The Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Stationed in both Eagle Rock and Pasadena, My Vegan is one of Los Angeles’s many Thai plant-based restaurants. Staff are very friendly, serving Thai iced coffee, papaya salad, tom kah soup, and a dazzling stir-fry with pumpkin, eggplant, mushroom, onion, bell pepper, and basil. The small, nondescript dining room has some tables for folks who prefer to dine in; takeout is a great option, as well." - Mona Holmes

Google
Incredibly delicious. Was craving some deep fried junk food and also Asian, this was the perfect place. We ordered fries and buffalo chicken, then orange chicken and pad Thai. Everything was excellent. The soy chicken was the best I’ve tried at a restaurant. Truly amazing texture. All the food was very tasty. The service was very very kind. They let us stay after their closing time and never rushed us to leave.

Google
Walked in and was greeted immediately by a warm atmosphere and the person behind the counter. She gave a wonderful recommendation of Angry Pork when I couldn't make up my mind. The moment you sit down, you are brought ice water. The service is fast and the food is SO GOOD. Medium spice is certainly spicy in the best way. The angry pork was incredible. The vegetables had a great crunch, and the wild rice they came with was a perfect pairing. I will absolutely come back here again next time I'm in LA!!

Google
This is one of our family favorite restaurants. Only one member is vegetarian but we all enjoy the authentic Thai flavors. I’ve ordered quite a lot of take-out during the pandemic and have brought friends to both locations to dine. This Eagle Rock location doesn’t have much seating so we were lucky to get the one bigger table for our group of 5 that day, but honestly I don’t ever see this place full. I try to select something different every time, because it’s all delicious!!

Google
I'm not a vegan, but this place is always piqued my interest. I decided to go there with a vegan friend because I figured he could give me a fair assessment of the quality of food. I ordered the Angry Pork and he ordered the mushroom burger. As a meat eater, I was really impressed with the texture of the pork and more impressed with the accurate flavor profile for this Asian dish. The mushroom burger was also excellent and the fries were nice and crispy. The brown rice was also pretty good quality, because it's the purple rice so I think it's less processed. Definitely going here again even though I am not a vegan!

Google
Large menu with many Thai and American dishes. Portions are huge and very worth the price. Highly recommend the tom kah, Tom yum, and mushroom soup! Staff is friendly and service was quick.

Nicole

Google
Good food and good value! The mushrooms plate is absolutely delicious, it is a fresh and good quality variety of mushrooms well seasoned and accompanied by few other veggies. The big miso soup is good and gigantic, perfect to share. The beef plate was not so good though, lots of veggies and very few beef… the taste and texture of the beef was good, I just wished there was more. Service is okay, place looks nice and clean.

Google
I've been to many Ramen restaurants, but none compare to this one that uses fresh ingredients for their Ramen and noodles in house daily with fresh ingredients. The rich, savory broth and springy, homemade noodles are a match made in heaven. This spot's dedication to quality, authenticity, and customer service shines through in every bowl. I'm definitely coming back again.

Yelp
Two vegan friends took me, my 15 year old, 17 year old, adult son and my daughter-in-law to a late lunch at MY VEGAN after a wonderful day at JPL and none of the people 30 and below would have chosen a vegan place, they went along with the restaurant selection to be courteous. Oh. My. Goodness. The youngest had a vegan orange "chicken" and declared ti to be the best orange chicken of his life. The spicy edadmame, the deep fried mushroom were best of the best. Classic Thai noodle dishes got raves. But the one that did me in was a dal with pumpkin. Incredibly delicious and unique. Servings are generous but that just means I'm now having more dal for dinner, lucky me. The waitress, who may also have been doing double duty cooking (we were there in the late afternoon as the last of the lunch crowd_ was warm and you could tell she enjoyed watching our rapt converstion to team My Vegan. We will be back. 10 out of 10.

