Muthu Banana Leaf Restaurant

One of my favorites !! I seek this place out every time I come to Penang and get the banana leaf rice sets. Flavors are perfectly balanced and my mouth waters when I think about all the different flavors. Service is prompt and prices are reasonable.

We came all the way from KL… we really wanted to taste banana leaf meal. Our cravings was satisfied here. We came around 3pm and still had so many variety of side dish items… banana leaf meal was very satisfying…the rasam is really very delicious… we had crab curry to go with the rice. Side dishes we tried salted fish curry, lemon chicken, mutton intestine and curry fish piece…after meal, we even had coffee and tea. We will definitely come again and suggest this restaurant.

Food was good atvavreasonably pocket friendly price. You can get south indian food like dosa, utappham etc. Opens from 7:39-9:30. But accepts card payment till afternoon only. When we visited there is no air conditioning. They have options for vegetarians as well.

Proper banana leaf spread with plenty of variety. Everything was hearty and satisfying, but the rasam really stood out — light, comforting, and hit the spot.

The food was fantastic. Experience different culture . Recommend their ketam curry if you can handle spicy. The boss was very nice and friendly. Very approachable to customers

Food was tasty and 1st time i m going, parking is challenging but all of the restaurant are walking distance..

This was the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. Even a simple Chicken 65 was served cold and completely tasteless. I was misled by the positive reviews posted earlier. One of the highlights they brag about, the spicy crab curry, was equally bland and disappointing.

The best varuval chicken I ever had in my life! The spiciest yet aroma flavor really stick on your tongue. Thanks again will come back again. Service also good. The stalwart owner will smile to u ;)

Only four words are necessary: FREE CRAB CURRY BUCKET but I suppose I'll elaborate. I'm getting better at knowing the protocol at banana leaf restaurants, but there are always intricacies. Here, as most places in friendly Malaysia, there was a helpful local at the next table ready to guide us (and hang out and chat for the remainder of the meal). The base was a yellow lentil dal, black eyed pea curry, pappadam, hot green sauce, and rice, and the rest a la carte. We added some fried fish, goat curry, snake gourd, and potato. Delicious and filling, with generous amounts ladled from the bucket of crab curry, which is just one of many buckets of free table curry, but the only one I have eyes for.

Can for lunch and service was prompt. They put a banana leaf in front of you and start scooping 2 veggies items on the leaf along with a mint sauce and crispy papadum. A server comes by with small trays of mains like fish and chicken for you to select. The rice was in a small bowl. Condiments were placed in front of us to select. All decent and enjoyable. At the time of paying my bill in cash, I gave 100MYR but the cashier kept asking for smaller bills/coins. In the most the mist of back and froth, I was jipped 50MYR. I didn't notice till I left the restaurant which was too late for me to go back. A fair warming for others to check your change.
