Music Box Theatre

Ended up scoring a last minute seat and went to see Suffs and was totally blown away with the beautiful intricate design and details of this theater. The seats were comfortable and the basement area was large. The bathroom area had a super comfortable couch and a very lovely area to get some down time or have that special meeting in the ladies room. The people that worked there from the people outside to the people inside were classy, fantastic, and truly made the experience a 5-star treat. If you’re going to see a show here, you will definitely love it.

Really well run. Suffs is awesome, but the theater itself is also a star. They have people selling concessions by the seats which makes it so much easier. They let us line up inside the theater instead of out in the cold. The bathrooms are clean. Place is gorgeous.

This was a delightful theatre. We could see and hear well and there didn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. Staff was courteous and helpful and the talent was amazing.

The play at the music box was fantastic(Purlie Victorious) but the seating was very tight. They also waited too long to start letting the audience into the theater. The small space,people standing over top of each other taking off their coats made it seem even more crowded.

Was here for Suffs. Beautiful mid-sized theater, no concession stand but there will be vendors coming to your seat.

5 stars for the theater that has my favorite broadway show of 2024, SUFFS! It’s about women getting the right to vote and it’s such a tearjerker. Bravo bravo!

Went with my daughter to see SUFFS, what an incredible show! The venue is gorgeous and everyone there is incredibly helpful and kind. It was my daughters 1st ever show in the city! I couldn't have asked for a better experience for her!

We came to see Suffs, which was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's a small theater and the seats are very very small. Not great for larger people or taller people. Standing room is sold which is distracting because we were in the back row of the floor and people kept popping their heads by us. The theater is beautiful and the staff were all very helpful. Typical broadway theater set up.

My mom and I saw Suffs here! The show was a 10/5! Go see it before it closes or check it out on tour! The theater itself is small, which means there are lots of really great seats! We sat second row mezzanine and had a perfect view. The one negative was there is no upstairs bar/concession stand. You have to go down to the basement level to get a full bar. The seats were also really small so it felt a little tight. There are definitely better laid out theaters, but the shows here are top notch!

I came here to see The Suffs on Broadway, ironically just after a clown was elected--perfect timing. To my surprise, the play exceeded expectations with sharp humor and plenty of comedic moments that cleverly highlighted the ironies of this country. The plot was well organized, the singing was outstanding, and the storyline kept me engaged throughout. My favorite part was Ida B. Wells delivering her powerful song emphasizing the message that it's our turn--it was incredibly moving and inspiring. The theater experience was mostly enjoyable, though the temperature started off comfortable, but after the second act, the AC became noticeable. It became difficult to focus on the show, and by the end, I had to leave quickly as it became uncomfortable. Overall, the production itself was stellar. The witty writing, talented cast is recommend for everyone.

Came to see Suffs last night & this theater is great. Opened the doors around 30min before the show and processed us all in 2 lines. Given the place is relatively small, there was plenty of time to get in, get situated, maybe a drink or snack & get to the seat Sight lines are not staggered so if you have a tall person in front, sorry for you! I was lucky to have a shorter person so my view was not obstructed. Seats are close together but there is enough legroom so it was nice not bumping knees on your neighbor's seat back Would totally come back

I love this theater! Very historic, so yes the seats are quite sqooshed. We bought our tickets day of at the Times Square ticket booth and got a great deal. I'm glad we didn't go for the row C tickets bc I think that most shows here would be best viewed slightly farther back. Almost the entire cast came out to sign playbills which is always a treat! BC of the location, lots of shows were getting out at the exact same on one little block. Such a fun atmosphere! I saw plenty of people getting into cars so it's not impossible if you have someone in your group who is not a great walker. Be careful no matter who you are bc the sidewalks are not flat. We saw multiples shows in April 2024, and yep theaters are not letting you early anymore. We waited outside, which was fine bc the weather was nice and we talked a little with the people around us.

