I've been bored at home since I injured my knee playing basketball--just trying to staying off my feet. Since my knee has been feeling a little bit better, I thought I would check out our local "museum." So I pulled on my knee brace and I'm off to get my culture on.
Service - The counter guy was pretty nice, but it took him a bit to try to verify whether or not Bank of America Cardholders get in free.
Price - Free (Thanks Bank of America!!)
Other - There is 2 Hour free parking in the parking structure on Center Street Promenade and Anaheim Blvd.
What was seen:
The Building - I am going to use the word "museum" loosely. The "museum" is more like a changing exhibition area. The museum is nestled amongst pretty nice apartment buildings, shops, and restaurants. It is composed of 2 buildings--a stand-alone near Anaheim Blvd and a exhibit on the ground floor of a apartment complex. Both are very modern looking buildings--very clean. Pretty cool if you live in any of the apartment complexes.
The Grounds - The grounds is filled with well manicured vegetation and trees--especially the oversized potted plants. There are a lot of concrete seating areas and several beautiful water features. Urban serenity.
Frogs, A Chorus of Colors - is located on the ground floor of Carnagie Apartments. As you walk in, you will be walking into the Chimeny Foyer. Frogs runs from February 12 to September 5, 2010. The exhibit itself is dimly lit. Each of the frog species exhibit are in nicely lit aquarium observation areas with all educational information next to the aquarium. This nicely highlights each aquarium station for each species. The exhibit shows a range of small to large frogs and also variety of colors of frogs. My favorite exhibits were the Waxy Monkey Frog, Ornate Horned Frog, and Dart Poison Frog. The Waxy Monkey Frog really look like they were made with green and white Play Doh and they were just chilling on a tree branch like they were inebriated. The Ornate Horned Frog was cool because it basically camouflages itself in its surroundings. The Dart Poison Frogs were nice and colorful--these frogs were used to create poison arrows.
State of the Blues, The Living Legend of the Delta, Photographs by Jeff Dunas - is located in the stand alone building near Anaheim Blvd--is on the ground floor and second floor. State of the Blues will run from January 9 to August 15, 2010. This exhibit showed portraits of the pioneers (legends) of Blues music--as well as candid pictures of places that influenced Blues music. I am not familiar with all the legends, but the familiar ones I knew were there--Ike Turner, James Brown, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Etta James, and John Lee Hooker. All the portraits and other pictures were beautifully photographed. You can really see the character in each portrait.
Anaheim, A Walk Through Local History - is located on the second floor of the stand alone building near Anaheim Blvd. This exhibit is the history of Anaheim--war, vineyards, orange fields, Disneyland, and sports franchises. Did yu know that at one time, Anaheim was famous for producing European-quality wines. However, Pierce's diseased killed majority of the vines. So we grew oranges instead--not as cool.
I think Muzeo was definitely a cool experience. You cannot go wrong with seeing different varieties of live frogs, photographs, and getting a little history lesson in one shot. Just be warned that you will not spend countless hours at Muzeo--this "museum" is not that large (probably 1 hour max). 5 stars for coolness and learning. Oh, shout out to Bank of America for the free experience.
