The 13 Best Underrated Bakeries in Los Angeles

"My Panecito is plotting an ambitious Southland expansion with four future locations in Santa Ana, Bell, Orange, and Placentia. At the store in Gardena, staffers prepare fresh pan dulce every 15 minutes, including traditional puerquitos and an Oreo-filled concha. The shop is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Mona Holmes

The place is clean, as soon as you step in, the smell of fresh bread hits your nose. Employees are helpful willing to answer any questions you might have. Good variety of conchas, I wanted to try the churro one, it was delicious. Cakes are also part of their menu. Overall great experience.

Google
As an upcoming business this place is cute and the people were nice. I give them credit for starting something new and interesting with the traditional Mexican breads. The Horchata pumpkin frappe was amazing. However the conchas and mostly everything is really just overpriced and over-hyped. The conchas ice cream sandwiches were okay, I would recommend the cookies and cream one more than the vanilla one. The regular conchas were good but a bit over dry. The bollios are 4 for a dollar at the store and are about the same quality here just more expensive. Small but simple menu. I would definitely try their cakes though.

Google
Today I went to the location in Placentia and I gotta say that I was not impressed with the conchas they were undercooked coming from a family of Mexican bakers the bread needs to rest more before baking so that the bread is soft and fluffy not dense the texture was not soft I do have to say the taste was ok I got the traditional chocolate and the masa pan we also got the vanilla latte which was good The service was not so good either the cashier was friendly but the bakers were not to happy and friendly I did like all the decorations with all the concha’s balloons and hearts 💕

Google
I would definitely give them a 4 it is a cute little place and I went with a friend who told be about it (she saw it on Tik Tok) so we were excited to see what all the rev was about. I brought some home for my husband and I to taste and my friend bought a LOT to take back to her family to taste so I am wondering what her thoughts are because she is probably more familiar with traditional Mexican bread and sweets. I am not a big fan of conchas in general so my opinion is probably not the best. I thought the Oreo concha was extremely sweet and did not taste like Oreos just a lot of sugar and cinnamon which is not a bad thing but was not what I expected. It did come to me warm and fresh. Everything smelt so good and everything is baked all the time. I also got a "New York" style cheese cake...it did not taste like a New York style cheese cake BUT it was good...I would start calling it "LA cheese cake" because it did have a twist of LA in there. It was not overwhelmingly sweet which I personally enjoy. Then they gave us each a free slice of peppermint cake which...(again) really did not taste like peppermint. It had rich cheesecake frosting (which I liked) shavings of white chocolate (again I liked) not to sweet (good because them conchas are insanely sweet LOL) and overall was a good piece of cake. I'd rename it the "Holiday" cake because it did have a piece of candy and the it was layered perfectly with holiday colors very pretty. (PRETTY) and THANK YOU. It Just did not taste like peppermint which actually probably is better because that could get to be too much. I had a decaf coffee GREAT! I can't have caffeine so I was happy. I only had them put milk in it because that's a lot of sugar SOOO if you are complaining about sugar it is a PAN Bakery PEOPLE COME ON just make sure your choices are good. The guy at the register was super nice he seemed new and that's okay because we are all new at something. The older female was kinda removed...not rude but not really friendly. Prices are fine went on a Saturday but not crowed at all. Parking is rough...I have a big truck so I had to park on the street. Still it is okay. I think this place has great potential for some improvements, nice neighborhood cafe & bakery, fresh, clean, CUTE, wonderful for the culture and the people. I will definitely be back because there is a huge variety plus gift bags (great for holiday parties) of pastries that I want to try for me and my friends.

Google
Wow today I was in Gardena and I stopped by to get some Mexican bread for my wife. I yelped this place and my Panecito showed up. amazing. They had so many different flavors. My favorite one was the Oreo and the apple was delicious. The service was great and everything was so pink I have to come back and get some more from my wife and kids

Google
Today I bought a tres leches cakes, however it was far from being a tres leches cake when it was dry and frozen. I couldn't even eat it. $38 for a tiny frozen cake definitely not worth it.

