The Ultimate Guide to Hot Dogs and Sausages in Denver | Eater Denver

"The menu is straightforward at this classic spot near DU, which is itself the Denver spinoff of the original that opened in Boulder over 30 years ago. Whether you’re looking for Chicago-style or a chili dog, this casual stand has something for everyone. Don’t forget to order a cup of cheese sauce with your fries." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Where to Eat and Drink Around DU This Fall (Whether You Are a Student or Not) | Eater Denver

"Affordable and satisfying – it’s no wonder students are sold on Mustard’s Last Stand. Though the shop small and simple (while managing to be covered with Chicago memorabilia), you’ll think you died and went to the Windy City with one bite of the Chicago-style dogs and cheese fries." - Gigi Sukin

Google
Hot dog and burger place primarily featuring Chicago dogs among the many offerings. The Chicago classic dog is exactly that and delicious. The fries are very good too. Counterservice is fast and professional. The inside is often crowded especially at mealtimes. However, the tables outside are shaded and very comfortable in good weather. They do have password protected Wi-Fi available for guests. There is a small shared parkingot to the left of the shop. Parking can often be difficult to non-existent; I got the last space when I went.

Google
Love the vibe here, but was disappointed with my Chicago glizzy. It was okayyyyyy, but I'm not sure I'll be back. I do like an Italian beef sandwich so I might* venture out to try one once University isn't on the surface of the sun.

Amelia VonAhn

Google
I got the charbroiled hamburger and it was not very good at all. I saw all the good reviews and figured I’d try this place out , I honestly wish I wouldn’t have Hate to say it but a Mc Donald’s cheese burger would’ve been much better and much cheaper. Fries are good. My grandmother said her hot dog was decent Won’t be coming back though that’s for sure

Google
It's everything you'd expect and more than you could hope for! If you're looking for great dogs in Denver, you'll find them at Mustard’s Last Stand! This place is a local institution, serving up mouthwatering Chicago-style dogs, juicy bratwursts, and some of the best crinkle-cut fries around. The moment you step inside, you're hit with that classic, no-frills, old-school hot dog stand vibe. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and the food is absolutely spectacular. The hot dogs have that signature snap and the toppings are fresh. Not a hot dog person? No worries! Their Polish sausage and Italian beef, fantastic! They have vegetarian options, but I haven't tried them yet. Whether you’re a lifelong Chicago dog fan or just someone who appreciates great food done right, Mustard’s Last Stand delivers! It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately start planning your next trip back. 5/5 - Absolutely a must-try in Denver!

Google
I have been coming to this place since I was a little kid it's always been delicious. If you have never been here I highly recommend you come. The hotdogs here are always good and the Chile is delicious. I will definitely be back here again. Make sure you stop in if u haven't already. The employees are friendly and the food always served hot and fresh..

Google
Phenomenal food and fantastic service. The vibes are immaculate and even though they’re from Chicago it scratched the itch for a real hot dog place like I miss from New York. My 2 year old had a blast which is always a bonus. The tofu Reuben was delicious and my wife had the Italian sausage with peppers and said it was delicious as well. The prices were very reasonable and the decor was so much fun. Also if you love pickles grab the whole pickle it’s enormous and delicious. We will absolutely be back thank you guys so much!

Google
The Chicago dog was super good, I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture. My husband really enjoyed the bratwurst sandwich. The chili cheese fries were really good though!!

Google
It's a hot dog place but it rocked. Lots of choices from what I saw even non meat. Got the 1/4 pound char dog Chicago style and M got the Polish. Simply amazing. Great snap, perfect topping ratio and the bun was awesome. The fries were good at that Garlic ketchup brought a really solid flavor. I'm loving hot dogs and so far this is my Denver pick.
google avatar

Barb S.

Yelp
Best Italian beef sandwiches in Colorado! Thank you for being here. Hot dogs are good too.
google avatar

Shahan A.

Yelp
Food was fine, but I asked for a sandwich and got a hot dog. Idk if that's their brand or something, but like. If I ask for a sandwich, I should get a sandwich. Fries were great though. Had nice crisp, and even better with the garlic parmesan sauce or whatever.