Yelp
As I walked in, I noticed that there weren't many customers. I had come to meet my best friend, who is vegan. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to enjoy our meal; we felt rushed to place our orders, settle the bill, and wrap things up--all within just 20 minutes. The cashier informed us they would be closing in 30 minutes and reopening later, which took us by surprise, but we understood. I must say, the iced tea is a must-try! I ordered the yellow curry with tofu and white rice, while my best friend opted for the broccoli with brown rice and some sort of vegan meat (see picture below). The food was quite tasty, but not long after I started eating, my stomach began to hurt very badly. On the way home, I had to pull over to throw up. I'm not exactly sure what caused this discomfort, but it was quite unsettling. Will I return? Probably not, as I live an hour away.

Yelp
Give this place some love!! We first tried the Pasadena location and wanted to give this one a shot too. The prices have gone up, but I'd still consider them reasonable. I love their Thai and Asian-inspired dishes, but they also have plant based burgers. Sadly, we were the only ones dining in on a Saturday night. The restaurant is nicely decorated and great for a date night. The waitress was very friendly and brought a complimentary Thai tea when there was a mistake made with another drink. The food is delicious without being too oily, salty, or sugary.

Yelp
Unassuming smaller restaurant in a strip mall, but Yelp didn't lie -- this place was amazing! Thoroughly satisfied a vegetarian family of four, each of whom wanted something different. We had curries, Chinese-inspired dishes, and even a carbonara. Food was great and portions were truly epic. The service was very fast, but there were not many other folks in the restaurant at the time. Ambiance is nice and simple, not too upscale. Loved it. We will be back!

Yelp
Very tasty both plates; small cozy spot; be good date night; give yourself some time to relax and enjoy the meal

Yelp
I shared a Tom Yum (with tofu) and Pad Thai Signature with my husband (who appreciates vegan cuisine much more than I do). I found the Tom Yum soup pretty good. It was sour, salty, and sweet as it should be, though I felt it was a bit sweeter than I like it (my husband, OTOH, thought it was just right). It was loaded with mushrooms, which is great. But I would have preferred more tofu, as well as more than a single tomato wedge. I didn't like the Pad Thai Signature, as I found it overwhelmingly sweet and loaded with noodles, with just one or two eggplant and tofu pieces, though it did have quite a bit of kale (along with a small salad, and bean sprouts. Our food came quite quickly, and service was friendly. A good experience.

Yelp
My favorite vegan restaurant. The orange chicken is legendary as is the noodle curry.
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
Starting the year off right means Vegan January and coming here for vegan Thai food. I've been here once before and it's a casual sit down spot with a variety of dishes to choose from. Service was good and the staff recommended me to try the soy chicken (yummy!) and the beef which was also unexpectedly delicious. I tried the wild mushroom soup a few times and it does not disappoint - a rich and creamy coconut delight.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Amazing food and wonderful service! Food arrived extremely quickly and very hot. So many delicious choices, but we stuck with Asian dishes. Very generous portions, and we thought the prices were reasonable for what we were getting. This is quite far afield for us, but we really want to return to sample some other dishes. Highly recommend, no matter if you are vegan or not!
google avatar

Reina D.

Yelp
Very good they have a great variety of food. Friendly service and made the food pretty quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
With love, the Pad Thai, soups, noodles are fine. I wish they would order from Bulan and see what's possible with vegan Thai.
google avatar

Ivy T.

Yelp
Fresh and delish! Service was fast and warm! They made steamed broccoli and kale so yummy!

Dina C.

Yelp
Omg this place is incredible! The food is sooo good! I definitely recommend! Great curry!!!

