The Hottest Barbecue Restaurants Around D.C.

"Competitive barbecue champ Myron Mixon is smoking all manner of meats at his restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Chicken enrobed in spicy-sweet seasoning is best, followed by beefy smoked sausage smothered in piquant red onions. Loaded baked potato lives up to its name, delivering plenty of potato, cheese, and herbs in every bite." - Eater Staff

This place is great!! Really enjoyed the food. Ribs were excellent, fall-off-the-bone. Collard greens were delicious and had the tight amount of bacon and spiciness. The mac n cheese was also really good and different than what I am used to when I go to bbq places. The pasta was al dente and not soggy like most other bbq places, so it felt heartier. I think I also detected pimento in it which was awesome!

Tried the fried catfish and shrimp and grits; both were delicious! The bourbon sweet tea is also an amazing drink. The service and atmosphere were fantastic. Will definitely come back to try out the BBQ. Highly recommend!

Gosh, I really wanted to like this place! After a boat ride in old town, our family decided to get some reprieve from the sunshine and get barbecue! I was super excited because we’ve had a hard time finding a good barbecue place in this town. Anyways, I ordered the Cobb salad. My husband and mother-in-law ordered the pulled barbecue plate and both my children ordered mac & cheese. Unfortunately, when my salad arrived, my eggs were not cooked through. I asked the waitress to please get different eggs for my salad. She sent another gentleman out who told me that if I wanted hard boiled eggs, I needed to request that they are cooked hard through if not, they are soft boiled. They offered me no refund. They offered me no other options other than it was my fault that I did not need my hard boiled eggs cooked hard. Yuck!!

Update: Went back again. The service was much better this time, but the overall experience is just going downhill, in my opinion. Coming here from Texas, I really miss smoked BBQ, and I'm rooting for this place, but just waking in, there is no smell of smoke or BBQ. When we step up to the greeter, we're just given a look like "We'll, are you going to speak so I know how to help you?". They took the pork rinds off the menu, which were a big hit for me, but if you ask, they might make them for you. The menu has been reduced, and now they serve drinks in small paper cups. All-in-all, not good signs. Food not to bad. Service terrible. 3rd time there. Each time expecting it to get better.

Eating here was truly a treat! We ordered "The Family Meal" which was more than enough food for 5 people with a little left over for a to-go box. The meats were incredible, perfectly smoked and seasoned. The sides were excellent options to go with our meal. Our service was great for a Sunday evening. The place wasn't too crowded and not too loud, we definitely enjoyed the experience. Cannot wait to go back!

Hubby & I were on one of many dates & he suggested MM. Mannnnn some of the best BBQ my palate had had the pleasure of meeting!!! The deviled eggs were top notch & the Peach Baked Beans were unforgettable!! The Brisket was tender and juicy as were the fall off the bone ribs. I will definitely be taking the trip from DC again to savor these flavors!

it took a while before we could sit but it was ok. Once we sit we ordered the ribs brisket and pulled pork. The flavour was really good. Nice smoke ring and the side’s were great. Only thing was that the brisket was medium cold. The rest was great

I was excited to try Myron's place in Alexandria. Things were OK but not as great as I expected. The ribs had a bit of tug to them which is fine since I don't think "fall off the bone" is best texture. The baby back ribs were a little dry though. I suspect that they sat around for a bit before we ordered them. The sides were very good, the atmosphere was clean and relaxed and the staff was very friendly.
