man at the front confirmed that they did. I showed him my military ID, he acknowledged it, and proceeded to charge my card. Later, while walking through the museum, I checked the receipt and realized I’d been charged the full ticket price. When I went back to ask about it, the same man casually said, “Oh yeah, I forgot to apply the discount,” and handed me a couple of stickers from the gift shop as a consolation. Being told I’d receive a discount and then being charged full price—and then offered stickers instead of a refund—left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s the principle more than the amount.

We went to the museum recommended by a friend, and all I can say is that this museum is incredible. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and you get a different perspective on life. Warning ⚠️ the museum can be very graphic for some people. Parents be ware if you come with small children. Other than that I highly recommend it. 20/10 rating. I did not post pictures for obvious reasons plus you are not allowed to take any pictures or video inside for good reason. Besides it will take away from the mystery. 👍😉😎

Quite the experience. You have to be comfortable with death to tolerate what you will see and encounter. Reminder, no pictures allowed due to the graphic content. Everything from serial killers, shrunken heads, murder scenes to anatomical specimens.

Such a cool experience for those that are interested in these type of exhibits! I really appreciate that it is a self guided tour that way you can spend as much time as you would like to soak in all of the atmosphere plus so many of their displays and evidence. My friend and I are so happy that we had a chance to fit this experience into our plans and have already shared our experience with those back home and how much we enjoyed it! Do want to note that there are a few things that can be hard to view because of how graphic they are but you have the option to control your own tour ᵕ̈

I’ve visited the Museum of Death three times now, and each visit leaves me just as fascinated as the last. Their new location is bigger and better, offering an even more immersive and chilling experience for those intrigued by the macabre. The expanded space allows for a deeper dive into their incredible collection of artifacts, letters, crime scene photos, and serial killer memorabilia—each telling its own dark yet captivating story. One of the highlights of the new location is there are now two floors to view the artifacts displayed. The curation of these exhibits is detailed and well-researched, making it an educational experience alongside the shock factor. That said, a fair warning—this museum is not for the faint of heart. Graphic images and intense subject matter are on full display, so if you’re easily disturbed, this might not be for you. But if you have a deep interest in true crime, forensic history, or the morbid curiosities of death, this is an absolute must-see in LA. I’ll definitely be back for a fourth visit!

I don’t usually write out reviews because I honestly need a VERY valid reason to do so. This I feel is a valid one. As someone who’s into true crime and all the things people would think I’m nuts for. I’m not a psychopath. I know that for sure now after going to this place. This place is absolutely one of the most disrespectful places anyone can go to. Before going I’ve heard many good reviews for it, and always wanted to go. In those reviews everyone made it very clear how graphic it is, so I was very much aware of that. That’s not the issue I have with this place. The issue I have is how it was created to basically be a place that has no respect for the dead or the people who they showcase. The first thing you see when you walk in is a hallway dedicated to the black dahlia, one of the most horrific crimes I’ve ever heard of, more specifically her private parts. Then you walk up a staircase that is just plastered with photos of mutilated bodies of real people whose names weren’t even shown, nor their history, just a nameless dead body. That’s just the staircase, throughout the museum you just see more bodies in the worst conditions with no description of the victim. If there is a description it’s just about how brutally they were murdered, or a description that just says “death by suicide,” I find that to be extremely insensitive, especially with this being a museum, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I definitely didn’t get any education from it. The other thing I found to be really unnecessary is the amount of genitalia/nudes posted everywhere. I felt like I was disrespecting the victim by seeing their private parts just right there for the whole world to see as if that wasn’t a real person. I saw others saying the same thing about that so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that thought it was just disrespectful to the victims. I don’t know I feel like this place was far from educational and definitely inhumane for sure. I’d rather stick to watching true crime where the person presenting the cases actually cares about who the victim was, the person they were on this earth, not just their death. I don’t usually feel uneasy with these things because society has made it such a norm to hear and see horrible things, but I left the museum feeling so sad for all the victims in there who are just showcased like circus animals. I also feel horrible for any family members who may or may not know how their loved one is being portrayed in a place like this. If this place can take ANY advice, please be more considerate of the ones you chose to showcase, tell us their story, who they were, and have some empathy for what was done to them. Some might say “well what did you expect from a place like this?” As much as you’re right, the way people speak of this place, I didn’t think it was created to look like this. I heard this place was created to make you appreciate life more, but that’s far from how I felt after the fact. I felt very sad for how everything was put together to be something so vile towards the dead. I don’t believe a human with a good heart and conscience would feel right setting something up like this. If you feel this place is awesome and perfectly curated, please take a break to heal yourself and look deeply into how you view people. The people who work there were very nice though.

