Montreal’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Montreal

"Whether or not it’s actually the MVP among Montreal’s sports bars is up for debate, but this Latin Quarter bar is certainly committed to screening a whole lot of ball-throwing and puck-smacking activities in its two-level space, where it serves Boréale beer and the standard wings and nachos." - Eater Staff

This was my first time visiting Montreal, and this sports bar was the first restaurant (bar) I visited after arriving in Montreal. The service here is friendly, and the bar space is ample and comfortable. The sports jerseys decorating the walls are a nice touch.I particularly enjoyed the pulled pork poutine at this bar. The gravy and pulled pork complement each other perfectly, combined with cheese curds and the fries, it creates a rich and satisfying flavor profile. The pitchers of beer are reasonably priced. Also worth mentioning, their chicken tenders are delicious too! I'll definitely be returning next time I visit Montreal.

If you're heading to MVP and hoping for a great night out, do yourself a favor and sit in Emma’s section. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel like VIPs. She managed a packed bar with total grace, never once seeming flustered, always delivering with a smile and genuine charm. It’s rare to find someone who blends professionalism, personality, and hustle so effortlessly. Emma turned a regular night out into a standout experience. Emma is the real MVP.

Google
What a great lunch experience with Tina taking care of us for my daughter’s birthday lunch! She was a perfect host and server. She even brought out the most delicious fudge cake without an ask! Will definitely return.

Google
Beers were poor for my taste but great bar for watching sports and a nice atmosphere. Staff were great

Jonathan Graham

Google
Great place to watch Premier League football. Good beer selection on tap and the menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend

Google
We were a party of 6 without advance booking, but we were accommodated and we had a pleasant dining experience at this restaurant. It's a sports bar so it's a little louder so be warned 😊 The foods got to our table at a very reasonable wait time, they are piping hot and the foods all tasted delicious. The server, whom we failed to get his name, was very animated, very jolly and personable. Props to him 👏

Google
Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Very cool atmosphere. Our food was amazing. We had a club sandwich and fries and a Cobb salad with onion rings. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
i like this bar for its NO FRILLS approach bathrooms : upstairs are a real mess tho but great for a quick drink

Yelp
Came here in search of the cowboys game in Montreal and was surprised to find this great sports bar. Only negative was it was filed with eagles fans unfortunately lol, but besides that was a great bar with plenty of food options, they make some great wings and the side of fries is like a whole meal by itself. You definitely get your moneys worth and they have plenty of TVs for all of your sorts needs
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
A great sports bar. The food is great! All sorts of choices! There are plenty of TVs and staff is very accommodating. Beware of a full MVP Bar Sportif if there is a Stanley Cup or NBA Final game on TV. The place gets packed!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by my evening here. A few friends and I came for dinner as it was close to a venue for a show we were seeing later. Th ereviews weren't great, but we just wanted a casual place with cold drinks and an OK menu. I arrive first and got a table for the four of us. The host placed the menus on the table, facing each chair and with the drinks side up on each of them. Just a small detail, but made an impression. The server was at the table almost immediately to take my drink order while I waited for my group who arrived a few minutes later, but I already had my beer, it was quick service. We ordered fish and chips (great portion of fish, nice batter, good fries), club sandwich (just what you would want, excellent amount of chicken, not too much or too little), ribs and grilled veggies (fall of the bone), and nachos with chicken (HUGE plate, easily a sharing dish or main, and homemade guac) Server was attentive the rest of the evening, a few drinks more, made good recommendations on the wine available for my friend, brought the bill promptly when asked. A great experience! (One note though, server me a white beer with a slice of lime, which is all wrong as it should be orange. But won't deduct points for it)

Yelp
Coming to Montreal in February plan on going to my favorite bar MVP Sportif drinks and food are awesome but having employees like Emma put this place over the top her smile and professional work ethic makes me wish I had employees like her

Yelp
This was the first place I ate at when I first landed to Montréal Québec. I had poutine a cider. I really liked the poutine and the cider was very crisp and was a great drink for this hot summer day. The poutine was filling and it being my first time ever trying poutine, I can say I was satisfied. Customer Service was great! Everyone was so nice and were very attentive to my needs and wants. They have a huge selection of beer or alcoholic beverages in general. I for one, would definitely recommend this sports bar & grill.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Best sports bar in Montreal, especially to watch American football.. good solid menu and staff is great!! They will put whatever game you want on and plenty of TV's.

