Where to Drink Cocktails Right Now in Chicago

"A boozy sister spot to family-friendly Lebanese restaurant Medi in Lincoln Park, Mya by Medi aims to tap into a resurgence of downtown nightlife. A sleek and narrow cocktail bar — it’s the former Martini Lounge space — that features live belly dancers and fire performers on weekends, it’s a comfortable alternative to the din of clubby Chicago drinking spots with aesthetically striking cocktails like the mezcal-based Smoke Show, which is immersed in smoke under a glass bell jar. It also offers an ever-evolving food menu from Lebanese American executive chef Alexander Willis (Dusek’s, Mordecai)." - Ashok Selvam, Naomi Waxman

That was our first stop for a birthday celebration. Loved the look the ambiance the entertainment. There are not a lot of food choices. We ordered all of the appetizers, and some are good, but most of them are very salty. I loved that every 20 minutes, a belly dancer is coming up to entertain. Overall, it was a good experience.

We ordered just about everything on the happy hour menu (Wed-Fri 4-6pm). The $20 happy hour burger is incredible.. Two Patties, juicy, full of flavor & comes with the tastiest fries (light, thin and crispy). The HH $8 espresso martini is regular serving size and has a unique smoky/earthy flavor from the Arabic coffee. Potato borak was simple but really good. I heard there’s a belly dancer in the evenings on the weekend. Definitely coming back! If you go during happy hour, the cocktail lounge May not be as busy and can be on the quiet side for those who enjoy a more relaxed vibe.

Mya is one of the SEXIEST restaurants I have visited in Chicago. Recently opened this past October, this NEW, modern Mediterranean restaurant in Rivernorth is definitely an experience, with their FIRE DANCERS, speciality cocktails and BEAUTIFUL decor! Eats I tried: Baba Ghanoush Potato Borak Grilled Octous BBQed Half Chicken Biryani Ora King Salmon Ricotta Fritter Drinks I tried: Smoke Show - made with Mezcal! Apple of my Eye - includes Basil Hayden & Apple Syrup I can’t even pick a dish that was my favorite because everything was so full of flavor! I’m such a fan of Mediterranean food and the flavor composition of these dishes were just awesome. The presentation of the dishes as well were top-notch! The skin on the salmon was cooked so crispy, and the meat was so soft; it melted in your mouth! The potato borak was excellent -fried dough full of seasoned mashed potatoes! I LOVED THE DRINKS! They were very well made and creative and they have quite a few specialty cocktails to try! You also didn’t have to worry about missing out on entertainment, because the fire dancer came out about every 30 minutes or so; she also switched up and danced with scarves! Definitely a Mediterranean experience! Perfect for a date night or girls night out - make a reservation and experience Mya yourself!

Mya by Medi is my new favorite spot in town ! This place is a total vibe with the aesthetic decor, amazing service, and fabulous food and drinks. We had the Labne, Fattoush, Steak Frites, Branzino, and Ricotta Fritter. Loved everything we tried. The menu has quite a few vegetarian options. The drink menu is fantastic and sure to catch your eye. This is the perfect place for a GNO and date night. You can't miss the live performance at the restaurant. Dinner and a show 10/10.

I finished my dinner by the time I wrote this. The food was fantastic. The drinks are very good as well. There was a dancer that would come by the tables which added to the cool atmosphere. Overall good experience will definitely be back. Nyla was my server and she was amazing.

cool vibe with Eastern themed decor. I loved the smoky cocktail, and the steak with fries was delicious. It was a really good dining experience!

Rose made sure we were taken care of. The drinks are amazing here. Taylor was our bartender and she was so sweet to us and made our drinks to our liking. Thank you guys, will be back.

I went here for a friend's 40th birthday, hoping it would be a special evening. While the company and conversation were special, the experience at MYA by Medi was not. An explanation would have gone a long way to why service was so slow. We were left guessing as to why service was slow and haphazard. The food was good. We ordered bacon wrapped dates and grilled octopus for apps; both were really good. Although our apps came out after our mains. We ordered both pasta dishes on the menu. They were good, but also very small portions for the nearly $30 price tag for a small pasta. My friends all got a cocktail and really enjoyed them - so that was a positive. The entertainment was lackluster. The fire-dancer or belly-dancer, not sure what she prefers to be called, seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but at MYA by Medi. We were glad to be together to celebrate our friends birthday; but wished it was a better restaurant experience. However in friendship, we love to share all kinds of experiences, the good and the bad.