Amazing museum! All the exhibitions are very interesting and you get to learn a lot about the death topic. It is a very explicit content place though, so take that in count. The museum is not that big, but you do have to take your time to check all the exhibitions. The staff was very friendly. Overall a great and very interesting museum!

Admission was $20, tickets only sold at the door, no advance purchase available. There were no lines and no waits, with just a handful of visitors in the museum while we were there this past Monday. Restrooms could be found on both levels for convenience. A small gift shop in the lobby. Also, they were really strict about the "no photo" policy, signs everywhere with threats to kick out anyone who takes their phone out while in the museum. So many exhibits to explore in various rooms including holocaust genocide displays, theater of death, serial killers trivia game, clown killers collection, artistic creations of murderers, specimen room, animal corpses, taxidermy, gruesome photos of dead people, caskets and funeral home objects, skulls and shrunken heads, day of the dead artwork, news clippings about celebrity deaths and flight crashes, and sections on car accidents and suicide victims. Much to learn about history, culture, science, the aftermath of natural disasters, and the crazy acts of psycho killers. I found the place to be interesting, with a creative layout and presentation to keep visitors engaged. Plus you can roam around at your own pace with very little interaction with staff after they communicate the rules at entry.

As a former felony prosecutor, I have seen more crime scene photos in 24 years than most. You would have thought that something like this would appeal to someone like me, but the opposite was true. I should have read the definition of macabre before going. We left within 20 minutes because it was too graphic. There is so much fascination with homicide and violent crime, but I cannot help but think about the victim's families when people want to look at crime scene photos and someone else is making money off of that. I think about the parents of these victims and the pain this would cause them. Can't do it. Certainly, some of the mass casualty coverage is in a different category. Frankly, I would divide the museum differently and keep the true crime info in a separate room. Definitely not for children or teens.

The curation of the exhibitions was wonderful with lots of interesting books and memorabilia. I thought the section with newspapers of tragic events was also very informative. During our visit the elevator was broken and they only took cash. Normally they are cashless. Another downside is that the information that you can read about the cases and events is small. I think this museum could benefit significantly from upgrading this element.

The museum is honestly super cool and informative but also deeply macabre as it suggests. The staff are super awesome and friendly, respectful place. I would highly recommend if you like real life crime, true crime, and the bizarre and disturbing. Plenty of stuff to look at and read.

The content in this museum was definitely interesting and I learned a few things I hadn't known about some various cases I didn't before. I also really liked the array of serial killer memorabilia they had! Issues though were really the fact that we felt like they were just following us around and breathing down our necks. I do understand there is a strict no phone rule but we never once pulled our phones out or made a motion to do so so we just weren't sure why we were being followed around so closely (especially when there's cameras watching you all over anyway). But no one was rude or anything, it was just a little uncomfortable being watched and followed around so closely for no reason.

I'd like to make a complaint of who ever is in the front with long hair (male) I parked infront, and notice someone taking a photo. I came into the store front to ask, being genuine just to check if you guys wanted me to move. The guy straight up told me what? Did you see me? Immediate acted hostile , making me leave the premises. Even cussing me out infront of YOUR guests, If this is how you guys roll; then you are unprofessional, hostile and incapable of answering simple questions. Also called to speak to a manager and again treated with disrespect over the phone not assuming but knowing he was the one who answered. Is there an owner I can actually speak to that aren't these people!? If this man gets near my car again or woman I am definitely make this a bigger issue then they/this company wants it to be. I work in the corner and can see everything near my car, let him know he isn't parking patrol like he wishes to be & to continue taking his photos along with the woman at the registers. As my business has video recording for all of this today. The signs don't say tow away and city won't do anything to a paying customer so long as it's paid. I called the city :))))))) Hope this helps he needs better customer service and anger management .