Yelp
A legendary stop if you're near Denver University. My family members love all of the toppings on their hot dogs but the classic hot dog with ketchup and mustard is just as good in my book. It's affordable, timely, and a hole in the wall gem. It's also located near an insomnia cookies location that adds for another delicious treat! Mustards last stand is deemed many Littleton and Denver natives favorite hot dog.

Yelp
Came in here for a quick bite. Was in the mood for some chicago hotdogs. Did not disappoint to say the least. Service was quick and ambiance was homey. Good is great. Corn dogs are pretty good too

Yelp
Love the food at Mustard's. I have been coming here for decades. Not so great experience today. So they have 3 sizes of fries: Taste , Small, & Large. This was the "small". I asked if that was the "taste" and they assured me it was the small. I said I need more fries and ordered another small (for another $3) and half assumed they would just give me more fries. Nope. Still love the food, but this place may be losing some luster. Make it right!!

Jake B.

Yelp
Incredible beef, hot dog, and fries. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Must go when in town! Check out their Denver and Boulder locations.

Yelp
First time at this establishment. Parking was tight, limited spaces available. The price seemed higher than it should have been for a party of two. The customer service was as average as could be. The food was enjoyable. We ordered chili fries, corn dog, soda, fries, and a specialty hot dog. The ambiance was nice with the patio seating. Inside was a bit tight of a seating area. No music playing on this visit. I couldn't help thinking of how I would improve this experience if I were a business owner.

Isabella S.

Yelp
I am big dog fan but this one was NOT IT!!! I have never in my life left a dog unfinished, but tonight was a first. I saw the highlighter green relish and I knew it was over.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm from the East Coast where we worship a good dog. Mustards Last Stand delivers on all levels... lots of choices, lots of topping, etc. Just a really delicious dog. I highly recommend the Polish Dog... Def get it with saurkraut and mustard... also get the jerk sauce on the side for dipping! Really good stuff. Sides are good as well, plus a great kids menu. Go to or order from Mustards Last Stand... you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
After 9 months of not being able to eat hot dogs (due to pregnancy) and we randomly stopped on the way home from the hospital. Great spot and tasty hot dogs and sausages!
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
Excellent Chicago Dogs. Great burgers, Italian beef, fries and polish sausage. It's the closet thing to authentic Chicago.
google avatar

Melissa K.

Yelp
10000% not anywhere even close to Chicago style anything. 0 stars. Italian beef made me want to hurl. Foul.

C A.

Yelp
The employees are very nice The interior is SUPER gross and needs a deep detailed clean. Flies everywhere. Crusted over surfaces. Food was not worth visiting for, it was bland and dry- I had the veggie dog. Maybe it was good when there was zero veg options on the market but I've had better vegan food literally anywhere else especially at home. Frozen food would be better than this.
google avatar

Yelp
This place brags about Chicago-style food so I just had to try it. Sure enough, eating their beef sandwich was like being back at Portillo's. Right now the atmosphere inside the place is lacking because of COVID. They have a barrier set up so you can't go much further than just inside the door. Ordering through the face mask was a little challenging, but the order was correct when they brought it out to my car. (I forgot to ask, so fortunately, they included a generous handful of ketchup packets for the fries!) I like my beef dry (not gravy-soaked because that makes the bun soggy), so I was happy they included a large container of tasty gravy that I could dip my sandwich into before each bite. YUM! The meal was heavenly and I look forward to going back when I can put a pin in their Chicago map, see the rest of the Chicago decorations and eat on their front patio.

Ebrahim A.

Yelp
Great, tasty, filling hot dogs and sandwiches. You can't go wrong with the "chicago classic". Must grab, if you're in Denver.
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
As close to a real Chicago dog as I've gotten in Denver! I've always been happy to satisfy my craving for a good Chicago dog at this spot. I highly recommend!

David B.

Yelp
Best hotdogs around the Italian sausage and fries are great too. I highly recommend this spot

Patches O.

Yelp
*Update* have gone here several more times as it's pretty much the only convenient burger spot nearby (attention competition - huge opportunity here) and after several dry ass burgers just straight up asked why they don't season their burger meat AT ALL. The answer? "the owner doesn't want us to season the meat" if you're the owner reading this, you're a fucking moron.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Their Vienna beef Chicago dogs and Italian beef sandwiches with Au jus gravy bring me back to Chicago like nothing else. They also have a good giardiniera

Steve S.

