Mushin Sports Lounge: Oakland Has an Upscale New Bar For International Sports Fans | Eater SF

"Born from a graduate-school project by Babatunde Afolabi and developed with partners Abidemi Afolabi and Kola Shobo, this Oakland lounge reimagines the sports-bar concept — think plenty of TVs, concrete floors, smooth marble details, and tufted Chesterfield sofas rather than a neon-drenched dive. I appreciated how it borrows high-end restaurant touches: groups can reserve tables for events, there’s a crafted cocktail menu and a weekend brunch, and even a members-only back lounge called “the Box.” The focus is intentionally international — broadcasting everything from Warriors and Niners games to Formula 1, the Olympics, soccer, cricket, and golf — reflecting Afolabi’s goal of celebrating Oakland’s diversity and creating a welcoming space (he immigrated from Nigeria). Cocktails highlight that global bent: the Tap Tap is a tribute to Haiti with Saint Benevolence rum clairin and kafé anmè coffee liqueur mixed with coconut cream, coconut water, falernum, and lime. The food menu is compact bar fare elevated a bit — wings with Thai chiles, truffle-dusted fries, a chicken sandwich with curry mayo — while the weekend brunch gets creative with a Cajun chicken-and-waffles dish with cinnamon-molasses waffle and Grand Marnier glaze, CocoElote fried sweet-corn ribs with arbol chili–lime aioli, and cornmeal pancakes topped with feta and bacon crumble. Memberships (currently $1,900/year with a waitlist) include priority reservations for sporting and pay-per-view events, access to the Box with no minimum, and quarterly members-only events; Afolabi plans to add perks over time. He intentionally limits crowding to keep service solid (aiming for only 10–15% standing room) and plans daytime passes for working or meetings and eventual Bay Area expansion. Mushin Sports Lounge is at 1814 Franklin Street, Suite 5G, Oakland, and is open 4–10 p.m. Thursday, 4 p.m.–1 a.m. Friday, noon–1 a.m. Saturday, and noon–10 p.m. Sunday." - Dianne de Guzman

Love this cocktail bar. Strong, creative cocktails with friendly service. Love the warm vibe and the DJ being able to read the room and spin some classic tunes. Will def be back.

They didn't have any ginger beer, only Canada Dry ginger ale, which is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. How do you make mules without ginger beer?? I ended up getting a Guinness. It was $8 for a 22oz bottle, which is a decent deal. Still, not cool to not carry ginger beer.

Out of all the establishments in Oakland this is definitely my new go-to. The staff and ownership take pride in what they do! Service is paired with a smile no matter the request. The ambiance is cool and a great place to unwind after work. Looking for afro-beats and some good food and vibes this is the spot!

Went here for an event and loved the ambiance—perfect for a relaxed catch-up. The cocktails looked great, and even though I don’t drink, they made an excellent mocktail. The service was warm and attentive, making the experience even better. Would definitely come back

I’ve been twice. The first time I went it was on a Friday. There was a dj and the vibe was fun and classy. The last time I went was on a Tuesday and it was pretty low key, but perfect for the vibe we were looking for. The food was good and I even enjoyed their signature mocktail. Last, but not least, customer service is A1! All the staff are friendly, fun, and accommodating.

My friend & I have been searching for another sports bar to check out in Oakland; one that'll cover basketball & soccer in particular. There are very few bars we know of that show soccer games, but we decided to take a chance and made a reservation at Mushin to watch the El Clásico. Here is a summary of our experience today: Ambiance - clean, classy, and feels like a party all at once with the DJ playing music in the background (mixture of 90s-00s hip-hop/R&B). The back area was reserved for a private party, which can be organized separately with staff for future social events. Plenty of TV screens throughout. It was pretty busy when we arrived at 12:45pm on a Sunday, so we were grateful for making the reservation ahead of time. Drinks - signature cocktails were distinct from each other & delicious. I had the caipirinha & Tap Tap cocktails (only one of which I could show, because the other I lovingly consumed right away), whereas my friend had a few IPAs. Prices are standard Bay Area-wise ($5-6 for beers, $10-15 for cocktails) Food - good, but limited. They do have a brunch menu which is separate from another I've seen online. Fried chicken & waffles were nice. If you're extremely hungry, I'd recommend eating elsewhere beforehand, as portions are small-medium at best. Service - the staff were very amicable and willing to accommodate our needs, whether it be changing the channels to our requested game, making friendly banter, or checking in on us to make sure everything was met despite how busy it was. Overall, our time here was fantastic! Needless to say, I will be coming back here again and bringing along other friends to share the same experience. But also because I'm awfully curious about this avocado margarita... Cheers!

From the moment you walk in, you’re embraced by a classy yet inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding after work or enjoying a lively evening out. The decor is sleek and modern, complementing the sophisticated vibe. The food here is outstanding—each dish is thoughtfully prepared, deliciously presented, and bursting with flavor. Paired with their superb drink selection, you really can’t go wrong. If you’re a sports fan, Mushin 2.0 is a fantastic spot to catch the game. They have multiple screens visible from any seat, ensuring you won’t miss a moment of the action. To top it off, the music adds a great rhythm to the overall experience without overpowering conversation. Hands down, Mushin 2.0 is my go-to spot for a great meal, classy ambiance, enjoyable music, and catching sports games. Highly recommend checking it out!

Ordered the bowl of ranch with a side of wings and one piece of celery split into 3. That was delicious! Would've been so much better if there was more celery. Service was slow and generally felt ignored