The Museum of Death is worth a visit if you find mortality, gore, and/or true crime fascinating. It's located in a great area of Hollywood across from restaurants and a few parking lots. We paid $20 to park in a tiny lot behind the museum but probably could've found a cheaper alternative nearby. Museum admission is also $20. My girlfriends and I arrived 45 minutes before closing (8 o'clock) on a Saturday night, and I was panicked thinking we wouldn't have enough time to see everything, but since it's on the smaller side, we were able to walk the entire museum pretty leisurely and left right at closing. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly; they know exactly when to walk up and interject with a fun fact while you're looking at a display. They seem to genuinely like the job and were super helpful with our questions. The guy up front doing the ticketing and merch sales was kind of a drip, but his morose vibe suits the place. They don't allow photography, which is understandable since much of what they have is only viewable in this building. (It still would've been cool if there was some photo op at the end of the self-guided tour where you could pose with something specific to the Museum of Death, kind of as a palate cleanser.) As soon as you walk into the hallway that leads to the stairs up to the main area, you're greeted by a large photo of Nicole Brown's near-decapitated head, which is when I realized exactly what this museum was all about. I thought it'd be mostly random skulls and taxidermy (which they do have plenty of), but I didn't even consider how focused they'd be on noteworthy true crime events in history (famous murders, cults, and so on). As one of the legion of true crime fans out there, I was hooked. I WAS expecting plenty of graphic content like the autopsy video in the medical examiner room and the collection of Native American artifacts made entirely of scalps. One of the few replicas was a lamp made to look like an Ed Gein original, though much everything else was authentic. Certain items like the cringe-worthy art done by serial killers in prison seemed tangential to the museum's whole identity, but they had plenty of interesting baubles and bits that did speak volumes about death and how we view homicidal, sudden, or self-inflicted death specifically. They also do this secularly which I appreciated (the "faiths" associated with Jonestown and Heaven's Gate don't count!). I honestly loved how disparate and somewhat chaotic everything was in here. I didn't see it as a negative but rather as a compliment to death as a subject in general. It's rarely neat or easy to take in. This place isn't gonna be set up like the Louvre. It really is an onslaught of never-before-seen (or at least hard to find) grisly imagery and thought-provoking memorabilia, to where it almost spins you around with how much there is to see. There's definitely a theme of violence throughout their inventory since, well, death by natural causes isn't usually museum-worthy. It's more like "Museum of Murder and Other Atrocities," so if you're into that kind of thing, I'd recommend wandering around in here and spooking yourself a little. It'll make you thankful to be alive. By the time we left, my friends said they felt sick and needed some fresh air, but I was too enthralled with everything to feel anything but amazement--at the depravity of humanity and what awaits us all in the end. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

this museum is not the for faint of heart. i've visited the one in NOLA before but this one seemed a bit larger. the staff is so cool here and contributed to the experience in the most subtle but exceptional way- especially anthony, who was informative and cool to talk to and even went above and beyond to give us a little bullet-pointed list on a post it note of cool/creepy spots for us to check out as we are not from here. they have some insanely cool artifacts that are displayed in a dignified manner and sectioned off in terms of theme- crime, funeral, cult, bones, etc. i love this place and will always support and visit if i can.

WHAT AN UPDATE, I haven't visited since they moved locations (rip to the two headed turtle) . I stopped in yesterday with my cousin whom I share a love of true crime with. There were so many awesome new pieces, a compelling new set up for the separate rooms per interests, and much more space for all the oddities the John Wayne gaycee art collection and jail letters are still my favorite pieces but I was enamored by the elephant skull and shrunken heads! I think this new location is perfectly laid out and a lot more organized with detailed educational information on each section. We had such an awesome time, Will definitely be back!