Yelp
Ordered 2 chili cheese dogs. I had to pay extra for cheese on the chili cheese dogs. This might have been an error but it seems to be part of their attitude. They don't bring the food to you and they expect you to clean the tables but they still ask for a 20% tip upon check out. Also, they charge about a $1 more each for the two other items that we ordered than what was listed on the menu. The food was fine just frustrated for basically overcharging for each item we ordered. Place was not busy on a Sunday at lunch time. Second time and probably last time to visit this place.
google avatar

Desire R.

Yelp
This spot is the place to good for a good genuine Chicago dog! They do not skimp on the toppings. They even offer vegan options for those that don't eat meat. They also have amazing burgers! This time I decided I'd try their signature Chicago dog with some of their delicious home made fries. I love the seating outdoors it's a very cute spot to come and enjoy a hot dog and then walk right next door for ice cream!
google avatar

hailey b.

Yelp
Sometimes I crave their Chicago style hot dog. It's just so good. And the fries- also fantastic. They really know how to dress a dog, my only complaint is the price- one hotdog won't fill me up so I get two, but spending $13 on just hotdog feels wrong :(
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Visited 10/31/19 The owner, Dan Polovin, has been in the hot dog game for 41 years so you know he's been doing things right... MLS produces a mighty fine Chicago dog, Dan takes great pride in the product he puts out. Vienna dogs witha natural casing are my favorite hotdogs, they have surpassed my all time favorite, Nathan's, because they have less sodium in them. Unfortunately although a lot of hot dog joints in Denver sell Viennas they don't sell natural casing Viennas. In New Jersey finding a place that sell Viennas is like hens teeth, the only place that I know of in South Jersey is Mr. Bill's in Winslow Township.

Brian L.

Yelp
Food is really good. Employees are clueless. To the degree that I will definitely not be returning to this location.

Trinity S.

Yelp
High expectations because it's a cute place. The service was great. The food was not worth it at all. Going to culver's
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Just adding my 2 cents. 5 stars because it is what it is. And what it is is a dog house like I grew up with in Chicago. Not all just sport pepper red hots. Italian beef, sausage, giardiniera, fries, meatballs. Certainly, nothing fancy. Just straight up meats, meats, and just enough "veggies" to stave off the inevitable infarction. If you like their ilk, this is for you. Relatively, cheap good eats with a DU price-tag. If I only had one beef with the place it would be the bread. Ha! The issue with garbage bread is not unique to Mustard's. It's a dearth of good bread anywhere west of the Mighty Miss. Just particularly, noticeable here.

Maybe M.

Yelp
Beans are not chili, still good tho, just fair warning. While I enjoyed the hot dog a more meaty and hearty chili as opposed to a more lentil based chili would've been preferred. Though I enjoyed the lentils, my expectations were not met and thus I'm forced into this position of giving a 3 star review, you deserve better Mustard's, but you let me down and that's something I can't forgive.
google avatar

Phillip K.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. I'm going to personally rename this place Mustards last disappointment. I had the chilly dog with fries. Casing on the hot dog was of poor quality. Good quality casing has a snap to it when you bite into the hot dog. I had to wrestle the hot dog out of the bun into my mouth. The bread was falling apart after my first bite and the fries were mangy looking. My first and last time here.
google avatar

Tacos T.

Yelp
This place had everything you need in a Chicago dog joint. I prefer Cubs to White Sox, but that aside, they're playing the radio with hits from the 80's and 90's, gumball and chicklet machines, Chicago decor, and most of all, good dogs with Vienna stuff. The place just feels right on the inside - like you're in Chicago and it's 1987 all of a sudden. Surely John Hughes would approve. In a way, it's representative of what's been lost with the new breed of restaurants and how everything feels so contrived now. This place is more than just a hot dog stand - it's the type of institution that's becoming more and more rare as is worth preserving. After I ate my dogs "dragged through the garden" I just sat and enjoyed looking around. Even clientele seems like a throwback.
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
We have been here a few times and it's been pretty good every time. My husband loves a good hotdog, so we love to come back here. They have a pretty classic menu and are still doing well to serve the community during the pandemic in a safe way. Only one party at a time is allowed to order and with much distance. I would love to see more variety in hotdogs, with more options. Also, the last time we were there, part of the order was missing and we didn't realize it until we returned home. They were kind enough to offer us a hotdog the next time we dine there. We will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Melanie A.