David Avalos

Google
Overpriced pan dulce. It's good, fresh and packaged nicely. But its up to you is you want to pay 65 cents or 2 dollars for a concha. Cakes looks really good but I haven't tried them yet. I had the guava pastry and the orchata expresso.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this place to anyone! I seen My Panecito from instagram and have been wanting to go for the longest. Once I finally got to go, it was way better than I expected! The conchas are so fresh and warm when you get them! They are all so good! My favorite is the strawberry krunch!
google avatar

Ghalya M.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in, you smell yumminess! Had ro control myself and not order everything in the menu. Bought the 18 pack and it was a hit with the family. So hard to pick a favorite flavor - they were all so fresh and good! Who doesn't like fancy conchas?! Coffee was much appreciated. Ordered the horchata latte. It was good but a tad sweet. Service was great. Fast, friendly, and efficient. The place is located in a strip mall. I was there early so parking was easy.

Yelp
Came here around 8:20pm and there was a line but the line moved pretty quickly. Got the strawberry krunch, Oreo cookie & cream, cinnamon roll, and vanilla concha. Plus slice of strawberry and tres leches cake. The concha lived up to it's hype. They were awesome delicious and not overly sweet. However pass on the slice cake because their slices are tiny and I mean tiny. They are literally little bigger than my apple watch, like WTH for nearly $5. It's a miss so I would recommend sticking to the sweet bread. (See Photos)

Yelp
First of all, I would like to congratulate the business owner. What a creative idea to copy crumble cookie with a concha! Presentation is what sells and you have the presentation. You all need to work on customer service. Tik Tok sells you to go visit your shop but the your employees are not friendly. The conchas are overpriced I get it you're trying to sell a product like crumble cookie. However, at least offer quality for price you are selling. Everything came off the moment I took a bite. The concha is NOT soft from the inside nor is the churo elote. We purchased enough to have to leftover for the next day and the bread got even harder. Crumble cookies are soft and that's what sells. Personally, it wasn't the worth the drive from Orange County to Gardena. Love the concept, idea and vibe but offer quality ingredients.

Yelp
Yes, you've seen them on Instagram or TikTok - go try them right now! They are even better than the hype. I have almost come here two or three times but it's nowhere near my side of town and I keep telling myself it's not worth that much time to drive out here. I was wrong! It is worth it. Come here now! I really wanted to try the churro concha - they also had an Apple pie today, so I got those two. They were so incredibly delicious. Warm fresh bread with a sweet crunchy topping. I sat and downed both of them in my car in about 3 minutes and then went back in to get the strawberry crumble also. It was just as good as the other two - I wish I had more room in my stomach to try other flavors! I have eaten an unholy amount of conchas in my life. I am the Duke of several panederias in NELA but they are just playing games compared to My Panecito. These are crazy, next level upgraded conchas. I'm already trying to figure out when I can make time to come back.

Yelp
Mexican Crumbl!!! Saw a video of this place on instagram and came here the next day. I also told my friend and she came an hour after I sent her photos. She bought a whole dozen! This place sells conchas at a very reasonable price. They're very tasty, warm, and packaged well. Their conchas are supposedly baked every 30 min(?). They have rotational flavors and I got the oreo one and the strawberry krunch conchas. I would like to try out their ice cream conchas next time! They also have a super large concha as well! Interior is pretty small, not a cafe or anything. Parking is also small. Store staffs were friendly as well. Highly recommended bakery. Hidden gem!

Yelp
The Conchas are delish soft and very sweet! The place is clean and cute! The coffee drink is ordered was not good. Definitely loved the churro concha

Yelp
I visited this place with my husband around 11 AM, excited to try their conchas and cake. We ordered a dozen conchas, a coffee, and tres leches cake, and asked the server for flavor recommendations since we were new. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The Oreo concha was overwhelmingly sweet, and the strawberry flavor tasted artificial. The only standout was the vanilla, which was nice and warm. The coffee was also too sweet, leaving me in a sugar coma. As for the tres leches cake, it didn't taste like traditional tres leches at all, which was a letdown. On top of that, the front lady was unwelcoming and didn't even offer bags for the conchas when I asked. Overall, I'm not sure what the hype is about--this visit didn't meet my expectations. On a positive note- it was a quite clean place.

Yelp
Great smiling service very good warm concha bread. Very friendly. Will definitely be back.. how can one resist not taking some for the road ??