I've been wanting to see this for years- my husband and I were finally able to view while in town for universal studios so we were around. Finally! I'm giving this 5 stars because there literally is no other place like it. There does hold a lot of value in being able to come within a foot or less of actual evidence from some extremely high profile crime cases. Everyone takes to true crime. So this was that step above it. And this place gives you far beyond it too. It excels expectations. So 5 stars, well done. Will we come back, no. Someone did a 1 star and honestly, I agreed so much with their description. I cannot deny they were right about most everything. It was definitely less psychology, very factual about brutality of human life and then they sprinkle in evidence like Gacy's shoes, or Charles Mansons prison art... skin covered bibles... there's just a LOT of energy that can cause great anxiety, fear, depression and it is quite unsettling. Especially the lower level where they do feature dark web suicides on film. There are bits and pieces of pornographic material in there which indicate that the criminal minds do have a twisted, dark fascination with objectifying humans to be sexual animals, which highlights normality within humans to think that way of women or of humanity in general. If not careful it can send the wrong message, that this stuff is normal. It is a house of normalizing dark content. For those of us that could never do something remotely close to this, it leaves you twisted, confused and unsettled when you leave. Just know that it's not psychology based as much as it is presentation of murder- and lots of it. People who wouldn't do this or think this way, I believe, are looking for more a psychological thrill. Not gonna happen because that's not what it is. It's beyond. It delivers. 5 stars for that. If you draw the line on being thrilled or just interested then stick with true crime creators on YouTube. This, first hand, is brutality of murder....with rooms and rooms and walls of evidence.

Exceeded my expectations. Sensory and eye candy overload. A dream come true for those who love horror, true crime, and the macabre. There is no shortage of things to look at, I will definitely have to return as one trip was not sufficient. Friendly staff, A/C inside, the Museum also sells a lot of bad ass merchandise. I will be back and have recommended this place to my fellow weirdos.

Been wanting to come to this place for a few years now and we just decided to go. The guy at the counter was super friendly and very informative. Cameras or cell phones were not allowed in the actual Museum but upon entering the museum there's a little gift shop that you can take pictures. The museum just has a host of different crime scenes and newspaper clippings. They are all separated into little rooms for each category, they have a room for mortuary equipment, they have a room for Charles Manson and so on. They also have a little theater to sit down and watch a few short films. Overall, although the topic may be hard to swallow for some, we had a good time, and it was very interesting.

Honestly, fantastic museum and not what you expect. A lot of history in it and if you're into True Crime, this is the museum for you. We came by back in 2019 with our friends from out of the country and it was still at their old location. I didn't realize they moved since they kept the fountain and gate up front and the layout was the same. Until you walk in, everything was completely different and the owner confirmed they moved to a new building which is way nicer! It now has two floors and lots of space to walk. It starts off strong with the Black Dahlia. It is not for the feint of heart and they are very graphic in this museum. Full of crime scene photos and background history, news reports, etc. but very innovative. The owner is nice, not allowed to take photos but it's not really needed honestly. They have merch which is basically what you first walk into. It's not all crime, lots of taxidermy and other videos and photos that are related to death. Definitely a must visit! IG: @ammysalamii

So much to see in a small-ish space; rules (no photography) were clearly and professionally explained at admission and you could easily spend over an hour reading and seeing everything they have to offer, from animal wet specimens to art done by serial killers to gruesome photographs of the deceased and some of the most horrific car crash you've ever seen. Dead children, assault, dismemberment, beheadings, shrunken heads, and dead babies, so if you're squeamish or uncomfortable with death and gore you would want to pass on this. Overall, we had a great time and the staff upstairs was knowledgeable and friendly!