Yelp
Definitely a must-visit burger and hot dog joint in Denver!! I was thrilled to find a burger place that can safely accommodate celiac disease with proper handling procedures, gluten free buns, and a dedicated fryer. The burger itself was juicy and delicious and the cheese was perfectly melted. All of my food came out piping hot and fresh. They have the best Udi's bun preparation I've found - something about warming it up in advance made it tolerable, even though in typical Udi's fashion the bun crumbled quickly. Can't fault the restaurant for trying to go local. The fries were crunchy and flavorful. Loved it!
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
I feel like you can't go wrong with any selection. It's such a good vibe to be able to sit out with this food. Of course dogs allowed outside. We stopped here after a long walk. To order tha space is quite small though

Lauren D.

Yelp
We have eaten at Mustard's by DU for many years. The rest of my family enjoys burgers and fries, so always order that. My go-to has been the tuna steak sandwich - delicious. We stopped there the other night and although the tuna steak was still posted on the menu, I was told that they no longer serve it. I needed a quick substitute, so ordered the smoked German bratwurst. It came out late (some problem in the kitchen) and was really dried out. Not likely to go back, too bad.
google avatar

Yelp
The last time I had MLS was 20 years ago. It's even better than I remember it being and I was a picky child who LOVED this place 20 years ago. In the awful time of covid I have to say I'm BEYOND impressed with their customer service AND quality of food. I did an online order for pick up and was immediately called after placing my order just to confirm with me and go over safe practices upon my arrival. Insanely high quality of customer service from an online order. Very impressed with the above and beyond attitude of this business. Oh God, and the food. I got chili fries and they were so delicious and crispy and not at all soft and soggy. There was SO MUCH delicious obviously homemade chili smothering these beautiful little potato nuggets of goodness. I'm so impressed. I def. Ate in the parking lot and gorged myself Bc of how yummy. I got a veggie dog which I overloaded with extras under the assumption it was going to be small and boring. Well to my shock and surprise it was not at all. So my dog came with SO MUCH EXTRA FOOD ON IT I had to use a fork. My only complaint with this take out is that I didn't tip more on my order. This place is incredible and such a value and delicious.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
I hate to admit it, but I've been cheating on my usual hot dog place with Mustard's. I'm completely hooked. They make a great dog. I usually just get the traditional Chicago dog and its fantastic. Honey has been getting the german brat and he's completely in love with it. They have a large menu with lots of different options, sandwiches, burgers, and perfectly crispy fries. The fries are always made fresh to order. Check em out, you can't go wrong! They have a parking lot on the side of the building that is usually always full, but hey you never know when you might get lucky and snag a spot.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I stopped into Mustard's Last Stand on a trip to Denver to continue my hot dog odyssey. I had seen this place listed as one of the top hot dogs in Denver so, obviously, I had to swing by. Great location near DU and I can certainly appreciate the dive-ish atmosphere. The gentleman who took my order was very friendly. I settled on a chili cheese dog and fries. So I'll admit that I'm partial to Southern Hot Dog chili (aka Chili sauce) that has no beans. However, I liked this chili. The issue was there was SOOOO much of it. I had to eat the hot dog with a fork and a knife because the bun started to completely fall apart when I tried to pick it up. You couldn't taste the hot dog, or the cheese, or the bun. Just chili. The fries were nice and crispy and well-seasoned. I would definitely return to Mustard's cause it seems like a great joint. I just won't get a dog with chili next time.
google avatar

Troy S.

Yelp
Freaking great place for the kids on a sunny Saturday afternoon after baseball! Delicious dogs and Polish. Sweet that they have a real kids menu and you can't beat outdoor seating. Great friendly staff, thanks guys we will be back!
google avatar

Carolina H.