Allen W.

Yelp
This was the worst experience ever. Severely understaffed. Politely asked to have game put on and was continually blown off. Then was asked to move tables." Which was fine but it was the only attention given to me. Would NOT recommend. I never do Yelp reviews but this was so off putting I had to.

Beatrix B.

Yelp
Went with my husband to this bar to grab a beer and watch a game. We ordered BBQ wings; the waiter didn't write our order and brought spicy wings. We told him about the mistake and he seemed surprised--as if we were the ones mistaken. He didn't apologize, but went ahead to take our wings order back. We told him it wasn't necessary, that a side of BBQ sauce would be enough. Then, the waiter went on to tell us that he couldn't bring a side of BBQ sauce without charging us for it(!)--when it was clearly the waiter's mistake. That's the definition of poor customer service. Not returning to this bar!
google avatar

Haley G.

Yelp
We loved the bartender here (Alex!), she was so fun and had great recommendations and in general made our visit so much fun we came back after our concert! This is such a classic sports bar vibe, but with better drink options and great company
google avatar

Jon A.

Yelp
Came here for Sunday afternoon football NFL games. Service was A+ Frozen Margaritas were on point! Food was also excellent.

Sophie B.

Yelp
There was no happy hour menu which would have deterred us had we known. But we were already seated. A couple of tables occupied outside and a couple inside that's it. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Didn't see anyone eating. But we had a fine time and they make fairly decent caesars.
google avatar

Jaime A.

Yelp
Frigging amazing food amazing service. The male server was soooooo good!! What a server is suppose to be full of knowledge, specials, timed everything perfectly. Free popcorn which was so yummy!!!! Really good specials. We left stuffed to the brim!! Will be back for sure
google avatar

Cella B.

Yelp
Ordered the club chicken sandwich which was very dry. No cheese or any sort of condiments inside so basically toasted bread and dry chicken and bacon. My husband had the BBQ bourbon burger which was also quite bland even though it comes with BBQ sauce. It also comes with caramelized onions which are ridiculously huge....too much onion for the size of the actual burger. Patty was fast cooked so it was pushed against the hot plate, drying it out. As for the beer (Stella) it was cool and slightly fuzzy but absolutely no head. Head is vital to a smooth sip. Do not recommend unless you want booze and sports.
google avatar

Aaron Z.

Yelp
Hands down worst burger I've had in my 36 years on this earth. Burger patties were dry, cold, and completely flavorless. Clearly they were bought in bulk and kept frozen for months before cooking. Plus the thin later of cheese added zero flavor. Gross. Unacceptable in the United States. Go to McDonalds for a burger instead. I hope MVP reassesses and rather than two flimsy patties, they go with one thicker patty of fresh ground meat w/spices and juice. Paging Jon Taffer and Gordon Ramsey. I enjoyed the beers though.

Yelp
A busy restaurant bAr located near berri. A great place if you want to watch some big sporting event. Notice that for big ufc events they do have a charge of like 10 bux a person, sometimes more. The food is pricey,i don't mind that because when you watch a hockey game or a fight, you tend to stay there for a while. It tasted bad though. Took. The pizza, it looked like a frozen pizza with added cheese on top. Their drinks have minimum amount of alcohol in it. The service was quite nice. I cannot recommend this place, go to 3 brasseurs or cage aux sports for better food. If you don't care about food, then i guess it's okay.
google avatar

Katherine H.

Yelp
Pretty good food. I had the vegetarian ALT which was a sandwich with avocado, lettuce, tomato and salsa. I would probably not get it again as it was pretty boring for the price. The avocado were also not sliced so I just got huge bites or just avocado. The salad and fries on the other hand, were very good!