Yelp
I went to Mya by Medi couple of months ago, a new mediterranean spot with a twist. We had a reservation, and while waiting for our table, we could order drinks at the bar. The ambience was great! We tried a few drinks like Tough Love, Apple of My Eye, Love Potion, and For the Love. My favorite was For the Love. For food, we had Spicy Potato, Mediterranean Spinach, Potato Borak, Hummus, and Baba Ghanoush with pita. Potato Borak was my top pick. It gets a bit loud at night, but they have an amazing belly dancer performing. Overall, I'd recommend this place, especially for a new spot. Hopefully, they'll add more food options in the future

Yelp
Came in during restaurant week, and we were able to be seated immediately. The cost of the restaurant week menu was a little deceptive, as the price of their 3 course menu for restaurant week was actually $9 more expensive than if we ordered each of the courses off the standard menu. However, the dips and the veggie tacos we got were really tasty and the drinks list has some nice options. The ambiance is definitely swanky, and towards the end of our dinner a performer came out with a chandelier headpiece which was unexpected and cool!

Yelp
Mya by Medi was such a good experience. We started dinner with lovely cocktails. We then enjoyed hummus and spicy potatoes which were cooked perfect. We had three lamb tacos and chicken biryani for dinner- also very good. Can't recommend this place enough!!

Yelp
Entirely disappointing for cocktails. We went here on the promise of a sleek new cocktail lounge. We got a what was a middle eastern restaurant trying to be a night club? I don't know, it's hard to describe. Narrow strip of a room that has some loud music happening as you walk in on a weekend. The high tops were so uncomfortable and small that a couple leaving told us to talk our way into another table. Another couple switched while we were there. The servers seem new, inexperienced and/or too busy. The cocktail list is fairly boring with entirely too much egg white in everything. I like egg white being incorporated but not to mask your lack of creativity. Oh yeah and a belly dancer came out with fire which was fun. Again, what is this place?? lol Didn't try the food but I would rather not come back for the adventure.

Yelp
I haven't gotten to try Medi yet, but was excited to see the old Hush place be renovated into yet another Mediterranean restaurant in Chicago. To be honest, I'm not sure how well this restaurant will do compared to Lyra or Aba, but considering it's in a totally different area there is some potential! Service was great and decor was nice and club-esque with some classiness to it. There was supposed to be a live performance after our dinner (Friday around 7pm), but we didn't want to wait long for it. I got the tough love cocktail to start; however, this wasn't what I imagined - it was much more on the sweeter side with little spice. We started with the hummus, and this was delicious with the warm pita. DI loved the crispy chickpeas that garnished the dish. My friend and I also shared the fattoush, which was a nice refreshing salad, and the steak frites. The steak frites was super small, but it was deliciously cooked and the Lebanese potatoes were so tasty. The price was expected for an upscale city restaurant. I would recommend trying this spot out for a cute night out, to see the live performance maybe, or a for a swanky date night!

Yelp
We went here as a group of 9 on a Saturday night. The service was extremely slow. The drinks was made wrong multiple times and the food order was completely wrong as well. It's amazing that they either forgot the drinks we ordered or came over with different drinks that we didn't order. They were apologetic and gave me some freebies. The food itself was pretty good. The desert option was limited, by limited I mean they only had one option. The bathroom is a mess. The door is made out of cheap light wood and doesn't close or open well. The toilet seat is broken. The sink drain is broken.

Yelp
I knew this place would it disappoint because I've been to Medi a few times and loved it there each time I went there. I came here with my friends for my birthday and we had a great time. Service was awesome and the food was amazing! My favorite were the bacon wrapped dates and the lamb shank shawarma. This place is super cute and very instagrammable. Since it was my bday, I received free birthday shots. Thank you Elias!

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Hush, remember that? This is by Medi which is in Lincoln Park and that's been open for a couple years. I had one of their items. The staff and service is fantastic.

Yelp
MYA by Medi is a new Turkish spot that recently opened in the River north area. The place was very welcoming and has a lot of seating space. My friends and I had a reservation for dinner, and we arrived on time however we weren't seated to our tables on time; although we could order our drinks at the bar to get started. We ordered a lot of drinks - Apple of my eye, love potion, tough love, for the ladies. Most of the drinks were a bit on the sweet side, however still quite refreshing taste and they had a good twist on the names. For the ladies that was ordered by the guys of our group was surprisingly our favorite drink haha! They have limited Vegan food options. We ordered a plate of Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Potato Borak, Lebanese Spicy Potatoes and Mediterranean Spinach for the table. Out of everything we ordered, the Mediterranean Spinach was my favourite. It had Farro and sautéed spinach which was quite filling! My friends really liked Potato Borak the most because of it's crispiness and flavors. Overall, this is a good new spot. I deducted a few stars considering they do not have a wide range of Vegan options and the place gets a bit too loud, not really ideal for groups that want to catch up and enjoy a good conversation. The service was good and our servers were very accommodating with any changes and explained the menu well!

Yelp
The food was good. My faves had to be the eggplant ravioli and the steak frites. Cocktails were also very good. Ambiance for valentines night was alright. Service was good.