Yelp
Great service. I stopped by again on a Monday morning, the day before Christmas Eve, around 8:00am. About 3 people in line ahead of me and there was available parking in the shared lot. I bought my regular vanilla, chocolate and marzipan. I tried the strawberry crunch and the Oreo too. All of them were delicious. Warm and moist. This is my favorite place for conchas now. Some might say they are not classic mexican breads. They're right. They're better. Mic drop!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
My Panecito is the equivalent to crumble. The bread flavors change weekly, the coffee is amazing. Hits perfect with your favorite concha. The service was great, everyone greeted us and were attentive to our needs. The ambiance was cute and loved the photo ops .... Perfect for your morning "Pan con cafe!"
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great spot in Gardena to treat yourself! Service was friendly, but definitely expect a bit of a wait during peak times because the word is out! They have a menu full of different flavors of deliciously decadent conchas. I got 4 for the family and they were soft, warm and delicious! They have a lot of beverage selections available as well as an assortment of other deserts as well.

Jackie M.

Yelp
My first time there. I felt very discriminated from the cashier, just because I didn't speak Spanish with him or maybe not petty enough. He had me waiting almost 30 min, for a ready made cake. The customer after me got 2 cakes, one needed to be decorated from the back. So I thought maybe mine too, NO. The cashier gave her the 2 cakes and ignored me. Another gentleman helped and he just grabbed the cake from the display and off I went. There's no name on the receipt, however I was there this morning at 10:25 am.

The best concha's ever. Super warm and fresh Has that cinnamon flavor to it. Tried it for the first time on new years ever was super impressed.

Yelp
Very clean, fresh! We ordered Tres Leches Slice and Caramel Apple Crumble Slice! So delicious! Also want point out that Yuri! Was very nice and helpful! She's an amazing person you can tell she loves her job and is a dedicated employee!!

Yelp
I really love trying new places inspired by cultures. I was super excited to try gourmet styles of pan dulce, or sweet bread. In Mexico, you can find panaderías and grab a cup of café de la olla. My panecito brings a twist to that and brings in different flavors. I have yet to try the crafted drinks but I did try the Oreo concha, Oreo gourmet cake, and the fruit tart. I really wanted to love it, but it was a bit lacking. The concha is good though needs milk or drink to help wash the sweetness. The Oreo cake was mostly frosting or crème filling rather than bread. It was small layer of chocolate cake. The fruit tart was good, the crust was good but the custard was too sweet. Overall, it may just be to sweet for my liking. The shop is small so if there is a line it's a little cramped, the menu is busy so try looking ahead of time!

Livier d.

Yelp
What is going on Jose I went to your location in Gardena yesterday and got 3 elotes and all of them where so hard. Before they just to be so soft . Did you change something because I don't like it.

Susan R.

Yelp
I saw this place on IG and had to check it out, There was a line which was expected, however the service was slow it took over 30 mins to get my items and it seemed they were running out of concha's, I assumed this was the reason they were only using one register. Once the fresh batches of concha's came out they opened up the 2nd register. The line formed outside, be ready to wait in line. I tried the strawberry krunch shake it was delicious definitely worth the wait 10/10, if you love strawberry shortcake like I do. The concha's were fresh coming out and soft, I tried the strawberry krunch, mazapan, and cinnamon roll. my favorite was the cinnamon roll it was a 10/10. I give the strawberry Krunch 8/10 it needs more strawberry shortcake flavor. My least favorite was the mazapan 7/10 it was too sweet. FYI concha's are messy to eat as one bite and the topping is crumbling off. My suggestion for best experience is to eat them fresh, and be ready to catch those crumbs. I tried a slice of the strawberry Krunch cake and it was a complete disappointment, it was not worth the purchase. It was plain, no flavor, just like eating plain white cake with color. It definitely needs to improve to have that strawberry shortcake flavor. Overall it's definitely worth a trip. Just be ready to wait in line, I went during the week around 7pm.