LA has an annoying amount of essentially pop-museums that aren't really museums, but disorganized collections of materials. The Museum of Death is one of many. The good: Staff was knowledgeable and often spoke with guests on what they were looking at There were some important points of history brought up The bad: What I was alluding to above is this is a random foray of pictures, props, and antiques with no real purpose. The museum of death tries to do too many things and explore too many concepts. I think they should rebrand as the Museum of Dark Death or something and focus on what people seem most interested in: murders, serial killers, and cults. They should get into the cultural impact and present facts. But instead this museum is a mishmash of nearly every kind of death that's poorly organized and very surface level. It's a lot of shock value: suicide in one corner, mortuary science in another, cannibalism peeping through, war crimes seeping in, and throwing in some automobile accident pictures. There's a lot do explore with death, but I wish this museum would do it a purpose other than shocking anyone who attends

My GF and I had always talked about coming here. For years we talked about it, so today we made a whole day of it! Parking around this area is a little sketchy tbh. I parked two streets over and it was fine. Nice little walk before and after the museum. Meter parking was 2 hours, so that was plenty of time. Once we got inside, the gentleman at the counter welcomed us and gave us the whole run down. Our total was only $41 and some change. Pretty sweet! There was a ton to see! So many crazy pictures, random things these psycho people owned, and other wild things lol. It sucked that phones/photography wasn't allowed but I get it. The tour lasted about an hour for us; it isn't guided so you're free to take as long as you want. After we had finished seeing everything, we exited to the main area. That's where we were able to shop around for a t-shirt or anything else. We got a shirt and a small pin! Such a cool experience! Definitely recommend for anyone who likes horror movies or just gruesome things in general lol.

The museum is very heavy. Lots of pictures and items that involve some sort of death, either by murder, accident, suicide or a death sentence. Not only does it contain pictures from California but events that happened in other countries and over time. Very informative but warning it's very gruesome. I love serial killer stories and I left with an upset stomach that day. It's a quick little stroll, you can see the whole place in about 2 hrs. Parking is outside and they have cute restaurants across the street.

They have a lot of cool stuff, the staff seemed knowledgeable & it's an overall cool set up they have. What was weird is how religiously the staff checks up on you... & stares lol. At one point one of the staff asked to see my dates camera roll because she pulled out her phone twice. Which I get the no photography rule, but that seems a bit excessive. Anyways besides having eyes on you a lot. The place is really cool I would definitely recommend people to this place. This is their new location, I've gone to their previous one and really liked it. Their new location is much bigger and has a lot more items to view. This is a self guided tour with no time limit which I love as someone who likes to take their time and read everything! I spent about an hour and 20 minutes here but if I'm honest I could've spent more time it's just I didn't really take time to see the animal exhibit. From what I saw at glance, they have a lot of animal skeletons, taxidermy and also preserved in jars. Not a big fan of this type of thing. I see a lot of negative reviews on TripAdvisor and such stating it's too graphic and it's not for kids...while I do agree with these reviews, this place is definitely graphic and not for kids, I don't agree with the low rating they give! It's literally called the museum of DEATH. What can one expect of a place named this? I will say however, this is definitely not a place for young kids. Yes, there are some graphic images on display and when I went, their cinema section was playing a really graphic video. To say the least, it's a deceased man on a table being prepped for what seems like the funeral. To summarize, if you are a crime junkie or are into cases like this, primarily the more known ones, this is the place to go. They also have smaller cases on display you might've not heard of before.

I've been wanting to come here for YEARS! They closed down their other location, so i patiently waited till i could finally visit their new location and WOWWW it was so worth the wait! This place has so many cool artifacts from serial killers to nazis to tribes! You can't use your phone in there but once you walk in you see why. There are many unseen crime scene photos from the 30's to the 80's as soon as you walk in! Definitely wouldn't recommend for children under 18. It's filled to the brim on each story with pictures, letters, clothes, skulls, I would've stayed there for way more hours if i could! If you do decide to come i would really take my time in here to look at every little thing you can it's so amazing!!! 10/10!!

