In the summer of 2014 we were looking to upgrade to a larger competition BBQ smoker that would also support our growing catering business, so when judging in Washington DC we dropped by the Myron Mixon site to see their new cookers. We weren't sure what we wanted but were adamant that it wasn't a cabinet smoker. But after an hour talk with Rob Marelli and Toni Maynard we were thinking "if only half of what they just said is true, we need to get one". And honestly this is a case of the product fully living up to the image.
We took delivery of our V33 in late December and our first test cook was on a 20 degree morning. Even after heating the smoker up to 275 we were able to take a picture of frost still on the outside. Yes, after cooking for 7 hours the smoker does gets slightly warm but the insulation is superb. This means a stability during the cook that can ignore rain or winds. Also, the entire interior of the cook chamber is stainless steel, no worries about rust.
Nearly a whole 20# bag of charcoal will fit in the feed hopper and there is a generous area below the fire grate for as much smoking wood as you could ever want.
The first season after getting the V33 our competition standings rose noticeably. We were able to concentrate on process and details of the product, knowing that the smoker would deliver. It continued to deliver and boosted our confidence when we competed in the Fire & Ice Women's Invitational Competition at the World Food Championships last year in Orange Beach, AL. And as a result we brought home a 6th place World Champion Female Pitmaster title.
Another factor that has been very important to us is the level of service we have been shown. Since this was one of the early models that were produced there were a few small initial issues that needed to be fixed. Within a few hours of being notified, Rob had arranged for shipment back to the factory for the service. Shipping on a 600 pound smoker is no small matter. The entire crew at Myron Mixon Smokers have been great to work with.
Bottom line: if we had it to do over again, hands down we would. We love our V33!