Yelp
Oh my gosh!! This place is truly changing the game with its creative twist on classic Mexican treats. Start your visit with a concha that's always served HOT -- yes, ALWAYS! And my other personal favorite is any one of their their epic shakes, like the Strawberry Krunch, which tastes just like those nostalgic ice cream bars from childhood!!! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked goods. Just one look at the shelves lined with colorful cakes in flavors like Mazapan, Churro, Oreo, and Birthday Cake, and you'll know you're in for a treat. Seriously... it's incredible!!! Whatever you end up ordering. Whether you're a die-hard pan dulce fan or just someone with a sweet tooth, My Panecito is a must-visit!
google avatar

Crystall B.

Yelp
The were the most amazing and fresh conchas ever! I love their flavor variations too. Everyone is so nice and the bakery always smells divine! I got the Oreo, vanilla, and confetti sprinkle and were equally delicious. I wanted the strwberyybahortcake bit they were sold out!!
google avatar

Vanessa C.

Yelp
Slow service they move in slow motion and took forever to take an order and the coffee was cold after having to ask for it several times, and it tasted horrible. I waited 25 minutes for a coffee and two pieces of bread which were already made. I only gave them one star because it wouldn't allow me to do zero.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but it fell short for me. I decided to go with a 4 pack and got the apple pie concha, cinnamon roll concha, strawberry krunch concha & guava strudel. I also ordered a hazelnut espresso drink with oat milk & extra hazelnut syrup. Out of the 5 items I ordered the only 1 that was really good was the guava strudel. I'd go back for that. As for all of the conchas, they had a very artificial taste to them which made it hard to enjoy them. I literally took 1 bite of each & that was about all I could stomach. I will say that the texture of the conchas is very nice, soft, fluffy & not at all dry like some conchas can be. If they could find a way to get rid of the artificial taste I'd definitely go back to try them again. Now for the biggest disappoint, the espresso! It had zero hazelnut flavor (which I paid extra for since I asked for extra syrup) & it tasted like there wasn't any coffee in it either. It tasted like straight watered down, steamed oat milk. Complete waste of money because it ended up down the drain.
google avatar

Letty M.

Yelp
Wow!! A must try!! The Mexican bread is freshly made daily and the tastes are on point. Their shakes are amazing. Their service is fast.
google avatar

Liliam M.

Yelp
My panecito is very cute! Adorable and very trendy. Will be back again when around & want something sweet. Staff was friendly and quick! However- Concha was almost like a stale consistency after just barely 90ish mins of being home. First bites were warm and sweetness from the top made it taste good. I went to finish it later and the parts with out any sweet topping were so plain and stale-like! Also 3 Stars because it was like a $10 difference for my order when ordering pick up vs going in person!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning with my family. This bakery serves some of the best concha's I've ever had! The store makes new conchas every 15 minutes so you always get a fresh batch. They have other desserts like cakes and milkshakes, but they just came out with a new concha ice cream sandwich!! You get to choose your concha and ice cream flavor, and then they heat press it. Super warm and crispy on the outside, creamy and cold on the inside. Super bomb!!! Definitely gotta check them out when you're in the area
google avatar

Bianka C.

Yelp
Panecito!! Love these cute and super delicious conchas! Had them at a family gathering and finally made it out and so glad I did! I ordered their horchata latte and it was so good, way above my expectations! We also ordered their strawberry, Oreo, churro and mazapán conchas and their churro elote! They all look and taste so good and you receive your bread warm! Service was very friendly, will be back!
google avatar

The B.

Yelp
10/10!! The Oreo concha is my favorite with the Oreo crumbs. They come out warm and I recommend eating them with a cold drink. The customer service is great as well in that they do a good job explaining the menu if you have any questions. They may be a bit pricey compared to a normal Mexican bakery but they are worth it if you are craving some conchas.

Enrique C.

Yelp
Great pan!! This is a must try if you're not diabetic lol, even if you are it's worth trying once or getting some for the family. I'm diabetic and I had to try them. Great quality and excellent service, reasonably priced.
google avatar

Jessy M.

Yelp
It was my first time trying this bakery out. I was very impressed. The customer service was excellent, the conchas were not only fresh, but they were some of the best-tasting conchas that I have ever eaten. This was such a great first experience, and I will definitely be returning soon!
google avatar

Janeth G.