Yelp
Drinks - 8/10 Ambiance - 7.8/10 Food - 6.2/10 Service - 7/10 Steak was well done not "medium/medium rare" as the waitress said. The lamb was cold and awkwardly served. The babaganoush was 9/10, very flavorful. Not too impressed with this place and the prices they charge. Keep in mind this was on a night that wasn't busy.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this new cocktail lounge in River North. The ambiance is beautiful from the decor to the music, down to the lighting and entertainment. The cocktails are all so tasty with unique flavors. They can all be made into mocktails, too, if you are not a drinker! The food is the perfect size to share with amazing flavor. For cocktails - I highly recommend Love Potion.9, Watermelon Sugar, or the Smoke Show (for an experience!). The Octopus and Steak Frites are also delicious. Staff and service were all friendly and attentive. Perfect place for a date night, ambient dinner with a small group, or even to grab a few drinks before heading out for the night.

Yelp
This place is so cute! The potato Borak is heavenly - literally dream about it. The octopus and steak frites were amazing too! Our server recommended the love potion #9 drink and I really enjoyed the flavors and the wine float Can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

Yelp
A unique and fun spot! The ambiance is great. Very cool and great entertainment. We came on the night the fire breather was performing which was awesome! I would definitely come back for the entertainment. The food was okay (I would maybe just come for a drink and the ambiance in the future). The food portions were on the smaller side and not the best for sharing. We were really excited to try the lamb tacos that had rave reviews but the meat was more dry and chewy. The other food items we tried were okay. Overall a good spot for an after dinner drink and entertainment!

Leo S.

Yelp
My fiancé and I chose Mya by Medi for Valentine's Day, drawn in by its "by Medi" menu. While the ambiance was warm and inviting, the service fell short as our server seemed inexperienced and unfamiliar with the menu. The steak frites was ok, but the Tacos Arabes, although loaded with authentic flavors, it was an obvious poor attempt to sell over-priced tacos. I've definitely had better middle eastern.

Yelp
Place is gorgeous and good is amazing! a perfect date spot , definitely recommend trying their specialty cocktails and the steak!

John R.

Yelp
Food was incredible, especially the labne, cavatelli and potato borak and the service was excellent. The environment was creative but didn't fit the rest of the experience.

Paul A.

Yelp
Ambiance 10/10 Cocktails 10/10 Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Great addition to the neighborhood

Yelp
The potatoes were so good and I enjoyed the live entertainment! A great date spot. Fast service

Yelp
This past weekend I dined at MYA by Medi with a few of my girlfriends and the entire evening was spectacular. From the aesthetic of the space to the food, the service, and the drinks! We started with drinks, in which I ordered a dirty martini. We also tried The Apple of My Eye and The Gentleman. All the drinks were perfect. One of the owners even sent a round of Reposado Tequila to the table! For food, we ordered the following: Seasonal Mouneh Fattoush Salad Spicy Lebanese Potatoes Grilled Octopus Steak Frites **WOW THIS WAS INCREDIBLE. I ordered mine medium rare Lamb Shank Stew The music and entertainment were top-notch as well. Can't wait to visit again! We were taken care of by Nyla and she was the highlight of the evening. Can't recommend this place enough for a date night or night out with the girls.

McKenzie C.

Yelp
One of my favorite new spots in the city! I am constantly craving the potato borak! 10/10

Lynn K.

Yelp
Food was good, not great, but the portions were so ridiculously small especially for the price. The kitchen was so slow and it took so long to get our food. Nice ambiance but definitely not worth going back when there are so many other great restaurants in Chicago.

Eli L.

Yelp
I had such high hopes of this place. The restaurant itself was such a fun vibe. service was awful and unprofessional. Will not be returning.

Eddie A.

Yelp
Taste is decent, but the portions are insulting. The food is not really middle eastern or a fusion.

Taylor D.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and drinks and it was amazing! The decor is absolutely stunning as well. Our server was so nice and so was the bartender. The love potion was so good. And my favorite dishes were the potato borak and bacon wrapped dates!!

Nikolaus C.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service!! The atmosphere and ambiance was SO good! It's a must try!!!

Audrey B.

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambiance! 10/10 overall! Will definitely be returning for another dinner in the future.

Romeo N.

Yelp
Had an amazing time visiting this new restaurant last night! The cocktails were on point: "The Tough Love" and "The Unforgettable Love" were fantastic and top tequila and mezcal were used to prepare them. The grilled octopus appetizer and the Steak Frites entree were expertly prepared and so delicious! Our server Rose was fantastic as well. This place is highly recommended!!!

Doreen N.

Yelp
This is a newer restaurant so I understand there may be some hiccups. Tried this place with a few of my friends and the main take away was how cute the decor was, which is not a good sign. The food is overpriced, the best things are the appetizers. The mains were lacking flavor, the steak included a few pieces while the roasted chicken needed salt and so much more to save it. This was a place our group said they wouldn't visit again. The service was good, but the food/menu needs to be adjusted to include more impactful flavors/spices that showcase true Mediterranean cuisine.

Benjamin O.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday there with 20 people in the private dining room. They gave my party a great drink/meal package with custom menus! The food was great, portions were great!