I came here to see Suffs for a Saturday matinee with a friend. The Suffs show was amazing, definitely recommend! It was funny, poignant, and the performances were stellar! The theater itself was pretty small and a bit old. We sat in the right orchestra section and the view was good. However, the seats were so tight so I definitely felt bad for the tall people. I noticed there were a lot of tall people just standing around and not sitting until the show started. The concession stand was downstairs next to the restrooms and the merchandise. We ordered sodas and there's free refills.

Saw Suffs for a second time, it's such a great show! This is a smaller Broadway theater - it's easy to navigate and while the rows are narrow there's plenty of room for my short self. The seats are comfortable, ushers friendly, and the show is one of my favorite new musicals!

This historic Broadway theatre located in the Times Square area of NYC was built on a smaller scale with 860 seats in a neo-Georgian style. The view from every seat is good. I had a side orchestra seat for the play Suffs. It is about the woman's suffrage movement of 1920. I thought it was one of the best broadway shows I've seen. I just loved the writing, performances and the music. I hope it wins a Tony for best musical.

Saw a matinee of purlie victorious here-- staring Leslie Odom Jr. I got my ticket through the lottery & was literally in the front row. The seats are tight however the first row has more leg room than the other. I can tell because I felt knees in my back throughout the play. Restrooms were clean and staff was friendly from the brief encounters I had with them.

This theater is located right off Time Square in the same block as the Marriott. We were shocked to see a HUGE line forming to let in for show - Suffs - this was still in preview for the opening of the new broadway but the staff didn't let anyone in until the start of the show - and this was a matinee. We wrapped ALL the way around the block and were yelled at by the Swiss store. We were nervous we'd miss the show start, but they did end up starting late but the staff didn't explain anything. I was able to use the bathroom in a panic - they had one not too far from the balcony where we sat, and a water fountain. We would've for sure gotten concessions but again since we were panicking to get in I can't tell what the offering was like.

A darling little theater. A lot of the seating is in the two balconies, which are not handicap accessible. The show Suffs is incredible.h

We saw Suffs last night and thought it was great.Meaningful message and a fabulous cast. I thought the theatre-where I have seen many shows-was really well run. Ladies room was clean and lots of stalls. The bartenders were amazing and totally hustled to take care of a very long line . The ushers were really sweet(we were a few minutes late) and seated us at an appropriate break. Seats were very comfy;of course they are close together, its an old theatre. See the play and enjoy this historic theatre

My friend and I saw Suffs at the Music Box Theatre a few weeks ago, and it was fine. Pretty similar to most Broadway theaters in terms of location, comfort of seat (or lack thereof, of course), space between rows, concessions, etc. My only real problem with it was that they didn't let us into the theater until maybe 10-15 minutes before the performance time, which was so strange to me. So then all of us that were there for the matinee performance were in this crazy line all the way down W45th and then wrapped around onto 7th Ave. The security at the Swatch store kept coming out to yell at people because the line to get into Music Box Theater/Suffs was blocking the store entrances. And then of course, you can't sit hundreds of people in 10-15 minutes, so the performance was late. And I definitely would have bought a glass of wine or another drink or concession but we barely had time to wait in the line for the restroom before worrying we were going to miss the beginning (since we weren't sure if they were going to start late or not). Maybe this was just because Suffs was still in previews or something, but this was chaotic and bizarre. No one told us anything either, so we were never sure if it was intended, if something had happened, or if they were going to delay the start time. I don't usually see shows in previews, but this was new to me and it definitely didn't make the experience at Music Box very good. Otherwise, like I said above, pretty standard theater.

What a great Broadway venue!!! Wearing WHITE and seeing Suffs for my mother's 76th birthday bash weekend

My mom and I came here to see purple victorious which was a phenomenal play. One of the best that I've seen. The actors were amazing the script was amazing and it was just such a feel good story. Theater however is also amazing, but we were a bit disappointed that our seats had a very obstructed view and we were not made aware of this when we bought the tickets at the box office. I think that if the theater was constructed a bit different the seats on the side would not have such obstructed views and miss out on pivotal parts of the show. I do like that the theater is smaller and cozy.

