I am not sure exactly what has transpired at Mykonos. It was a long standing Greek staple in Miami. The staff was formerly all Greek, the interior truly reminded me of Mykonos, and the prices were pretty good. I believe they have new ownership. Our original server didn't seem to speak English, so a New Yorker took over our table. We sat outside because the weather was so nice. I wish I'd checked out the inside a little more. The murals remain, but I think they have tried to amp up a bit of a night clubby vibe with lighting and artificial flowers and music. I wasn't a big fan of the music. We were handed a single sided menus and to be honest, we almost left. The menu was very limited and much more pricey than the old Mykonos. The old menu was so authentic that each item was described underneath in Greek. Anyway, it turns out most of the old favorites are still available if you go to the online menu. For an appetizer, we'd usually go with calamari or the octopus. One of the group mentioned he loved spinach pie, so we tried something different. The crust was nice and flakey, and the spinach and cheese were tasty, and the size was amply shareable for the four of us. We all went with the gyro platters or the combo with a chicken souvlaki skewer. And some upgraded their fries to Greek fries with feta. The salad was good, though a little feta would've made it better. And the tzatziki was great. Service was slow, though there was some confusion as one of our party arrived late. Pita was forgotten from one plate, but arrived promptly when pointed out. Drinks and water arrived a bit slow. Miami already has plenty of upscale Mediterranean-styled restaurants and in my opinion most achieve the upscale vibe much better. Great authentic Greek family styled restaurants were a rarity, and all in all, sometimes change isn't always for the best.