The museum of death was definitely an interesting experience. I will say I did not expect it to be what it was because I did not read more on what the contents of what the museum would be. Despite my lack of research I would say it was a very curious walk-through. You definitely have to have the stomach to go through it all but you always have the opportunity to simply walk out if needed. The staff was friendly and there was definitely a lot to look at to occupy the hour self walk-through. If you're into serial killers, cults and raw pictures of death-this is the place to visit!

Truly an enthralling experience. 100% not for the faint of heart or young individuals but if you are a crime junky or just simply have morbid curiosity, this place is for you! The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable about each piece in the museum, don't be shy to pick their brain! It definitely made the experience that much more thrilling to hear all the details behind the exhibits. This is my second time here and I would come again and again. This museum is truly a hidden gem. It's not often that you get to see actual items/photographs from the dark side of history. The owners have really outdone themselves with putting this all together, their effort and dedication is shown the second you step inside. The new location is so spacious and easy to navigate. You could easily spend over an hour here.

I Can read, so I had an idea about what the museum of death dealt with, but nothing could've really prepared me for what's inside. No pictures-to be respectful. And I don't want to be too detailed either, but if you're in the area and you don't mind gore, I highly recommend coming here. Super informative and interesting.

We had my grandwife's birthday party here (wife's paternal grandmother) as a LIGHTHEARTED JOKE thinking it would be funny and heartwarming, a little way to lighten the mood of turning 96 for her (she's not a big smiler.) Food was good.

Great museum !! A must visit museum if you're in LA. You're not allowed to take pictures inside the museum & I won't say too much about what the museum has, but it's a must see attraction especially If you love crime documentaries One thing I will say, don't eat BEFORE going to this museum (if you're squeamish on gory things) Enjoy & have fun

Great if you're into true crime. Lots of detailed descriptions regarding famous cases and crime photos that can't be found online. Interesting specimens like embalmed animals, human heads, anatomical body parts. Gives you a good perspective on life and what death truly looks like. Definitely for a specific crowd who's into that stuff. Only giving it a 3 because I am not part of that crowd and went through the whole museum in 40 minutes. If you took the time to read through every single article and examined every photograph you could easily spend at least 2 hours here.

This place is fantastic. So much cool stuff. A must see dark tourism location in LA, please visit!

!!!DO NOT BRING CHILDREN OR IMPRESSIONABLE TEENS!!! Workers are very nice and the property is well kept. My only issue with this place is that it has VERY dark content. I've been here before but it was about 8 years ago when it was in a different one story building. I have a morbid fascination for serial killers and death, but it is in the context of psychology and being aware of the social cues, etc. I love horror movies and crime podcasts but this place turned my stomach and was such a heavy experience. I don't find this place to be educational or give any good information that would help people possibly identify harmful people. This is literally an alter and place of worship for serial killers. My boyfriend and my cousin came along with me for the visit and we were all very appalled by the people around us who were smiling, giggling, and joking about the content of the museum. If this was a place educating people on the psychology behind serial killers and mass deaths, then I would have way less of a problem, but this was just plain glorification. A warning to those still wanting to visit: Most photos in this "museum" are vulgar captures of mass deaths (wars, mass suicide, genocide), high profile murders ( serial killers, shootings, robberies, etc.), and after death processes (mortuary work, ancient rituals, etc.). These photos are very explicit and show mutilated bodies of all kinds with absolutely no censoring. Some areas like the ritualistic death ceremonies and mortuary stuff was educational but would include unnecessary scenarios such as: the main display for the mortician area being about a cannibalistic man who had consumed 6 humans. Many of the sections on serial killers looked like shrines rather than something to teach. Another thing that bothered me and should've been a warning was that there was a piece of "art" which was a mockery of the last supper where many evil people are sitting including hitler at the head of the table where Jesus would be (I'm not religious by any means but this is just outright glorification of violence and hatred). Basically don't expect to be educated and if you've got a sensitive stomach or hate body gore even in movies, do NOT come here.