First time at the Music box theatre. This is a really small and cozy theatre. The staff there were just in good spirits, helpful. They had 2 lines which made it very accessible to enter into the theatre quickly from the cold. The play was just phenomenal! The theatre was located in a great location..across from the Lion King so we didn't have to endure that traffic. Great location, great staff!!

Comfortable enough theater, not a bad seat in the Mezzanine, not as steep as many theaters. Originally built for Irving Berlin in 1920, part of Shubert beginning soon after and by 1941 they shared ownership with Berlin. In 2007 they became sole owners. Not a wheelchair accessible theater, unavoidable steps and of course as most, no elevator up to the Mezzanine. I found the seats to be fairly ample as compared to other theaters though I always wonder how folks back in the 1920's fit with their elaborate dresses and large topcoats. I immediately remembered the scaffolding on the stage from Dear Evan Hanson and the same prop was used for Dancin. Honestly, the Mezzanine affords a full birds eye view of the entire production, not a bad seat up there and staggered on an angle where you can see right thru the seats in front of you (maybe not so on the sides/angles seats). I was in row E 103 and my seat was perfect, no complaints at all. Located right off of 8th Ave, plenty of restaurants up and down 8th & 9th. This street has been under repair forever, it's not very easy to navigate with the construction & crowds if you have any mobility challenges.

I am fortunate and blessed to be able to watch Broadway Musicals & Plays in NYC. The first time I watched Dear Evan Hansen was back in 2019. The hype began when it debuted and I had to buy a ticket to watch it. Last year September 2021, it hit the big screen which I then watched it in theatres. It was just as great and I loved it in a different way being that it was two-dimensional, you don't experience it the same as watching a live performance and an orchestra. But with all the close-ups and cinematography, it gave it more of a movie like feeling. This past weekend before flying out to NYC, my work colleague had put in for lottery tickets and won 2 seats for Sunday evening! Lucky me, I got to see it again for only $42 plus taxes! Our seats were Center Orchestra H! Music Box Theatre is right in the middle of Times Square/Theatre District. Coincidently it's on the same street as Junior's Restaurant & Bakery on 45th St. NYC is doing well as far as covid levels, so the concession stand downstairs is now serving drinks and alcohol to guests watching a show.

Like many others, I came to see Dear Evan Hansen a few weeks ago. We had Orchestra tickets about 20 rows back from stage right. Even though I was seated next to the aisle edge closest to the wall, the view was very clear and you could see 95% of the stage, which leads me to believe there are no bad seats on the orchestra floor. The seats were decently comfortable for the duration of the show. We enjoyed the show though felt the current lead's singing chops--while pretty impressive, and certainly his acting was splendid --could be a notch better. The actors playing Cynthia Murphy, Alana Beck and Connor Murphy stood out vocally. Interesting storytelling and glad to have experienced this show! Side notes: appreciated this theater required masks to be worn and vaccination cards presented mid-April 2022. Also bathrooms were clean.

What a pleasure to see a complex review like Dancin' in this jewel box of a theatre. We were second row upper orchestra. The sight lines were perfect, the acoustics superb, and the dancers magnificent--all enhanced by the gold and glitter of this classic New York theatre.

Small venue. Every seat has a good view. Good acoustics. The seats are designed for people who are 5'6". I'm 6' tall and just fit into my seat. The ponytail of the woman sitting in front of me kept rubbing against my knees. Can't imagine what it would be like to be a larger person in this theater. The AC was inadequate. Meh experience.

