Find Los Angeles’s Crispiest Donkatsu at My Donkatsu in Koreatown | Eater LA

"Tucked into an unassuming Koreatown strip mall on Olympic Boulevard, I step into a family-run donkatsu shop where the scent of crispy fried pork fills a small room and white walls are covered in handwritten notes praising the umami of the unagi katsu and the molten interior of the cheese katsu. Opened in 2024 by Mr. and Mrs. Lim, who met working at a five-star hotel in Seoul (he the chef, she the server), it turns out some of Koreatown’s crispiest, most tender katsu in a cozy, quick-turnover space with a handful of tables and banquet-hall chairs. The menu centers on five katsu—chicken, pork loin, pork belly, unagi, and cheese—each served with salad, pickled cucumbers, seasoned greens, soup, rice, and house-made sauces. Blending Korean and Japanese styles, the chicken and pork are cut thick like tonkatsu with a versatile sauce that can be dipped or poured; chicken and pork loin come with a tangy beef-and-vegetable gravy brown sauce and an orange spicy mayo, unagi gets a special eel sauce, and pork belly and cheese pair with a mildly spicy, salsa verde–like green sauce that cuts the richness. Technique is the calling card: a batter mixed with fresh breadcrumbs keeps a light, craggy crust that clings to the meat, the chicken uses organic breast, the cheese is wrapped inside meat to preserve crunch, and Mr. Lim sources pork from neighborhood butchers each morning. According to their daughter, Soli, the classic pork and cheese are perennial favorites, pork belly is the current hit, chicken led at opening, and unagi sometimes sells out. Alongside the katsu are comforting bowls of udon, bibimbap, and flame-torched bulgogi, with udon lovers noting they can taste the flavor from the ingredients themselves. Service feels like a “Korean mom” embrace as Mrs. Lim hustles through 12-hour days, plates land piping hot so most guests finish in about 20 minutes to catch the crust at its peak; hours run Tuesday to Saturday 11:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m., and Sunday until 9 p.m." - Carly Kol

Cannot stress enough how much I LOVED this place. The personable and unique atmosphere of the shop, the kind and generous owners, and of course the delectable food. From the salad to the drinks to the soup to the side dishes to the tenderness and juiciness of the meat, even to the way the rice is cooked. Pure perfection. I even asked for more salad to go which the owner kindly gave to me for free despite me wanting to pay. Both sauces went well with the meat I ended up dipping both at the same time halfway through. I quite literally left no crumbs as even the fried flakes were good to me. Great texture and very affordable too, so I'd highly recommend to anyone in the area. There's a free parking lot in the plaza as well.

WOW!! This place seriously serves some of the best katsu I have ever had! We ordered the pork katsu and the cheese katsu and they were a perfect pairing to share if you have 2+ people. The outside of the katsu is perfectly crispy and the inside is tender. They serve the katsu with sauces and side dishes that compliment the katsu perfectly, including a unique jalapeño sauce that I’ve never had anywhere else before. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in the mood for great katsu!

OMG Why did I only find out about this place now?!! I’m a regular at Kagura in Torrence. And honestly, Donkatsu tastes almost identical in the best way. The pork belly katsu was incredible. And my friend's cheese Katsu was also really good. Side dishes are all savory. I can confidently say there’s no better pork cutlet in all of LA.

You can tell the food here was made with love. Tonkatsu was airy and crispy. Service was also exceptional. The lady who seated us made sure everyone felt welcomed. Highly recommend!

My husband is a huge Donkatsu (pork cutlet) lover, so we’ve tried a lot of places—and this is the best cheese Donkatsu we’ve had in ktown. The sides were clean and well-prepared, and the spicy green sauce added the perfect kick, cutting through the richness of the Donkatsu. Staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Parking is very limited, but it’s free, which is a plus! Highly recommend this spot if you’re into Donkatsu. We’ll definitely be back!

Super tender and juicy with amazing crispy outsides. Tried all 3, and each tasted great, but liked the normal one the best! Also got the veggie + shrimp pancake and it was delicious. And to top it off, attentive and great service!

IG/TT @eatwkris Mydonkatsu just opened in Koreatown la and they have the cheesiest and crispiest katsu in town. I can never resist the pork and cheese katsu and their batter is so light and crispy. Each plate is $16-$19 and the best part is they all come with salad, soup, rice and 2 sides of pickled veggies! If you don’t want something fried I recommend their bulgogi udon. It’s sweet, savory, and super filling.