Yelp
It had been several years since we had lunch at My Vegan and since we were in the area decided to stop in again. This place does not disappoint! It was as delicious as my taste buds remember with the most generous portion sizes. I chose the yellow curry noodles with vegetables, my goodness, such flavor. The curry was spot on, veggies were tender crisp and the noodles were so tender. My hubby chose the pad thai noodles which he also also enjoyed. We shared a green papaya salad, which turned out to be an incredible treat. Lots of flavor, with a beautiful presentation. Their thai iced tea was tasty although for me, just a little bit too sweet. Parking can be tricky in the little strip mall, we parked down the street, which was an easy walk to the restaurant. Highly recommend.

Vanessa G.

Yelp
I love their food everything is so delicious my favorite dish is Angry pork served with brown rice but I ask for not so angry pork meaning not so spicy. The service is great and the employees are very friendly. I recommend the iced Thai coffee

JD M.

Yelp
Service was extremely subpar, I got up like 4-5 times for ask for things including additional Salsas and to go boxes. Food was mediocre, pad see eww tasted extremely oily, I remember my vegan being way better back in the days. To top it off the server had the audacity to ask If I wanted to add a tip to my tab after I put $0 dollars for a reason. Will never be coming back here again, sorry not sorry.
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
So many choices, hard to decide what to order. Everything we ate was delicious, especially the Impossible fries.
google avatar

Tammy W.

Yelp
We love coming to this thai restaurant for some great vegan food! Their combination fried rice is really tasty and uniquely cooked using brown rice. They also have these fake shrimp that looked and tasted like real shrimp in the dish. This is our 4th or 5th time visiting and we love it everytime!
google avatar

Gizelle F.

Yelp
I love My Vegan so much, I go here about once a week for lunch. I've enjoyed everything I've tried there, but I tend to lean towards their noodle soups. Love this Tom yum soup- spicy, hot and sour complete with vegetables (and yes I splurge for the vegan beef). I also love the wild mushroom coconut soup, as well as the yellow curry noodle. They are heavier dishes so I don't get them as often. Portions are huge, so don't worry if you feel like you're not going to eat your fill at a vegan place!
google avatar

Yelp
Their "Angry Pork" is a delectable vegan offering with balanced, mouthwatering flavor. On the other hand, the second time I went, I got an eggplant dish "P.E.T." Pumpkin Eggplant Tofu which was entirely forgetable with nary any flavor and tons of nearly raw eggplant that had not been infused with any cooking sauce. It was such a let down. The entire dish was bland and something I would never serve to myself or anyone else if I had made it. They are missing a certain standard of food prep, not sure their chef is ensuring a quality bar. My dining companion who was NOT a vegan was definitely not going to try vegan food again anytime. Sad.
google avatar

Aisha C.

Yelp
Solid thai spot. Traditional dishes made vegan with tofu or other options. Parking lot was small but free. Also some street spots off of Colorado. Service was great; very quick for a Wednesday late lunch and they were attentive and helpful in choosing dishes.
google avatar

Mae S.

Yelp
The Best thing for me is Angry pork..it the best with perfect spicy not too sweet..and another that I love is Orange chicken
google avatar

Luciano N.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place every time my family and I come the time of closing changes . The yelp says 3:30 . We walk in at 2:35 she said only take out because they close at 3pm . Online it says 3:30 that gives us 50 min to eat and leave which is ample time. So frustrating , we don't want to eat hot food in the car. Especially when we drive almost an hour to get here. Honestly very disappointed.

Yelp
My Vegan always has great service. The staff is so kind and generous. Their food is delicious and I am always finding something new to try on their menu.

Sharon V.

Yelp
I door dashed the angry pork. It was very flavorful but very salty. I loved the brown rice and veggies. Nice to have a vegan restaurant around.

Susie T.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff, fair prices. Very willing to accommodate preferences like "less oil", "mild, not too spicy " , etc
google avatar

Chelseaa V.

Yelp
First time here and it's really good! Fast service as well and the food is delicious. Definitely coming back here again for lunch :D I got the spicy wild mushroom with tofu! It's very good the perfect amount of spicy if you like spicy food! Very yummy garlic onion sauce too! Perfect comforting meal! The ingredients are very fresh too! I've had lots of vegan and vegetarian places and this one certainly exceeded my expectations!