Been here before but attended the Dear Evan Hansen Broadway Show tonight. It is so great to be back in NYC for a Broadway show! The venue is clean and rather large. The staff is friendly and helpful! Surprisingly enough, the orchestra seats are very comfortable with enough leg room and you don't feel like you are a sardine sitting next to people. The sound is perfect! I was seated in D6 and for this show, the seat was perfect! I could see the entire stage and what was going on! On a side note regarding the show - great acting! A modern plot. It was good, but I'm not sure it deserved all the awards it received! Covid-19 Protocol - Mask at all times in theater. Must show vaccination card.

Well we saw Dear Evan Hansen here! Loved the show but the theatre is a bit dated. Fortunately we didn't have anyone who was taller than us sitting in front of us so we could see! The seats are not that comfortable. The show didn't start on one which was also a bit annoying since you get wanded now so going to the theatre is not just showing up At 5 is the hour! The best part of the show was waiting after and getting all the autographs from The actors! Since it was a Sunday they all came out, took pictures and signed autographs! That was just lovely especially for my teen!

Dear Evan Hansen is housed by this theater. I know what I am expecting from the seats I picked for my group. Seat location is fine . We had good views. I find though the seats cramped. I am a petite and short person. How much more for tall people. The price we paid for the ticket should justify what kind of show we are watching and the theater showcasing the show. Definitely two thumbs up for the show. The sounds and lightning did not meet my expectations. The concession stand is no where to found , it only has a small spot that sells drinks and few snacks. Restroom is small too.

I will confirm what others have said the worst theater on Broadway and we see 5-6 plays a year. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT buy seats in the first 1-4 rows in orchestra you will waste your money as i did last night watching Dancin when all we could see are basically their midsection and up. The stage is 4 1/2 feet high. Paid top dollar for a miserable experience. Frank C.

Just saw Dear Evan Hansen....orchestra right row K....Cozy theater and figure all seats are at least pretty good ...these were definitely above average and great considering the reasonable price....looking to my left 50' The tix were 3-4 x what I paid and other than a couple of scenes where I saw the profile and back of one of the actors the other was well framed....so may I say also 10stars for Dear Evan Hansen! Wish I could have seen Ben Platt when he was there but even the current cast is spectacular!!!!

A nice old time theater. One tip. Seats are comfortable but the rows are very close so tight leg room. The ushers are very friendly and helpful. Getting in through security is a drag. Seems to me that things could be speeded up it the bag checker walked down the line while people were waiting. Give them a card or something to give to ticket taker. Just a thought

Saw Dear Evan Hansen here had a great time The place is beautiful inside The one thing I have to say is that they either need to make the air conditioning colder or replace it because it got really warm in the balcony but I'll be back regardless

Very comfortable even though not much leg room. Very organized. Nice employees handling security and seating. Stairs are not unusually narrow like some theaters. We had a comfortable climb up and down the stairs. Plenty of room to exit out through the alley exit. You come out right on the street. No crowding out the front entrance. This is a lovely old theater. Beautiful chandeliers adorn the ceiling. The seats, carpets, stairs, exit floors are well maintained and clean. I've been here for other shows. No obstructed views of the stage as far as I can tell. Small theater so it's easy to see the stage. I enjoy coming to The Music Box each show I see. No complaints from me.

Great small venue with comfortable seats. Bathroom situation isn't the best. We almost didn't have enough time during intermission to use the restroom. Good acoustics and nice views. We were in the second row of the mezzanine and the view was great!!

Flew to NY for the day and went to the theater to watch Dear Evan Hansen to celebrate my niece's bday and because my daughter really wanted to watch the show. The theater design is great and had that theatrical artsy vibe that truly enhanced the ambiance. The show was great and the sound quality was too. The upper level seats were a bit cramped , but I think most theaters are. However my complaint is with the temperature. When it gets too cold I go into hibernation mode. We truly enjoyed the show but couldn't help nodding off from time to time since I go into hibernation mode if it gets too cold for me to handle.