Yelp
Customer service was great...but the food was not. We got a corn dog and the Chicago dog and they were both pretty basic. The corn dog was not crispy at all and the hotdog had mediocre flavor. The only thing we liked was their fries.
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
Just hoping the message will be read. The burgers are over cooked every time. Tell the person on the grill to stop killing the meat. I've been a fan for years so I hate calling you out.
google avatar

Kelley B.

Yelp
We were dying for a hot dog after Billy's downtown, this place was the closest, my friend orders before me and goes to pay, meanwhile sticks money in the tip jar without anyone seeing and they say would u like to leave a tip? She says no thanks, he said , oh ok we still appreciate your business??? Are we forced to tip anyway after we showed up and picked it up? Why can't I fill out my own receipt. If u can take my card at the front door I can fill out my own receipt. Beside are we tipping cashiers now just for taking my order? What has this world come to that we have to, tips are earned not given. And they forgot my onions. And the hot dog wasn't all I hoped I would of rather had hamburger stand if I knew this. Man and after Billy's downtown I should of drove there .
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
This place was extremely busy but due to covid they business has to take special precaution for our safety! I loved my Italian beef sandwich it was really good for sure. I wish I would have gotten a hot dog though because the sandwich was so filling I literally took a nap as soon as I got back to my room.

Robert T.

Yelp
In my mind, the best of the best. I have bought hot dogs from Mu7stards since the early 80's, and htey are always consistent and ghreat. I've watched the owners grow from kids to their current age, and I can say that they are "Timeless"!

Bryan L.

Yelp
Best place in Denver for a taste of Sweet Home Chicago!! Best Italian Beef in the Mile High City!!
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Killer Chicago Dog in the Mile High City! This place is so cozy comfort food chic - worn tables, smells of various fried foods, tattered vintage posters strewn across the walls. I literally felt a huge hug as I walked in from a long lost uncle. Looks like the premier item on the menu is their Chicago Dog which has all the Chicago Dog fixings! Don't forget to order a order of large fries, such a greasy treat!!

R J.

Yelp
We would go here all the time, 10 years ago, but today it sucked! Room temperature hot dog, burnt fries, filthy dirty place! Very overpriced, people working g there, looked homeless! Won't be going back!
google avatar

Craig G.

Yelp
Oh hell yeah! I've passed here many times with work comrades. Today we were in the area on an appointment. So we popped in. Plus-take AMEX so I can buy my peeps lunch! Plus-giardinaria. pickled veggies in olive oil. Original Plus-neon green relish! Harry Carey would say Holy cow! Pus-sport peppers and celery salt! Authentic! Plus-authentic Vienna franks. Snappy casing and all. Plus -poppyseed bun! Adding up to a very good original Chicago style hotdogs and Italian beef Sami. Minus- limited dining spots indoors Minus- parking lot shared with strip mall Other than that, any of my hommies from Chi-town would recognize that this is a legit Chicago dog and Italian beef place. Don't get huffy now, they do have other stuff for the folks not blessed to have come from the Windy City. Chili dogs for you New Yawk-ers aka Coney Islanders Burgers brats etc. I can't comment as I only go for the Chicago oriented fare. The bath rooms are clean, the staff quick to take and fill orders. A great casual place to eat fairly cheep right the Ron the main drag. Hey hey holy mackerel! Chicago dogs in Denver!
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
Woah buddy, holy moly, yes. This place SLAMMED. I got the veggie dog with veggie chili, mustard, onion, and relish. Hot-diggity-dawg! And ze fries *kisses fingers*. Would definitely come back and recommend.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
It's hotdogs and burgers and sandwiches and fries. If you're looking for something fancy, go make your own food. It may be slightly over priced, but it's most popular when the weather is nice. They have to make enough money when the weather is nice to keep the rent and workers paid year round. I had a chili cheese dog and it fulfilled my hopes and dreams and then some. I also had their fries, which could've used salt, but we added it ourselves. Simple and to the point. I'll be coming back!
google avatar

Bridget M.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Being from Chicago, I really love their Chicago dog. It's on point! And they're doing a great job with their COVID restrictions. Support your local small businesses and EAT HERE!
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
This place has been consistently awesome for years! A cute divey hot dog place with delicious dogs and fries. They have burgers too, but I haven't had one. I imagine if the other food is any indication, they are great too. Decently priced as well!
