We went to NYC for our honeymoon for a whopping 13 days, and the Museum of Sex was in the top 3 ranked activities for our entire stay, right next to Cabaret on Broadway! Make sure you give yourselves an entire day if you like to move slowly though museums. You'll need that time if you want to have a proper experience!
The ground floor is a store and gift shop, and the first floor moving upward is proper museum-style viewing, with artefacts like early toys, famous clothing, and furniture that is related to the industry. Definitely a must-see with your partner or by yourself, if you're interested in that sort of thing.
The next floor going up highlights film work and art through film that you may have studied if you're an artist and never got the chance to see in their entirety because of explicit content. Worth the watch if you're a Warhol fan.
The top two floors are Superfunland. It's an interactive, adult playground with a bouncy castle, skee-ball and other themed, adult-sized, carnival-style games. All the games are free, except for one. There is a ticketed 4D attraction on the top floor, which we didn't do for budget reasons but would have liked to. Once you're finished with Superfunland, you can slide down to the bottom floor--literally--to the bar and finish with amazing and reasonably-priced drinks and friendly staff. The bar is also open to the street and doesn't require a museum ticket to access, which is an awesome touch for those who want to come back and relax in an inclusive environment.
A note about the slide: if you're taller or bigger-built, expect to have some difficulty getting into the slide. It's definitely kid-sized! Well worth the experience going down though. If you don't want to squeeze yourself in there, you can go down the normal way, but what's the fun in that?
After the bar, you exit through the store again. If you're looking to buy merch or even a toy, the selection is great and the staff is open-minded, friendly, knowledgeable, and always down to chat.
All-in-all, an amazing experience filled with awe and wonder, even for the most stoic of us. Definitely worth the money. 100/10 would do again!
Of course, due to the nature of this museum you must be 18 or older to enter at the main door, and they do check IDs so have them ready. You also must confirm your tickets on your phone before you get into the line, and each person must have their own ticket on their own phone, so make sure that these are confirmed and sent beforehand. The line might be long, but it moves quick!