Yelp
The place is well decorated on the inside and we were seated in these comfortable leather chairs with plenty of space around us. There were plenty of televisions showing different types of sports although you couldn't hear any commentary as they also had a DJ who was playing music. The service was phenomenal. There was an older gentleman who was one of the friendliest waiters (not sure if he was actually the owner?) Either way, he was extremely kind and attentive. He switched the channel for us when we requested and he came by our table often to top up our water and ask us if we needed anything or if we wanted to hear a particular song. Drinks were relatively cheap but they didn't have a huge selection, so that was a little disappointing. I also have mixed feelings about the food. We shared a plate of bruschetta and it was probably one of the best I've had to date. They were extremely generous with the amount of toppings that were placed on the bread which I appreciated. My boyfriend ordered the seafood linguine and it was delicious. However, I ordered a vegetarian pizza and it tasted like cardboard. It was probably one of the worst I've ever eaten and I regretted ordering it immensely. There was no flavour or seasoning whatsoever - it was horribly bland. I ate maybe a third of the pizza and then I couldn't do it anymore as it was far too disgusting to continue. I would probably go back again, but I would likely just stick to the appetizers and avoid the pizza at all costs.

Yelp
Sangria is too delicious Food was good especially the poutine Free popcorn is a bonus a Service was good and friendly TVs everywhere Go enjoy yourself
google avatar

Joe A.

Yelp
It would be a lot more enjoyable without the in house DJ playing corny stadium songs and shouting over the broadcast. Also, the poutine isn't very good.
google avatar

Tonya M.

Yelp
This bar is true to its name- multiple TVs with lots of sports- (curling, tennis, American football, hockey and soccer- while I was there). Pub food - wings, poutine, burgers and so on. We had the poutine it was pretty average/standard and a few cocktails- Moscow mules, martinis and gin and tonics. Many other had beer -- looked like they had pitcher specials. Service was ordinary. We were there during a very cold and snowy day I would like to see this place during a warmer time and with a big event.
google avatar

Cubby R.

Yelp
Club sandwich fries and free popcorn great, service great too. BUT, for the server to tell us management requires her to charge a dollar for a to go box is ridiculous she said it was the new law. During our dining in Montreal the whole week no one charged any fees for a to go box. Why would management or an owner lie to their customers just to make a buck?? I felt like it was Sarah Huckabee Sanders talking to us lying to us like she does to the American public on the daily news briefing.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped into MVP one night for a few drinks before heading to dinner. There is a bar in the middle of the place with tables, big and small, around it. They serve typical food similar to an Applebees or Fridays type place here in the States. Drink menu was extensive with many Canadian and import beers on tap. Mixed drinks were priced well but the timid waiter did not know how to make certain things and the barmaid was constantly walking around talking to her friends who were eating at a table. Every night there are specials and Thursday happened to be 5 for 5 on shots (found this out when I asked for the check and instead he brought 5 shots of Jack). Check and Jack aren't even that similiar. Around the corner from Station Sainte-Laurent.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
What's great: MVP is always showing "the game" -- sometimes more than one, upstairs vs downstairs. When the Montreal Alouettes were playing in the Grey Cup in 2010, this was the only bar we could find that was playing the game (in Montreal!!!!). In 2014 for the Superbowl, this was not the only bar playing the game, but it did have seats available in front of the big screen at kickoff time when we were running around downtown trying to find a place that still had space. Bonus points because they were showing the American TV feed with the famous American Superbowl commercials. What's good: Game-night specials included a $6 burger with fries and $5 pints of Boreale blonde. What's not-so-hot: The food. MVP is officially a restaurant so their liquour license requires that you order food. My wings were scrawny bits of chicken served with sauce on the side. Fries are like Burger King. This is not a place you would choose for the grub, but we were just glad to find a good place to watch the game.

Lindsay F.

Yelp
This place was horrible. Sat down to have a drink with three others- ordered a pitcher of sangria. The waitress's we had took almost 25 minutes to bring us it, and then immediately gave us the check. Assuming we weren't going to pay (Probably since we are from America). Once she made us pay- the girl who was with me and paying for it gave her a 10% tip for our very rushed and horrible service. The waitress complained to her manager who then walked over and told us that he gets in "America we don't tip as well as they do here". Never have I ever been treated so poorly in any sort of setting. Whether it be a fast food joint or fancy restaurant- this service was terrible. If you are looking for something to do- keep walking down the street. There's so much more to do and so much better to do to in this wonderful city.
google avatar

Antonio P.

Yelp
This place is a disappointment and not worth it at all! It took almost and hour for a burger which showed up and was ice cold and the kitchen forgot my cheese, what can't you read?!. Server took it back and returned 20 min later with another burger that was a bit warmer and they didn't even give me fresh fries so they were cold too. SAVE YOUR MONEY. NOT WORTH IT!
google avatar

Lindsay T.