Here to see Dear Evan Hansen. They warned us not to be late or we wouldn't be seated. And to expect heightened security (probably because of UN meetings in the city). Nice bathrooms downstairs and upstairs from the main theatre entrance. Good variety of drinks and snacks. My husband realized after he bought the tickets for a Wednesday matinee that the understudy of the lead would be performing. We came anyway since it might be years before we get back. It was a wonderful performance. I think every patron was crying. Even my big, tough husband. The subject was sobering. I wish there wasn't so much profane language though.

Nice theater. We have been able to see several shows here, including Dear Evan Hanson, Deuce and Dame Edna. Very easy to get in and out of for performances and wonderful staff.

Each of the three times I've seen DEH, I've had an enjoyable experience mainly because the show is amazing. The theatre is small and the overhang of the balcony doesn't affect the view from the back rows as it would in the Richard Rodgers. The seats are relatively comfortable but there's not much space between you and the row in front of you. So, it's common courtesy to get up to allow people to pass you. Unfortunately, during one of my visits, I sat next to a guy who would not stop spreading his legs and literally draped his jacket across the armrest and into my lap. Seriously, just keep your legs pointed to your wife and keep your jacket to yourself! I kept reading conflicting views on the front row. Some people said it was a partial view, some said it was fine. I was lucky to get a seat in the third row and opted for that instead of the first or second row. It was a perfect seat to see everything without having to look upwards. But if you are in the front rows and have trouble seeing a lot on the stage or if you are short or you have a child with you, make sure you ask for a booster seat from one of the ushers. They only have a select number of them and I don't think they have rules about saving them for certain people. Anyone can ask for one. I'm not sure if there's a bathroom upstairs but the bathroom downstairs is conveniently located with plenty of space to accommodate the crazy line of women that inevitably forms! Personally, I like to get to the theatre early. If you are like that, just know that you'll enter from the rightmost door so you could start a line that grows toward the Marriott. I'm not sure if it depends on the weather or on the security staff but they will let you into a holding area prior to the doors officially being opened 30 minutes prior to the show. I recall being let into the holding area almost an hour before curtain. At that time, they just do a bag check, so make sure you have your bags open for inspection. In the holding area, they have you form a U-shaped line down the hall and back. So, when you enter the theatre, don't stand around. Get in line! :)

Wonderful place for a Broadway show! A little smaller than expected inside, but to be honest, it was definitely a positive. Perfectly proportioned for a show like the one we saw- Dear Evan Hansen. Check it out! (Especially since a total stranger recommends it )

By far, this is the worst and most unpleasant theatre on Broadway. No warning that they have a high stage which prevents many rows from seeing the cast and entire show even in the center orchestra. Old seats and uncomfortable. What a disappointment!!

I really like this theater. I feel like it's a smaller theater (maybe around the size of the broadhurst or maybe even a little smaller?). Plenty of restrooms on the basement level. It's a fairly small theater, I like intimacy of it. There are very few bad seats. However, if you are a tall person, the leg room (at least on the mezzanine level) is not good, but it's only a couple of hours of uncomfortable. And I took the previous reviews' advice and didn't order anything to drink. Currently, "Dear Evan Hansen" is playing here, and I imagine it will be for a while. The first act, I couldn't help but think, "Oh God, what a train wreck!" However, the second act ties it up beautifully. It really is that good. If you are a parent with tweens or teens, take them to this.

I loved this theater! We saw Dear Evan Hansen here recently. The show was fabulous, and I enjoyed the space. We had been at Hamilton the night before and found this theater so much more comfortable. It's a small theater... the upside being that all the seats are pretty much good seats. Like any older theater, the seats and rows are compact, but there is enough room to be able to enjoy the show. Temperature was kept consistent. We had front row mezzanine seats, which were excellent. We were close enough to see the actors' faces, but far enough away to see the whole stage. No annoying bars blocking the view like some have. I would pick those seats time and again... perfect!

Seats are a bit tight but my issue is with the sound engineer who let the behind stage orchestra overwhelm the leads at various times during Dear Evan Hansen. As fantastic as the orchestra was (from my left center orchestra seat) we came to hear the leads. Period.