You cannot take photos or video in here out of respect for the dead. However their staff on duty are very well informed and can go into great detail. I could spend hours in here reading all the items or watching the videos. The photos are very graphic so I would not recommend for small children but my teens were in awe touring the museum.

The Museum of Death gives you a little taste of everything that has to do with any kind of death, suicide, murder, and the mystery behind it. Definitely worth a visit. Be prepared to read and gaze at some vintage and new death of all kinds. Just as sidenote, no photos or videos are allowed and be ready to walk a flight of stairs. When we were there the elevator was out of commission so if stairs aren't your thing call in advance to make sure the elevator is working.

Welcome Home It has been so long since the news of the Museum of Death relocating. As soon as I read on Yelp that MOD had reopened ,I went to go to my favorite museum. When I set the new location to MOD, it took me to the old location (which is now closed). I immediately called the museum and they helped me out by telling me the directions. It took quite a bit more walking but after looking at the directions from where I parked (parking structure by Amoeba Music) it was a good 15 minute walking distance. (Me personally) I chose to park by Amoeba ;after I was done with MOD, I go to Amoeba to either buy new movies, music, or any merch and at the register the cashier can validate the ticket. The Staff at MOD are very friendly. First and foremost: NO PHOTOS ALLOWED. Out of respect for the dead. This museum is perfect if you're a fan of real life crime such as Black Dahlia, Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, etc. or learn about funeral planning, cults and so much more. Warning: If you have a weak stomach or can't look at graphic/ gruesome photos revolving the many faces of death then you can't handle the reality of life.

The rooms were filled with very interesting cases I have never heard of and being a crime enthusiast myself was very exciting to read about these case that happened in my neighborhood years ago! They had actual letters and paintings from serial killers. Had so much insights about wars, massacres, etc the only downside was no pictures. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable!

The owner is the coolest, he remembered my brother and I after we had stopped in previously and was super kind to us. Museum is extremely gruesome while being respectful of the dead. Every employee I encountered was super knowledgeable and friendly, giving extra details on pieces of entire exhibits. Really puts your own mortality at the forefront of your mind. Highly, highly recommend this gem

Great visit, it is decent sized not too big not too small. To start off it is very graphic. I've seen a lot worse on the internet though. If you have an easy stomach it's not for you but I really enjoyed learning, the most graphic thing is a video playing of forensics or funeral home workers preparing a body in which the head is opened up. So definitely not for kids under 13. But although videos like that are very graphic it is very interesting to see the process that you will go through. Wish they had more videos though. Definitely worth the experience and if you do have an easy stomach they have several restroom available throughout the museum. No photo or phones allowed whatsoever

No one was friendly lol couldn't tell if that was the gag. The orange haired lady seamed happy to help/ be there but everyone else was either just watching you . Or just take your money and here are the rules.

finally visited MoD on a Saturday which was my first mistake. parking will be difficult to find on the weekend, duh. luckily, we snagged a close-by spot next to a shelter which wasn't too bad. yes, the area looks suspicious; as long as you mind your business, lock your car, and don't keep any valuables out in the open... you'll be okay. i was not prepared to see parents walking their strollers (blocking exhibits & doorways) through the museum and showing their very young children extremely disturbing, graphic up close photos of murder scenes. it was also disappointing hearing people read the details of every murder scene out loud... not at all what i paid for. i wish the people running the museum would: 1) set an age restriction 2) create a designated children's stroller parking lot outside of the exhibits or outside of the museum 3) emphasized museum etiquette like keeping conversations quiet!!! overall, there was a lot of glorification of the manson murders and not enough oddities. i HIGHLY recommend Zak Bagans' The Haunted Museum instead. "Children under the age of 14 are not permitted, and 14 to 17-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult -- proof of age is required for all guests who tour the museum." too bad it is in Las Vegas, Nevada and not in Los Angeles, California. not sure if i would ever visit again which is really sad considering how long the museum was closed. totally not worth visiting, even though i tried my hardest to like it.