Yelp
This is the only bar we could find in the city with NFL Sunday ticket! We called others that would promise to play the game but would arrive for them to tell us it wasn't in their line-up for the day. Highly recommend if you are wanting to find a place on a Sunday to watch your team (or all the teams). They had over 10 televisions.
google avatar

Moira R.

Yelp
I really didn't find anything special about this place. The drinks were okay. The pitcher of white sangria I ordered was extremely weak and tasted like Arbor Mist mixed with sprite and a little bit of grenadine. I suppose for a $20 large pitcher you can't expect much. Its just strange that I drank 1/2 of it and felt like I hadn't had anything to drink. The service was very good. They were good about keeping track of who ordered what and were patient with our large party. This was a good place to hang out with a fairly large group of people for drinks.

Liza W.

Yelp
Not a good sports bar. Very unorganized and usually dead, no one to watch the games with :(
google avatar

Connor J.

Yelp
In one word; Average. Burgers and fries were not bad, but lacked any flavour. Prices aren't bad. But again could be better. Thankfully the waitress we had for the night was very pleasant and that gained this restaurant enough in my books to make it acceptable. Decent atmosphere and lots of tvs to get In to watch the game helps as well. If you are looking for an sports bar to get a few drinks and watch a game, decent choice, but I'd stay away if your focus is going to be the food.
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
This was our first stop once we were in Montreal. Great location. Medium-sized place with lots of TV's and floor to ceiling windows. Very friendly customer service and our food came out very quickly (we were here mid-afternoon so there were only 3 other tables). I had the Cheddar Cheese Burger which was on for $9.99 because it was the friday special. The fries were a little greasy, but the burger was good.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
This place has so much potential but fcuks it up by: Hiring people who aren't into sports. Seriously? Not supporting the country's national pastime by investing in the hockey package or knowing what channels hockey is on. Less than 7 days in the country and I knew more about canadian tv than the people working here. I noticed that a number of patrons were acting up with the staff. While we didn't as guests in the country, I can understand the locals being annoyed with the staff. These 2 things are unacceptable for a "sports" bar in Canada. With that being said, the food was delicious which is worth a star. Only problem was I came her primarily to watch a hockey game (Senators) and they couldn't find it. I had to go to the hotel and watch it.
google avatar

Hammer N.

Yelp
It's funny that so many people are commenting on the food here. This is a place to drink beer and watch sports and its good for doing both of those. Why would you expect anything else? They fill you're glass when it's empty and are friendly. The prices are reasonable and the selection is adequate. Only drawback is that the bar is small relative to the size of the space and can get cramped.

D W.

Yelp
For starters this is my first time in 26 years of my life I'm leaving a comment about someone's restaurant/Bar but why are your appetizers as the waitress said lol extremely terrible?.! But any way there was no one inside when I ordered and my wings were Trash and fried in dirty grease. Like I understand this is not a place to grab a dinner type meal but wings come on people. Won't step foot in there again sorry but not sorry, if your serving food at least be 7/10, not 1/10.
google avatar

Lonny E.

Yelp
Good sports bar, lots and f room and tvs. Good salads, however chicken wings were tiny and tasted like microwave cooking. Avoid them. Other than that, service was excellent, all and all a very pleasant spot.
google avatar

Steffeny M.

Yelp
This bar was great for the first couple hours. We walked in and were warmly welcomed and seated right away. We wanted to watch the oilers game and the staff went out of their way to find it for us. I believe even the manager or owner came over to check on us. Music was great, lots of tvs to watch sports, waitress was attentive and prices are pretty decent. I noticed the manager/owner had left the bar and this is when everything changed. At about 10, the music got turned up and instead of random pop and rock songs, this house rap music was put on. It was so loud we could barely speak to each other. We chugged the rest of beers as we couldn't get out of their fast enough. I also noticed this one guy going in and out of the place constantly which made me thing something suspicious was going on. I don't live in Montreal, but I wouldn't come back here past 10pm on any given night.
google avatar

Rebecka K.

Yelp
We ordered the burgers and they weren't even homemade. It was like chewing at an old shoe. Beer was good though, but poor service. And the music was so loud so you couldn't focus on the games.
google avatar

Elly-Ane L.

