Where to Eat, Stay, and Forage in Halifax, Nova Scotia | Vogue

"Perched on a pier that juts out into the Halifax Harbour, the striking steel wedge of this restaurant is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, giving the diner the illusion of floating on water. Designed by Nova Scotia-based architectural firm Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple with interiors by DesignAgency, the space creates a dramatic stage for chef Malcolm Campbell and his team working in an open kitchen, with muted blues and grey, moss green, and stone and driftwood accents echoing the coastal landscape and dishes plated on organic ceramics by Heather Waugh Pitts. Two eight-course tasting menus, Fauna and Biota, offer a taste of the terroir in refined, creative ways—like buttery scallops beside strawberries and cloaked in goldenrod cream—rooted in a respect for place that uses everything Nova Scotia has to offer, from local seafood to wild foraged herbs and mushrooms. For a quick visit, The Unwritten Bar program leads a guided tasting of two bespoke cocktails made with house-fermented and foraged ingredients, each paired with a chef-curated bite." - Chloe Berge

Eat, Sip, and Stay in These Epic Culinary Hotels in Canada

"Chef Malcolm Campbell’s open kitchen explores Nova Scotia’s terroir through three distinct tasting menus—Flora (plant-forward), Fauna (meat and game) and Biota (land, sea and air). Standout moments include Acadian wild caviar with wakame emulsion, smoked ricotta ravioli studded with chanterelles and caribou moss, and a playful chocolate “urchin” for dessert; a wall of fermenting jars hints at a deep interest in preservation and alchemy." - Claire Sibonney

We had such a great experience here. Andrew was able to accommodate us a table, with little notice, which we so appreciated. The physical space is airy and spacious, with excellent views of the water. We were a group of 6 reuniting after many years and though we had a large table, we could all have an inclusive conversation, which I found surprising. The fixed menu was flexible, the staff (scully) provided top notch service. Courses arrived in a relaxed manner. Portion sizes were perfect. The dishes were beautifully plated, with inspired flavour combinations! Big thank you to all the staff for making our evening so memorable!

If there’s one thing you do in Halifax it better be this tasting menu! Not only was the food incomparable, but the service was above and beyond. My family and I will be talking about this restaurant for years. We shared many laughs and smiles across the five impeccable courses. Many thanks to our waiters, Lance and Sam, who made this experience extraordinary for my family and I.

The food and atmosphere at Mystic are exceptional. Every dish was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. We genuinely hope Michelin will one day recognize this gem in Halifax, it truly deserves at least one star.

Mystic Restaurant in Halifax offers a cozy atmosphere with a creative menu that blends local flavors with global inspiration. The seafood is fresh, portions are generous, and the service is warm and attentive. A great spot for a casual night out or a special dinner.

The decor is very nice. We had the discovery menu and it was fantastic, everything was so fresh and the flavours were amazing. We sat along the bar next to the cooking station. Luckily the restaurants didn’t have any strong smells thanks to its strong fans. Usually when the prices are expensive I have higher standards for the food but the food was excellent. I thought I would leave hungry but I was surprisingly satiated. The final dessert course was very sweet but very cute. I’m excited to come here again. My main server could have had more attention to detail but I felt like she was new to serving so I’lil give it a pass. Loved the experience.

Fantastic fine dining experience! I enjoyed the Unwritten Bar experience, with two pairings of cocktails and delicious "bar bites". The bar staff are great, Danielle and Ashton are lots of fun. I enjoyed myself so much that I upgraded with a few extra plates and drink pairings, and honestly wish I had just started myself off with the Discovery Menu from the start. If I'm ever back in Halifax again, I'll have to try the Discovery Menu! I'm hoping this place gets a Michelin star, they are truly high end and the food is very unique and delicious.

Such a beautiful experience. Food is amazing, presentation is unreal, the service is unmatched and the building itself is a showstopper. Every detail is well thought out and it shows. Lance took care of our service and he was a 10/10, super friendly, personable, knowledgeable and professional. Will be returning again.

We did the unwritten bar program with Danielle and it was absolutely fantastic. She explains everything and even gives you tips if you’re an amateur mixologist. The bites that come with the drinks are amazingly good. It’s not cheap (about 100$/pp), but it is so worth it. Kudos to Danielle, she knows how to entertain you!