Yelp
This is my second post..... today I tried the teriyaki tofu and the drumsticks and omg both were outstanding the drumsticks soooo good they even have a crunchy skin can't wait to order them again.

Donna R.

Yelp
I first tried My Vegan in Eagle Rock. They changed to take out only during covid and I stop going. Once I found them again in Pasadena I was fully smitten. I have tried several of their dishes and loved them all. My current favorite is the angry pork which is made of soy. I also could eat their 'only greens please' daily. The Pasadena location is not crowded but they usually have at least a few customers. I hope they continue to be popular enough to stay in business. I really love going to the Pasadena location.
google avatar

Makayla C.

Yelp
The flavor of the food isn't something I enjoyed but the service was good, it took a while to get my food but overall I wouldn't eat here again. If you enjoy the taste of watered down soy sauce this place is for you.

Yelp
Found this place off Yelp since we we were somewhat in the area. Their hours was a bit strange as it reopens at 4:30 later in the afternoon. Had to wait outside for the restaurant to open. Good thing they weren't closed because we weren't from the area. The owner was very friendly. Greeted us when we walked in. However we sat ourselves and she came to bring us the menus. The place was spacious but it was empty and dead. We were the only one there. Took awhile for me to decide as there were a couple of items I wanted to try but I had the guts to try the biryani--big mistake. I even asked it was cooked similar or the same way and she politely said no but I was curious anyway and got it. I didn't see any photos on Yelp but I was determined it may be good? Bad idea. Do not get the biryani if you imagine it to be cooked the traditional style with the protein inside steamed and cooked into the rice. Everything was separate. The coconut curry rice was good, however was disappointed in how it came out. Everything else was mediocre. The fried portobello mushrooms could use more seasoning and flavor. The dipping sauce could have been different as well, but it was sweet and sour sauce which they also included with the biryani dish which I thought was a bit odd. To our disappointment, we wanted to order another dish to make up for it. We only wanted to order as al a carte but they refused to accommodate us unfortunately. The service was ok and they were friendly, however the food was a let down.

Ileana V.

Yelp
The Pad Thai was one of the best I've had in the LA area. Great service and large portions.

Ce C.

Yelp
Love this place! Brought some friends here and now they are also regulars. The menu is pretty extensive & delicious but my favorite dish is the pumpkin, eggplant & tofu stir fry (PET on the menu- a bit of irony for a vegan restaurant.) Service is great to dine in or for takeout.
google avatar

Eth L.

Yelp
I would describe the food as Thai fusion, mostly Thai with some pan-Asian, pasta, and hamburgers dishes. A must-order are the crispy fried mushrooms which is not on the menu (secret menu?) ... slices of lightly battered portobello mushroom tops with sweet & sauce for dipping. I ordered the combo and added on the miso soup for $2 which was worth it since it also contains pieces of seaweed and diced tofu in it.
google avatar

Vaughn W.

Yelp
Stop searching, this is the restaurant you need to be eating at! This has been my favorite restaurant for years! Never have I been here and had a bad meal. I normally would order the pad Thai which is one of my favorites in the area! But then recently I had the yellow curry noodle and my life may have changed forever! Now one of my top favorite dishes of all time. Perfect amount of flavor and spice. If you need a lil spice in your life, then I highly recommend the angry pork. Never has something so angry made me so happy. But really you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And the staff is super nice and food comes out really quickly without sacrificing quality. I would give this place more stars if I could. 10/10 recommend. Angry Pork Yellow Curry Noodle
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Easy to locate. Plenty of parking in front. Upon entering I was greeted. Seated and provided with menu. Place was empty @ 12 pm on Friday. I originally came here for the pad thai because I had it before and loved it. Read the reviews and encourage to try Yellow Curry noodles. After ordering I received my food approx 10 minutes later. Fresh and hot. Food was DELICIOUS. Reviews were right. Must try Yellow Curry Noodles. Side note approx a yr ago I previously had ordered pad thai to go. I was going to work a 16 hr shift and need food. Got to work and ate before my shift. The food was DELICIOUS. I was surprised food was still hot and fresh. No soggy mess. Good customer service. DELICIOUS food. Highly recommend this establishment.