Yelp
I like big fancy restaurants but i go to Mvp at least once a week, i tried everything on the menu it is so cheap and soooo good! Best service from the waiter, he is so fast and knows what i like and takes care of me. I recommend the quesadillas, the poutine, the thai salad, the chicken wings, pizzas are good, and my favorite is that great plate of shrimps and rice!! Delicious... Oh and dont forget to try the salmon and rice, really good to.

Scott S.

Yelp
Sat down for football Sunday and was greeted friendly. Instantly apologized they did not have the Dolphins game on but to my surprise the manager or shift supervisor spent his next 15-20 minutes bouncing between customers and finding the Dolphins game , unasked I might add. Staff was friendly and the ladies were easy on the eyes, Food was great and beer was cold. Would come again any day of the week.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Definitely a tourist spot with multiple locations over Montreal but I still had a good time. Any sport you want, they have it. Regular bar food combined with the local brewing favorites and good service makes this place alright in my book. We tried two locations and both had decent atmospheres. Yeah, there are better options but when your parading around with a group of 10-12, this place makes it easy.
google avatar

Jeni F.

Yelp
Loved this place! We were there when the city was extra crowded, and they always had a table open. Fast and friendly service! Great wings.
google avatar

Joseph D. S.

Yelp
I stopped in here on a Sunday night. We were the only people eating, and there were only 2 people at the bar. They had a Sunday special: 20 wings for $10. The wings were great! They were not greasy, and the light flour breading was well-spiced. The sauce comes served on the side. I can't comment on any other food, but the service was attentive and friendly. They had multiple TVs showing the NHL all star game, ESPN News, the Winter X Games, and other events. I had a good experience overall.

Israel R.

Yelp
I had the worst customer service experience I've ever had here, after leaving a review commenting on their poor service the manager came up to my table, threatened me and said I had 10 seconds to delete it or he'd kick me out, I refused so he called security so they would remove me forcibly. Please do not give your money to this establishment when there are so many fantastic bars all over Montreal.
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
Do not go to this bar to watch UFC. They will advertise it as the main attraction for the night, then not show the complete event. Very very poor. Go anywhere else. Do these people not know that UFC is actually popular?? I will never never return to this bar.

Patrick P.

Yelp
The waiter we had was a complete dick, the wings sucked and the atmosphere sucked. Way overpriced as well. Boring.

Phil K.

Yelp
So to start no Wi-Fi. However they advertise free Wi-Fi. We ordered food and waited for it for 45 minutes considering there were almost no people. Coke was flat and watered down. The person in charge of seating people down is very rood and disrespectful. The food was server seperatly and not in a timely fashion. All in all not a good place

Melanie D.

Yelp
AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!! I am From Ireland and my boyfriend, two friends of mine and myself headed to Montreal for New years. we headed into MVP on New Years Eve evening for dinner before we headed out for the night. I have to say, of all the places in the world that i have been and all the restaurants i have eaten at, i have never been so appaulled in all my life. We received our starters (potato skins) which were cold, but decided not to say anything with it been around the holiday season and all. Our main courses were nothing spectacular and we were not completely satisfied. the service was also not worth mentioning. The food didnt have me leaving the bar shaking with anger, it was the ignorant waitor who turned out to be the manager that did!! as we paid for our meal using a credit card i was told by the waitor, and i quote 'the standard rate of tip in Quebec is 15%, you leave a s**t tip'. after the waitor said this, he throw the receipt at my friends and myself and stormed off. completely stunned by this, i approached the waitor and asked to speak to the manager, when he told me he was the manager. as i asked him what gives him the right to speak to people like that, he started mouthing off, while walking away from me. i explained to him that because i am not from quebec, nor from canada, we didnt know the rate of tipping there and that they should advertise it in the restaurant if they feel so strongly about it and that also, tipping is at the customers discretion and based on the level of service you receive. The four of us left the restaurant in complete shock at what had happened and eve ruined our night for us all. i have no problem naming this manager as OPERATOR 221, as his name is not on our receipt, which we kept. I also plan on sending this letter to the owner of the bar and also the montreal tourist board. This 'manager' should be fired!!! simple as... Didnt want to give it any stars but had to!!! an absolute disgrace and it reflects badly on Montreal!!