Yelp
Heard so much about this place so we decided to try it out. Final thought, disappointed. Service was good, 1 cashier was helpful and answered questions. Variety of breads available ?... limited. Had to settle for something I didn't come here in the first place for. Creativity : 1 Fruit flies, or whatever type of Flies all over the place bumping into my face. Cashier kept fanning them off face. Bought some concha shakes , and breads. The shakes tasted extremely sweet. I get it's a dessert but you can only tolerate like make 4 sips before the sugar is overpowering. Here's the worst part, we get home to eat some panecito and guess what?! The bread was extremely undercooked. I first I thought maybe it's just a little mushy, I go to take a piece off the corner and it was super stretchy. I touch the stretchy dough, and it was super sticky. Yes definitely raw bread is what I was given. We were about to head back to return or exchange but to our luck, the place had already closed. Tried it, didn't have a good experience, won't be returning.
google avatar

Ellen V.

Yelp
It was our first time going there. Been wanting to try it but whenever we remember about the place, it was closed or closing soon. I tried the pink cookies and the pink concha with the pink crumbs. Was expecting it to be super sweet but it wasn't. That was a good thing to me. Sweet enough to want it, but not too sweet to not to want more, if that makes sense.
google avatar

Jesse M.

Yelp
I came for the first today for dessert after having lunch yesterday. I have seen their desserts at Loaded Cafe and on Instagram. I had ordered the Chocolate Fudge. They have drinks and custom Mexican Sweet Breads., Cheesecake s with a twist, I wasn't able to get a pic of the breads on display, because an instagramer was hoarding the space. The staff was super friendly and answered all of my questions. The owner was nice and pleasant. He will recommend for you to buy one of everything. lol they are baking all the day, so everything is very fresh. The Chocolate Fudge cake was delectable. The chocolate was very rich, the cake was moist. The cake was not too sweet. You definitely need a glass of milk to wash it down. The owners of Loaded Cafe also own this bakery. They have a larger selection here at the bakery. I recommend for to come down here if you want a verygood dessert or if you have a sweet tooth.
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
Not worth the price. This conchas are advertised as something new just like the Crumbl cookies with different flavors. At the end of the day. Every concha is a vanilla concha with powder on the top. It would be nicer if they were the actual flavor on the inside. Service was HORRIBLE. Waited 1 hour for just 14 people ahead of me. 1 barista, 1 cashier, 1 person doing the bakery and prepping. While the manager is just hanging around doing other stuff like putting boxes instead of helping the cashier with the orders. In average it took them 10 MINUTES to attend ONE SINGLE PERSON. Go if you want to try them, just be aware that at the end of the day they will taste like any other concha that you buy at the market. Not with for the $20 for a 6 pack of concha's.

Jocy R.

Yelp
I called to get info on their giant bolillo. I was told I had to go in person and pay it in full at least 24hrs in advance in order to GUARANTEE my order to be made! I sent someone to pay for it on thursday since I was gonna need it on a saturday. I dont live near by, but i made sure it got paid and got proof of the receipt to be sure. On Saturday when I get there after being ignored for about 5 min the cashier approaches me and I show my receipt. She said oh we dont have an order for a giant bolillo. I was like its literally here on the receipt... She goes on and checks and says with a low voice oh we forgot to make this order. She then walks to the back and then another lady comes and tells me that unfortunately they will not be able to fulfill my order but they would be happy to replace it with conchas. So i said no thats not what i ordered. So she offers to give me my money back. Then she said oh well the bolillo you order "broke" while cooking, I asked to see it and it was a tiny piece which I was ok with. So I said can I take that one its ok that its broken and she said no because we might get bad reviews since its not to our standards. I asked to talk to the manager and she said no. She finally got the phone spoke to someone and still said no. So I guess not fulfilling full paid orders is part of their standards. I asked for a proof receipt where it states that I would get my money back and at first they said no because I dint have the card that was used to pay. then it was switched to I dint have the receipt.. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE The pan dulce is ok, but I don't think it's worth having to go thru experiences like this. So if you ever order from this place make sure you call everyday a week prior to your order. Or who knows what EXUSE they will give you.
google avatar

Junior N.