I will admit that I didn't do much research before deciding to come to this museum. I arrived with the expectation that I would be seeing a history of various methods of execution and/or torture from different cultures, countries, etc. I also expected to see photos and information on serial killers and things of that nature. What I was NOT expecting were numerous images that I found to be exploitative of the victims and their families. If you're into the macabre and the morbid I would recommend a visit. However, if you're looking for an educational experience I would look elsewhere. I'd also suggest that there should be an age restriction for entry. I don't think that the imagery and artifacts in this museum are appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. During my visit a couple had brought a young child with them. Many of the images on display are quite gruesome. Think crime scene and autopsy photos without any sort of censoring. Definitely not a place for a young child or teen.

"Are you glad to be alive?" Is the question I was left with at the end of this museum. There are two floors that are very well organized with an array of displays. Most of the displays in there have an informational plate near it and the staff are friendly and ready to answer any questions you might have for additional information. One thing that I feel is really important when it comes to these cases is not glorifying the killer, and I think the museum did a good job keeping things neutral with the cold hard facts and straightforwardness of it all. Although there is tons of graphic photos, I think the most jarring part for me was seeing how other people reacted to everything. For the most part everyone was respectful BUT, there was two kids ahead of us who were laughing and making fun of the victims. One even making a remark of finding a serial killer "iconic." Yikes. This museum attracts many audiences and reminds you how differently everyone reacts and views death. You never know when your time will come. So to loop back to the question at the beginning, yes. I'm glad to be alive and this museum will remind you of that if you so happen to choose to visit it.

I wish I had gone to this place at it's old location as I had heard about this place from plenty of tourism suggestions and I've always have been interested in crime. This place is just across the street from where I was eating at, Trejos tacos, and based on the reviews by others still has all the artifacts the old location had. They additionally had displays of shrunken heads, skulls, and taxidermied animals. Very interesting museum for sure!

This is one of the most unique attractions to visit in Los Angeles. I was raised in LA and know of so many places to recommend but the Death Museum is especially cool and unique. You will not find anything else like it. It isn't for everyone but you won't know until you visit. The good thing is the price to visit which is really reasonable. You can stay as long as you like or leave immediately. All the staff are cool, friendly and helpful. It's just a really great attraction to experience.

I had an amazing time at the Museum of Death, especially with my boyfriend as my tour guide! His extensive knowledge about all the exhibits made the experience even more fascinating.

A collection of death, murder, torture and suicide. Articles, memorabilia and history. Fascinating little collection of morbid stuff. I really liked it. People that work there are happy to talk about anything and explain in detail if you wish to engage them. It is a small two story exhibit you could blow thru it in 5 minutes or a couple hours, up to you. Nobody will rush you. They also have a cool gift shop. Well worth the measly $21 entry.

This place is perfect for those with a strong stomach and big curiosity. While it is filled with gory pictures, they are accompanied by texts of their history. Come prepared to read a lot and to leave the museum with a new way of seeing life.

This place is wonderful if you have a tough stomach. I'm a horror movie lover through and through and some of the images were pushing it for me. It was well worth the money, but I think doing it once is enough for me.

"Museum of Death"? You mean Museum of MURDER! This place is mostly photos of autopsies and mutilated bodies from crime scenes. Practically a sadistic garage gallery of photos taken from the coroners, or someone's sick little collection of gore from the Internet. There's very little informative material. Labels are sparse and short, here and there, but the serial killers all get full in-depth essays!? The exhibit on mortuary arts is a tad redemptive, but even that is lackluster. I guess, I was expecting this to be more like a history or anthropology museum -- showing cultural practices and artifacts surrounding death, burial, and grief -- there's so much to say! But, the MOD just turned out to some freak show at a bunch of murder and suicide victims' expense, sprinkled with homages to serial killers and mass murderers. Utterly tasteless, and disrespectful. I left feeling unsettled. How someone thinks it's okay to make money like this? I don't have a clue... Here's what I suggest: Keep your $21 (especially if you're visiting from out-of-town) for something more useful, and for the love of decency, DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS!