Dj T.

Yelp
I was expecting really amazing food after reading all these great reviews and maybe I came in on an off day. However this food was awful, the orange chicken was the soggiest blandest orange chicken I've ever had by far the worst dish. The eggplant in the red curry was overcooked. The pad se ew was the best thing and even then not worth it. I asked for white rice but got brown. Then to top it all off the customer service was atrocious. I asked for to go silverware because I wasn't going home and the amount of attitude I received made me regret asking. I would give this place zero stars if it was an option. This was garbage.

Mitzy S.

Yelp
Mushroom burger - burned portobello. Unfortunately this was probably one of the worst foods i had. Terrible
google avatar

Carolina C.

Yelp
Amazing! Tasty, clean, fresh ingredientes, love that they use brown rice instead of white! Delicious dishes, great service and loved the jazzy music. Finally found a great Thai place in the neighborhood! I forgot to take photo, that's how good it was.
google avatar

Trinity G.

Yelp
Almost drove by the place as there wasn't a sign but glad I did because it was delicious! I got the combo plate with mixed veggies and it was so flavorful. The menu is humongous and it was hard to choose. Food is fresh and comes out quick.
google avatar

Johanna B.

Yelp
Great place for vegans. Lots of different options w an okay price. Staff is very attentive and always ask how you're doing! Tom Kah was delicious I got it w tofu. I'm not a big fan of their soy chicken but to each their own. Dumplings were yummy and crispy pretty avg and mixed veggies had good sauce and came w rice! Good place to share food family style if your friends are willing haha (:
google avatar

Judy G.

Yelp
We decided to try out this vegan place in Eagle Rock. It was my first time here and we ordered the Tom Yum soup (not too flavorful), chicken carbonara, dal and a Thai Arnold Palmer. I'm not too familiar with vegan food but each dish had its own unique flavor and the portions were quite generous. I enjoyed the Thai Arnold Palmer because it reminded me of the Asian dried plum candy (li hing miu 旅行梅) I grew up eating!!
google avatar

Izza N.

Yelp
I came in here because I'm craving for Thai food and my niece recommended this place to me. We ordered Mango sticky rice-mango is sweet ,well ripped Pad Thai- it was a lot of tofu, a bit dry Tom kah soup-full of mushroom and tofu. The soup base taste perfect you can taste a little spice and creamy Vegan soy chicken Satay- my niece favorite. It's not chewy and it taste like chicken. Angry pork w/ rice- spicy, and salty but well flavor is well balanced. Vegan beef jerky-my son's favorite. Crispy, sweet and salty and addicting Everything was good and everything is plant base! Very tasty, full of flavors, quantity of the food is big, and the quality of the food tasted fresh. Thank you for the great food and great customer service!

Yelp
I've only been once and I don't like to say negative things about plant-based restaurants. I love supporting local, small businesses especially one who are doing good things for the environment but... I didn't have a great experience. The place is in a strip mall. It's nothing special to look at inside. No outside seating. My friend and I were the only ones there at first on a Friday afternoon. We weren't greeted very warmly. The person took our order and didn't ask if we had any questions. Didn't ask if we wanted a beverage. We got our food quickly. I ordered the kale quinoa salad and my friend ordered the pad thai with tofu. I'm not sure if my friend liked her meal (I forgot to ask) but she barely touched it. I are my whole salad because I was hungry but it was just ok. The kale want massages so it was hard and bitter. Barely any quinoa. The description said it had cauliflower and tomatoes but I had zero of those in my salad. The dressing was pretty good. But not a whole lot of flavor in the salad. Wait staff never came back to see how everything was, never asked if we wanted anything else. I don't think I'll be back.
google avatar

M T.