Yelp
If the aroma of delicious pan dulce doesn't capture you, the warm concha's will. The warm soft pillowy sweet concha's are the best! They have a good assortment of pan dulce, pastels and other desserts including a delicious fruit tart. This is a great spot to visit after dinner to bring home a delicious treat. I've tried a few pieces tonight and there are many more treats for me to try next time. The parking lot is small, but hasn't been a problem. The employees are very pleasant and quick and the decor is a fresh, clean dessert shop. There are no tables, so you'll have to take your treats to go.
google avatar

Keesha F.

Yelp
Cute little local spot that serves Hot and delicious Conchas and baked goods! They also make some really tasty Lattes! My favorite is the Abuelitas Mocha latte and the churro and Mazapan Concha. Service is always friendly and welcoming each time I've come. I highly recommend you give them a try!
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
the conchitas are very good, fluffy and warm; especially mazapan one. the mazapan latte is pretty good too.

Yelp
Outstanding great food a real sugar rush a must try got to try there milk drinks it the one place to try in your bucket list
google avatar

Carll F.

Yelp
I went to the grand opening and it was worth it the bread was fresh and delicious, I was surprised with all the different types and flavored Spanish bread. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of all the ingredients and types of sweet bread they carried. I was waited on by one of the owners he was very polite and attentive to my questions on pricing and branding. I tried the churro flavered concha which was very good I then tried the vanilla which was also very good. I let them know churro was my favorite and I would be back for more. I give this place 8 out of 10 I recommend it I will be back
google avatar

Larry M.

Yelp
Very disappointed with the sweet bread. I ordered a tres leches cake and it was awful. I will not go into a lot of detail of the cake. All I can say is I will not recommend it. The sweet bread is delicious if it's warm right as it comes out. Unfortunately after that it's a complete throw away. The service & cleanliness is excellent. The staff is super friendly & they do offer first responders & military discount. Unfortunately I will not return.

Yolanda K.

Yelp
Very mediocre. I get the concept, but the actual concha itself is not the best just decent. The strawberry crunch concha lacked strawberry flavor. This is one of those places you try but probably never return, because it'll never compare to the authentic pan dulce taste. Customer service is very lacking. Upon ordering in English, as my Spanish is not good, the lady taking my order, her mood instantly switched as if me not knowing Spanish was frowned upon.. I planned on placing a large order to try out their shakes and cake slices, but after the rude service I just pointed to the one item I wanted and took my money elsewhere. You're not even greeted upon walking in.

Yelp
I love love the conchas I'm back again Delicious pastries Great customer service Nice clean place Nice cozy place Too bad no tables to enjoy it here
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
The oreo concha is pretty fire. The strawberry one tasted like fake plastic/chemical. Something about it was very off, couldn't get myself to even eat half of it. Kept tasting like plastic /chemical of some sort. Happened to go on 4th of July and I understand not everyone wants to work 4th of July. But the girl who helped me out looked like she HATED her life/job. No hi welcome. No I'll be with you in one min. This was the most sour experience ever for a bakery I saw so hyped up on Instagram. I was literally the only person inside too. It was AWKWARD just standing there waiting and there was a handful of ppl inside and nobody said one word. I did see the now hiring sign.... hope ya'll get some better cashiers !
google avatar

Rosemary A.

Yelp
Concha's are not your grandmas style concha. Some of them are too sweet for me. It I could see how everyone walks away happy with a big box.
google avatar

C B.

Yelp
The food tastes good but that is definitely over priced concha. We tried the oreo and the strawberry krunch. The oreo was good. The tres leches coffee was still very bitter. The mango peach smoothie was really on point!
google avatar

Dannielle W.

Yelp
The place is very colorful which makes for a positive mood. Safe was very friendly and helpful when helping me to decide on a drink.
google avatar

Yelp
Panecito did not disappoint after a beach day! We tried 2 concha's the strawberry and Oreo. Also, they are served warm which was amazing. The strawberry was our favorite! We will be back when in the area!

Wow today I was in Gardena and I stopped by to get some Mexican bread for my wife. I yelped this place and my Panecito showed up. amazing. They had so many different flavors. My favorite one was the Oreo and the apple was delicious. The service was great and everything was so pink I have to come back and get some more from my wife and kids.