This theater looks smaller than I remember. Last time I was here, I sat in mezzanine to see August Osage County. I remember being able to see the whole stage and was very happy with the comfort of the seats. I felt the same this time around when I came to see Pippin. I sat in the last orchestra aisle and was still happy to be able to see the entire stage. The seats don't look it, but are stadium style which is a huge help. Also, there are a lot of stalls in the bathroom so it doesn't get too crowded.

Wow Dear Evan Hansen is a masterpiece highlighting today's socially inclined youth and the impact it can have on their lives. Beautifully written and performed with a small but powerful cast and band orchestra situated on stage. Set in an older theater with minimum restroom stalls and space for selling merchandise. I LOVED the digital screens and the "silence your cell phones" gimmick was so cute. Simple stage with beautiful panels which were matrix like to depict the internet abuzz. I would highly recommend this musical! #youwillbefound The only thing is that I would wish the playbill or the show would offer a suicide support line to the local community just in case.

Saw Dear Evan Hansen here, this is a review of the venue not the show. The show would have gotten 5 stars! This theater is one of the smaller scaled venues in the area, which works great for the show there. The main drawbacks to that is it is small, moving around during intermission is a challenge and if there were concessions...I never found them. I also snagged the last ticket available, which meant balcony aisle seat. I was never so happy to be vertically challenged. If my legs were two inches longer I would not have fit the space between the seat in front of me.

This theatre is a lot smaller than the other's surrounding it, creating a more intimate space between the actors and guests. I had standing tickets for Dear Evan Hansen, so sneakers were a must! The show was beautiful and endearing, the actors were brilliant! It was my first broadway show and I think this theatre was a great start!

Went to see Dear Evan Hanson here. The theater is not very big but quite nice. I was a bit upset that the upper section seats were not cheaper. After now having gone, I will say there are not many bad seats. I was in the middle row of the upper section, stage right and the view was almost completely clear. The seats are comfortable and rather spacious for relative to most theaters.

Saw Dear Evan Hansen in this absolutely stunning jewel of a theater. Nothing like these iconic theaters in NYC!! LOVED every moment !!

Very functional house of a moderate size. The sightlines are good all over and nothing feels too far from the stage. There's a good traffic flow in the interior, with the doors into the house on the mezzanine level opening into a fairly wide lobby hallway. The restrooms are a touch small and lines can form at intermission, so plan accordingly. The mezzanine has perfectly acceptable leg room.

I really loved my experience at music box! I went to see Dear Evan Hansen and loved the show! When we arrived at the theater we joined the line outside as we waiting for the doors to open. I think the line started moving about 30 minutes before curtain. It moved quickly and we could take some pictures with the sign while we waited. Once we got into the lobby it was clear that it was a pretty small theater. It felt like the lobby was cramped but you get out of the lobby quickly to find your seats. The ushers told us to head upstairs for our balcony seats. On the way up we made a quick pit stop at the bathrooms (another line that went quickly). We got to the top of the stairs and found our seats. Again, the theater is small but the seats are comfy seats. In my opinion, I really love how small it is. No matter where you sit you're so close to the show and the sound is great! The only "bummer" moment I had was that I couldn't really find merch for the show. In hindsight I realized there were some very small kiosks but I thought those were ushers. I was sad to have missed a souvenir.

Let me start by saying I've never left a bad review of a theatre before. I spent a lot of money on Dear Evan Hansen tickets for my mom and me only to have the most uncomfortable experience. It's early August and the mezzanine level gets insanely warm. I actually had to go downstairs to complain about it before someone had the common sense to turn the air on. And even then it feels like just a faint breeze. It's also worth mentioning that the orchestra overpowered the singers at many points throughout the show. Not sure if that's bad acoustics in the space or a shoddy sound person on the show, but that was pretty disappointing, too.