Yelp
Great tasting vegan cuisine. The restaurant is located in Eagle Rock at the corner of a strip mall at the intersection of Argus and Colorado. There is another location in Pasadena. Don't let the location of the Eagles Rock restaurant fool you. It is a tucked away treasure! We arrived on a Sunday morning for lunch and it was easy to find parking and a table. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with the menu choices. The prices are reasonable with a large menu. We ordered the orange chicken and curry noodles, both were fantastic with lots of flavor. Will definitely come again. They accept credit card but prefer cash. They also have delivery, while we were there, plenty of delivery drivers kept streaming through the door.
google avatar

Tellie N.

Yelp
This is my first time trying vegan Thai food and it's out of this world!! Tom Kah soup with tofu it's creamy and tasty. Satay soy chicken its soft and the peanut sauce is amazing. Signature pad Thai has tofu, kale and eggplant in it. Angry poke is not spicy and you wouldn't notice the pork is vegan. Everything in here is delicious, bomb dot com!!!!! I ordered only, it's easy peasy!!
google avatar

Candace M.

Yelp
Love this place! I have only gotten takeout and delivery here! I have not tried any of the "American" style dishes (impossible meat, cheeseburger, etc) just the Asian style dishes. It's in a small strip mall with a few other places like a UPS store and other businesses. Great portions. I have had a variety of menu items here - we really love the vegan egg rolls even though I am trying to avoid gluten right now, but I made an exception for these tasty ones! The soups come in big quart containers. I have had the tom yum soup and a variety of other dishes, and I enjoy them all! Please support this solid vegan option in Eagle rock!
google avatar

Xav H.

Yelp
Very great!! Satisfied!! Never had food with such flavor before and best of all the waiters aren't rude .

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday afternoon to try this place out based on a friends recommendation that their Thai Tea is similar to one my friends and I used to order all the time. Curious, we decided to sit down and eat. The ambiance of My Vegan is very cozy. Simple decor and also colorful. Only one suggestion I would say is to consider adding cushions to the benches. Other than that, the place feels homey. Our group were the only ones there so service was quick. Staff was very friendly. I am not vegan, but I do find some vegan food delicious. I love Thai food so I can look past it being all vegan. We ordered the Thai Iced tea to start off. It was not quite like the one I used to crave, but I will say it was delicious. Bonus points that it was dairy free and you could not tell too much. I enjoyed it being served in a mason jar. The staff was kind enough to provide us with spring rolls on the house as it was our first time dining. It was a nice gesture to start off our meal. Now for the food, we went in. We ordered the follow: - Fried Tofu - Yellow Curry with noodles - Soy Chicken Satay * - Orange Chicken (Soy) * - Spicy Eggplant w/ Tofu - Pad See Ew w/ Soy Chicken * - Angry Pork * - Mango Sticky Rice * The consensus of the group was that our favorite dishes were the ones with the asterisk. Everything was surprisingly delicious. All the flavors were there and it was very enjoyable. My personal favorite were the Orange Chicken, Pad See Ew and Angry Pork. The Orange Chicken was sweet and tangy and slightly crispy. The Pad See Ew with the soy chicken was very good. I probably prefer their Pad See Ew over others because it was not oily. The Angry Pork was a pleasant surprise. It had a nice kick to it and the texture was good. I poured some of the sauce over my rice which made it that more enjoyable with every bite. While I enjoyed the spicy eggplant tofu, I wished it was a bit more spicy. We ended our lunch with mango sticky rice because they looked very delicious on display before being cut. Overall, I would recommend My Vegan. I have lived in Eagle Rock most of my life and just now have decided to try it. I am a bit of a drive from Eagle Rock now, but I will definitely be coming back.
